|Assets:||An exceptional athlete with very good speed and uncommonly large hands. Uses those mitts to zip mid-range passes accurately to his receivers. Exceptional when plays break down, as he has superb mobility as a scrambler in the open field and can make cagey plays on the run. A confident, gutsy leader.|
|Flaws:||Undersized (although it's not a major issue due to his mobility and high release-point). Still learning how to avoid sacks. Could make even more use of his exceptional scrambling / rushing ability.|

Seahawks remain committed to run-based O | 06/05/2014 1:47 PM
NewsCoach Pete Carroll confirmed the Seahawks will remain committed to running the football heavily going forward.
ImpactThe Seahawks have ranked 32nd and 31st in the NFL in pass attempts through Russell Wilson's first two seasons, limiting his yearly fantasy ceiling. "We want to run the football whenever we want to," said Carroll. "We are an absolutely committed running football team." Wilson could flirt with top-five quarterback numbers if Seattle's defense or running game took a step back, but we wouldn't anticipate either. He's a low-end QB1 in 2014 re-draft leagues.
Wilson, Luck to command $24-$25M per year? | 06/05/2014 9:42 AM
NewsESPN's Adam Schefter hears Russell Wilson and Andrew Luck will earn $24-$25 million annually when they sign new contracts next year.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactColin Kaepernick's new deal is worth up to $21 million a year, but the details revealed a very team-friendly structure. The Niners will be able to cut him at any point if they're not happy with his performance. The agents for Wilson and Luck will have more leverage, and should therefore be able to negotiate more guarantees into the contracts. The $24-$25 million per year will actually be paid out and set a new record. Aaron Rodgers' $22 million average annual salary currently leads the league, followed by Matt Ryan ($20.7M), Joe Flacco ($20.1M), Drew Brees ($20M) and Peyton Manning ($19.2M).

NewsThe 2014 NFL season will open on Thursday, September 4 with the Packers at the Seahawks.
Wilson won't 'actively participate' in ST | 02/04/2014 6:55 PM
NewsFOX Sports confirms Russell Wilson won't "actively participate" in Texas Rangers spring training.
Jon Morosi on Twitter
ImpactAny discerning fan already knew this, but apparently some didn't. The Rangers acquired Wilson's rights in last year's Rule 5 draft with the sole intention of using him as a mascot/motivational speaker. At one point, Wilson was pursuing a potential baseball career, but hung up his cleats after hitting .229/.354/.356 across 379 plate appearances in the low minor leagues.
Wilson still plans to attend Rangers camp | 02/03/2014 8:56 PM
NewsRussell Wilson's agent confirmed the Super Bowl champ still plans to attend Texas Rangers camp this spring.
Jon Morosi on Twitter
ImpactSeattle fans have nothing to worry about. Spring training runs from mid-February until March, so Wilson will not miss anything important, and the Rangers drafted him in December's Rule V draft simply to mentor some of their younger players. The young quarterback's baseball days are most likely behind him.
Russell Wilson checks out in 4th quarter | 02/02/2014 9:52 PM
NewsRussell Wilson checked out of Sunday's Super Bowl 48 stomping of the Broncos late in the fourth quarter after completing 18-of-25 throws for 206 yards and two touchdowns, with three rushes for 26 yards.
ImpactTarvaris Jackson performed mop-up duty. The Seahawks don't ask Wilson to carry their offense on a week-to-week basis, and he didn't need to in the Super Bowl as Seattle's defense and special teams thoroughly dominated. Wilson was still highly efficient in third-down situations and avoided turnovers on a day where Seattle led 22-0 at the half, and didn't so much as allow a Denver score until the final play of the third quarter. Wilson has finished as a top-nine fantasy quarterback in each of his first two NFL seasons. He'll be worth a middle-round pick in 2014 re-drafts.
'Hawks outlast 49ers to advance to SB XLVIII | 01/19/2014 10:01 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 16-of-25 passes for 215 yards, one touchdown and zero interceptions as the Seahawks outlasted San Francisco 23-17 in the NFC Championship Game to advance to Super Bowl XLVIII.
