Alshon Jeffery replaces Megatron in Pro Bowl | 01/09/2014 12:25 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery will replace Calvin Johnson (knee) in the Pro Bowl.
ImpactIt's a well-deserved honor for Jeffery. In just his second NFL season, he put up 89 catches for 1,421 yards with seven touchdowns while grading out as Pro Football Focus' No. 8 wideout. He'll join Brandon Marshall as the first duo of Bears receivers ever selected to the Pro Bowl in the same year.
Jeffery caps breakout year with 80-yard day | 12/29/2013 8:28 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught three passes for 80 yards in Chicago's Week 17 loss to the Packers.
ImpactJeffery's final catch should have gone for a 68-yard touchdown, but he was incorrectly ruled down at the one-yard line. For reasons unknown, Chicago declined to challenge. Jeffery caps his breakout sophomore campaign with 89 catches for 1,421 yards and seven touchdowns. His yards led the team. Jeffery will have a hard time matching the yardage in 2014 with Brandon Marshall still in his prime, but is a bonafide WR1 with a ceiling that's through the roof in Dynasty leagues.
Alshon Jeffery held out of end-zone | 12/23/2013 12:57 AM
NewsAlshon Jeffery had six catches for 76 yards in Sunday night's Week 16 loss to the Eagles.
ImpactJeffery was held out of the end-zone this week after scoring four touchdowns in his last three games. He shared the team lead with nine targets, but was held to just two catches in the second half. The Bears take on the Packers to decide the NFC North in their regular season finale. Jeffery had five catches for 60 yards and a touchdown against the Packers back in Week 9.
Alshon makes another ridiculous TD catch | 12/15/2013 5:25 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught five passes for 72 yards with one touchdown in Sunday's Week 15 win at Cleveland.
ImpactJay Cutler (ankle) was back in the mix and looked for his bro Brandon Marshall relentlessly (13 targets). Jeffery ended up with only five targets, but he made yet another "play of the week" kind of catch. With 11 minutes left in the game and the Bears down by seven, Cutler essentially threw a high Hail Mary into double coverage and Jeffery somehow came down with it for a 45-yard score -- his fourth touchdown in the last three weeks. Jeffery is going to run free all day against the Eagles in Week 16, so getting a few less targets at the expense of Marshall isn't a concern. The second-year man will be a borderline WR1.
Jeffery secures ridiculous TD in MNF win | 12/10/2013 12:35 AM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught five passes for 84 yards and one touchdown in Week 14 against the Cowboys.
Alshon Jeffery held to four catches in loss | 11/24/2013 5:31 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught four passes for 42 yards in Chicago's Week 12 loss to the Rams.
ImpactJeffery added one rush for four yards, and had a 27-yard run called back by a dubious holding penalty. Jeffery got out-targeted 12-8 by Brandon Marshall in getting held below 80 yards receiving for just the third time in eight games. Jeffery will be a borderline WR1 in a juicy Week 13 matchup with the Vikings.
Jeffery leads Bears in Week 11 receiving | 11/17/2013 8:13 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught seven passes for 83 yards in Week 11 versus the Ravens.
Jeffery goes over 100 yards against Lions | 11/10/2013 5:36 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught nine passes for 114 yards in Week 10 against the Lions.
Jeffery reels in another TD in win over Pack | 11/05/2013 12:29 AM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught five passes for 60 yards and one touchdown in Week 9 against the Packers.
ImpactJeffery was targeted nine times. The Chicago passing game didn't skip a beat with Josh McCown filling in for an injured Jay Cutler (groin). McCown had no issues completing short, quick passes, and he eventually found Jeffery for a six-yard score in the third quarter. It proved to be the game-winning touchdown. Jeffery beat Davon House and high-pointed a jump ball with his strong mitts on the play. At the season's midway point, Jeffery is on pace to catch 76 passes for 1,242 yards and six touchdowns. He's a legit WR2 in this offense.
Alshon Jeffery goes over 100 yards again | 10/20/2013 5:30 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught four passes for 105 yards in Sunday's Week 7 loss at Washington.
ImpactJeffery continues to impress. He went up over the middle and took an illegal blow from head-hunting Brandon Merriweather, but held onto the ball and only missed a couple plays. Jeffery now has three 100-yard games in the last four weeks and is averaging 9.0 targets per day during that span. He's a WR2 candidate with Jay Cutler (groin), but will only be a WR3 if Josh McCown is forced into starts.
