|Assets:||A one-cut-and-gone return man with elite track speed. Anticipates exceptionally well, finds holes in return coverage in a split second and is a constant threat to go all the way on both punts and kickoffs.|
|Flaws:||Hasn't developed as a wideout: can't work the middle or take a hit and isn't a disciplined route runner. Gets jammed at the line and isn't a physical presence as a blocker.|

ImpactIt's a very intriguing fit. Bruce Arians is a master at getting his wideouts open and they have a hole at the No. 3 spot after losing Andre Roberts. The speedy Ginn would also provide a boost to a return unit that ranked 31st in kickoff return average last year while also stretching the defense in a situational deep threat role.
Giants now looking at speedy Ted Ginn | 03/13/2014 10:51 AM
NewsThe Giants are reportedly pursuing free agent WR/KR Ted Ginn.
ImpactAfter missing out on Jacoby Jones, the Giants are turning their attention to a similar player as they try to upgrade their return game. Ginn won't be cheap, however, He showed well when given opportunities as a wideout last year, giving him extra value to a team like the Panthers or Bucs.

NewsFree agent Ted Ginn is visiting the Bucs.

ImpactAs is ex-Pats special teamer Dane Fletcher. With the Bucs loading up on veteran talent, Ginn would be a deep threat as a No. 3/4 receiver. The Bucs have also been linked to Steve Smith.
Panthers hope to re-sign free agent Ted Ginn | 02/27/2014 7:01 PM
NewsThe Charlotte Observer reports the Panthers hope to re-sign free agent Ted Ginn.
ImpactThe former first-round bust is coming off a career year, and was Cam Newton's most reliable deep threat last season. Ginn's "career year" still consisted of just 36 catches for 556 yards and five touchdowns, but wanting to re-sign him shouldn't elicit the snickers it would have in the past. Two months shy of his 29th birthday, Ginn still has speed to burn.
Cam: Niners tried to shut down Ted Ginn | 01/13/2014 9:01 AM
NewsFollowing Sunday's loss, Cam Newton said the 49ers were paying more "attention" to Ted Ginn than any other Panthers receiver.
ImpactGinn's agent should take this quote with him to upcoming free agency negotiations. The former bust of a first-round pick by the Dolphins quietly turned into a legit playmaker as a receiver this season, catching 36 passes for 556 yards with a career-high five touchdowns. With Steve Smith slowing down and Brandon LaFell heading for free agency as well, the Panthers should make an effort to bring back Ginn.
Ted Ginn goes for 104 yards in playoff loss | 01/12/2014 4:26 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught four passes for 104 yards in Carolina's Week 19 playoff loss to San Francisco.
ImpactGinn's first reception went for 14 yards down the right sideline in the first quarter. He also chipped in a 22-yard punt return early in the second, and a 17-yard catch in the fourth. The bulk of Ginn's yardage came on a meaningless 59-yard reception late in the fourth quarter with the game already wrapped up. One of rookie GM Dave Gettleman's prize 2013 signings, Ginn is now eligible for unrestricted free agency after arguably his best all-around NFL season. He should get a multi-year deal with some guaranteed money.
Ted Ginn scores on a pick play | 12/29/2013 4:38 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught two passes for 16 yards in Sunday's Week 17 win at Atlanta.
ImpactGinn started in place of Steve Smith (knee) and scored on a goal-line pick play, but saw just five targets and wasn't close to any chunk gains. He'll remain a true weapon on returns and in the screen game in the playoffs. Ginn, whose raw speed and improved skill set was underutilized by the Panthers all year, finishes the regular season with 36 catches for 566 yards and five touchdowns on a meager 68 targets.

