HC Gruden: No one trying to trade for Cousins | 03/26/2014 8:19 AM
NewsCoach Jay Gruden said the Redskins haven't heard from any teams regarding a Kirk Cousins trade.
John Keim on Twitter
ImpactOnce the Redskins put it out there that they wanted a second-round pick in exchange for Cousins, the rumors predictably died out. The third-year man is not going anywhere despite his offseason campaign. "You need two great quarterbacks," Gruden said. "The way Robert plays, you never know what can happen."
Schefter: Kirk Cousins not going anywhere | 03/02/2014 2:59 PM
NewsESPN's Adam Schefter stated on the Ross Tucker Podcast that two informed sources have told him the Redskins will not trade Kirk Cousins.
Ross Tucker Podcast
ImpactSchefter recently tweeted Cousins "is not going anywhere." Stated Schefter on Tucker's podcast, "Somebody told me not even with an ounce of hesitation that basically there's no way they're trading Kirk Cousins. ... And then, there was somebody else that I spoke to, who basically said 'that's exactly right. Not happening.'" Per Schefter, "Nobody's made an offer for Kirk Cousins, to my knowledge. They're not interested in listening to offers for Kirk Cousins. It's not gonna happen. That's why I tweeted he's not going anywhere."
Cousins keeps talking about wanting to play | 02/24/2014 11:17 AM
NewsKirk Cousins again stated his desire to be a starter.
ImpactThis story just won't die. Cousins is like just about every other NFL backup in that he wants to get on the field consistently and prove to the world he's a difference-maker. But he's entering the third year of a four-year contract and the Redskins reportedly want a second-round pick in exchange for their RG3 insurance plan. It's not going to happen, meaning Cousins needs to accept his role in Washington and not be a distraction.
Redskins 'have no plans' to trade QB Cousins | 02/21/2014 8:59 AM
NewsESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Redskins "have no plans" to trade Kirk Cousins.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
Impact"He's not going anywhere," Schefter added. The Redskins were said to be seeking a second-round pick for their backup quarterback, and we'd find it hard to believe they'd turn that down if one was offered to them. However, there's little chance any team is willing to surrender that type of compensation for Cousins. He simply means more to the Redskins as a reliable backup to RGIII.
Report: Skins want second-rounder for Cousins | 02/19/2014 1:04 PM
NewsA source tells the Washington Post that the Redskins want a second-round pick in exchange for Kirk Cousins.
ImpactThey're highly unlikely to get it. Cousins profiles as more of a plus backup than a quality starter, as evidenced by his 56.2 completion percentage, 51.5 QBR and 8:10 TD-to-INT ratio in eight career games. It would be a sign of absolute desperation if a quarterback-needy team gave up a second-rounder for Cousins. The most likely outcome here has him returning to Washington as Robert Griffin III's backup.
Kirk Cousins not expected to be traded | 02/18/2014 10:43 AM
NewsThe Washington Post reports Kirk Cousins is "going nowhere."
ImpactCousins means more to the Redskins than he would bring back in a trade. He's a valuable backup, and no team in its right mind is going to give up a premium draft pick for a guy with a career 68.6 quarterback rating and 8:10 TD:INT ratio. The only way Cousins could get his wish and be traded out of Washington is if a needy team fails to land a quarterback in May's draft and panics and offers up a high 2015 draft pick. We fully expect Cousins to be holding the clipboard in D.C.
Kirk Cousins undergoes LASIK eye surgery | 02/13/2014 8:13 PM
NewsKirk Cousins underwent LASIK eye surgery on Tuesday.
ImpactCousins is hopeful the operation will lead to improved on-field play. "In this league the difference between Pro Bowl and getting cut is that small," Cousins said. "The more you can see out of the corner of your eye - blitzes, pass protection, open receivers - all of it is effective." Slightly better vision is hardly going to be a game-changer for Cousins, but it's a classic "couldn't hurt."
Kirk Cousins reiterates he's open to trade | 02/12/2014 12:56 PM
NewsKirk Cousins reiterated on Sirius XM NFL Radio Wednesday that he would welcome a trade out of Washington.
Sirius XM NFL Radio
Impact"I'm open to a trade but I love Washington, the city, and fans," said Cousins. "My goal is to be a starting quarterback but I'm willing to wait my turn at the same time. Open to all options." Cousins turns 26 later this offseason. He could fetch a mid- to late-round pick, though it remains to be seen whether GM Bruce Allen believes that's worth it to part with a solid backup.
Report: Very unlikely CLE trades for Cousins | 02/05/2014 9:51 AM
NewsA source tells the Cleveland Plain Dealer that the Browns are "highly unlikely" to trade for Kirk Cousins.

Mort: New Browns OC Shanahan 'loves' Cousins | 02/03/2014 3:42 PM
NewsESPN's Chris Mortensen stated on NFL Insiders that new Browns OC Kyle Shanahan "loves" Kirk Cousins.
