|Assets:||An elite pass rusher, with outstanding quickness and technique when attacking the quarterback. Also an all-purpose outside linebacker who picks up the run well and will make big plays in coverage. Outstanding athletically.|

LaMarr Woodley to play D-End for Raiders | 03/13/2014 7:45 PM
NewsLaMarr Woodley confirmed he will play defensive end in Oakland.
Jerry McDonald on Twitter
ImpactHe'll likely play right end with Justin Tuck at his natural left end spot. With Sio Moore in the Von Miller role at strong-side linebacker and left end on pass-rushing downs -- with Tuck kicking to three technique in those scenarios -- the Raiders do have the potential to bring some pressure. They also fielded a respectable front seven in 2013, however, and finished 4-12.
Raiders ink pass rusher Woodley to 2-yr deal | 03/13/2014 6:27 PM
NewsRaiders agreed to terms with DE/OLB LaMarr Woodley, formerly of the Steelers, on a two-year contract.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactThe deal is worth a max of $12 million. Oakland was the only visit Woodley, 30, made; he was scheduled to visit Tennessee next. With 2013 starting DEs Lamarr Houston and Justin Hunter free agents and Houston already signing with Chicago, the Raiders replace them with Woodley and Justin Tuck on Thursday. Woodley has exclusively been a 3-4 outside linebacker. The Raiders run a 4-3. In today's NFL, pass rushers are pass rushers.

NewsFree agent OLB LaMarr Woodley is scheduled to visit the Titans Friday.
Terry McCormick on Twitter
ImpactThis has been the expected landing spot for Woodley all along. New Titans defensive coordinator Ray Horton was in Pittsburgh during Woodley's first four NFL seasons and he's now installing a 3-4 in Tennessee. The only question is if the Oakland -- where Woodley visited Wednesday -- will blow him away with an offer he can't refuse. Reggie McKenzie has cap space to burn.

Titans expected to pursue OLB LaMarr Woodley | 03/10/2014 10:57 PM
NewsCBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports many in the Steelers organization expect free agent OLB LaMarr Woodley to sign with the Titans.
Jason La Canfora on Twitter
ImpactThe Titans are transitioning to a 3-4 defense under new DC Ray Horton. Horton was on the Steelers' defensive coaching staff for Woodley's first four seasons in the NFL. At 30 years old and injury-prone, Woodley can't be counted on as an every-down starter but would be fine in a situational pass-rushing role.
Steelers cut Woodley, clear $10.6M in space | 03/10/2014 1:37 PM
NewsSteelers will release OLB LaMarr Woodley.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactHe'll be designated as a post-June 1 release, allowing the Steelers to spread out his $19.76 million in dead money over the next two seasons. The move clears $10.57 million in cap space. Woodley's release was a fait accompli after the Steelers re-signed OLB Jason Worilds. Woodley still has some juice left as a pass rusher, but has become increasingly injury prone, and will turn 30 in November. He'll draw interest as a situational pass rusher for 3-4 teams.
Woodley's spot tied to Worilds outcome | 03/04/2014 9:06 AM
NewsSteelers OLB LaMarr Woodley is expected to be released if the team can retain free agent OLB Jason Worilds.
ImpactWorilds was slapped with the transition tag Monday, but that hardly means he'll remain a Steeler in 2014. Pittsburgh just has the right of first refusal with Worilds. Woodley is set to count $13.6 million against the salary cap and would be far too expensive to keep around as a part-time player behind Worilds and second-year OLB Jarvis Jones. He's missed 14 games since 2011.
LaMarr Woodley done with Steelers? | 02/16/2014 2:01 PM
NewsAfter examining OLB LaMarr Woodley's contract, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette strongly indicates Woodley is unlikely to be a Steeler in 2014.
Impact"The more you look closely at the LaMarr Woodley situation, the more you conclude that either by March 11 or after June 1, he no longer will be a Steeler," writes longtime beat reporter Ed Bouchette. The Steelers seem very interested in re-signing Jason Worilds, and will surely be counting on 2013 first-round pick Jarvis Jones to become a second-year starter. GM Kevin Colbert will likely ask Woodley to take a pay cut. If he doesn't, he'll be shown the door.
LaMarr Woodley headed for a paycut? | 12/18/2013 8:33 AM
NewsESPN says LaMarr Woodley (IR, calf) will have to take a significant pay cut this offseason or the Steelers will have to "seriously consider" releasing him.
ImpactWoodley signed a six-year, $61.5 million contract in 2011 that made him the highest paid defensive player in franchise history. Since then, he's missed 14 games due to injury and produced just 18 sacks in the 34 games he's appeared in. There are whispers in Pittsburgh about his conditioning and weight. The Steelers could bring back rapidly improving Jason Worilds and line him up across from Jarvis Jones at outside linebacker in 2014.
Pittsburgh sends veteran OLB Woodley to I.R. | 12/17/2013 3:06 PM
NewsSteelers placed OLB LaMarr Woodley on injured reserve with a calf injury, ending his season.
ImpactWoodley re-injured his troublesome calf in Sunday's win over the Bengals, and wasn't going to heal up in time for Week 16 or 17. First-round rookie Jarvis Jones will finish out the year opposite Jason Worilds at outside 'backer. Going on 30, Woodley has missed (minor) time with injury each of the past three seasons. He finishes 2013 with five sacks and 36 tackles, grading out as the No. 11 3-4 outside linebacker in Pro Football Focus' ratings. Signed through 2016, Woodley is due $8 million in 2014.

