|Assets:||Prolific and smooth as a scorer. Has a unique knack for creating his own shot anywhere in the offensive zone, with great instincts, skill, and use of angles. Employs great quickness and a nice, fast release. Has the size of a power forward and the skills of a guard. Rebounds well and is a solid passer.|
|Flaws:||Takes a huge volume of shots but rarely posts a top-tier field-goal shooting percentage over a season. Durability is not a strength. Defensive intensity is sometimes an issue, and while a good athlete he's not particularly explosive or fast.|

Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony will once again be a fantasy monster. | 10/24/2014 6:16 PM
NewsKnicks forward Carmelo Anthony will once again be a fantasy monster.
ImpactIn Phil Jackson's triangle offense, Anthony might shoot less, but ideally, that just means a higher field goal percentage and more assists. Anthony should remain in the scoring-title race while also being a more balanced fantasy player.

Carmelo Anthony's five-year deal worth $124M | 07/15/2014 8:11 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony's contract with the Knicks is worth $124 million over five years, with an early termination option for the fifth year.
Ian Begley on Twitter
ImpactMelo accepted $5 million less than the max, and his deal is expected to start at $22.5 million with increases in each subsequent season. If he does ultimately opt out following the 2017-18 season, he'll be seeking a new deal as a 34-year-old free agent. The Knicks' roster doesn't look great for this season, but they'll have tons of cap space to rebuild the team next summer.
Carmelo Anthony gave the Knicks a discount | 07/14/2014 2:42 PM
NewsPhil Jackson confirmed that Carmelo Anthony gave the Knicks a bit of a discount, which will allow them to have more cap space in 2015.
New York Post
ImpactThe deal is reportedly in the $122-$123 million range over five years, and it's believed that Melo didn't take the 7.5 percent raise in Year 2 of the deal, which will give the Knicks an additional $2 million in cap space in 2015. "He did exactly what we kind of asked him to do,'' Jackson said. "Give us a break in the early part of the contract when we have some wiggle room - hopefully big enough wiggle room - next year when we can exploit it.''

ImpactFollowing LeBron James' lead, Carmelo made his announcement with an open letter to the Knicks fan base: "At this pivotal juncture in my career, I owed it to myself and my family to explore all of the options available to me. Through it all, my heart never wavered. During this journey I met with some quality organizations who have amazing talent and leadership. I thank them for their consideration, belief in my talent, and opportunity to imagine the possibilities. I will always remember this chapter in my life. In the end, I am a New York Knick at heart. I am looking forward to continue my career in Orange & Blue and to work with Phil Jackson, a champion who builds championship teams. Madison Square Garden is the mecca of basketball and I am surrounded by the greatest fans in the world."
Carmelo Anthony to sign 5-year deal w/ Knicks | 07/12/2014 1:05 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony will soon accept a five-year, $129 million contract from the Knicks, according to Adrian Wojnarowski.
Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter
ImpactFrank Isola reported that Melo would stay in New York earlier in the week, and once Pau Gasol signed with Chicago it was a near certainty. Melo and the Knicks may struggle during the 2014-15 season but they're poised to be major players in free agency next summer. From a fantasy perspective, Anthony is in a perfect situation as the lead gunner on a team in need of reliable scoring, and he should benefit from the Knicks' acquisition of Jose Calderon for Raymond Felton.

NewsWith the Bulls nearing a deal with Pau Gasol, free agent Carmelo Anthony will likely return to the Knicks according to multiple reporters.

Report: Lakers out for Carmelo Anthony | 07/11/2014 2:12 PM
NewsThe Lakers are reportedly no longer an option for Carmelo Anthony, and he is now deciding between Chicago and New York.
Chris Palmer on Twitter
ImpactSo it seems the decision will come down to winning-now, vs. playing for his home team. The Knicks can offer Melo the most money, and reports seems to have Anthony leaning in that direction, but nothing is official until Anthony makes a statement. Stay tuned.

