Keller could still be in play for Patriots | 07/17/2014 12:24 PM
NewsESPN Boston warns not to cross free agent Dustin Keller off the Patriots' list.
ImpactKeller remains unsigned, likely because his health is still a question mark following last August's gruesome knee injury. But the Patriots are desperately thin at tight end, and Keller could fill some of the "move" routes Aaron Hernandez used to run. Jermichael Finley (neck) is another option.
Dustin Keller still an option for Patriots | 05/24/2014 12:58 PM
NewsESPN Boston's Mike Reiss believes the Patriots could be waiting until after June 1 to sign free agent TE Dustin Keller.
ImpactPlayers signed after June 1 do not count towards the compensatory pick formula. Keller's health is in question after he tore three ligaments and dislocated his knee just last August, but he could fill the "move" tight end void on the Patriots' roster if healthy. The if healthy part is a big if. There is also a question of whether the Patriots even need a "move" option as they transition to more of a three-wide, "11" personnel offense. Either way, Keller will be at most a late-round flier in deep two tight end leagues this season.
Patriots could still be option for TE Keller | 05/17/2014 6:40 PM
NewsESPN Boston's Mike Reiss believes the Patriots could still be a landing spot for free agent TE Dustin Keller.
ImpactKeller visited with the Patriots earlier this month, but left without a contract. New England failed to address their need for a move tight end in the draft, so Keller could provide a No. 2 option behind Rob Gronkowski. Michael Hoomanawanui and D.J. Williams are the only other veteran tight ends on the roster.
Dustin Keller leaves Pats visit without deal | 05/01/2014 10:45 AM
NewsFree agent TE Dustin Keller left his Wednesday Patriots visit without a contract.
ImpactA source (Keller's agent?) told the Boston Herald that Keller's "knee is healed." It looks like the Patriots were not convinced. Just eight months removed from tearing three ligaments and dislocating his knee, it's not a surprise. If Keller can eventually prove his health, the Patriots would make for an excellent landing spot as they're desperate for a "move" tight end. The three tight ends currently on their roster are Rob Gronkowski (ACL), Michael Hoomanawanui and D.J. Williams.

NewsA source tells the Boston Herald that free agent TE Dustin Keller's "knee is healed."
ImpactIt would be an amazing feat just eight months after Keller's catastrophic preseason injury, which included tears of his ACL, MCL, and PCL, and dislocation of the knee. Keller visited the Patriots on Wednesday, where he'd be an excellent fit on paper. We still have a hard time believing he's 100 percent.

NewsCSN New England expects the Patriots to show interest in free agent TE Dustin Keller should he remain unsigned after the draft.
CSN New England
ImpactIn all likelihood, Keller won't be finding a job in the next four weeks. His agent recently said Keller will be ready for the season after destroying his knee on a devastating hit from D.J. Swearinger last preseason. Keller turns 30 in September. If he can return to pre-sinjury form, he'd be a nice bargain signing.
Dolphins haven't ruled out re-signing Keller | 03/25/2014 10:28 PM
NewsThe Dolphins haven't ruled out re-signing free agent Dustin Keller.
Impact"He's one of those guys we're evaluating and considering like a lot of other free agents out there," coach Joe Philbin said Tuesday. "We'll see." Rehabbing from the catastrophic knee injury that ended his 2013 in the preseason, Keller has yet to make a visit in free agency. Keller turns 30 in September.

NewsUSA Today's Tom Pelissero has heard free agent TE Dustin Keller (knee) is "on track to return."