Jeffery follows up career day with dud | 10/11/2013 12:28 AM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught just one pass for 27 yards in Chicago's Week 6 win over the Giants.
ImpactComing off a 10/218/1 demolition of the Saints, Jeffery drew only five targets. He hurt his cause with a drop, and wasn't on the same page with Jay Cutler on two potential deep balls. Despite the limited looks, Jeffery was inches away from a much better night. Jeffery was bound to experience some hiccups as he draws more defensive attention, but he'll remain a high-end WR3 for Week 7 against the Redskins' sub-par secondary.
Alshon Jeffery (ankle) probable for TNF | 10/09/2013 3:11 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery (ankle) is officially probable for Thursday night's Week 6 game against the Giants.
ImpactJeffery was limited in practice this week, but his status was never in doubt. He's locked in as a high-end WR3 against the Giants' 22nd ranked pass defense.
Alshon Jeffery (ankle) limited on Tuesday | 10/08/2013 3:11 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery (ankle) remained limited in Bears practice Tuesday.
Brad Biggs on Twitter
ImpactThere's been no indication Jeffery's "injury" is a concern. Averaging 7.3 catches for 125.3 yards over his past three games, Jeffery is locked in as a high-end WR3 against the Giants' terrible defense.
Marshall: Jeffery could be the best ever | 10/07/2013 10:55 AM
NewsBrandon Marshall said Alshon Jeffery "could be the best to ever do it."
ImpactMarshall was heaping hyperbole on his teammate following Jeffery's 10/218/1 line against the Saints. But it's obvious the Bears found a gem by scooping up Jeffery in the second round of the 2012 draft. He would have been a surefire first-rounder if not for a disastrous final season at South Carolina that saw him fall victim to weight gain and poor quarterback play. Jeffery will come back to earth as defenses start taking him more seriously, but he's a surefire WR3 against the Giants Thursday night.
Alshon Jeffery posts 5/107/1 line vs. Lions | 09/29/2013 5:07 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery had the best game of his young career in Chicago's Week 4 loss to the Lions, catching five passes for 107 yards and a touchdown.
ImpactHe also added 27 yards on a rush. The 100-yard afternoon was the first of Jeffery's career, and featured 2-3 tough catches. He flashed extremely strong hands on his 14-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. The only blemish was the fact that Jeffery was Jay Cutler's intended target on two of his three interceptions, but neither pick was Jeffery's fault. With 12 catches for 158 yards over his past two games, Jeffery is now on pace for a 72/844/4 line. He's in the WR3 conversation.
Alshon Jeffery targeted team-high eight times | 09/23/2013 1:14 AM
NewsAlshon Jeffery had seven catches for 51 yard in Sunday night's Week 3 win over the Steelers.
ImpactJeffery was able to bounce back after being limited to one catch last week. He picked up the majority of his yardage on the Bears' opening drive, and had just three receptions in the second half. Jeffery tied with Brandon Marshall for a team-high eight targets and was the clear No. 2 option in the passing game. His role should continue to grow moving forward.
Alshon Jeffery held to one catch vs. Vikes | 09/15/2013 5:56 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery was held to one catch for 11 yards in Chicago's Week 2 win over the Vikings.
Alshon Jeffery goes for 42 yards in Week 1 | 09/08/2013 5:49 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught five balls for 42 yards in the Bears' Week 1 win over the Bengals.
ImpactHe saw eight targets, ranking second on the team behind Brandon Marshall's ten. Jeffery is a solid possession/RAC wideout who'll have bigger games than this going forward. Consider him an intriguing WR3 in Week 2 against Minnesota.
Jeffery a 'completely different player' | 08/24/2013 2:32 PM
NewsThe Chicago Tribune notes that Bears second-year WR Alshon Jeffery "looks like a completely different player from a year ago."
ImpactBeat writer Brad Biggs says Jeffery looks "more fluid, more refined, more powerful and certainly more sure of himself" than he did as a rookie. "I'm just more experienced and the game is beginning to slow down for me," Jeffery said. Jeffery is coming off a solid third preseason game Friday night where he caught seven passes for 77 yards. We like him more as a WR4, but he could flirt with WR3 numbers.
Alshon Jeffery has solid preseason showing | 08/24/2013 12:27 AM
NewsAlshon Jeffery caught seven passes for 77 yards in the Bears' third preseason game Friday night.