ImpactIt was a game for the ages, albeit one without much to call home about on offense. Wilson struggled mightily in the face of San Francisco's rush, taking four sacks and committing an intentional-grounding penalty. He lost a fumble on the very first play of the game. Routinely flushed up the middle, Wilson backpedalled instead of stepping up in the pocket, resulting in a host of dangerous plays. He hit just enough big throws to send Seattle to New York, however, including a Houdini-scramble that resulted in a 51-yard completion to Doug Baldwin. Wilson has struggled of late, generating just five touchdowns versus four turnovers over his past six games. He'll have to be better for Seattle to hoist the Lombardi Trophy.
Seahawks outlast Saints to advance to NFCCG | 01/11/2014 7:47 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 9-of-18 passes for 103 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions in Seattle's 23-15, Divisional Round win over the Saints.
ImpactBottled up as a runner, Wilson managed just three scrambles for 16 yards. Put simply, Wilson wasn't good. He missed a number of makable short passes, and overthrew Golden Tate on a fourth-quarter deep ball. A 16-yard completion to Percy Harvin could have easily been an interception. Wilson is now averaging just 157.4 passing yards over his past five games, and has managed only four scores in the process. He'll have to be better if the Seahawks are to win next Sunday's NFC Championship Game.
Seahawks rest Wilson with 10 minutes left | 12/15/2013 3:49 PM
NewsThe Seahawks rested Russell Wilson with ten minutes left in their Week 15 game against the Giants with the score 23-0.
ImpactThe Seahawks have done this on several occasions in blowout wins this year. Wilson finished with 206 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception, and eight scrambles for 50 yards. Wilson narrowly missed another touchdown when Golden Tate's second-quarter score was negated by Tate accidentally stepping out of bounds on his route. The Giants' defense actually defended Wilson stoutly despite the lopsided score, harassing him particularly in the first half and drilling him on several occasions. He was picked off in the third quarter by FS/slot CB Antrel Rolle. Wilson still came away with above-average production. The Seahawks host the division rival Cardinals in Week 16, where Wilson will remain a top-ten QB1 play in fantasy football.
MLB's Rangers select Russell Wilson in draft | 12/12/2013 10:34 AM
NewsMLB's Texas Rangers took Russell Wilson in the minor league phase of Thursday's Rule 5 draft.
Russell Wilson has quiet day in road loss | 12/08/2013 7:48 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 15-of-25 passes for 199 yards, one touchdown and one interception in Seattle's 19-17, Week 14 loss to the 49ers.
ImpactWilson rushed just once for two yards. He also committed a fumble, but the ball rolled out of bounds. Wilson had good success extending plays with his feet, but struggled to find open receivers in a fiercely-contested defensive battle. His lone score was a 39-yard strike to TE Luke Willson, where Willson did most of the work after the catch. Unfortunately for fantasy owners, his pick came on a desperation heave with 0:26 remaining. The game snaps a string of six straight two-touchdown efforts for the second-year quarterback. Wilson should return to QB1 status in Week 15 against the Giants.
Russell Wilson shreds Saints for 3 TDs on MNF | 12/02/2013 11:57 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 22-of-30 passes for 310 yards and three touchdowns in Seattle's 34-7, Week 13 dismantling of the Saints on Monday night.
ImpactWilson could do no wrong. He picked apart the Saints' No. 3 pass defense and No. 5 overall defense with perfect throws and timely runs -- he added 47 yards rushing on eight carries in the dominating win. The 11-1 Seahawks also clinched a playoff spot and are near locks to be the NFC's No. 1 seed. There were many big throws from Wilson, but one of the best tosses came on a third-and-three in the first half. The Saints sent the house, but Wilson tossed a perfect ball over the top to Doug Baldwin in the face of pressure for a 52-yard gain. Baldwin later caught one of Wilson's touchdowns. The other two went to Zach Miller and Derrick Coleman. With 75 percent of the season in the books, Wilson is on pace to complete 64.9 percent of his passes for 3,562 yards, 29 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He's been a QB1 for the past month-plus. Wilson and the Seahawks travel to San Francisco in Week 14.
