|Assets:||Patient, instinctive runner. Reads blocks and sees cutback lanes very well for a young player. Has tremendous burst when he hits the hole. Runs with good leg drive and will break arm tackles. Solid kick returner as well.|
|Flaws:||Small and a little frail. Not built for a heavy workload. Lacks some skills as a blocker and receiver. Needs to bulk up a little to be a featured back. Can be inconsistent at times.|

Former Cowboys and Steelers running back Felix Jones is not on any rosters at the moment, but still wants to play football, he told Tulsa World. | 07/01/2014 10:49 AM
NewsFormer Cowboys and Steelers running back Felix Jones is not on any rosters at the moment, but still wants to play football, he told Tulsa World.
ImpactJones isn't likely to catch on until some injuries pile up and even then we still wouldn't expect him to be fantasy worthy.
Free agent Felix Jones hopes to play in 2014 | 07/01/2014 9:40 AM
NewsFree agent RB Felix Jones believes he still has "some gas in my motor," and hopes to play this season.
Impact"I know something is going to happen, I have a gut feeling," Jones said. Fragile Felix turned 27 in May and rushed for 184 yards on 48 carries (3.8 YPC) across a full 16-game schedule for the Steelers last season. Experienced in blitz pickup, Jones should be able to generate some looks once injuries pile up.
Felix Jones finishes 2013 with 247 total yds | 12/29/2013 6:20 PM
NewsFelix Jones rushed twice for 11 yards in Pittsburgh's Week 17 win over the Browns.
ImpactJones finishes 2013 with 48 rushes for 184 yards (3.8 YPC). He added nine catches for 63 yards. Never known for his durability, Fragile Felix made appearances in all 16 games. An impending free agent going on 27 years of age, Jones should be able to latch on somewhere in 2014.
Felix Jones handles 3 touches in Week 8 | 10/27/2013 7:54 PM
NewsFelix Jones lost a yard on his lone Week 8 carry, but caught two passes for 20 yards as the Steelers fell to the Raiders.
ImpactJones is Le'Veon Bell's primary change-of-pace back, but would form a timeshare with Jonathan Dwyer if Bell went down. It leaves him without much value as a speculative handcuff or stash. Jones isn't worth owning in 12-team leagues.
Felix Jones gets five carries in win | 10/20/2013 7:27 PM
NewsFelix Jones rushed five times for 16 yards and caught one pass for three yards in Sunday's Week 7 win over the Ravens.
ImpactJones has solidified the change-of-pace role behind Le'Veon Bell, but that doesn't make him a handcuff. If Bell were to get hurt, Jones would be a committee back with Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman.
Felix Jones handles 5 touches in Week 6 | 10/13/2013 5:07 PM
NewsFelix Jones rushed five times for 18 yards and caught a 15-yard pass in the Steelers' Week 6 win over the Jets.
ImpactHe's being utilized as a change-of-pace back behind Le'Veon Bell, which is a role in which Jones can (somewhat) excel. He's not an NFL lead runner. Jones' 15-yard catch came on a trickeration play, catching the ball from southpaw receiver Antonio Brown. Jones is only worth rostering in deep leagues.
Felix Jones benched after second half fumble | 09/23/2013 12:48 AM
NewsFelix Jones had seven carries for 34 yards in Sunday night's Week 3 loss to the Bears.
ImpactJones started and received the majority of carries in the first half, but was benched after a costly third quarter fumble and did not return. He added two catches for 13 yards and averaged a solid 4.9 yards-per-carry. Even if Jones starts next week, he'll continue to split carries with Jonathan Dwyer and Isaac Redman. Le'Veon Bell has resumed practicing and will immediately regain his starting job when healthy.
Felix Jones draws praise from coach Tomlin | 09/18/2013 8:29 AM
NewsCoach Mike Tomlin singled out Felix Jones for praise when discussing his team's scuffling offense.
ImpactJones started Monday night's loss, rushing 10 times for 37 yards. "The running game was below the line," Tomlin said. "But I was encouraged by Felix Jones and what he'll be able to do moving forward. He knew when to bounce it and when to put his foot in the ground and get vertical." Isaac Redman -- who missed the beginning of the game after sustaining a head injury on the opening kickoff -- got just three carries and Jonathan Dwyer got one. It sounds like Tomlin is preparing to start Jones again in this week's game against the Bears. He'll be an extremely poor fantasy option.
Felix Jones gets start, handles much of load | 09/17/2013 12:31 AM
NewsFelix Jones got the start in Monday night's Week 2 loss to the Bengals and rushed for just 37 yards on ten carries.
ImpactIsaac Redman was ticketed for the start, but he was injured on the opening kickoff and didn't return to action until the second quarter. Jones still saw plenty of action after Redman's return. Unofficially, we had Jones playing 38 snaps, Redman 18, and Jonathan Dwyer played two. Jones played on most passing downs. He's far off the fantasy radar. It's anyone's guess who will lead the backfield in touches next week against the Bears, but avoid them all.
