Saints quarterback Drew Brees is still not performing up to his standards. | 10/19/2014 7:10 PM
NewsSaints quarterback Drew Brees is still not performing up to his standards.
ImpactIt is a little bit unfair because the expectations for Brees are sky-high. That being said, owners expect a first-round quarterback to perform at a very high level. Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers have turned it around after slow starts, but Brees has not. Brees was 28-for-45 with 342 yards, two touchdowns and one interception.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees threw the ball 57 times for 371 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. | 10/05/2014 6:41 PM
NewsSaints quarterback Drew Brees threw the ball 57 times for 371 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions.
ImpactThe three interceptions certainly put a damper on Brees' day, but the quarterback was able to bring the Saints back from a 11-point deficit in what really was a must-win against Tampa Bay. Brees was also able to overcome losing his favorite target Jimmy Graham.

NewsSaints quarterback Drew Brees was missing in action for the first three quarters but filled up the box score in the fourth quarter enough to satisfy fantasy owners.
ImpactHe was 32-of-44 for 340 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston were his two primary targets.

NewsSaints quarterback Drew Brees leads team to first win of season.

Saints quarterback Drew Brees couldn't do much against the Cleveland Browns pass defense, throwing for just 237 yards. | 09/16/2014 10:15 AM
NewsSaints quarterback Drew Brees couldn't do much against the Cleveland Browns pass defense, throwing for just 237 yards.
ImpactBrees looks completely healthy, but had trouble getting the ball to his wide receivers, instead settling for his running backs and tight ends. Marques Colston was shut out and the other wideouts caught nine balls for just 79 yards.
In his preseason debut, Saints quarterback Drew Brees completed 9-of-15 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns in one quarter against the Colts on Saturday. | 08/23/2014 9:22 PM
NewsIn his preseason debut, Saints quarterback Drew Brees completed 9-of-15 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns in one quarter against the Colts on Saturday.
ImpactBrees looks completely healthy and ready to wreak havoc on the NFL this season. He found Jimmy Graham for a 38-yard touchdown and then Marques Colston for a 13-yard score. With the elite weapons he has again on offense, Brees could lead fantasy quarterbacks in scoring this season.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees (oblique) is back at practice, according to Larry Holder of The Times-Picayune. | 08/17/2014 6:57 PM
NewsSaints quarterback Drew Brees (oblique) is back at practice, according to Larry Holder of The Times-Picayune.
ImpactBrees missed some time due to the injury, but was never in danger of missing the season opener. Friday. TSN's projection have Brees throwing for 5,284 yards, 40 TDs and 13 interceptions. Only Peyton Manning can rival those numbers.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees (oblique) is still dealing with a strained oblique. | 08/11/2014 9:50 PM
NewsSaints quarterback Drew Brees (oblique) is still dealing with a strained oblique.
ImpactHe's unlikely to play in the second preseason game Friday. Brees should be fine for the regular season, but we'd like him to get reps with rookie receiver Brandin Cooks.
Saints quarterback Drew Brees sat out Saturday's scrimmage with a strained left oblique, according to a New Orleans Times-Picayune. | 08/02/2014 1:25 PM
NewsSaints quarterback Drew Brees sat out Saturday's scrimmage with a strained left oblique, according to a New Orleans Times-Picayune.
ImpactIt's not supposed to be serious, but any time spent sitting on the sidelines is less time to work with young receivers like Brandin Cooks and Kenny Stills.
Drew Brees plans to play into his 40s | 05/23/2014 2:14 PM
NewsDrew Brees told the Associated Press he "hopes" to play into his 40s.
Impact"Do I hope I can play into my 40s? Yes, I do," said Brees, who turned 35 in January. "As long as I'm healthy and playing at a high level, why not? I certainly don't take it for granted and know that obviously you've got to prove yourself every year." Brees is signed with the Saints through 2016, his age-37 campaign. He's been a top-two fantasy quarterback in five of the last six seasons.
Drew Brees willing to restructure contract | 01/14/2014 10:22 AM
NewsDrew Brees said he's willing to restructure his contract this offseason.