ImpactKeller was having a huge camp in 2013 with the Dolphins before tearing his ACL, MCL, and PCL, dislocating his right knee in Miami's third preseason game. There's no telling what Keller has left -- the injury was gruesome and he's entering his age-30 season -- but it's good news for him. NFL teams would probably want to see Keller work out before entertaining signing him.
Dustin Keller not expected back with MIA | 02/06/2014 11:37 AM
NewsESPN Dolphins reporter James Walker considers free agent Dustin Keller re-signing with Miami "unlikely."
ImpactKeller's gruesome August knee injury resulted in a torn ACL, MCL, PCL as well as a dislocation. He had to watch as Charles Clay broke out for a 69/759/6 line, grabbing the 2014 starting role in the process. Keller, who will turn 30 years old in September, will have to prove his health before getting a deal in free agency. The injury was severe enough that his Week 1 status remains in doubt.
Dustin Keller avoids nerve damage in knee | 08/22/2013 3:27 PM
NewsESPN's Adam Schefter reported on NFL Insiders that Dustin Keller avoided nerve damage when he tore his ACL, MCL, and PCL and dislocated his right knee in Miami's third preseason game.
ImpactPer Schefter, Keller's knee "cartilage and nerves are intact," and "doctors believe he will have a chance to resume his NFL career." The catastrophic knee injury may still sap Keller's best assets -- his speed and movement skills. Out for the season, the 29-year-old will hit unrestricted free agency next March.
Dolphins officially send Keller to I.R. | 08/20/2013 10:37 AM
NewsDolphins placed TE Dustin Keller on injured reserve with a torn ACL, MCL, and PCL, and dislocated right knee, ending his season.
ImpactThe Fins will move forward with rookie Dion Sims, H-back Charles Clay, and 2012 third-round bust Michael Egnew at tight end. It's a massive dropoff. For Keller, his NFL future is unclear. This is a catastrophic knee injury, and he's not under contract for 2014. It would be an amazing success story if Keller were ready for Week 1 next season, let alone regained fantasy relevance.
Confirmed: Dustin Keller (knee) done for year | 08/18/2013 11:36 AM
NewsDustin Keller is done for the season after suffering a knee injury in Saturday night's preseason game against the Texans.
Alex Marvez on Twitter
ImpactThe exact nature of Keller's injury is unknown at the moment, but he likely tore at least one of the major ligaments in his knee. It's a tough blow for both Keller and the Dolphins. Keller was legitimately excited for a bounce-back season after hamstring issues ruined his 2012 campaign. Signed to a one-year, $4.25 million deal, Keller had plans to rehab his value and land a multi-year contract next March. Instead, he'll have to again settle for a one-year pact.

Dolphins' Keller carted off with knee injury | 08/17/2013 9:17 PM
NewsDolphins TE Dustin Keller was carted off the field during Saturday night's preseason game with a right knee injury.
ImpactTexans rookie S D.J. Swearinger unloaded on Keller's right knee following a short reception. Keller's knee bent back awkwardly and he was in obvious pain on the ground, cussing before the cart came out. It'll be a shame if Keller's season is over, because he was betting on himself with a one-year contract. Keller had also shown excellent chemistry with Ryan Tannehill in August.
Keller showing chemistry with Tannehill | 08/09/2013 10:16 PM
NewsDustin Keller caught two balls for 46 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins' second preseason game at Jacksonville.
ImpactAt least among fantasy-relevant Dolphins players, Keller is leading the team in preseason receiving with three catches for 50 yards and the score. On Friday night, Keller secured a bullet 22-yard score from Ryan Tannehill. While we're not bullish on Keller's fantasy outlook, he could flirt with back-end TE1 value with a realistic chance to lead the Dolphins in receptions.
Keller says he declined a long-term deal | 05/23/2013 12:39 PM
NewsDustin Keller said he declined a long-term deal from the Dolphins in favor of a one-year contract.
ImpactKeller's one-year pact is worth $4.25M. It's unclear how much the Dolphins were offering annually on a long-term deal, but the ex-Jet apparently didn't like it. "My worth wasn't where I think it was at," he said. "So I took a gamble on myself and said I'm better than everyone thinks I am. This is where I want to be longterm. But I want to prove to them I'm better than last year."
Dolphins sign Dustin Keller to one-year deal | 03/15/2013 11:36 AM
NewsDolphins agreed to terms with TE Dustin Keller, formerly of the Jets, on a one-year contract.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactThe Jets' latest defector will remain in the AFC East. The sides had been near an agreement for 48 hours, but Keller was holding out for a multi-year deal. He didn't get it, and now founds himself a part of a brazenly "all in" squad for 2013. Keller represents a major upgrade for a team that's had trouble getting the tight end position right in recent seasons, but is coming off a down campaign. Thanks to injuries and Mark Sanchez, Keller was limited to 28 catches for 317 yards and two touchdowns in eight games in 2012. A chain mover and a red-zone threat when healthy, Keller should find himself on the TE1 radar with Ryan Tannehill.
Keller to turn to Giants or Bills? | 03/15/2013 2:07 AM
NewsThe Miami Herald's "understanding" is free agent Dustin Keller may turn to the Giants or Bills after talks broke off with the Dolphins.
ImpactThe Dolphins only offered Keller a one-year contract. His agent has also "reached out" to the Broncos. Keller is one-dimensional in that he can stretch the seam, but lacks blocking ability and isn't an ideal mismatch creator at 6-foot-2 and 250 pounds. Rob Gronkowski is 6-foot-6. Jimmy Graham is 6-foot-7.

