Forte does little in loss to Eagles | 12/23/2013 12:05 AM
NewsMatt Forte rushed nine times for 29 yards in Sunday's Week 16 loss to the Eagles.
ImpactHe added four catches for 25 yards. Forte fell out of the gameplan with the Bears playing from behind and wasn't a factor out of the backfield, finishing with just five targets. He was forced to stay in and pass protect in a game where Jay Cutler was sacked seven times. Forte didn't have any goal-line carries, but was tackled for a safety on a run deep in his own end-zone in the third quarter. He'll need to get back on track in a NFC North showdown with the Packers in Week 17.
Matt Forte racks up another 100-yard game | 12/15/2013 5:13 PM
NewsMatt Forte rushed 24 times for 127 yards and caught one pass for four yards in Sunday's Week 15 win at Cleveland.
Forte totals 175 yards, TD against Cowboys | 12/09/2013 11:55 PM
NewsMatt Forte rushed for 102 yards on 20 carries and caught seven passes for 73 yards and one touchdown in Monday night's Week 14 drubbing of the Cowboys.
ImpactForte found a ton of space against Dallas' league-worst fantasy run defense. He also tied with Alshon Jeffery for the team lead in targets with nine. Forte had a ton of lengthy gains, but his biggest was a 34-yard catch-and-run up the right side on a play where the Cowboys defense seemed completely disinterested in tackling. Forte has now eclipsed 100 yards from scrimmage in seven of his last eight games and remains an elite RB1 play. He's touched the ball at least 21 times in six consecutive games. Forte has a tough matchup against the Browns on the road next week, but he's locked in as a top fantasy back.
Matt Forte active against Vikings | 12/01/2013 11:41 AM
NewsMatt Forte is active for Week 13 against the Vikings.
ImpactChicago's Week 13 inactives are SS Major Wright, QB Jay Cutler, LB Lance Briggs, S Anthony Walters, OL James Brown, OT Jonathan Scott, and DL Cornelius Washington.

Matt Forte back at Bears practice Thursday | 11/28/2013 2:04 PM
NewsMatt Forte (knee) returned to Bears practice Thursday.
Rich Campbell on Twitter
ImpactForte will be listed as "limited," but he's fully on track to start Sunday's game against the Vikings. Forte played through his minor hyperextension against the Rams, and appeared to still be operating at 100 percent effectiveness. He's a top-five play for Week 13.
Bears optimistic on Matt Forte's status | 11/28/2013 8:26 AM
NewsCoach Marc Trestman is fully confident Matt Forte (knee) will play in Sunday's game against the Bears.
ImpactForte slightly hyperextended his right knee against the Rams last week but was able to return to the game. It sounds like he sat out Wednesday's practice as a precaution. "I'm still optimistic that [Forte will play on Sunday]," Trestman said. "I feel pretty good that he'll start getting some work [Thursday]. We'll see where he is at, but I'm going in optimistic."
Forte (knee) sits out Wednesday's practice | 11/27/2013 2:32 PM
NewsMatt Forte (knee) did not practice Wednesday.
Jeff Dickerson on Twitter
ImpactForte "slightly" hyperextended his knee against the Rams last Sunday. He did some rehab work Tuesday and plans to play this week against the Vikings. It's a tasty matchup for Forte, who will be a top-three fantasy running back play for Week 13. His status will be updated again no later than Thursday.
Forte 'slightly' hyperextended knee Sunday | 11/25/2013 2:58 PM
NewsMatt Forte "slightly" hyperextended his right knee in Sunday's loss, and the Bears plan to "see where he is at" on Wednesday.
Jeff Dickerson on Twitter
ImpactForte got rolled up in scary fashion, but returned to the game after getting stretched out on the sideline. He missed only a few plays, and looked no worse for the wear upon returning. Our best guess is that the Bears will ration Forte's practice reps, but that he's in no danger of missing Sunday's game against the Vikings.
Ravens-Bears delayed due to ominous weather | 11/17/2013 1:39 PM
NewsThe Ravens-Bears Week 11 game has been delayed due to lightning in the Chicago area.
ImpactThis is the game that we were all keeping our eyes on weather-wise. The nasty stuff stayed away for kickoff but it reared its head in a hurry. There are tornadoes and dark clouds in the area. The Ravens lead the Bears 10-0 with 4:51 left in the first quarter. The game has been "temporarily suspended" and will not resume any earlier than 2:25 PM ET. So, we're staring at at least a 45-minute delay. This is actually welcome news to Brandon Marshall, Torrey Smith, etc. owners.
Forte rushes for just 33 yards on 17 carries | 11/10/2013 4:48 PM
NewsMatt Forte rushed for just 33 yards on 17 carries in Week 10 against the Lions.
ImpactForte was targeted seven times in the passing game and picked up another 16 yards on four catches. There just wasn't much space to operate against an enticing defensive tackle duo in Nick Fairley and Ndamukong Suh, who were wreaking havoc all afternoon long. Forte also had a nine-yard rushing touchdown taken off the board due to a holding penalty. Forte will have another tough rushing matchup against the Ravens next Sunday.