New Orleans Times-Picayune
ImpactDon't interpret this the wrong way and assume Brees will take a pay cut to help out the organization. He said he'd restructure, a process of moving money around to kick salary cap concerns down the road. It happens constantly throughout every team in the league. Brees, who will turn 35 on Wednesday and is set to count $18.4 million against the 2014 cap, knows his championship window is getting smaller. "Whatever I can do to help this team," he said.
Drew Brees struggles as Saints get eliminated | 01/11/2014 7:52 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 24-of-43 passes for 309 yards and a touchdown in New Orleans' 23-15, Divisional Round loss to the Seahawks.
ImpactBrees' final stats aren't indicative of the way he played. Brees entered halftime just 5-of-12 for 34 yards. The Seahawks dropped two readymade picks in the fourth quarter. Brees was certainly better after the break, but had trouble with the wind and rain, and couldn't find No. 1 option Jimmy Graham before New Orleans' futile final drive. It was a dismal ending to an otherwise stellar season, one that will fuel the narrative that he's not an elite quarterback outside of the Superdome. Either way, Brees' 5,162 regular-season passing yards were fifth most all time. He'll remain a top-three fantasy option for 2014.
High winds & rain in Saints-Seahawks forecast | 01/11/2014 9:48 AM
NewsThe forecast for Saturday's Saints-Seahawks game at CenturyLink Field is calling for a 70 percent chance of rain throughout and high winds ranging from 28-30 MPH.
ImpactTemperature won't be a problem -- it's in the 40s all day in Seattle -- but it's going to be rainy and very windy at the "Clink," which favors the hometown Seahawks versus the pass-happy Saints. The wind is expected to involve gusts even stronger than 30 MPH, a concern for passing. Seattle's defense already posed a physical mismatch for New Orleans' offense, and now has an extra advantage.
Drew Brees struggles, Saints still advance | 01/05/2014 12:30 AM
NewsDrew Brees completed 20-of-30 passes for 250 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's Wild Card win at Philadelphia.

NewsDrew Brees (knee) is listed as probable for Week 17.

ImpactBrees is dealing with a bruised right knee. It's not considered a concern for his Week 17 status.
Drew Brees limited in Saints practice | 12/25/2013 8:19 PM
NewsDrew Brees was limited in Saints practice with a knee injury Wednesday.
ImpactBrees' injury was not mentioned by himself or coach Sean Payton during their Wednesday media interviews, which suggests it's of little or no concern for Week 17. Look for Brees to shred the Buccaneers in the regular season finale.
Brees battered as Saints take critical loss | 12/22/2013 4:25 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 30-of-44 passes for 281 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in New Orleans' 17-13, Week 16 loss to the Panthers.
Drew Brees has right hand in ice after game | 12/15/2013 9:51 PM
NewsDrew Brees had his right (throwing) hand wrapped in ice following Sunday's loss at St. Louis.
ImpactBrees played the entire game without issue and said his hand is fine. We're only noting this because there might not be a more valuable body part in the entire league. Brees should be fine to practice come Wednesday ahead of a difficult and pivotal Week 16 game at Carolina.
Brees lights up Panthers for 313 yards, 4 TDs | 12/08/2013 11:42 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 30-of-42 passes for 313 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday night's Week 14 win over the Panthers.
ImpactBrees was highly effective in the short passing game, completing the majority of his passes by exploiting soft spots in the Panthers' zone defense. He connected with Marques Colston for a six-yard touchdown in the second quarter and later hit him on a post route over the middle from 15 yards out at the end of first half. Both of his other touchdowns went to Jimmy Graham inside the red-zone. Brees was coming off a game where he passed for just 147 yards against the Seahawks, so it was a strong bounce back performance. He'll remain a top-three QB1 in a Week 15 matchup with the Rams.
Brees averages just 3.86 YPA in blowout loss | 12/02/2013 11:59 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 23-of-38 passes for 147 yards and one touchdown in Monday night's Week 13, 34-7 blowout loss to the Seahawks.