Russell Wilson dominates early, coasts late | 11/10/2013 4:17 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 19-of-26 passes for 287 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's Week 10 win at Atlanta.
Russell Wilson engineers 27-24 comeback win | 11/03/2013 7:21 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 19-of-26 passes for 217 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions and rushed for 36 yards and a third score as the Seahawks came back to defeat the Bucs 27-24 in Week 9.
ImpactWilson threw a couple of seemingly back-breaking picks -- including one from the three-yard line where OC Darrell Bevell should regret not handing off to Marshawn Lynch -- but hit Jermaine Kearse (16 yards) and Doug Baldwin (10 yards) for touchdown passes following a 21-0 early-game deficit. That's right, the Bucs had a 21-0 first-quarter lead, and Seattle still rallied back for the victory, improving to 8-1 on the season. The Seahawks will face Atlanta's lifeless defense in Week 10, before a Week 11 bye. Look for Percy Harvin (hip, PUP) to upgrade Wilson's receiver corps in one of the next two games.
Russell Wilson takes plenty of hits in win | 10/29/2013 12:38 AM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 10-of-18 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns in Seattle's Week 8 win over the Rams.
ImpactWilson added 16 yards rushing on three attempts. He was under intense heat all night. Wilson was sacked seven times -- three times each by RE Robert Quinn and LE Chris Long -- and hit at least a dozen times. OC Darrell Devell subjected him to a couple of hits on failed bootleg runs from the one-yard line. The good news is Wilson should get both of his starting offensive tackles back soon; Pat McQuistan has been filling in at left tackle and rookie Michael Bowie's been manning the right side. Aside from an 80-yard touchdown bomb to Golden Tate, the Seahawks were held to 55 total yards on their 39 other plays. Wilson and the Seahawks have a plus matchup against the win-less Bucs in Week 9.
Russell Wilson burns Cardinals for three TDs | 10/17/2013 11:54 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 18-of-29 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns in Seattle's 34-22 Week 7 win over the Cardinals.
ImpactWilson also committed three fumbles, losing two. He added eight rushes for 29 yards. Aside from the fumbles - all three of which came inside the Seahawks' 25-yard line - Wilson put on a clinic. His first touchdown pass was one of the best throws by any quarterback this season, as he escaped a collapsing pocket to launch a 31-yard missile on the move to Sidney Rice. His second score was a lofted beauty to the back of the end zone for Zach Miller, while he displayed great patience on the third, waiting for reserve TE Kellen Davis to get open. The fumbles clearly aren't acceptable, but Wilson's protection veered between "shoddy" and "terrible." Producing more and more like a QB1 each week, Wilson's slow start appears to be behind him.
Russell Wilson totals 318 yards in win | 10/13/2013 7:05 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 23-of-31 passes for 257 yards in Seattle's 20-13 Week 6 win over the Titans.
ImpactWilson threw no touchdowns or picks, and added 61 yards on 10 rushes. Wilson was at his best when he channeled his inner Fran Tarkenton, zigging and zagging all over the field on a 23-yard scramble in the third quarter before throwing from literally one sideline to the other as he found a wide-open Marshawn Lynch for a 55-yard gain on the first play of the fourth. No scores dulled the day from a fantasy perspective, but Wilson was very effective, particularly after halftime. He's now surpassed 300 total yards and 30 pass attempts in back-to-back games. His QB1 arrow is pointing up.
Russell Wilson has big rushing day in loss | 10/06/2013 4:58 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 15-of-31 passes for 210 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception, and rushed 12 times for 102 yards in the Seahawks' Week 5 loss to the Colts.