Ted Ginn has two-catch, 66-yard day | 12/22/2013 6:08 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught two passes for 66 yards in Carolina's Week 16 win over the Saints.
ImpactThe yards were Ginn's most in nine games, and second most of the season. The return man enters Week 17 with 550 receiving yards, already his highest total since 2008.
Ginn limited to one catch vs. Jets | 12/15/2013 9:25 PM
NewsTed Ginn had one catch for 10 yards in Week 15 against the Jets.
ImpactHe added one carry for 14 yards on the Panthers' first drive of the third quarter. Ginn was a non-factor in the passing game and finished with just one target. He won't be a fantasy option in Week 16 against the Saints.
Ted Ginn a non-factor in loss | 12/09/2013 1:42 AM
NewsTed Ginn caught two passes for five yards in Week 14 against the Saints.
ImpactHe was targeted five times in the passing game. Ginn is the Panthers' best deep threat, but hasn't had more than 47 receiving yards since Week 8. He won't be on the fantasy radar even in a plus matchup next week with the Jets.
Ted Ginn goes 2/47/1 versus Buccaneers | 12/01/2013 6:02 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught two passes for 47 yards and a touchdown in Carolina's Week 13 win over the Bucs.
ImpactGinn displayed some fancy footwork near the sideline on his 36-yard touchdown in the third quarter. Ginn is good for a weekly deep bomb or two, but it's not a recipe for fantasy reliability. The return specialist posing as a No. 3 receiver is on pace for a 37/625/5 line.
Ted Ginn has rough day at the office | 11/24/2013 7:18 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught three passes for 11 yards in Sunday's Week 12 win at Miami.
ImpactGinn was atrocious on offense. He saw 10 targets, failing to make anyone miss in the screen game and dropping a bomb from Cam Newton that would have gone for a touchdown. It reminded the Miami fans why they let the No. 9 overall pick in the 2007 draft go. Ginn isn't good enough to be worth a roster spot in fantasy leagues even though the Panthers are trying to manufacture the speedster touches.
Ginn catches game-winning 25-yard TD on MNF | 11/19/2013 1:06 AM
NewsTed Ginn caught a 25-yard touchdown in Week 11 against the Patriots.
ImpactIt was the biggest catch of the night, though. Ginn caught a short pass near the 15-yard line on the final drive. He made Kyle Arrington miss before breezing past another two defenders on his way to the left pylon for the game-winning score with 59 seconds left on the clock to put the Panthers up 24-20. Ginn has just four catches in his last three games and isn't worth a fantasy roster spot.
Ted Ginn battles cramps in win at SF | 11/10/2013 8:15 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught two passes for 19 yards in Sunday's Week 10 win at San Francisco.
Ginn catches one pass for 10 yards vs. ATL | 11/03/2013 5:26 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught one pass for 10 yards in Carolina's Week 9 win over the Falcons.
ImpactGinn was targeted only three times, making it the third time in four games he drew three of fewer looks. Ginn has been ripping off big plays, but doesn't have the touchdowns or increased snaps to show for it. He remains off the 12-team league radar. With half the season now in the books, Ginn is on pace for 40 catches, 714 yards and four scores, but it's hard to see him reaching that yardage total.
Rivera: Ginn has been 'very special for us' | 10/30/2013 8:40 AM
NewsCoach Ron Rivera said Ted Ginn "has been very special for us."
ImpactWe're finally starting to see Ginn do some of the things he was expected to do when the Dolphins took him ninth overall way back in 2007. Through seven games, he has 20 catches for 357 yards (17.9 YPC) with two touchdowns, with six of those grabs going for 20+ yards. He has another dream matchup in Week 9 as the Panthers will host the Falcons, putting him on the desperation flier radar. But in general, Ginn's boom-or-bust style while sharing the secondary receiver receiver role with Brandon LaFell will lead to fantasy headaches.
Ted Ginn leads Panthers in Week 8 receiving | 10/25/2013 12:48 AM
NewsTed Ginn caught five passes for 80 yards in Week 8 against the Bucs.
ImpactWith Steve Smith being shadowed by Darrelle Revis, Ginn was surprisingly a big part of the Panthers offense. He led the team in receiving yards and finished behind only Steve Smith with six targets. Ginn would of had an even bigger game, but dropped a wide open pass deep down the right sideline in the second quarter. He now has 20 receptions for 357 yards through seven games.
Ted Ginn has 2/34 afternoon in win over STL | 10/20/2013 6:45 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught two passes for 34 yards in Carolina's Week 7 win over the Rams.
ImpactFighting for extra yardage on his second catch, Ginn came up inches short of a 23-yard touchdown. Little more than a weekly hail mary, Ginn is barely on the radar in 14-team leagues.
Ted Ginn manages 22 receiving yards Sunday | 10/13/2013 4:20 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught two passes for 22 yards and lost three yards on a rushing attempt in Week 6 at Minnesota.
ImpactGinn made a critical seal block on Brandon LaFell's 79-yard touchdown, but was otherwise quiet. Ginn isn't a fantasy option in standard leagues, though he deserves credit for playing well as Carolina's No. 3 wideout.
Ted Ginn goes for 78 yards in Week 5 loss | 10/06/2013 7:30 PM
NewsTed Ginn secured 4-of-5 targets for 78 yards in Carolina's Week 5 loss to Arizona.
ImpactGinn can't be trusted in fantasy leagues, but he's been a surprisingly big part of Carolina's passing attack through four games. He's on pace for 884 receiving yards. That number is more likely to go down than up or stay static. Ginn won't be on the fantasy-lineup radar in Week 6 against Minnesota.
Ted Ginn has big game against Giants | 09/22/2013 4:23 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught three passes for 71 yards and a touchdown and rushed once for 11 yards in the Panthers' Week 3 win over the Giants.
ImpactHe added a 12-yard punt return. Ginn has played surprisingly well at receiver early this season, but is a No. 3 wideout on a run-first team and will inevitably encounter major fantasy bumps in the road. He's not worth a roster spot in 12-team leagues.
Ted Ginn posts 62 yards, touchdown in loss | 09/15/2013 6:29 PM
NewsTed Ginn caught three passes for 62 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 2 loss to the Bills.
ImpactGinn was used as an outside receiver in three-wide sets, with Brandon LaFell moving to the slot. He beat Justin Rogers deep for a 40-yard touchdown, but it was an otherwise fluky performance. Ginn is a situational deep threat in a run-first offense and has little upside as the Panthers' No. 3 receiver.
Ted Ginn running as Panthers No. 3 WR | 07/29/2013 3:16 PM
NewsTed Ginn is running as the No. 3 receiver early in Panthers camp.
ImpactHe's got an early leg up on Domenik Hixon, whom reports indicate has struggled in the chemistry area with Cam Newton. Although Ginn lacks reliable hands and is never going to be an asset over the middle, he is something of a scheme fit in Carolina's vertical offense because of his deep speed. Just don't anticipate fantasy impact. Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell are entrenched as starters.
Ted Ginn intent on seeing time as wideout | 06/28/2013 9:34 AM
NewsTed Ginn is intent on seeing time as a receiver this season.
Ted Ginn in the mix for a deep threat role | 06/12/2013 9:04 AM
NewsCoach Ron Rivera hinted that Ted Ginn will be used in a situational deep threat role this season.
ImpactDomenik Hixon (hamstring) is sitting out this week's minicamp, so Ginn is getting a shot at some No. 3 wideout reps in addition to his return duties. "Obviously, with his speed, we know he can blow the top off the covers and he's showing. He's going," Rivera said. "I think he's going to help us with some of the complimentary reps that we'll have." Ginn has averaged 23.3 yards per reception on his 161 career catches. At the very least, he can clear out a safety.
Ginn the favorite for Panthers' return job | 04/07/2013 11:28 AM
NewsPanthers.com considers Ted Ginn the "leader in the clubhouse" to handle return duties this season.
ImpactGinn will face competition from Kealoha Pilares, Armond Smith, Armanti Edwards, Joe Adams, and Domenik Hixon, but the 28-year-old veteran should win out. Ginn has averaged 23.2 yards per kickoff return and 11.0 yards on punt returns in his career with six combined touchdowns.
Panthers sign WR/KR Ted Ginn to one-year deal | 03/21/2013 5:10 PM
NewsPanthers signed WR/KR Ted Ginn, formerly of the 49ers, to a one-year contract.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactGinn drew interest from the Bengals and Panthers in free agency, but he chose to sign with Carolina. His main contributions will be in the return game, taking over for busts Joe Adams and Armanti Edwards. The Panthers' receiving depth chart also doesn't bring much to the table after Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell, so Ginn could challenge for reps behind them. Ginn averaged 10.2 yards on 32 punt returns in 2012.
| 03/20/2013 1:17 PM
NewsPanthers coach Ron Rivera is excited about the prospect of signing free agent KR/WR Ted Ginn.
Impact"I know our guys really spoke highly of his visit," Rivera said. "The interesting thing about Ted is he gives us some depth at wide receiver who can challenge for playing time opportunity. But also he's got special teams value, which is big." If Rivera's comments are any indication, Ginn should become a Panther some time in the next 48 hours.