ImpactBrees' 3.87 YPA was his worst single-game average since Week 17 of the 2003 season when he was a member of the Chargers. He failed to reach 200 yards through the air Monday night, ending a streak of 43 consecutive games he'd accomplished that feat. Brees was harassed all night by Seattle's pass rush and missed a number of throws. His receivers also didn't help him much by not attacking a couple balls and failing to hold onto a few others. Brees also lost a fumble that was returned for a touchdown by Michael Bennett in the first quarter. The Saints went three-and-out on their first three possessions. After 12 games, Brees is on pace to complete 67.7 percent of his passes for 5,058 yards, 38 touchdowns, and ten interceptions. He's a top-two fantasy quarterback most weeks. The 9-3 Saints host the 9-3 division-rival Panthers on Sunday Night Football next week.
Panthers vs. Saints flexed into SNF Week 14 | 11/24/2013 10:26 PM
NewsThe Week 14 Panthers at Saints game has been flexed into NBC's Sunday Night Football.
ImpactThe matchup of NFC South Super Bowl contenders replaces Falcons at Packers. That game will now kick off at 1pm ET on FOX. It's a no-brainer for NBC, as the 8-3 Panthers are on a seven-game winning streak and the 9-2 Saints desperately need home-field advantage in the playoffs. This game could end up deciding the division title and a bye in the Wild Card round.
Brees, Saints sleepwalk past lifeless Falcons | 11/21/2013 11:29 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 22-of-33 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns in New Orleans' 17-13, Week 12 win over the Falcons.
ImpactThanks to a bizarre late-game play designed to help drain the clock, Brees finished with -6 yards on four rushes. It was a far from scintillating effort for fantasy's No. 2 quarterback, but efficient enough for a victory. Brees missed some easy throws, but stuck the ones that mattered, including a 44-yard bomb on play action to Jimmy Graham for a second-quarter touchdown. The yards were Brees' second fewest of the season, but the two-touchdown effort was his ninth in 11 games. Brees will face his toughest test of the year in Week 13, where the Saints will venture to Seattle for Monday Night Football.
Drew Brees throws for 4 TDs in SNF blowout | 11/10/2013 11:55 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 34-of-41 passes for 392 yards and four touchdowns in Sunday night's Week 10 win over the Cowboys.
ImpactBrees took advantage of an injured Dallas defense and rarely missed on any of his throws, completing 19 straight passes during the first half. It was his seventh straight multi-touchdown game and the 392 yards were his second highest total of the season. Brees didn't have any turnovers after throwing two interceptions in last week's loss to the Jets. Even with an upcoming matchup against the 49ers, Brees will remain a top-five QB1 in Week 10.
Brees beat up by Jets, still goes for 385 | 11/03/2013 5:07 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 30-of-51 passes for 385 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in Sunday's Week 9 loss to the Jets.
ImpactMarques Colston (knee) was inactive, Darren Sproles got concussed on the opening drive and Jimmy Graham (foot) didn't play every snap. No matter. Brees overcame bad drops from Nick Toon to go over 300 yards for the sixth time in eight games. Like a machine, he's on pace for 5,344 yards, 42 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Brees is going to humiliate the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football from the Superdome in Week 10.
Drew Brees not sharp in loss to Patriots | 10/13/2013 8:16 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 17-of-36 passes for 236 yards with two touchdowns and one interceptions in Sunday's Week 6 loss at New England.
ImpactBrees was not sharp and appeared unsure of where to go with the football as Aqib Talib bottled up Jimmy Graham. This was the first time since Week 1 of the 2012 season that he completed less than 50 percent of his passes. Credit excellent game-planning from the Patriots defense and move on. Brees is averaging 326.3 passing yards per game and has thrown 14 touchdowns as the Saints head into the Week 7 bye.
Brees throws for 288 yds, 2 TDs in Week 5 win | 10/06/2013 4:17 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 29-of-35 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's Week 5, 26-18 win over the Bears.
