|Assets:||A playmaker. Uses good size and great hands to make tough catches. Doesn't stop running when he receives and gets good post-catch yardage thanks to deceptive long speed. Has the tools to be a clutch performer.|
|Flaws:||Not a top-tier athlete or a true speed demon. Doesn't have great bulk and may slow down if he adds it. Unproven as a return man.|

NewsBrian Hartline (knee) is participating in Dolphins OTAs.
Adam Beasley on Twitter
ImpactHartline tore his PCL last Week 17, but avoided surgery and appears to already be full-go. He will remain a low-ceiling WR4/5 option in re-draft leagues.
Jarvis Landry drafted to replace Hartline? | 05/10/2014 11:08 AM
NewsThe Palm Beach Post's Andrew Abramson speculates WR Jarvis Landry may have been drafted as WR Brian Hartline's eventual replacement.
Palm Beach Post
ImpactThe Dolphins are projected to be in cap trouble after the 2014 season and could save $3.15 million against the 2015 salary cap by parting ways with the steady but unspectacular Hartline. Mike Wallace could also be a candidate for release, but he would only save Miami $2.5 million and no one else on the roster brings Wallace's deep-threat skill set to the table. Hartline could put all of this talk to bed with a solid 2014 campaign.
Brian Hartline (knee) ahead of schedule | 04/19/2014 7:26 PM
NewsBrian Hartline (knee) is expected to ready for minicamp.
Palm Beach Post
ImpactHartline suffered a torn PCL in Week 17, but managed to avoid surgery. He hasn't had any setbacks and is currently ahead of schedule in his recovery. The Dolphins can save $4 million by releasing Hartline next offseason, so he's entering a make-or-break year in 2014.
Hartline expected to be ready for Week 1 | 03/24/2014 3:23 PM
NewsThe Miami Herald reports Brian Hartline (torn left PCL) is expected to be ready for Week 1.
Adam Beasley on Twitter
ImpactProvided Hartline avoids setbacks, he should be ready for training camp. Going on his sixth year in the league, the Dolphins don't need to rush Hartline's recovery. As usual, Hartline will be a safe, but low-upside, WR3 for the 2014 season.
Brian Hartline won't need surgery on torn PCL | 12/30/2013 11:19 AM
NewsBrian Hartline has been diagnosed with a torn PCL in his left knee.
Armando Salguero on Twitter
ImpactIt's not as bad as it sounds. Hartline won't need surgery and is fully expected to be ready for 2014 training camp after a rehab period. In fact, we'd be surprised if he wasn't ready even sooner as a PCL tear isn't nearly as severe as ACL tear. Hartline, who signed a $30.7 million contract a year ago, wrapped the season with a 76/1016/4 line. He now has a total of six touchdowns in his last 48 games.
Brian Hartline exits Week 17 with knee injury | 12/29/2013 1:39 PM
NewsBrian Hartline left Sunday's Week 17 game against the Jets with a left knee injury.
ImpactHartline was injured after a 25-yard reception in the first quarter and is listed as questionable to return. It's a huge loss for Ryan Tannehill and Miami's offense in a must-win game. Hartline managed to go over 1,000 yards receiving for the second straight season before exiting. He's very likely dealing with a serious injury. Marlon Moore has replaced him in the starting lineup.
Brian Hartline limited in two practices | 12/26/2013 7:27 PM
NewsBrian Hartline (knee) was limited in Wednesday and Thursday's practices.
ImpactThe Dolphins are likely just managing Hartline's reps ahead of Sunday's must-win game. He'll almost certainly suit up against the Jets. Hartline needs only 22 yards to surpass 1,000 on the year.
Brian Hartline drops three passes in loss | 12/22/2013 5:10 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught two passes for 53 yards in Sunday's Week 16 loss at Buffalo.
ImpactHartline turned in a brutal performance as he had three clear-cut drops and posted two grabs on 10 targets. His only real play was a 50-yard bomb from Matt Moore during garbage time. Hartline will take 978 receiving yards into a Week 17 game with the Jets, but he'll break the 1,000 barrier due to volume -- not strong play. He's now averaging 8.0 targets per game.
Brian Hartline has five-catch day vs. Pats | 12/15/2013 6:48 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught five passes for 70 yards in Miami's Week 15 win over the Patriots.
Impact5-70 is as Hartline-y as it gets. The Dolphins' No. 2 receiver will be a low-end WR3 for the final week of the fantasy playoffs, where Miami will travel to Buffalo.