Forte, McCown lead Bears to MNF win over Pack | 11/04/2013 11:43 PM
NewsMatt Forte rushed for 125 yards and one touchdown on 24 carries in Monday night's Week 9, 27-20 win over the Packers.
ImpactForte tacked on another 54 yards on five receptions. He was targeted eight times out of the backfield and is averaging six targets per game after eight contests. Monday night was Forte's third consecutive game he's totaled over 100 yards. His touchdown came from one yard out on second-and-goal after Michael Bush failed to punch it in from the one on first down. Forte had plenty of bounce to his step in this one and was a major part of an 18-play, nearly nine-minute drive at the end of the fourth quarter that sealed the victory. He picked up a first down on fourth-and-inches before taking a toss left on third-and-five for another first down. After eight games, Forte is on pace for 1,948 total yards and 14 touchdowns. He's locked in as a top-five running back. The Lions are up next.
No vulture: Matt Forte rumbles for three TDs | 10/20/2013 4:53 PM
NewsMatt Forte rushed 16 times for 91 yards with three touchdowns in Sunday's 45-41 Week 7 loss at Washington.
ImpactOne of Forte's touchdowns came on a slick 50-yard jaunt that included an ankle-breaking jump cut and impressive long speed. But owners will be happier to hear about the two he punched in from inside the 6-yard line as Michael Bush watched. There was not even a thought from the Bears staff to head down the "vulture" route. Forte heads into the bye with six rushing touchdowns in seven games.
Forte totals 111 yards in win over Giants | 10/11/2013 12:00 AM
NewsMatt Forte rushed 19 times for 67 yards in Chicago's Week 7 win over the Giants, adding six catches for 44 yards.
ImpactForte caught all six of his targets in the passing game, and has now surpassed 100 yards from scrimmage in four of six contests. He's yet to be held below 90 yards. Forte is averaging 5.5 catches per game, and is just 11 off his 2012 receptions total. The well-rounded back is locked in as a high-end RB1. The Bears get the Redskins' 26th ranked run defense in Week 7. Washington is allowing 4.7 yards per carry.
Forte piles up 95 total yards in Week 5 loss | 10/06/2013 4:50 PM
NewsMatt Forte rushed for 55 yards on 12 carries and caught four passes for 40 yards in Week 5 against the Saints.
ImpactForte didn't have as much running room as his 4.6 YPC would suggest. The Saints were bottling him up early on. Forte was targeted just six times in the passing game. He didn't find the end zone for any touchdowns, but Forte did scamper in untouched on a late two-point conversion. Look for Forte to shred the Giants' wretched defense on Thursday night.
Matt Forte totals 117 yards in loss to Lions | 09/29/2013 4:56 PM
NewsMatt Forte shined in the Bears' Week 4 loss to the Lions, rushing 14 times for 95 yards and a touchdown while adding five catches for an additional 22 yards.
Forte totals 111 yards, touchdown in Week 3 | 09/23/2013 12:35 AM
NewsMatt Forte rushed 16 times for 87 yards and a touchdown in Sunday night's Week 3 win over the Steelers.
ImpactForte scored his lone touchdown on a goal-line carry in first quarter, but was rotated with Michael Bush in red-zone and short-yardage situations. He added four catches for 24 yards and continues to be a factor in the passing game. Forte was able to play through a foot injury after landing awkwardly on a block in the third quarter. He shouldn't be in any jeopardy of missing next week's matchup with the Lions.
Matt Forte making an impact as receiver | 09/17/2013 2:39 PM
NewsMatt Forte's 15 receptions and 17 targets lead all running backs through the season's first two weeks.
ImpactForte's 15 grabs are tied with teammate Brandon Marshall for sixth in the league, and are already 34.1 percent of his 2012 total under "offensive coordinator" Mike Tice. The Bears have followed through and then some on their pledge to get Forte more involved as a receiver, and it has him looking like an every-week RB1 in PPR leagues, and perhaps even standard formats. Forte is currently the No. 6 back in standard-scoring leagues.
Matt Forte handles 23 touches & scores TD | 09/08/2013 5:17 PM
NewsMatt Forte rushed 19 times for 50 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 41 yards in the Bears' Week 1 win over Cincy.
ImpactForte found little room to run against the Bengals' insanely talented front seven, but remained effective in the pass game and scored a touchdown from one-yard out on a shotgun handoff. He was NOT vultured by Michael Bush, which is promising for Forte's going-forward outlook. Expect 20-24 touches in Week 2 against the Vikings. Forte is a top-15 fantasy running back weekly.
Matt Forte having dominant preseason | 08/24/2013 10:34 AM
NewsJay Cutler described Matt Forte's preseason performance as "scary out there" following a dominant exhibition game at Oakland.
ImpactThe Bears are using more zone runs, and Forte is averaging 9.93 yards per carry in the preseason. NFL Network's Daniel Jeremiah has observed Forte looks "quicker" than last year. "Matt's an all-purpose player," said coach Marc Trestman. "He's a three-down player. He can run. He's a very good pass receiver, and it just helps spread the field even more with the players that we have."