ImpactLast year's second-round pick entered Friday with only one catch for 13 yards through two exhibition games, but Jay Cutler made it a point to get Jeffery involved. He responded with physical play and showed strong run-after-catch skills. We're skeptical Jeffery will be a consistent week-to-week fantasy asset, but he has plenty of talent. He could flirt with WR3 stats if he receives more targets than Martellus Bennett behind Brandon Marshall and Matt Forte.
Cutler: Jeffery has been star of camp | 08/21/2013 12:09 PM
NewsJay Cutler said Alshon Jeffery has had "the best camp out of everybody on offense."
ImpactCutler was defending himself against the notion that he throws to Brandon Marshall too much. He responded by talking up Jeffery. "He's done a great job this offseason of getting better, getting physically stronger and gaining my trust," Cutler said. "I love throwing it to him." Actions speak louder than words. Through two preseason games (26 snaps), Jeffery has two targets.
Alshon Jeffery settles in as starter | 08/04/2013 3:03 PM
NewsSecond-year WR Alshon Jeffery is reportedly practicing "with a sense of purpose" and has "clearly established himself" as the Bears' No. 2 receiver.
ImpactJeffery is primarily lining up at Z receiver, with Brandon Marshall a movable "X" and Martellus Bennett in the slot. Earl Bennett is the situational slot receiver, lining up on the other side of Bennett when the Bears get four pass catchers into routes. Barring a Marshall injury, Jeffery is a bit of a long-shot breakout candidate because he'll also be behind Matt Forte for targets.
Marshall: Jeffery was too 'soft' as a rookie | 08/01/2013 7:58 PM
NewsBrandon Marshall says Alshon Jeffery was too soft as a rookie.
ImpactJeffery spent six weeks in the offseason working out with Marshall, and the veteran says the second-year receiver is a much different player now. "It was a really explosive offseason," Marshall said. "He was softer last year, much softer. Now he's strong. He's a beast." The Bears are expecting big things from Jeffery as the No. 2 receiver in coach Marc Trestman's pass-happy scheme.
Bears expect big season from WR Jeffery | 07/14/2013 8:02 PM
NewsThe Bears expect a break-out season from wide receiver Alshon Jeffery.
ProFootballTalk on NBCSports.com
ImpactWe've seen reports throughout the offseason of Jeffery training with teammate Brandon Marshall in Florida, as well as working out on his own at the Fit Speed Athletic Performance facility to get in better shape. Chicago's receivers coach Mike Groh says Jeffery "really invested," and added he's seen improvement in Jeffery this offseason, who he believes has "tremendous potential." Jeffery is slated to be the No. 2 wide receiver in coach Marc Trestman's pass heavy offense, and should see a major improvement on his 24/367/3 rookie stat line.
Jeffery working diligently in the offseason | 04/21/2013 11:27 PM
NewsAlshon Jeffery trained at the Fit Speed Athletic Performance facility in Weston (FL) for six weeks this offseason, beginning in mid-February.
ImpactJeffery had conditioning concerns coming out of South Carolina and got injured twice as a rookie, so it's a good sign that he's enjoying a diligent offseason. Jeffery showed up to the facility at 225 pounds with 11-12 percent body fat. He left at 219 with eight percent body fat. Jeffery will return to Fit Speed in mid-June for a second round of workouts before training camp.
Alshon Jeffery to be a starter for Bears | 03/20/2013 11:28 AM
NewsNew coach Marc Trestman confirmed he expects Alshon Jeffery to be a starter.
Dan Pompei on Twitter
ImpactEarl Bennett isn't a real threat and Devin Hester will strictly be used as a return man. That leaves Jeffery, whose rookie season was crippled by a fractured right hand and knee scope. But when healthy early in the year, he showed some upside as a seam-strecher and red-zone threat. There's some upside here if Jeffery can make a leap this offseason.
Marshall to take Jeffery under his wing | 02/01/2013 5:55 PM
NewsBrandon Marshall plans to take 2012 second-round pick Alshon Jeffery under his wing this offseason, training with Jeffery in South Florida.
Impact"I'm excited because this kid has the potential to be an All-Pro one year," Marshall said. "If he just changes some little things, the way he approaches the game as far as physically and mentally, he's going to be a beast. Because he has that dog in him, he has that in him, that you want in a receiver." The Bears are desperate for a complementary receiver to emerge opposite Marshall.