Brian Hartline gets TD on toe-tapper | 12/08/2013 6:29 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught five passes for 51 yards with a touchdown in Sunday's Week 14 win at Pittsburgh.
ImpactHartline made one of the plays of the tap, going to the sideline and stretching his body while also toe-tapping for a four-yard touchdown in the third quarter. It was his second straight game with a score after going nine games without one. Hartline will be a borderline WR3 against the Patriots in Week 14 with Aqib Talib likely to shadow Mike Wallace.
Hartline burns Jets for 127 yards, touchdown | 12/01/2013 5:22 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught nine passes for 127 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Week 13 win over the Jets.
ImpactHartline led the Dolphins in receiving and finished with a team-high 15 targets. He was able to take advantage when matched up with Dee Milliner in coverage, and beat Antonio Cromartie on a 31-yard slant route for a touchdown in the third quarter. It was just his second 100-yard game of the season. Hartline has 62 receptions for 804 yards and three touchdown through 12 games. His lack of big-play ability will continue to limited him as a WR4 going forward.
Brian Hartline catches all 5 of his targets | 11/24/2013 6:13 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught five passes for 78 yards in Sunday's Week 12 loss to the Panthers.
ImpactHartline was very effective, catching all five of his targets and getting open on big third-down conversions. Of course, his inability to make big plays after the catch or be a factor in the red-zone makes him a WR4 in fantasy formats. Hartline has one 100-yard game and two touchdowns all season. Last year, he had three 100-yard games and one touchdown in 16 outings.
Brian Hartline has rough day in MIA's win | 11/17/2013 7:26 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught five passes for 65 yards in Sunday's Week 11 win over the Chargers.
ImpactHartline had an awful day. He dropped a wide open pass over the middle early on, slipped on a route that nearly cost Ryan Tannehill an interceptions and had another drop late. Still, Tannehill kept the faith and targeted Hartline a team-high 13 times. Don't expect a better performance out of Hartline against the Panthers in Week 12 -- he's a WR4 that hasn't reached 70 yards or scored a touchdown since Week 3.
Hartline hauls in five passes in Week 10 loss | 11/12/2013 12:41 AM
NewsBrian Hartline caught five passes for 57 yards in Week 10 versus Tampa Bay.
ImpactHartline was targeted eight times on the night and worked against rookie CB Johnthan Banks for much of the evening. Hartline figured to become Ryan Tannehill's go-to receiver after Brandon Gibson (torn patellar tendon) went down, but new slot receiver Rishard Matthews was that guy Monday, seeing 14 targets. Hartline has topped 69 yards receiving just once this season and hasn't scored since Week 3. He is who we thought he was. Hartline's a WR4.
Hartline limited to three catches, 39 yards | 11/01/2013 1:07 AM
NewsBrian Hartline had three catches for 39 yards in Thursday night's Week 9 win over the Bengals.
ImpactHartline was a non-factor in the first half, but came up with a sideline catch at the end of the fourth quarter that set up the game-tying field goal. He finished behind only Mike Wallace with five targets and should continue to be featured in the short-to-intermediate passing game with Brandon Gibson out for the season. Harline has 38 catches for 477 yards and two touchdowns through nine weeks.
Hartline goes for 37 yards in Week 8 | 10/27/2013 6:05 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught four passes for 37 yards in the Dolphins' Week 8 loss to New England.
ImpactAqib Talib's absence didn't end up mattering much. Ryan Tannehill spread the ball around against New England -- completing passes to nine different receivers -- but no Fins pass catcher exceeded 41 yards. Possession receiver Hartline still hasn't hit 70 yards in any game since Week 1. He'll be a poor WR3 option when the Dolphins take on the Bengals this Thursday night.
Brian Hartline held to 69 yards in Week 7 | 10/20/2013 5:46 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught six passes for 69 yards in the Dolphins' Week 7 loss to Buffalo.
ImpactPossession receiver Hartline made some critical first-down catches, but he still hasn't cleared 70 receiving yards in any game since the season opener. He's a low-ceiling WR3 option entering a Week 8 game in Foxboro.
Brian Hartline manages 60 yards in loss | 10/06/2013 5:59 PM
NewsBrian Hartline had four catches for 60 yards in Sunday's Week 5 loss to the Ravens.
ImpactHartline had seven targets and was the clear No. 2 option behind Mike Wallace. He got the majority of his yardage in Miami's two-minute offense at end of the second quarter, and was limited to just two catches for nine yards for the rest of the game. Hartline should continue to be viewed as a WR4 in re-draft leagues.
