Von Miller undergoes surgery Thursday | 01/09/2014 9:29 PM
NewsBroncos OLB Von Miller underwent surgery on his torn right ACL Thursday.
Jeff Legwold on Twitter
ImpactAs previously reported, Miller is facing a 6-9 month recovery timeline. That's just a vague estimate before Miller gets back on the practice field. He'll almost certainly begin training camp on the reserve/PUP list, and is highly questionable for Week 1.
Von Miller to have ACL surgery Wednesday | 01/07/2014 1:15 PM
NewsVon Miller will undergo ACL surgery on Wednesday.
ImpactMiller tore his right ACL in Week 16. Players typically need to wait a few weeks for the swelling to go down before they can have surgery. A member of Dr. James Andrews' group will perform the reconstruction in Florida. Miller will miss all of OTAs and likely at least a portion of training camp. Shaun Phillips and Nate Irving will try and pick up the slack for the Broncos in the playoffs.
Broncos officially place Von Miller on I.R. | 12/24/2013 6:13 PM
NewsBroncos placed OLB Von Miller on injured reserve with a torn right ACL, ending his season.
ImpactLB Brandon Marshall was promoted from the practice squad in a corresponding roster move. Miller is reportedly facing a 6-9 month recovery timeline, but initial ACL return timetables are always just vague estimates. There's a real chance Miller will be back for Week 1, but as Robert Griffin III proved this season, that's not necessary the best thing. Dependent on his rare explosiveness off the edge, Miller would be well served not to rush. The 24-year-old superstar has 35 sacks across 40 career games.
Broncos relatively optimistic on Von Miller | 12/24/2013 8:58 AM
NewsThe Broncos are optimistic Von Miller will fully recover from his torn ACL because there is no other damage to his knee.
ImpactACL injuries are sometimes accompanied by damage to the MCL, LCL or PCL. Miller sustained a clean tear, which should make his impending surgery and subsequent rehab relatively straightforward. According the Denver Post, he's facing a 6-9 month timetable and the "expectation" is that the dominant edge rusher will be back for Week 1 of 2014. Of course, putting timetables on Miller just days removed from his injury is silly. Ask Robert Griffin III or Derrick Rose.
Broncos lose All-Pro Von Miller to ACL tear | 12/23/2013 12:30 PM
NewsA Monday MRI confirmed an ACL tear for Broncos OLB Von Miller.
Broncos fear 'significant' injury for Miller | 12/22/2013 3:11 PM
NewsThe Denver Post reports the Broncos fear Von Miller's Week 16 knee injury is "significant."
ImpactIt seemed like a good sign when Miller walked off the field under his own power, but that doesn't mean he didn't suffer a ligament tear. Per the Post, Miller is scheduled to undergo testing Monday on the knee. Miller suffered the injury on the Broncos' second defensive possession of Sunday's game.
Von Miller exits with knee injury | 12/22/2013 1:27 PM
NewsVon Miller exited Sunday's Week 16 game with a first-quarter knee injury.
ImpactMiller was clearly shaken up, but made his way off the field under his own power. His return is being deemed questionable. Miller has appeared in eight games this season, registering five sacks and three forced fumbles.
Von Miller is off suspension, back with DEN | 10/14/2013 10:46 AM
NewsBroncos OLB Von Miller's six-game suspension is over.
ImpactThe 6-0 Broncos are about to get even better. Over the last two seasons, Miller has racked up 132 tackles, a jaw-dropping 30 sacks, eight forced fumbles and one interception. He's used his time off to get up to 262 pounds (he entered the NFL at 246 pounds) while trimming down to 10 percent body fat. IDP owners can get Miller back in lineups right away.
Von Miller tried to corrupt NFL drug program | 09/22/2013 10:11 AM
NewsESPN's Adam Schefter and Chris Mortensen reported suspended Broncos OLB Von Miller unsuccessfully tried to corrupt the NFL drug testing program.
Report: 'Only' a bench warrant for Von Miller | 09/12/2013 1:47 PM
NewsCBS Sports reports there isn't an arrest warrant out for suspended Broncos SLB Von Miller in California, but rather a bench warrant for an unpaid speeding ticket.
ImpactA bench warrant means Miller would be subject to arrest if he was pulled over for another traffic violation in the Golden State, but he's not the subject on any ongoing criminal investigations. Miller would find life much easier if he simply paid his traffic tickets.
Open warrant for Von Miller's arrest in Cali. | 09/11/2013 10:12 PM
NewsThe Denver Post reports there is an open warrant out for suspended Broncos SLB Von Miller in California.