ImpactHis pick to Darius Butler ended the game with under two minutes left. For the vast majority of Sunday's tilt, Wilson was outstanding. He hit Golden Tate and Jermaine Kearse for touchdowns, and made the Colts' surprisingly stingy defense look slow all game with his legs. Wilson remains a fantasy QB2 due to his lack of passing volume. The 4-1 Seahawks face the Titans next.
Wilson runs for 77 yards in Seahawks OT win | 09/29/2013 4:44 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 12-of-23 passes for 123 yards and one interception in Seattle's 23-20, Week 4 overtime win over the Texans.
ImpactThe Seahawks called just a handful of pass plays in the first half, and Wilson was getting crushed on every drop-back he made behind an offensive line that was missing three starters. Wilson added 77 yards rushing, with most of them coming in the second half, which opened things up for the offense. The Seahawks were gashing the Texans on the ground after Brian Cushing exited with a concussion in the third quarter. After four weeks, Wilson is on pace to complete 236-of-384 passes (61.4 percent) for 3,148 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He's on pace for another 524 yards rushing on the ground. Those numbers fall right in line with Wilson's rookie-year stats. He's a back-end QB1. Seattle travels to Indianapolis next week. They're a different team on the road.
Russell Wilson throws for 4 TDs in 3 quarters | 09/22/2013 6:48 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 14-of-21 passes for 202 yards with four touchdowns and one interception in Sunday's Week 3 win over the Jaguars.
ImpactWith the Seahawks up 31-7 and under four minutes left in the third quarter, the Seahawks called off the dogs. Wilson and Marshawn Lynch came out, bringing Tarvaris Jackson and Christine Michael on. Wilson still had plenty of time to do damage while he was on the field. He threw two scores to a wide open Zach Miller and two more to Sidney Rice. The only error was a bad throw across his body that got tipped and picked off. Wilson will find the sledding much tougher next week at a Houston team that will be steaming after getting punished by the Ravens in Week 3. He'll be a back-end QB1.
Russell Wilson manages Seattle to Week 2 win | 09/16/2013 12:51 AM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 8-of-17 passes for 142 yards and one touchdown in Sunday night's 29-3, Week 2 win over the 49ers.
ImpactHe added 36 yards on 10 carries. Wilson threw an interception on Seattle's second drive of the night and had just eight completions, but was able to manage the game during the second half. His lone touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a seven-yard pass to a wide open Marshawn Lynch. Wilson struggled to get anything going on his limited passing attempts, but is a strong candidate to bounce back with a matchup with the Jaguars next week.
60 percent chance of rain in SEA v SF | 09/15/2013 12:04 PM
NewsThere's a 60 percent chance of rain in Seattle for Sunday night's Seahawks vs. 49ers game.
Michele Tafoya on Twitter
ImpactNBC's Michele Tafoya -- who is covering the game -- tweeted that the weather in Seattle is expected to be "fierce." However, the weather report calls for just 9 MPH winds. We don't get worried about offensive effectiveness unless winds reach 20 MPH. Both teams are certainly accustomed to playing with a wet ball as operate in the consistently soaked Northwest.
Russell Wilson throws for 320 yds, TD in win | 09/08/2013 3:54 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 25-of-33 passes for 320 yards and one touchdown in Seattler's 12-7, Week 1 win over the Panthers.
ImpactWilson was being chased around by the Panthers' front seven all day long. His first career 300-yard passing game came as a bit of a shock. Carolina surrendered minimal running room to Marshawn Lynch, so it was up to Wilson's arm to win the game. The second-year quarterback showed nice chemistry with slot receiver Doug Baldwin, hooking up seven times on eight targets and multiple times on third down. Wilson's touchdown went to Jermaine Kearse down the right sideline on a 43-yard bomb early in the fourth quarter. Wilson and the Seahawks host the 49ers on Sunday Night Football next week.
Russell Wilson throws 2 INTs Friday night | 08/23/2013 10:22 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 11-of-17 passes for 126 yards and two interceptions in Seattle's third preseason game Friday night.