Tomlin: Felix doesn't know the offense yet | 09/10/2013 7:48 PM
NewsCoach Mike Tomlin says Felix Jones was held without a touch in Sunday's loss because he still isn't familiar enough with the Steelers offense.
ImpactJones played just seven snaps, but still managed to botch a blitz pick up. With Jonathan Dwyer back in the fold behind Isaac Redman, Jones could easily go touch-less again in Week 2.
Felix Jones barely plays in ugly loss | 09/08/2013 4:17 PM
NewsFelix Jones did not record a carry or catch in Sunday's Week 1 loss to the Titans.
ImpactJones got one snap in the first half and blew a blitz pickup. He was subsequently benched. Felix didn't return to the game until Isaac Redman got himself benched for fumbling and LaRod Stephens-Howling left with a knee injury. Jones' NFL career is on thin ice with Le'Veon Bell (foot) nearing a return.
Isaac Redman getting 1st-team RB reps | 09/03/2013 1:12 AM
NewsIsaac Redman confirmed he -- and not Felix Jones -- is practicing as the Steelers' first-team tailback this week.
ImpactA previous report indicated Jones would get the start, but he'd be lucky to see eight carries against the Titans. "I go out there with the first team, do the first four reps, that's normally what the starter does," said Redman following Monday's practice. "I'm just preparing as I'm the starter until they tell me otherwise." Redman hopes to receive "20, 25 carries" in Week 1, although that still seems like a pretty big long shot.
Felix Jones to get a start Week 1? | 09/02/2013 8:34 AM
NewsThe Pittsburgh Tribune-Review says Felix Jones is expected to start Sunday's opener against the Titans.
Felix Jones manages 29 yards vs. Chiefs | 08/25/2013 12:16 AM
NewsSteelers RB Felix Jones rushed eight times for 29 yards in Saturday's third preseason game against the Chiefs.
ImpactJones was held without a catch, but contributed 51 yards on two kick returns. Jones showed more giddy up than his unceremonious trade from the Eagles would suggest, but never took the rock farther than seven yards. He didn't touch the ball until near the end of the first half as Jon Dwyer operated as the Steelers' clear-cut No. 1 back. Jones has made a case to be a part of the Steelers' running-back committee until Le'Veon Bell (foot) returns, but he's miles from fantasy relevance.

Paper doesn't expect Fragile Felix to make 53 | 08/15/2013 1:10 PM
NewsThe Philadelphia Inquirer doesn't project Felix Jones to make the Eagles' 53-man roster.
Philadelphia Inquirer & Daily News
ImpactThe Inquirer goes as far to say that Jones' "career might be over." The former first-round pick just turned 26 years old in May, but his explosion has been sapped. He's no higher than No. 4 on the depth chart, and the Eagles may keep just three backs. Jones rushed for 31 yards on eight carries in the preseason opener.
Felix Jones having quiet training camp | 08/04/2013 5:44 PM
NewsFelix Jones "hasn't done anything to stand out" at Eagles training camp.
ImpactJones is only 26 years old, but it's fair to wonder if the former Cowboys first-rounder's explosiveness has been lost for good. He's getting outplayed in Eagles camp by Chris Polk, and currently appears to be the No. 4 running back.
Eagles take a one-year flier on Felix Jones | 05/14/2013 8:07 AM
NewsEagles signed Felix Jones.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactUnder new coach Chip Kelly, the Eagles are going to run, run it again and run it some more. So even though "Fragile Felix" faceplanted after DeMarco Murray got hurt last year, taking a flier on a back that holds a career yards-per-carry average of 4.79 makes some sense. Jones figures to battle with Chris Polk and UDFA Miguel Maysonet for No. 3 duties behind LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown. He can also help in the return game. It's somewhat reminiscent of the Eagles' 2011 free-agent signing of a declining Ronnie Brown. Brown ended up with just 42 carries on the season and then moved on.
Felix Jones visiting Patriots on Wednesday | 05/08/2013 6:39 PM
NewsFree agent Felix Jones is visiting the Patriots on Wednesday.
Ian Rapoport on Twitter
ImpactThe Fragile Felix world tour is in full effect, but it's impossible to see him as a fit for a team that's already five deep at running back. Jones visited the Eagles on Tuesday. He's finally working toward finding a new home, but it's unlikely to be either Philadelphia or New England.
Eagles host Felix Jones for Tuesday visit | 05/07/2013 4:00 PM
NewsFree agent Felix Jones worked out for the Eagles on Tuesday.