Hartline reels in three passes in MNF loss | 10/01/2013 12:50 AM
NewsBrian Hartline caught three passes for 34 yards in Monday night's Week 4 loss to the Saints.
ImpactHartline was targeted just four times, which was fourth on the team behind Brandon Gibson, Mike Wallace, and Charles Clay. On the lone misfire, Ryan Tannehill was picked off by Jabari Greer on a slant route Hartline looked to somewhat give up on. Tannehill seems to favor Hartline, but it wasn't their night. After four games, Hartline is on pace to catch 84 passes for 1,088 yards and eight touchdowns. The yards and catch totals are nearly identical to his 2012 numbers. Hartline scored just once last season. He's a WR4 most weeks.
Hartline secures a touchdown in Week 3 win | 09/22/2013 8:24 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught four passes for 56 yards and one touchdown in Sunday's Week 3 win over the Falcons.
ImpactHartline was targeted six times. He was wide open in the back left corner of the end zone for his 18-yard touchdown. With two scores through three games, Hartline has already surpassed his 2012 touchdown total. He's nothing more than a WR4. The Dolphins head to New Orleans next Monday night.
Brian Hartline held to 68 yards in Week 2 | 09/15/2013 6:06 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught five passes for 68 yards in the Dolphins' Week 2 win over the Colts.
ImpactWith the running game finally coming together and Mike Wallace back on track, Hartline took his normal backseat in the passing offense. Hartline may be a serviceable real-life NFL second receiver, but he's not a fantasy football factor. He's a low-upside WR5. The Dolphins will host the Falcons in Week 3.
Brian Hartline goes for 40 yards Sat. night | 08/24/2013 9:57 PM
NewsBrian Hartline caught four passes for 40 yards in the Dolphins' fourth preseason game Saturday night.
ImpactMiami's overpaid possession receiver has five grabs for 49 yards through four exhibition contests. Hartline's fantasy value is fleeting at best following the Mike Wallace acquisition. We wouldn't deem Hartline to have enough upside to be worth even a late-round fantasy pick. Aim higher.
Hartline lands 5-year, $30.77M deal from Fins | 03/07/2013 11:51 PM
NewsDolphins re-signed WR Brian Hartline to a five-year, $30.775 million contract.

Brian Hartline deal not quite done yet | 03/07/2013 9:02 AM
NewsThe player rep for free agent Brian Hartline said the deal with the Dolphins isn't done quite yet.
Ben Volin on Twitter
ImpactDrew Rosenhaus took to the radio on Thursday morning to stir the pot. "If it doesnt happen with Dolphins, he'll get a lucrative deal w another team very quickly," the super-agent said. From the looks of things, there are just a few details to be ironed out. An official announcement on the deal is still expected before free agency opens on Tuesday.
Hartline's deal to approach $7M annually | 03/06/2013 1:46 PM
NewsThe Dolphins' contract with free agent Brian Hartline is expected to pay him "just under" $7 million a year.
ImpactIt's a pricey sum for an average, No. 2-caliber receiver, but Miami is loaded with salary cap space and Hartline otherwise would've hit the market as a top-five or six wideout. An announcement of the deal appears to be imminent.
Report: Dolphins near deal w/ Brian Hartline | 03/05/2013 11:40 AM
NewsA source tells FOX Sports that the Dolphins are close to finalizing a contract with free agent WR Brian Hartline.
ImpactThe multi-year deal would reportedly be worth between $6M and $6.5M annually, a high number for a middling No. 2 wideout. It wouldn't prevent the weapon-needy Dolphins from going after free agents Mike Wallace or Greg Jennings next week. Hartline is coming off a career-high 1,083-yard season, but has posted a total of six touchdowns in his four NFL seasons.
'Both sides' optimistic about Hartline deal | 03/04/2013 1:25 PM
NewsThe Miami Herald reports free agent Brian Hartline wants to remain in Miami, and that "both sides" believe a deal can be reached before the start of free agency.
ImpactHowever, Hartline apparently isn't backing off his demand of $6 million per season, a price the Dolphins have thus far been unwilling to meet. The sides sound close enough to work out a deal before next Tuesday, but GM Jeff Ireland has been taking an "our price" approach with his in-house free agents. If he's unwilling to bend, Hartline will be gone.