ImpactAnd why would they in a market where even the top free agents are struggling to breach the $10 million barrier in guaranteed money. Keller is the top remaining tight end, by far, but coming off an injury-plagued campaign where he caught just 28 passes. The longer he holds out, the worse his offers may get.

ImpactThe Dolphins' spending spree isn't over quite yet. They reportedly went hard after Jared Cook before losing him to the Rams and apparently have their sights set on Keller as a backup plan. Despite suffering through some horrific quarterback play in New York, Keller has averaged 3.7 catches for 45.4 yards with 12 touchdowns over his last 40 games. He's capable of more in the right situation.

NewsFree agent Dustin Keller says he would like to return to the Jets, but he hasn't heard from the team about a new deal.
New York Post
Impact"Yeah, I'd like to return," Keller said. "I have a lot of great friends on the team, and I've always thought of myself as a key piece of the offense there, but if I'm not there that's fine, too." Keller has only heard from new OC Marty Mornhinweg. He was once thought of as a candidate for the franchise tag, but that doesn't appear to be an option. Keller should be in high demand. He checks in as our No. 3 free-agent tight end behind Tony Gonzalez and Fred Davis.

ImpactThe Jets are just under the salary cap after cutting a quartet of veterans on Tuesday, so there's not a lot of wiggle room to put a heavy, fully guaranteed salary on the books. Dustin Keller is the only real option, and it would come with about a $6 million price. The two sides have yet to meet, but they plan to do so some time this week.

NewsThe Jets and free agent Dustin Keller have yet to exchange contract proposals.
ESPN New York
ImpactThe sides are meeting at the Combine, but will be starting negotiations from scratch. The Jets would like to retain Keller, but beat writer Rich Cimini believes their tight salary-cap situation will preclude the franchise tag ($5.962 million) as a possibility. If Keller reaches the open market, the Jets are going to have an extremely difficult time being his top bidder.
Dustin Keller, Jets to meet this week | 02/19/2013 12:59 PM
NewsThe Jets are expected to meet with the player rep for free agent TE Dustin Keller this week.
Rich Cimini on Twitter
ImpactTons of informal meetings and negotiating will take place during the Scouting Combine in Indianapolis this week. The Jets want to retain Keller, but they probably can't afford it thanks to their dire salary cap situation. The $5.962 million franchise tender isn't an option and Keller is going to attract serious interest on the open market. He's out No. 3 available tight end, behind only Tony Gonzalez and Fred Davis.
Report: Jets 'hard-pressed' to keep Keller | 01/23/2013 8:52 PM
NewsSources with "knowledge of the situation" tell CBS' Jason La Canfora, the Jets will be "hard-pressed" to re-sign impending free agents Dustin Keller and Shonn Greene.
ImpactThe same is reportedly true of DE Mike DeVito. Former GM Mike Tannenbaum left the Jets in salary cap hell, so the news is hardly surprising. Retaining Keller is likely of far greater concern than Greene, but ESPN New York agrees with La Canfora's sources that he's likely on the way out. It's going to be a lean year for the Jets in 2013. Even though he's coming off an injury-prone and ineffective season, interest in the 28-year-old Keller should be strong on the open market.
Keller on his way out of New York? | 01/05/2013 3:12 PM
NewsESPN New York's Rich Cimini said "someone will get a great bargain" on impending free agent Dustin Keller, but it "probably won't be the Jets."
ESPN New York
ImpactKeller played in just eight games in 2012 as he battled hamstring and ankle injuries, so that's expected to affect his price on the open market this offseason. The Jets "probably" won't get the bargain because they'll likely have to slap the franchise tag on Keller to keep him. Keller said in late December that he is "100 percent" opposed to the franchise tag, too. He'll be highly sought after as a solid red zone option and willing blocker.