Adam Schefter on Twitter
ImpactIt's probably just due diligence, as the Eagles are expected to let UDFA Miguel Maysonet and Chris Polk battle for No. 3 duties behind LeSean McCoy and Bryce Brown. It's Fragile Felix's second visit of free agency after he left Cincinnati without a deal in early April. Jones' injury history and recent dip in production is a toxic mix for a running back.
50-50 chance Felix ends up in Cincy | 04/10/2013 2:29 PM
NewsThe Cincinnati Enquirer puts the Bengals' chances of signing free agent Felix Jones at 50-50.
Joe Reedy on Twitter
ImpactJones is coming off a career-low 3.6 yards per carry, and another season plagued by nagging injuries. He wouldn't be anything more than a rotational player. The Enquirer is confident the Bengals would still target a running back in the draft even if they sign "Fragile Felix".
Bengals give Felix Jones a tryout | 04/08/2013 5:01 PM
NewsThe Bengals recently gave free agent Felix Jones a tryout.
Bryan Broaddus on Twitter
ImpactIt's unclear when the workout took place. The Bengals need speed in their backfield and are also tentatively expected to consider North Carolina's Giovani Bernard in the second round. Jones, 26 in May, could be a fallback option for Cincinnati should Bernard be drafted early than the Bengals anticipate.
Jerry Jones not giving up Felix Jones dream | 03/19/2013 8:27 PM
NewsCowboys owner Jerry Jones says he's open to re-signing free agent Felix Jones.
Calvin Watkins on Twitter
ImpactCue the laugh track. If Jerry is truly open to keeping one of his former draft crushes, he's going to face stiff resistance from his football people. Felix flopped yet again in 2012, and hasn't drawn a whiff of interest in free agency.

Could Jets be interested in Fragile Felix? | 03/07/2013 8:31 PM
NewsESPN New York thinks the Jets could be interested in free agent Felix Jones.
ESPN New York
ImpactGet excited, Jets fans. Jones has a history with Gang Green's quarterbacks coach, David Lee, when Lee was Jones' offensive coordinator at Arkansas. He would also come rather cheaply after battling injuries throughout his entire career while also posting a career-low of 3.6 YPC in 2012.
Felix Jones unlikely to return to Cowboys | 02/20/2013 10:09 PM
NewsExecutive VP Stephen Jones says it's a "real possibility" the Cowboys will draft a running back to replace free agent Felix Jones.
Dallas Morning News
ImpactJones said he "wouldn't shut the door" on Jones returning, but made it be known that it's unlikely. "In this league, you have to have more than one back," Jones said. "I think we need a back. I like [Lance] Dunbar and I like [Phillip] Tanner but I think they're more third backs than second backs." RBs coach Gary Brown says the team could be looking for more of a "jitterbug type guy."
Felix Jones didn't need any surgery | 02/13/2013 10:05 AM
NewsFree agent Felix Jones will not undergo any offseason surgeries.
ImpactAlthough "fragile Felix" played in all 16 games last season, he battled two sore knees and a shoulder issue. It appeared to limited his burst as he could only muster a career-worst 3.62 yards per carry. The Cowboys are tentatively expected to move on with Lance Dunbar and Phillip Tanner projecting as DeMarco Murray's backups. Jones is our No. 8 running back available on the free-agent market.
Cowboys looking to upgrade No. 2 RB spot | 02/08/2013 12:25 PM
NewsDallasCowboys.com reiterated that the team is not expected to re-sign impending free agent RB Felix Jones.
ImpactJones didn't have a role on the team last year when DeMarco Murray was healthy, and "Fragile Felix" once again battled knee issues all season long despite "playing" in all 16 games. Beat writer Nick Eatman expects the Cowboys to address the position in the middle rounds of the draft or through free agency if a "reasonably priced" back makes sense. Mike Gillislee, Stepfan Taylor, and Le'Veon Bell are just a few mid-round options.
Cowboys' website: Felix likely moving on | 01/08/2013 10:08 PM
NewsDallasCowboys.com does not expect the Cowboys to re-sign impending free agent Felix Jones.
ImpactJerry Jones' team-approved website believes it's time for the sides to "move on." Jones appeared in all 16 games for just the second time in his five-year career this season, but was still constantly nicked. He averaged a career-worst 3.5 yards per carry, and caught his fewest passes (25) since 2009. "Fragile Felix" hasn't topped 4.5 yards per tote in any of his past three campaigns. That's not good for a player who's supposed to be a dynamic change-of-pace back.
Felix Jones likely done with Cowboys | 01/02/2013 12:29 PM
NewsESPN Dallas reiterated that impending free agent Felix Jones "won't return" in 2013.
ImpactAfter five uneven years in Dallas marred by consistent nagging injuries and unmet expectations, Jones is expected to move on. The 2008 first-round pick will attract interest on the open market as a change-of-pace back, not a starter. Lance Dunbar and Phillip Tanner are in-house candidates to back up DeMarco Murray in 2013.