ImpactESPN NFC East reporter Dan Graziano chimed in, saying he recently spoke to an executive on a quarterback-needy club who "wouldn't give up more than a three (third-round pick) for Cousins." Cousins has essentially asked the Redskins to trade him, but they won't get a premium draft choice. The Browns do have a lot of 2014 picks and could conceivably make Washington a mid-round offer.

NewsESPN's Adam Schefter reports Kirk Cousins is open to an offseason trade.
Cousins buries trade value with ugly finale | 12/29/2013 4:49 PM
NewsKirk Cousins completed 19-of-49 passes for 169 yards with no touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's 20-6 Week 17 loss to the Giants.
ImpactSo much for the Redskins boosting Cousins' trade value by showcasing him in the wake of Robert Griffin's benching. Yes, this game was played in driving rain. But Cousins repeatedly made bad decisions and was inaccurate, nearly getting picked off another fistful of times. In three starts this year, he completed 69-of-130 passes (53.0 percent) for 747 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions. He was especially poor in the last two weeks despite plus matchups, torpedoing any chance the Skins had of flipping him for a first- or second-day draft pick. Cousins will likely be back as RG3's clipboard holder in 2014.
50-50 chance of storms for Cowboys at Skins | 12/22/2013 10:03 AM
NewsSunday's Cowboys-Redskins game at FedEx Field is expected to be played in the rain.
ImpactTemperatures are expected to be in the low 70s with winds whipping around at 14-17 MPH, per Weather.com. There's a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms in mid-afternoon. NFL Network's Kimberly Jones, who is on scene in Landover, reports it's currently raining and is expected to rain even harder at game time.
Dallas is getting shredded by backup QBs | 12/18/2013 9:21 AM
NewsKirk Cousins is the fourth straight backup quarterback the Cowboys will face.
ImpactOver the last three weeks, Dallas has seen Matt McGloin, Josh McCown and Matt Flynn. Their rancid defense has allowed that trio to go 71-of-105 (67.6 percent) for 902 yards with eight touchdowns and two interceptions. Now it's Kirk Cousins turn as he gets the Cowboys for the Redskins' home finale. Cousins has gone over 300 yards in each of his two career starts and has five touchdowns, putting him on the borderline QB1 radar for this dream matchup.
Redskins didn't alter offense for Cousins | 12/16/2013 8:28 PM
NewsCoach Mike Shanahan says the Redskins didn't change the offense for Kirk Cousins.
Impact"You have the same dropback, you have the same ability to run quarterback keeps or half-rolls or bootlegs, waggles, different types of screens depending what the defense is giving you, so that's part of our offensive scheme," Shanahan said. Cousins did pick up a first down with a keeper around the left edge. The most noticeable thing was that Cousins was pretty accurate in the intermediate passing game. He had some zip on his throws, but let's not get carried away. The Redskins were facing a hopeless Falcons team. Cousins will be on the QB2 radar against the Cowboys in Week 16. Dallas has much more to play for.
Rival GMs think Cousins could net 2nd rounder | 12/12/2013 7:48 PM
NewsNFL.com's Ian Rapoport surveyed six rival general managers about Redskins QB Kirk Cousins' trade value, and "everyone" believed he could fetch a second-round pick.
Ian Rapoport on Twitter
ImpactThis is where it's worth noting that backup quarterbacks often have grossly exaggerated trade value. Similar things were said about Matt Flynn in Green Bay, and Brian Hoyer in New England. Cousins could buck the trend with a successful three-game stint in place of Robert Griffin III, but he'd have to be really, really good. This isn't the last we've heard of this story.
Report: Redskins will start Cousins over RG3 | 12/11/2013 9:21 AM
NewsA high-ranking team official tells ESPN that Kirk Cousins will start Sunday's game against the Falcons.
Redskins may start Kirk Cousins in Week 15 | 12/09/2013 3:20 PM
NewsRedskins coach Mike Shanahan told reporters Monday he is considering starting Kirk Cousins in Week 15 against Atlanta.
ImpactCousins completed 7-of-16 throws for 59 yards in Sunday's loss to Kansas City, replacing Robert Griffin III midway through the fourth quarter down 45-10. Shanahan threatening to bench RG3 for, as he explained, the possibility Griffin might get injured in Washington's final three games is the ultimate slap in the face to owner Dan Snyder. Look for Shanahan's firing shortly, perhaps as soon as tonight. If Cousins gets the start, he'll be on the two-quarterback-league radar in a plus matchup indoors at Atlanta.
Kirk Cousins manages 59 yards in relief | 12/08/2013 6:57 PM
NewsOn in relief of Robert Griffin III in Washington's Week 14 blowout loss to the Chiefs, Kirk Cousins completed 7-of-16 passes for 59 yards.
