|Assets:||An explosive runner who can really pile up yards in spurts. Elusive, with the burst to get a jump out of the backfield. Has the nose to find holes, and a knack for the end zone. Has shown he's capable of stepping in as a starter without showing any rust.|
|Flaws:||Still a bit unpolished as a receiver. Doesn't take advantage of his linemen enough to create plays, and must prove himself as a blocker. Can be inconsistent and injury-prone.|
|Career Potential:||Slightly above-average tailback with starter tools.|

Chargers running back Donald Brown did very little against Jacksonville. | 09/29/2014 9:48 AM
NewsChargers running back Donald Brown did very little against Jacksonville.
ImpactBrown rushed 10 times for 19 yards and caught four of six targets for 35 yards. We're just going to chalk this up to the Chargers ripping apart the Jaguars through the air and not using their ground game.
Chargers running back Donald Brown saw a big jump in workload against Buffalo after Danny Woodhead was injured in the first quarter. | 09/21/2014 4:39 PM
NewsChargers running back Donald Brown saw a big jump in workload against Buffalo after Danny Woodhead was injured in the first quarter.
ImpactBrown rushed 31 times for 62 yards and caught five of six targets for 27 yards. It wasn't very productive given 36 touches, but that will come if Woodhead is sidelined for any length of time.
Chargers running back Donald Brown should take a big jump in production while Ryan Mathews is sidelined by a knee injury. | 09/16/2014 2:26 PM
NewsChargers running back Donald Brown should take a big jump in production while Ryan Mathews is sidelined by a knee injury.
ImpactHe'll still be sharing time with Danny Woodhead, but should get the larger share of the rushing attempts while Woodhead is the pass receiver.
Donald Brown to get 5-10 touches per game? | 04/02/2014 9:45 AM
NewsThe Union-Tribune San Diego projects 5-10 touches per game for Donald Brown this season.
Union-Tribune San Diego
ImpactAs long as starter and designated "bell cow" Ryan Mathews stays healthy, Brown's role will be relatively minor. Of course, Mathews has missed 10 games through four NFL seasons, has hobbled through countless others and is entering the final year of his contract. The Chargers also project to execute one of the league's more run-heavy schemes. So Brown, who got a $10.5 million contract with $4 million guaranteed, will be well worth owning as a handcuff in fantasy circles.
Bolts sign Donald Brown for 3 years, $10.5M | 03/11/2014 11:26 PM
NewsChargers agreed to terms with RB Donald Brown, formerly of the Colts, on a three-year, $10.5 million contract.
Ian Rapoport on Twitter
ImpactThe deal includes $4 million guaranteed. With the Chargers already having Danny Woodhead and Ryan Mathews, this one is a definite head scratcher. Mathews is coming off a breakout year, while Woodhead is due just $1.75 million after another strong season. It's worth noting that Bolts GM Tom Telesco is the Colts' former VP of football operations. He clearly has a soft spot for "Dammit Donald," who seemed like a lost cause until picking up the pieces for Trent Richardson last season. He'll likely serve as a deluxe Ronnie Brown, catching passes and picking up blitzes, though he's never been a terribly effective pass protector.
Titans could pursue free agent running backs | 03/08/2014 2:28 PM
NewsThe Nashville Tennessean's Jim Wyatt "wouldn't be surprised" if the Titans "poked around" free agents Donald Brown and Ben Tate.
Jim Wyatt on Twitter
ImpactBoth Tate and Brown have spent the past four years in the Titans' division. Brown shredded Tennessee in two games with the Colts last season, and would be a more logical committee partner for Shonn Greene. Tate would figure to become the Titans' clear feature back. He has far more talent than Greene.
Colts to make an effort to bring back Brown? | 01/14/2014 10:44 AM
NewsThe Colts are expected to make impending free agent Donald Brown a "reasonable offer."
ImpactThe light finally flipped on for "Dammit Donald" in his fifth NFL season as he rushed 102 times for 537 yards (5.26 YPC) with six touchdowns. The Colts can't afford to overpay him though, as they've already given up the No. 26 overall pick in the draft for Trent Richardson. Vick Ballard (torn ACL) is also expected to return healthy. Brown is our No. 8 unrestricted free agent running back available.
Donald Brown rushes for 63 yards in victory | 01/12/2014 12:16 AM
NewsDonald Brown rushed 17 times for 63 yards in Indianapolis' Divisional Round loss to the Patriots.