Hartline would take $18M over 3 seasons? | 02/21/2013 4:40 PM
NewsThe Miami Herald suggests free agent Brian Hartline would be willing to accept a three-year deal averaging $6 million annually, or "maybe less."
ImpactThree years would take Hartline through his age-29 season, allowing him to reenter the free agent market at 30. It'd make sense for the player. $6 million annually is also a reasonable cost for a receiver lacking a high ceiling, but possessing a solid "floor." The Dolphins are more than capable of paying it.
Rosenhaus: No serious talks on Hartline yet | 02/14/2013 10:50 AM
NewsThe player rep for free agent WR Brian Hartline said that contract talks with the Dolphins haven't begun in earnest yet.
Palm Beach Post
ImpactDrew Rosenhaus confirmed that there's a "mutual interest" on both sides, but said a deal isn't really close. That could change next week when the NFL world gathers in Indianapolis for the Scouting Combine. Bringing back Hartline shouldn't stop the Dolphins from going after one of the premier free-agent wideouts available.
Report: Dolphins talking contract w/ Hartline | 02/12/2013 9:49 AM
NewsA source tells the Miami Herald that the Dolphins have had "extensive discussions" with free agent WR Brian Hartline.
Dolphins not making progress with Hartline | 02/10/2013 7:24 PM
NewsAs of last week, the Dolphins were making "no significant progress" in contract talks with free agent Brian Hartline.
Armando Salguero on Twitter
ImpactIt's still early in the re-signing process, but at the same time fair to wonder if Hartline's price tag is out of Miami's target range. It's believed Hartline wants roughly $33 million over five seasons, indicating he's pinpointed Laurent Robinson's five-year, $32.5 million contract as a negotiating baseline.
Hartline seeking Laurent Robinson money? | 02/10/2013 9:41 AM
NewsThe Miami Herald said in December that impending free agent Brian Hartline is likely seeking Laurent Robinson money.
ImpactRobinson signed a five-year, $32.5 million deal with the Jaguars last offseason after he busted out in Dallas as the No. 3 receiver in 2011. That averages out to $6.5 million per year, and it's been said Hartline is seeking upwards of $6 million annually. Beat writer Armando Salguero says he may not get that from the Dolphins, but it wouldn't be out of the question if he hits the open market. Miami wants Hartline back, but at a reasonable price.
Lions could target Hartline in free agency? | 02/03/2013 1:54 PM
NewsDetroitLions.com mentions Brian Hartline as someone who could be a target of the team in free agency.
ImpactHartline seems to be one of the few Dolphins' free agents that the team has actually shown interest in re-signing, so he's not guaranteed to hit the market. But, he would be a nice addition on the outside opposite Calvin Johnson, and would be a massive upgrade on the late-season Kris Durham. Nate Burleson, Ryan Broyles, and Mike Thomas are better suited for the slot, and Titus Young is likely on the outs. Hartline is said to be seeking $6 million annually.
Report: Brian Hartline aiming for $6 million | 01/30/2013 12:42 AM
NewsA "friend" tells the Miami Herald free agent Brian Hartline hopes to earn an annual $6 million with his new contract.
ImpactThe Herald had previously reported Hartline was seeking $5-$6 million. It's not an unreasonable request for a 26-year-old receiver coming off his first 1,000-yard season, but would make Hartline one of the higher paid No. 2/3 receivers in the league. That assumes he either gets away from Miami or the Dolphins sign a true No. 1 wideout. With the Dolphins so thin at receiver, retaining Hartline will likely be a priority.
Brian Hartline expected to seek $5-6M a year | 01/25/2013 2:13 PM
NewsFree agent Brian Hartline is expected to seek a contract paying him $5-6 million annually this offseason.
ImpactJordy Nelson, the receiver to whom Hartline was optimistically compared entering the 2012 season, only makes $3.5 million annually. The Dolphins want to re-sign Hartline for 2013, but it doesn't sound like they'll get a hometown discount. Hartline is coming off career highs in catches (74) and yards (1,083).
Dolphins need explosive playmakers | 01/20/2013 5:11 PM
NewsDolphins owner Stephen Ross told the Miami Herald that he "knows" the Fins must add playmakers on offense this offseason.
Impact"We'll see what's out there," said Ross, whose Dolphins are armed with as much salary cap space as any team in football. "We know we have to become more explosive." The Dolphins would like to have free agent Brian Hartline back, ideally as a No. 2 receiver. Mike Wallace, Dwayne Bowe, and Greg Jennings should all be on Ross' radar as potential No. 1s.