ImpactCousins came on midway through the fourth quarter with Washington trailing 45-10. He was extremely ineffective, though that's not surprising for a player who wasn't expecting to see time against one of the league's best defenses. Coach Mike Shanahan seemed to (barely) crack the door open for Cousins to start in Week 15, but we'd be extremely surprised to see the Redskins made a change at quarterback.
Kirk Cousins 'no doubt' will be ready Week 1 | 08/26/2013 9:15 PM
NewsRedskins backup QB Kirk Cousins (foot) told reporters Monday there's "no doubt" he'll be ready for Week 1.
Impact"No doubt at all," said Cousins. He's resumed practicing and will be ready to back up RG3. Cousins finished the preseason 8-of-10 passing for 71 yards, one touchdown, and no turnovers. While hubbub Cousins has starting-caliber ability has been grossly overblown, he's one of the NFL's top young backups. Strictly from a skill-set standpoint, Cousins is more in the Kevin Kolb range.

Kirk Cousins (foot) will be ready for Week 1 | 08/20/2013 1:07 PM
NewsFOX Sports' Alex Marvez reports an MRI on Kirk Cousins' right foot came back negative, and that he's expected to be ready for Week 1.
Alex Marvez on Twitter
ImpactHe avoided serious damage and may even suit up for Washington's preseason finale. Cousins' health will only be an issue for the Redskins if Robert Griffin III (knee) isn't cleared for Week 1, but all indications are that he will be.
'Indications' are Cousins avoided Lisfranc | 08/19/2013 11:27 PM
NewsUpdating previous items, Kirk Cousins (right foot sprain) is in a walking boot but "preliminary indications" are he has avoided a Lisfranc injury.
Rich Campbell on Twitter
ImpactCousins will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, and he's taking the cautious route with his foot. The second-year quarterback is on crutches and isn't putting much pressure on his foot as he heads home for the night. We should have an update on Cousins tomorrow, but there's no reason to believe it's a serious injury.
Kirk Cousins diagnosed with mid-foot sprain | 08/19/2013 9:48 PM
NewsUpdating a previous item, Kirk Cousins suffered a mid-foot sprain in Monday night's preseason game against the Steelers.
ImpactX-rays came back negative, and we'd say Cousins will be fine in time for the regular season. He may not play much -- or at all -- the rest of the preseason, so Rex Grossman and Pat White should get plenty of work. Cousins couldn't get off the field after Steelers OLB Lawrence Timmons landed on the back of his legs, but Cousins reportedly barely limped to the locker room.
Cousins exits Monday's game with foot injury | 08/19/2013 9:05 PM
NewsKirk Cousins left Monday night's preseason game against the Steelers with a right foot injury and is questionable to return.
ImpactHe won't be returning to a meaningless preseason game. Cousins tried to get to the sideline on a seven-yard scamper, but he was caught from behind by Steelers OLB Lawrence Timmons. Timmons landed on the back of Cousins' right leg, and the second-year quarterback's foot bent awkwardly underneath him. He tried to return to the huddle, but instead sat on the field and limped to the locker room. Cousins has started both preseason games with Robert Griffin III out, and has completed 8-of-10 passes for 71 yards and a touchdown. Rex Grossman replaced him in the lineup, and we'll call Cousins day-to-day for now.
Kirk Cousins has been up & down in camp | 08/08/2013 1:43 PM
NewsAccording to the Washington Post, Redskins second-year QB Kirk Cousins "hasn't had the sharpest of camps."
ImpactCousins is gobbling up first-team reps with Robert Griffin III limited to 7-on-7s, but reportedly "hasn't been accurate on a consistent basis." Cousins is tentatively expected to start all four preseason games, where he'll attempt to show his worth to the rest of the league. Cousins has average arm strength and moderate athleticism, but demonstrated offensive command as a rookie.
Kirk Cousins taking snaps out of Pistol | 05/31/2013 12:28 PM
NewsKirk Cousins has been taking snaps out of the Pistol formation in Redskins OTAs.
ImpactCousins' athleticism is not a strong suit, but he's not a statue. It's an indication the Redskins aren't planning to totally scrap their innovative offense if Robert Griffin III (knee surgery) isn't ready for Week 1. That being said, coach Mike Shanahan will be forced to operate out of a far more traditional base if Cousins is pressed into action.
Kirk Cousins leading Redskins workouts | 05/24/2013 3:03 PM
NewsKirk Cousins is getting all of the Redskins first-team offseason reps as Robert Griffin III rehabs his ACL and LCL tears.
Impact"With the extra added reps that he's getting," said Mike Shanahan, "you can see the progression in his game." It's a reminder that Cousins could inherit some fantasy value if Griffin encounters a setback or gets injured again. Cousins saw action in three games as a rookie, starting one. He completed 33-of-48 passes (68.8 percent) for 466 yards (9.7 YPA) and a 4:3 TD-to-INT ratio.