ImpactHe tacked on a 13-yard run. Through three preseason affairs, Wilson is 21-of-35 passing (60 percent) for 276 yards (7.9 YPA), two touchdowns, and two picks. He's rushed for 32 yards on four scrambles. Wilson remains entrenched as a top-ten fantasy quarterback and value pick based on late-August ADP.
Dual-threat quarterbacks to 'pay the price'? | 08/23/2013 4:08 PM
NewsAccording to the Los Angeles Times, there's a "belief among many people in NFL circles" that dual-threat quarterbacks will "pay the price" this season in read-option offenses.
Los Angeles Times
ImpactThe belief is that with a full offseason to prepare for offenses that "last year seemed exotic," NFL defenses are "not going to be as tentative and under-prepared." Co-chairman of the NFL safety committee John Madden believes defenses will respond by "going after the quarterback ... that's going to be their answer." "They're just going to go after him whether he pitches or not," added Madden. "They're not going to be caught on their heels this year."
Russell Wilson sharp so far in preseason | 08/18/2013 2:01 PM
NewsThrough two preseason games, Russell Wilson has completed 10-of-18 throws (55.6 percent) for 150 yards (8.3 YPA) and two touchdowns.
ImpactHe hasn't turned the ball over and has scrambled three times for 19 yards. Wilson continued to demonstrate dynamic playmaking ability in Saturday night's exhibition game against the Broncos following a brief appearance in the preseason opener at San Diego. Wilson is a locked-in top-ten fantasy QB for 2013.
Russell Wilson's per-game attempts capped? | 06/26/2013 10:11 AM
NewsESPN's John Clayton believes Russell Wilson's pass attempts will be capped at 26-28 per game this season.
ImpactIt's an extremely low number in today's NFL. Last season, 21 quarterbacks averaged at least 30 attempts per game while Wilson was at 24.5. Still, he finished as fantasy's No. 10 quarterback thanks to 489 rushing yards, four rushing scores and a 26:10 TD-to-INT ratio. Wilson is a poor bet to throw for 4,000 yards in Seattle's run-heavy scheme, but he's firmly inside the QB1 tier.
QBs coach: Seahawks managed QB Wilson | 06/21/2013 2:42 PM
NewsOne opposing QBs coach suggested that Russell Wilson's rookie-year success was at least partially attributable to the Seahawks' other components.
ImpactOnly 5-foot-10 1/2, Wilson has always encountered doubters and continues to have them despite his ROY-caliber first year. "I like the kid, but he also was playing with a top-five defense and a top-five running game," said the coach. "It helps a lot when you don't have to throw the football 35 times a game." Despite his low pass attempts total, Wilson still ranked ninth among fantasy quarterbacks in 2012 and was the No. 1 QB scorer over the final five weeks.
Carroll: Wilson a million miles ahead of 2012 | 05/21/2013 12:08 PM
NewsSeahawks coach Pete Carroll said Russell Wilson is a "million miles ahead" of where he was last year.
Tacoma News Tribune
Impact"We were talking about trying to throw the deep ball last year over guys' outside shoulder; we're just a million miles ahead of where we were," Carroll said. "He's the kind of player that will affect other guys - he affects everyone around him - and hopefully that will help everyone play better and faster." In terms of the deep ball, Pro Football Focus credited Wilson with 949 yards, nine touchdowns, and five interceptions on 64 passes traveling 20 yards or more in the air as a rookie.
Carroll: Seahawks to remain run-first team | 04/27/2013 12:39 AM
NewsCoach Pete Carroll reiterated after the draft that the Seahawks will remain a run-first team in 2013.
ImpactRussell Wilson's fantasy upside will have to come via his efficiency and rushing stats because he won't compete for the NFL lead in pass attempts. "We really expect to have a very balanced attack again," Carroll said. "That's part of the philosophy is to have a balanced attack, the numbers will come out pretty equal with run and pass. ... So we don't expect to change that ratio much."
Carroll: Wilson is going to 'bust out' in '13 | 04/04/2013 8:36 PM
NewsCoach Pete Carroll says Russell Wilson is going to "bust out" in 2013.