Marc J. Spears on Twitter
ImpactLeBron James returning to Cleveland will dominate the headlines and Melo may not want to become an afterthought, though it's conceivable that he's still making up his mind. Knicks president Phil Jackson has expected a decision from Melo for the past few days and with luck we'll hear from him before the end of the weekend.
Carmelo Anthony received five offers from NYK | 07/10/2014 5:47 PM
NewsPhil Jackson is confident that Carmelo Anthony will accept one of the five different contract offers presented to him by the Knicks.
Impact"We have maybe five different options," Jackson said. "There's a lot of different options." One of the offers is the 5-year, $129 million max, but Jackson believes that Melo will accept a more cap-friendly deal. Although Jackson remains confident, he did admit that he expected a decision from Anthony days ago. "I expected [an answer] yesterday and the day before yesterday. But, no, we're waiting."

NewsCarmelo Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks "barring a last minute change of heart," according to the NY Daily News.
NY Daily News
ImpactThe report adds Anthony had been "agonizing over this" for the past week. "He will have something for everybody on Thursday," an anonymous friend of Anthony said. "He is really torn because this is the biggest decision of his career. But he wants to get it done in New York. He told me he believes in Phil." The Knicks are likely going to have a tough time winning a title this season because of the contracts of Amare Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani, but things will get better next year. Hopefully this news becomes official and more free agents can agree on deals. Additionally, Yahoo! reported just minutes following this news that Anthony circle believes it's always possible to ask for a trade later.
Carmelo Anthony hoping Bosh goes to Rockets? | 07/08/2014 10:53 AM
NewsThere is a growing sentiment around the NBA that Carmelo Anthony is hoping that Chris Bosh will sign with the Rockets so that he can join LeBon James in Miami, according to Marc Stein of ESPN.
Marc Stein on ESPN
ImpactStein reported that five teams he talked to expressed the same thought as Carmelo's free agency decision drags on. This situation has turned into a bit of a high-stakes game of chicken to see which free agent will blink first and sign with Houston as the Rockets have reportedly offered max contracts to both Bosh and Anthony. The Bulls, Lakers, and Knicks are also in the running for Anthony's services while LeBron could thrown a huge wrench into the entire situation by signing with his hometown Cavaliers. This situation is getting cloudier by the day, but we should have some clarity soon after one of the proverbial dominoes fall.
Report: Carmelo Anthony torn on decision | 07/07/2014 4:37 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony is reportedly torn between the offers from the Knicks, Lakers, and Bulls.
ImpactThe Bulls would be the best team for Carmelo to join if he's a seeking a win-now situation, however he'd need to take a significant pay cut. The Lakers can offer Carmelo a max deal of four-years, and $96 million, while putting him in the spotlight of a major market, but they're far away from being a championship contender. While the Knicks can offer Carmelo the most amount of money, and when Amare Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani come off the books next season New York will have plenty of money to bring in a big-name free agent.
Knicks still confident in re-signing Melo | 07/07/2014 9:48 AM
NewsThe Knicks "remain confident" in their chances of re-signing unrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony.
ImpactThe Lakers have moved into "serious contention" and Melo reportedly was at a pickup game at UCLA with Kobe Bryant, but that report is unconfirmed. Anthony has not informed teams who is ruled out of the running, so the Rockets, Lakers, Bulls, Mavericks and Knicks still have a chance. He is expected to make a decision in the next few days.
Carmelo Anthony not expected to take long | 07/07/2014 9:21 AM
NewsUnrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony's decision isn't expected to linger late into the week, according to Yahoo! Sports.
Marc Spears on Twitter
ImpactThings are starting to get interesting with Carmelo. The Lakers have moved into "serious contention" for his services while he could wind up in Miami with Chris Bosh taking a max team with the Rockets. Of course, the Knicks are willing to offer him a max deal and he reportedly doesn't want to move his family. It seems almost certain his decision will come before LeBron James'.