Adam Caplan on Twitter
ImpactWoodley has missed the last two games and will likely be held out again Thursday with the Steelers playing on a short week. It's a matchup upgrade for Joe Flacco and the Ravens passing game. Woodley has five sacks and a forced fumble in nine appearances this season.

NewsSteelers OLB LaMarr Woodley (calf) is inactive for Week 12 against the Browns.
ImpactWoodley will miss his second straight game despite returning to a limited week of practice. DE Brett Keisel (foot, questionable) has also been ruled out. The rest of the Steelers inactives are QB Landry Jones, S Shamarko Thomas, WR Derek Moye, TE Richard Gordon, and LB Steven Sylvester.

LaMarr Woodley among Steelers' inactives | 11/17/2013 11:43 AM
NewsSteelers declared OLB LaMarr Woodley, RE Brett Keisel, LG Ramon Foster, WR Derek Moye, QB Landry Jones and TE Richard Gordon inactive for Week 11 against the Lions.
ImpactIt's a host of notable names for the increasingly aging and injury-prone Steelers. Woodley is sidelined with a calf injury. Rookie Jarvis Jones will start in his absence. Keisel has a foot issue, and Foster is week to week with a high-ankle sprain.

NewsThe Pittsburgh Tribune-Review observed at Steelers minicamp that OLB LaMarr Woodley "looks great" and "definitely shed some pounds."
Ken Laird on Twitter
ImpactAfter a disappointing 2012 season that generated grumblings about Woodley's weight, he promised to "get after it" in the Steelers' offseason conditioning program. Sounds like it's worked. Pittsburgh badly needs Woodley to step up as its franchise pass rusher with James Harrison moving on and two youngsters (Jason Worilds, Jarvis Jones) competing on the opposite side.
LaMarr Woodley 'getting after it' | 05/05/2013 9:46 AM
NewsAfter allegedly falling out of shape during the 2012 season, OLB LaMarr Woodley said he's "getting after it" in the Steelers' offseason conditioning program.
Impact"I've been training since the middle of February," he said. Woodley has missed nine games over the past two seasons and registered just four sacks across 13 appearances last year. The Steelers need more out of him. They can field a special pass-rush duo along with rookie Jarvis Jones if Woodley gets in shape.
LaMarr Woodley restructures deal | 03/12/2013 2:57 PM
NewsSteelers OLB LaMarr Woodley has agreed to a restructured contract.
ImpactWoodley converted roughly $5.5 million of his $9 million salary into a signing bonus, clearing roughly $4 million in cap space. Woodley notched 27 tackles and four sacks in 13 games last season.
Steelers restructuring Woodley's contract | 02/27/2013 4:51 PM
NewsESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Steelers "will" restructure OLB LaMarr Woodley's contract.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactIt was an expected move. Woodley's $9 million base salary is one of the highest on the Steelers. A large chunk of it - perhaps all the way down to the minimum - should be converted to a signing bonus. The Steelers are running wild restructuring deals, creating even more severe cap issues down the line.
Steelers havet yet to approach LaMarr Woodley | 02/26/2013 4:24 PM
NewsThe Steelers have yet to approach OLB LaMarr Woodley about restructuring his contract.
ImpactBeat writer Ed Bouchette considers Woodley a "likely candidate" to restructure. The Steelers are already reworking Ben Roethlisberger, Lawrence Timmons and James Harrison's deals. The Steelers want Woodley to get into better shape for 2013, but he doesn't appear to be a candidate for release.
Teammate blasts Steelers LB LaMarr Woodley | 02/17/2013 10:09 PM
NewsOne teammate blamed Steelers OLB LaMarr Woodley's 2012 injuries and poor performance on Woodley being out of shape.
Ed Bouchette on Twitter
Impact"He was awful," the teammate said. "He tells us he works out, but we didn't see it. He wasn't in shape. That has to be a reason why he was always hurt." Woodley was also injured often in 2011. Beat writer Ron Cook opined that Woodley looked "heavy and slow" last season, resulting in a career-worst year. Woodley is plenty capable of turning things around, but it's fair to wonder if he packed it in a bit after getting paid in 2011. That August, the Steelers signed Woodley to a six-year, $61.5 million contract with $22.5 million guaranteed.
Steelers want more from LaMarr Woodley | 02/17/2013 4:06 PM
NewsThe Steelers believe OLB LaMarr Woodley needs to approach offseason workouts "with more diligence" after an injury-riddled 2012 campaign.
ImpactWoodley battled ankle and hamstring injuries en route to a career-low four sacks while missing three games. He also missed six games in 2011. As the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes, "all of his injuries have been in his legs and usually involve muscles." Woodley is one of the league's better power rushers when healthy, but he won't maximize his potential until he becomes more durable.