ImpactHe added one catch for three yards. Brown out-touched Trent Richardson 18-3, and 33-4 for the postseason. An impending free agent, Brown hits the open market on the back of his best campaign as a pro. Both his 5.3 yards per carry and six rushing touchdowns were new career highs, as was his 27/214/2 line as a receiver. Brown is never going to live up to his first-round pedigree, but has morphed from "Dammit Donald" to a solid pro. He's Rotoworld's No. 8 free-agent back. The Colts are all but certain to handcuff T-Rich with a veteran free agent who could be thrust into a starting role, and there's a strong chance they stick with Brown.
Donald Brown scores twice as Colts come back | 01/04/2014 8:31 PM
NewsDonald Brown rushed 11 times for 55 yards and a touchdown in Indy's Wild Card win over the Chiefs, adding four catches for 47 yards and an additional touchdown.
Donald Brown gets 15 touches in Week 17 | 12/29/2013 5:24 PM
NewsDonald Brown rushed 12 times for 31 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for four yards in the Colts' Week 17 win over the Jaguars.
ImpactBrown opened Sunday's scoring with a one-yard goal-line leap over the top to give Indy an early 7-0 lead. They wouldn't trail from then on. Brown finishes the best regular season of his career with a 102-557-6 line as a rusher and 27 receptions, two of which went for scores. He'll remain the more dynamic half of a timeshare with Trent Richardson during January's playoffs.
Donald Brown absent from injury report | 12/26/2013 4:11 PM
NewsDonald Brown (stinger) is absent from the Colts' Week 17 injury report.
ImpactComing off one of his better games of the season, Brown will be in for 10-15 touches in the Colts' Week 17 playoff tune up against the Jaguars.
Donald Brown practicing again for Colts | 12/19/2013 12:32 PM
NewsDonald Brown (stinger) is practicing again Thursday.

ImpactBrown has been fully cleared and is ready to rock. Unfortunately, he'll has a tough spot at Kansas City and will be sharing reps with Trent Richardson. Fantasy owners in Super Bowls should be reaching higher.
Donald Brown shakes off stinger, good to go | 12/18/2013 12:24 PM
NewsDonald Brown (stinger) is practicing Wednesday.
Phillip Wilson on Twitter
ImpactSo much for owners dusting the cobwebs off Trent Richardson in fantasy's Super Bowl week. Brown's stinger turned out to be a mere scare and it looks like he's been cleared to suit up against the Chiefs Sunday. He'll form a value-crushing committee with T-Rich while newly signed Shaun Draughn sticks to special teams.
Donald Brown (stinger) listed as day to day | 12/16/2013 4:15 PM
NewsThe Colts consider Donald Brown (stinger) day to day.
Mike Chappell on Twitter
ImpactWe're assuming the "stinger" is to Brown's neck, though there's been no official word. It's a day-to-day injury, but as Cowboys ILB Sean Lee has proven, it can be an extremely tricky one. Brown should be considered no better than 50-50 for Week 16. Trent Richardson turned in a predictably middling performance in Brown's absence against the Texans, and wouldn't be more than a mid-range FLEX option for the fantasy finals if Brown can't go.
Donald Brown doesn't return to victory | 12/15/2013 5:14 PM
NewsDonald Brown never returned to Indianapolis' Week 15 win over the Texans after departing in the first quarter with a "stinger."
Colts' Donald Brown sidelined with stinger | 12/15/2013 2:11 PM
NewsDonald Brown was forced from Indianapolis' Week 15 game against the Texans with a stinger, and is questionable to return.
Donald Brown totals 29 yards on eight touches | 12/08/2013 6:34 PM
NewsDonald Brown rushed for 11 yards on four carries in Week 14 versus the Bengals.
Donald Brown 'earned' chance to start | 12/02/2013 11:24 AM
NewsCoach Chuck Pagano said he started Donald Brown Sunday because Brown he "earned the opportunity."
ImpactBrown has been badly outplaying Trent Richardson ever since the trade with Cleveland. The situation came to a head against the Titans as Brown played 52 snaps and Richardson saw just 13. "We're always trying to just make decisions based on what's best for the team and what gives us the best chance to win," Pagano said. Brown will be the feature back against the Bengals in Week 14, leaving T-Rich as a change-of-pace option.
Donald Brown loses yards in Week 12 loss | 11/24/2013 7:46 PM
NewsDonald Brown rushed for one yards on two carries and caught one pass for a two-yard loss in Week 12 against the Cardinals.
ImpactThe Colts were getting blown out early, so you'd think Brown would have been a bigger part of the offense with the Colts throwing the ball a ton. That wasn't the case. Trent Richardson was the guy in the backfield. He didn't have any success once again, totaling 26 yards on nine touches. Brown and the Colts get the Titans at home next week. Brown rushed for 80 yards and two touchdowns against them in Week 11. He's the preferred flex play in the Indy backfield.