ImpactThe warrant is for Miller's failure to appear for a traffic ticket issued last year. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell's hands may be tied when it comes to traffic citations, but arrest warrants could be another matter entirely. We're almost expecting Goodell to add to Miller's six-game suspension at this point. The NFL wanted a longer ban before that disciplined was handed down.
Goodell could add to Miller's 6-game ban | 09/11/2013 11:32 AM
NewsCommissioner Roger Goodell has the authority to add to Von Miller's current six-game suspension.
ImpactGoodell is notoriously hard on repeat offenders. Although Miller's latest transgressions are of the traffic citation variety, they come while he was already on suspension. He was also arrested in August on a failure to appear warrant. The Broncos need to get this guy a driver.
Von Miller cited again for traffic violation | 09/11/2013 8:41 AM
NewsBroncos SLB Von Miller was cited for speeding and driving with a suspended license last week.
ImpactThis dude just can't stay out of trouble. Already serving a six-game ban for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, he's now been popped for driving without a license twice within the last year. It's obviously nothing serious, but Miller is building a resume of ticking the cops off. Roger Goodell isn't going to be thrilled.
'Further violation' earned Von more games | 08/20/2013 7:13 PM
NewsFOX Sports' Mike Garafolo reports suspended Broncos SLB Von Miller was originally facing only a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, but more games were tacked on for "further violation during (Miller's) appeal."
Mike Garafolo on Twitter
ImpactPer NFL.com's Albert Breer, Miller provided a "diluted sample" at some point, but that the case has "complications that go far beyond that." Whatever Miller did angered the league, as Breer reports The Shield mulled pursuing an eight or even 16-game ban.
Schefter: Von Miller won't avoid suspension | 08/19/2013 2:56 PM
NewsESPN's Adam Schefter confirmed on NFL Insiders that Broncos SLB Von Miller will not avoid an NFL suspension.
Impact"Here's the bottom line," said Schefter. "He is going to be suspended. It could go five, six, maybe more games depending on (negotiations)." The NFL, Miller, and NFLPA are currently in discussions over the length of Miller's ban, which ESPN's Chris Mortensen reiterated will be four games at a minimum and possibly even more than six. It's obviously a huge blow to Denver's defense, as Miller is very arguably the NFL's best outside pass rusher.
ESPN: Von Miller facing 'at least' 6-game ban | 08/19/2013 11:04 AM
NewsESPN reports Broncos SLB Von Miller's suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy could be officially announced as early as Monday, and that he's facing "at least" a six-game ban.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactIt's safe to say Miller's appeal of what was expected to be a four-game suspension didn't go well, and that his recent arrest for blowing off a court appearance on traffic charges hurt his cause. It's still unclear what triggered Miller's ban, but he reportedly tested positive for both marijuana and amphetamines as a rookie. It's possible he failed a test last year, as well. It's a massive blow for a team adjusting to life without Elvis Dumervil, and still uncertain about LE Derek Wolfe's (neck) Week 1 status. Hopefully it's a wake-up call for Miller.
Von Miller's appeal to be heard next Tuesday? | 08/15/2013 7:09 PM
NewsESPN's Chris Mortensen reported Broncos SLB Von Miller's four-game suspension appeal "could" take place next Tuesday.
ImpactOriginally scheduled for Thursday, the appeal has been postponed as Miller instead met with NFL Players Association representatives in New York. Mort described Miller's case as "complicated." Details still haven't been made known.
Von Miller arrested after missing court date | 08/14/2013 3:57 PM
NewsABC Denver reports Broncos SLB Von Miller was arrested Sunday for failing to appear in court.
ImpactPer court records, an arrest warrant was issued January 2 after Miller missed a December 31 court date on October traffic charges. It's an extremely immature mistake, but the charges are not serious. Nevertheless, it's a bad look for a player trying to get his four-game ban for violating the league's substance-abuse policy reduced. Miller is a special talent, but obviously doesn't have his act together off the field.
Von Miller's appeal to be heard on August 15 | 08/08/2013 7:53 PM
NewsBroncos SLB Von Miller's four-game suspension appeal will be heard on Thursday, August 15.
ImpactThe exact reasons for Miller's suspension still haven't been revealed, but he'd disputing it. He tested positive for marijuana and amphetamines as a rookie. The Denver Post has reported Miller's ban is not due to a failed drug test. It may have been caused by a skipped test or if Miller was late to a drug test, which would seem to give him a decent shot to beat it.
Von Miller didn't test positive for drugs | 07/26/2013 9:58 PM
NewsThe Denver Post confirms a previous USA Today report that Von Miller's four-game suspension was not triggered by a failed drug test.
ImpactBecause Miller was already in the NFL's drug program for a positive marijuana test during his rookie year, the second violation could've been a missed test or counseling session, or even showing up late. USA Today's source insisted Miller "didn't test positive for anything." Miller's case is under appeal. It's believed the Broncos are "confident" the suspension will be overturned.