Forte averaging 9.9 yards/carry in preseason | 08/24/2013 12:11 AM
NewsMatt Forte rushed six times for 76 yards and caught two passes for 33 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' third preseason game.
ImpactForte is shredding the preseason, and continued to do so Friday night against the sieve-like Raiders "defense." Through three exhibition games, "unsexy" fantasy pick Forte has 15 carries for 149 yards (9.93 YPC), to go with three catches for 38 yards. He's scored two TDs. Forte is a locked-in early second-round pick in standard drafts, and worth first-round consideration in PPR.
Bears giving RB Forte goal-line carries again | 08/16/2013 12:08 PM
NewsMatt Forte handled all three red-zone carries with the Bears' first-team offense in Thursday night's preseason game.
ImpactThe Bears put Forte in the I formation on his touchdown run, and he executed from three yards out. Michael Bush worked strictly with the Josh McCown offense. Forte was stripped of goal-line duties under Lovie Smith, but he's earning them back under rookie coach Marc Trestman. It's a nice plus for Forte's fantasy outlook. He's shaping up as a value pick at his early-second round ADP.
Forte busts long 58-yard run on Thursday | 08/15/2013 9:10 PM
NewsMatt Forte rushed for 74 yards and a touchdown on eight carries in Thursday night's preseason game against the Chargers.
ImpactForte picked up 58 yards on a toss left, but was caught from behind inside the ten-yard line. It set up Brandon Marshall's five-yard score. Forte later received a rare carry from the three-yard line and pounded it in behind rookies RG Kyle Long and RT Jordan Mills for the score. He'll see more action next week.
Bears fired Lovie in part due to Forte usage | 07/28/2013 2:57 PM
NewsAccording to the Chicago Sun Times, the Bears' "underutilization" of Matt Forte was "one of the factors" behind GM Phil Emery's firing of Lovie Smith.
ImpactForte set career lows in the passing game in 2012. Emery hired the right man to correct this flaw in pass-happy coach Marc Trestman. Trestman coached the Raiders' 2001-2002 offenses, when Charlie Garner racked up 72 and 91 receptions, respectively. Trestman's quick-hitting pass game will undoubtedly play to versatile Forte's strengths, especially as a receiver. He's squarely in the hunt as a late first-round to early second-round fantasy pick.
Forte reiterates he expects to catch passes | 07/18/2013 3:49 PM
NewsMatt Forte once again reiterated that he expects to be heavily involved in the passing game.
Impact"In this offense," Forte said, "the running back runs a lot of routes and is able to catch the ball a lot. I'm able to catch the ball; I'm willing to catch it. I expect a lot out of myself." In coach Marc Trestman's previous offenses, his lead back averaged 65 receptions per season. Forte should eclipse his previous career-high of 63 catches from 2008 with ease this season.
Bears GM wants Forte to catch more passes | 07/11/2013 9:08 AM
NewsBears GM Phil Emery admits he was a bit disappointed that Matt Forte wasn't used in the passing game as much last season.
Impact"For whatever reason, whether it was protection or whether it was utilization or whether it was catching, we didn't utilize Matt or he didn't have the opportunity to be fully utilized," Emery said. Forte has made it clear since coach Marc Trestman's hiring that he expects a heavy uptick in receptions out of the backfield, and we've noted it several times. He's a surefire RB1 in PPR.
Matt Forte expecting more catches in 2013 | 05/14/2013 7:39 PM
NewsMatt Forte expects an increase in receptions this season.
ImpactForte averaged just 2.9 grabs per game last season after averaging 3.7 between 2008-11. "Coach (Marc) Trestman, I think he said he watched a lot of film on me and has seen me run different routes," Forte said. "So we'll get back to catching the ball out of the backfield like we did the prior years." Forte also saw his yards per carry slump to 4.4 last season after he averaged 4.7 in 2010-11. Forte has racked up a lot of wear and tear his five years in the league, but should remain a high-end RB2 in a Bears offense that figures to be more wide open this season.
Matt Forte to get a bump in catches this year | 05/09/2013 11:45 AM
NewsMatt Forte is expected to see a bump in receptions this season.
ImpactForte is one of the better natural pass-catching backs in the league, as evidenced by his 3.7 receptions per game in his first four NFL seasons. Last year, however, that number sunk to 2.9 under offensive coordinator Mike Tice. Now that offensive-minded Marc Trestman is in charge and installing a West Coast scheme, we can expect a ton of short high-percentage throws. Forte projects to threaten his career-high of 63 catches, set as a rookie in 2008.
Trestman talks up Forte's pass-game skills | 03/22/2013 12:25 PM
NewsThe Chicago Sun Times is anticipating a "big year" from Matt Forte in new coach Marc Trestman's offense.
Chicago Sun Times
ImpactTrestman, a progressive offensive innovator, loves Forte's pass-catching skills and versatility. "I just got done looking at all his catches from 2010," said Trestman. "He was on the line of scrimmage, he was running out of the backfield [and] he is great in space. He has a skill set that goes full spectrum of what you want out of a running back. ... You can make all the different kinds of throws to him. And he's a willing blocker, which is critically important. He's a want-to, willing blocker."