Colts not expected to start Donald Brown | 11/16/2013 12:41 PM
NewsThe Indianapolis Star does not anticipate the Colts promoting Donald Brown into the starting lineup over Trent Richardson.
ImpactCoach Chuck Pagano indicated the Colts will "ride the hot hand," and Brown has had it for most of the year in Indy. The Colts are still expected to "continue to divide carries" between disappointing in-season acquisition Richardson and normal change-of-pace back Brown. If "a guy gets hot, you can always go with the hot hand," Pagano said. "But I like the way we're doing things now."
Donald Brown totals 94 yards, 2 TDs in win | 11/14/2013 11:56 PM
NewsDonald Brown rushed 14 times for 80 yards and two touchdowns in Indianapolis' Week 11 win over the Titans, adding one catch for 14 yards.
ImpactAs has become custom, Brown out-gained Trent Richardson 94-53, and out-touched him 8-2 in the fourth quarter. Brown was on the field for all the Colts' biggest plays, and averaged 5.7 yards per carry to T-Rich's 2.8. Brown had some very impressive runs, finding the hole quickly and getting up field in a hurry. Basically, the opposite of what Richardson has been doing. Having now out-gained T-Rich in two straight games, and three of the past four, Brown will be the Colts' running back to FLEX in Week 12 against the Cardinals' sturdy run defense.
Donald Brown rushes for 49 yards on SNF | 11/04/2013 12:23 AM
NewsDonald Brown rushed six times for 49 yards in Sunday night's Week 9 win over the Texans.
ImpactBrown played behind Trent Richardson in a change-of-pace role and continues to be the more effective back. He was limited to just six carries with the Colts playing from behind in the second half and didn't factor into the passing game. Brown should continue to cut into Richardson's workload going forward and is the preferred passing down option. He's still nothing more than a RB4 in re-draft leagues.
Donald Brown totals 64 yards in win | 10/21/2013 1:28 AM
NewsDonald Brown had 11 carries for 23 yards in Sunday night's Week 7 win over the Broncos.
ImpactHe added three catches for 42 yards. Brown had by far his biggest workload of the season, but failed to do anything with his carries. He was used in a committee with Trent Richardson in the second half and remains the Colts preferred passing-down back. Brown has limited fantasy value, but isn't worth owning as a handcuff to Richardson.
Donald Brown rushed for 15 yards on MNF | 10/15/2013 1:02 AM
NewsDonald Brown rushed for 15 yards on three carries in Week 6 against the Chargers.
ImpactBrown reeled in both of his passing-game targets for 19 yards. He's nothing more than a change-of-pace back. Brown is off the fantasy radar.
Colts claim Donald Brown will have big role | 10/03/2013 12:22 PM
NewsOC Pep Hamilton said Donald Brown has been "spectacular" and will continue to play a "major role" in the offense.
Kevin Bowen on Twitter
ImpactAhmad Bradshaw (neck) didn't play in last week's blowout of the Jaguars. Brown still only got five touches on 13 snaps. So even though he's playing well and Bradshaw could be done for the season, there's no standalone value here. Consider Brown a weak handcuff to feature back Trent Richardson.
Donald Brown totals 76 yards in Week 4 | 09/29/2013 6:30 PM
NewsColts RB Donald Brown rushed three times for 65 yards and caught two passes for 11 yards in Indy's Week 4 win at Jacksonville.
ImpactHe broke off a 50-yard run to set up Trent Richardson's goal-line plunge. Brown is serving as a change-of-pace back until Ahmad Bradshaw (neck) returns. The Colts host the Seahawks in Week 5.
Donald Brown will be Bradshaw's backup | 09/14/2013 12:11 AM
NewsDonald Brown will be the Colts No. 2 back in Sunday's game against the Dolphins.
Donald Brown continues productive August | 08/24/2013 11:44 PM
NewsDonald Brown rushed five times for 35 yards in the Colts' third preseason game Saturday night.
ImpactHe also dropped a screen pass. Brown has quietly outplayed Vick Ballard in August, rushing 14 times for 66 yards (4.71 YPC), to go with four catches for 39 yards. With Ahmad Bradshaw (feet) due back soon, Brown looks to have wrapped up Indy's No. 3 tailback job and could begin pushing Ballard to be No. 2.
Brown or Carter could be cut in Indianpolis | 06/07/2013 12:00 PM
NewsThe Indianapolis Star expects either Donald Brown or Delone Carter to be released if the Colts sign free agent Ahmad Bradshaw.
ImpactNot necessarily right away, but before Week 1. Both players have been major disappointments in Indianapolis, but Brown more so as a former first-round pick. The owner of a career 4.1 yards per carry through 449 totes, Brown is going into the final year of his rookie contract.