Broncos believe Miller will escape suspension | 07/26/2013 8:25 PM
NewsCiting "those close" to Von Miller, USA Today reports the Broncos are "confident" Miller will win his appeal of his four-game suspension for allegedly violating the NFL's drug policy.
Impact"He didn't test positive for anything," said a person with knowledge of the situation. The same person admitted Miller indeed tested positive for marijuana in 2011, which landed Miller in the NFL's drug program. Miller would have to have violated the league's drug policy again to warrant the four-game ban. USA Today's sources insist he did not. The date of Miller's appeal is not yet known.
Broncos are standing behind Von Miller | 07/25/2013 9:09 AM
NewsWhen asked Wednesady if marijuana is part of his life, Von Miller said, "absolutely not."
ImpactIt remains to be seen exactly what Miller tested positive for, but rumors say it was marijuana and amphetamines in 2011 followed by "Molly" more recently. The Broncos are firmly standing behind their all-world edge rusher as he awaits his appeal, saying he'll continue to work with the starters during camp. "Don't be so quick to judge," Fox said between the tent and the team headquarters that was hit with considerable turmoil this offseason. "Let's let the process play out," coach John Fox said. "Von's on our team. He's not suspended."
Von Miller appeal will be heard in mid-August | 07/24/2013 10:48 AM
NewsThe NFL is targeting mid-August as an appeal date for Von Miller's four-game suspension.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactIt's rumored Miller was suspended four games for testing positive for amphetamines and marijuana during his rookie season in 2011, and then a recent positive test for MDMA powder known as "Molly." He insists he's done nothing wrong. The NFL will be sure to get this case resolved before the regular season starts.
Von Miller: I did nothing wrong | 07/22/2013 3:00 PM
NewsBroncos SLB Von Miller tweeted Monday that he "knows" he did "nothing wrong" in regard to his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's drug policy.
Von Miller on Twitter
Impact"I'm sure this'll be resolved fairly," he added. "Disappointed Broncos have to open camp like this." It's now believed Miller failed a recent test for the drug "Molly," which is essentially ecstasy, after getting popped for marijuana and amphetamines as a rookie, although there is still little clarity as to the specific reasons for his four-game suspension. The ban remains under appeal.
Von Miller popped for amphetamines, marijuana | 07/22/2013 1:05 PM
NewsThe Denver Post reports Von Miller's four-game suspension is for testing positive for amphetamines and marijuana during his rookie season in 2011.
Mike Klis on Twitter
ImpactMiller entered the league with a positive marijuana test already on his resume, so the rookie-year violation was his second of the sort and necessitated a four-game ban. A third offense would knock Miller out for an entire season. Why the NFL took so long to suspend Miller is unclear, but it's believed he'll have a "hard" time winning his current appeal. The Broncos need to prepare to be without Miller until Week 5. Their fantasy defense takes an obvious blow, as aging replacement Shaun Phillips is a sizable downgrade.
Von Miller charged with four-game suspension | 07/22/2013 11:20 AM
NewsESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Broncos LB Von Miller is facing a four-game suspension for violating NFL policy.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactThe full details still aren't yet known, but the case is currently in the appeals process. An All-Pro linebacker in 2012, Miller has 30 sacks in his first two season and is one of the NFL's premier pass rusher. The Broncos will likely be forced to start Shaun Phillips if the suspension is upheld.
Von Miller to get head start on training camp | 06/23/2013 1:06 PM
NewsVon Miller will get a head start on training camp by reporting to the Broncos' Dove Valley facility in early July.
ImpactBroncos camp doesn't start until July 25. "It's just a choice," explained Miller. "It's all part of trying to be the best linebacker I can be and making plays for the defense." Following an 11.5-sack rookie season, Miller leaped to 18.5 sacks and six forced fumbles as a sophomore. Still only 24 years old, Miller has bypassed DeMarcus Ware as the NFL's premier edge pass rusher.
Von Miller will continue to move around | 05/17/2013 3:05 PM
NewsBroncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio promises to continue moving SLB Von Miller around the formation in 2013.
ImpactMiller played linebacker and both defensive end positions in Del Rio's first year on the job in 2012, and ranked third in the NFL in both sacks (18.5) and forced fumbles (6). Miller's tackles also rose from 64 as a rookie to 68. "Von's role is such where he does a lot -- and he'll continue to do a lot," said Del Rio. "That won't change because Elvis (Dumervil) isn't here."
Von Miller doesn't need shoulder surgery | 01/30/2013 7:23 PM
NewsBroncos SLB Von Miller says the shoulder injury that held him out of the Pro Bowl won't require surgery.