Impact"I think he's going to really do well this year," Carroll said. "He's going to bust out and will benefit tremendously from his first year. It may be hard to imagine he's going to get any better, but I think he's going to get a lot better, being he was a first year starter, first time in the league." Carroll has always seen things through rose-colored glasses, but it's hard to argue with him here. The Seahawks didn't open up the playbook until the second half of the season in 2012.
Russell Wilson's 'mindset is to be great' | 03/05/2013 5:02 PM
NewsAppearing on NFL Live Tuesday, Seahawks FB Michael Robinson cited Russell Wilson's "attitude" for the 2012 third-round pick's rookie success.
ImpactWilson is brimming with arm talent and athleticism, but elite intangibles are still his calling card. "He had a saying," Robinson recalled of Wilson, "'The separation is in the preparation.' And the kid prepares so hard during the week. He's the first guy in the building. He lifts with the offensive linemen even on days he isn't supposed to lift. ... He's the last one out of the building. When I say last one, coaches included. His mindset is to be great."
Russell Wilson: Coaches opened the playbook | 02/04/2013 1:59 PM
NewsRussell Wilson pointed to OC Darrell Bevell's expansion of the Seahawks' offense when explaining his late-season statistical surge.
Sports Radio Interviews
ImpactWilson was the No. 2 fantasy quarterback behind only Drew Brees over the final five regular season weeks. "My coaching staff just let it loose for me and just let me play the game and just continue to grow in terms of the playbook and everything," explained Wilson. Wilson isn't worried about NFL defenses "figuring out" the read option in 2013 because it's a relatively minor part of Seattle's playbook. "It's just a changeup for us," said Wilson. "We may run 15, maybe 20 percent, of our runs are the read-option plays."
Russell Wilson's deal won't be changed | 01/22/2013 1:34 PM
NewsPer the new CBA's rules, Russell Wilson is not eligible for a contract renegotiation.

Russell Wilson staying in same offense | 01/18/2013 4:59 PM
NewsThe Seahawks' retention of offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell with a contract extension means Russell Wilson will enter his second NFL season in the same system.
ImpactIt's promising news after Wilson really came on down the stretch of his rookie year, compiling a 19:3 TD-to-INT ratio over his final ten games, not including five more touchdowns as a runner. Wilson is going to be an intriguing pick in 2013 fantasy football drafts. Despite a slow start in a conservative early-season offense, Wilson ranked ninth among fantasy quarterbacks in 2012.
Russell Wilson totals 445 yard, 3 TDs in loss | 01/13/2013 7:02 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 24-of-36 passes for 385 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception and added seven rushes for 60 yards and a third score only to see the Seahawks fall 30-28 to the Falcons in the Divisional round of the playoffs.
ImpactWilson entered the game as the first rookie since the merger to lead three victories in the final two minutes or overtime, and nearly had a fourth after a brilliant touchdown drive to take the lead with 31 seconds remaining. After falling behind 20-0 at the half, Wilson started the next frame 10-of-10 for 185 yards and two touchdowns, nearly joining Frank Reich in history while making a series of big throws in the clutch. The performance resulted in the second-highest Total QBR rating (86.4) ever recorded in a loss. Coach Pete Carroll called Wilson an "amazing football player" after the game while expressing unbridled optimism about the state of his franchise with Wilson leading the charge.
Wilson throws for 187 yards, rushes for 67 | 01/06/2013 8:55 PM
NewsRussell Wilson completed 15-of-26 passes for 187 yards and a touchdown and added eight rushes for 67 yards versus the Redskins in the Wild Card round of the playoffs.
ImpactWilson was shaky against Jim Haslett's blitzes early on and ended up taking five sacks on the afternoon. Although he made a bigger impact with his legs than his arm, Wilson made key blocks on Marshawn Lynch runs and hit Zach Miller for a crucial 22-yard pass play on third down to set up the go-ahead touchdown. Wilson has a tougher matchup next week against Mike Nolan's secondary that gave both Peyton and Eli Manning their worst games of the season.