ImpactBrees didn't take many shots downfield in this one. He targeted his running backs on 17 of his 35 throws, taking what the Chicago defense was giving him. Brees did connect with Jimmy Graham on a nice 38-yarder and Nick Toon for 35 yards, but that was mostly it in the vertical attack. Brees' consecutive 300-yard passing games streak ends at nine games. Both of his touchdowns went to Pierre Thomas. The 5-0 Saints travel to New England next Sunday.
Brees tosses 4 TDs as Saints rout Dolphins | 09/30/2013 11:51 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 30-of-39 passes for 413 yards and four touchdowns in Monday night's Week 4, 38-17 victory over the Dolphins.
ImpactThe New Orleans offense put on a clinic, and the Saints are now 4-0 as they sit comfortably atop the NFC South at the quarter pole. The Dolphins took Jimmy Graham away for stretches of time in the first half, so Brees instead worked it to Darren Sproles with ease on screens, flat routes, and wheel routes out of the backfield. There's no stopping this team. After four games, Brees is on pace to complete 444-of-664 passes for 5,736 yards, 40 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. The Saints travel to take on the 3-1 Bears next Sunday.
Drew Brees struggles in win over Bucs | 09/15/2013 9:01 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 26-of-46 passes for 322 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions in Sunday's Week 2 win over the Bucs.
ImpactBrees really struggled against disguised zones of the Bucs. Twice he was picked off when a linebacker baited him into thinking he was in man coverage and then dropped off to a receiver behind him. Still, Brees engineered a late drive with no timeouts and a short clock to get his team into a short field-goal for Garrett Hartley. Expect a far better outing in a Week 3 home game against the Cardinals.
Brees typically methodical in win over ATL | 09/08/2013 4:02 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 26-of-35 passes for 357 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in New Orleans' 23-17 Week 1 win over the Falcons.
Brees looks ready in final preseason tune up | 08/25/2013 5:12 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 4-of-6 passes for 104 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's third preseason game against the Texans.
Drew Brees lights up Raiders in exhibition gm | 08/16/2013 10:34 PM
NewsDrew Brees completed 14-of-18 passes for 202 yards and a touchdown in Friday night's preseason game against the Raiders.
ImpactIt should be noted Oakland's pass rush was an absolute joke on Friday night, literally giving Brees a dozen free seconds in the pocket on one particular first-quarter pass play. Brees has been his typically stellar self in August. Through two exhibition games, he's completed 21-of-28 passes (75 percent) for 267 yards (9.54 YPA), the touchdown, and zero turnovers.
Brees' '12 struggles due to lack of run game? | 03/21/2013 3:11 PM
NewsCoach Sean Payton blamed Drew Brees' 2012 struggles on the lack of a running game.
New Orleans Times-Picayune
Impact"Just attempts," Payton said. "I think that it's easy to get into the mind-set that we throw it well, let's continue to. There's a whole other element in football." New Orleans ranked No. 25 in the league in rushing last season, but they were No. 6 the year before. Despite leading the league in passing yards and touchdowns, Brees threw 19 interceptions. Look for Payton to pound the running game more with Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas, and Chris Ivory in 2013.
Brees says he's willing to re-work contract | 02/27/2013 6:31 PM
NewsDrew Brees says he's "always willing to consider anything" that will improve the Saints' cap situation.
New Orleans Times-Picayune
ImpactBrees was put on the spot about Tom Brady's team-friendly extension in a Wednesday radio interview. It's a nice gesture, but probably an empty one. Brees' cap numbers are already colossal for each of the four years remaining on his deal. The Saints will look elsewhere for cap relief.
Drew Brees sees 2013 as | 02/02/2013 10:54 AM
NewsIn an interview with Pro Football Talk, Drew Brees said he sees the 2013 season as a "new era" for the franchise.
Pro Football Talk
Impact"We have as much to prove to each other as we do to anybody else," Brees said. "How do we get back to feeling like we felt before when we were winning games and winning championships?" Most of the Saints key pieces on offense will be returning next season, though Devery Henderson is a free agent. When asked about the possibility on Randy Moss joining the Saints, Brees initially laughed and suggested that "you never know how things shake out." Moss previously worked out for the Saints during his 2011 retirement.