Lions could be interested in Ted Ginn | 03/10/2013 1:05 PM
NewsThe Detroit Free Press thinks the Lions could be interested in free agent Ted Ginn if second-tier free agents get too pricey.
Detroit Free Press
ImpactIt appears that the second-tier guys will indeed be looking for monster paydays after Brian Hartline set their market on Thursday. Stefan Logan was a complete failure in the return game for Detroit last year, so finding his replacement there and a deep threat like Ginn to replace Titus Young in the receiver corps wouldn't be a bad idea.
Report: 49ers not keen on keeping Ginn | 02/22/2013 12:14 PM
NewsA league source tells CSN Bay Area the 49ers have not "placed a high priority" on re-signing return specialist Ted Ginn
CSN Bay Area
ImpactGinn is still a fine return man, but continued to have trouble staying healthy in 2012, and offered nothing as a pass catcher for a team that was hurting for receiver depth. The 49ers would be better off devoting Ginn's roster spot to a return man who can actually catch a few passes in a pinch, or vice versa. Beat writer Matt Maiocco reports LaMichael James and Kyle Williams could compete for return duties in Ginn's absence.
Ted Ginn moving on from 49ers? | 02/05/2013 11:26 AM
NewsTed Ginn's father suggested that his free agent son will not be back with the Niners next season.
Tim Warsinskey on Twitter
ImpactDespite season-ending injuries to both Kyle Williams and Mario Manningham, Ginn was limited to strict return duties. He finished with two catches on the year. "They don't use him. He has to find a home," the elder Ginn said. Expect the return specialist to sign on with a team willing to at least let him compete for snaps at wideout.
Ted Ginn held catch-less in Super Bowl | 02/04/2013 1:19 AM
NewsTed Ginn was held without a catch in the 49ers' Super Bowl XLVII loss to Baltimore.
ImpactGinn was silent as usual in the receiving game, but he broke off a field-changing punt return of 32 yards midway through the third quarter, setting up a Frank Gore touchdown that cut Baltimore's lead to 28-20. Ginn also had a 31-yard kick return. An impending free agent, the ship seems to have sailed on Ginn emerging as an impact wide receiver. 28 in April, Ginn will likely be viewed by most clubs as a return specialist only on the open market.