Lakers made an major impact on Carmelo? | 07/05/2014 6:14 PM
NewsThe Lakers made a "major impact" on Carmelo Anthony during their meeting this weekend, according to Bill Simmons of ESPN.
Bill Simmons on Twitter
ImpactIt probably has something to do with Kobe Bryant, who is one of Melo's good friends in the league. In fact, Melo is the only NBA player that is not a teammate or former teammate who is followed on Twitter by Kobe, so that's super important. He is expected to make his decision in the next few days.
Carmelo Anthony 'aligned' w/ Knicks' vision | 07/04/2014 2:59 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony left his final free-agency meeting with the Knicks "largely aligned with president Phil Jackson's vision," according to Yahoo! Sports.
ImpactThe Knicks have a verbal offer of a max deal of five years and $129 million, so if he's really on board with the team's vision, this sounds like he's not going anywhere. He also has a seven-year-old son and that may also help keep him in NY despite the pitches of the Bulls, Rockets, Lakers and Mavericks. The Knicks may have one more tough season on the horizon with Amare Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani on the books, but things should get better in 2015-16.
Noah believes Melo will be re-signing with NY | 07/04/2014 12:04 PM
NewsJoakim Noah has reportedly told several people he believes that Carmelo Anthony will be re-signing with the Knicks.
ImpactWith the Knicks having the ability to offer Anthony significantly more money than any other team, partnered with Anthony's love for New York, and his families desire to remain in New York, all signs are pointing towards Anthony returning to Madison Square Garden. Anthony has also reportedly made a pitch to Pau Gasol to sign with the Knicks, which strengthens the argument.
Carmelo Anthony will get a max offer from NY | 07/03/2014 9:43 PM
NewsThe Knicks offered Carmelo Anthony a max deal on Thursday night during their meeting and he is expected to take the weekend to make his decision.
Chris Broussard on Twitter
ImpactIt's only a verbal offer and it's not formal. There have been all sorts of reports on when Melo will make up his mind with some saying he'll make up his mind this weekend. At first it was expected to he would make a decision in the second week of July, but that seems would be surprising at this point. He's also going to get a max offer from the Lakers while the Mavericks, Rockets and Bulls will also come up with offers of their own.

ImpactIt wasn't a matter of money for the Lakers with only three players under contract. They met with Anthony for 2.5 hours today with Jeanie Buss, Jim Buss, Mitch Kupchak, James Worthy and other executives. Kobe Bryant is expected to meet with Melo tonight, but it doesn't sound like he'll make a decision this evening.
Knicks hoping for an answer from Melo Thurs. | 07/03/2014 4:25 PM
NewsThe Knicks are hopeful Carmelo Anthony agrees to terms with as soon as Thursday night.
Frank Isola on Twitter
ImpactThe report adds that Melo's decision is doubtful to happen tonight. They are in Los Angeles today to try and get the deal done. Things seem to be looking up for the Knicks compared to how they were at this time last week, but he's far from a lock to re-sign.
Knicks to meet with Carmelo Anthony in L.A. | 07/03/2014 2:06 PM
NewsThe Knicks are expected to meet with Carmelo Anthony on Thursday in Los Angeles after his meeting with the Lakers.
Ian Begley on Twitter
ImpactThe Rockets and Mavericks have already had their chances and now he'll get a look at the big-market teams. The Lakers and Knicks do not have the rosters the Rockets and Mavericks do, but the Lakers do have some more financial flexibility. It's also been reported that the Bulls going after Pau Gasol is a sign that the Knicks have a good shot at bringing Melo back. He is expected to make his decision in the second week of July.
Mavericks all business with Carmelo Anthony | 07/03/2014 10:12 AM
NewsThe Mavericks were all business in their meeting with unrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony.
Jeff Caplan on Twitter
ImpactIn what was likely a shot at the Bulls and Rockets, Mavericks owner Mark Cuban divulged the broad-stroke details of the team's meeting with Anthony. "What I can tell you is that we made this purely a business meeting," Cuban said. "No tours. No banners. All basketball and business." The Mavericks reportedly met with Melo at Cuban's house and pitched a winning coach, owner, and organization with the ability to attract more free agents. The Anthony sweepstakes have seemingly come down to the Bulls, Mavericks, and Rockets, but the Lakers, Clippers, and Knicks may factor into this equation before all is said and done.
Rockets meet with Melo for six hours on Wed. | 07/02/2014 5:02 PM
NewsThe Rockets' meeting with unrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony lasted about six hours including lunch.
Marc Spears on Twitter
ImpactThe meeting included a tour of the arena and Anthony talked with Dwight Howard and James Harden for about 10 minutes. The Rockets do have a decent chance of prying Melo away from the Knicks, but they'll get competition from the Mavericks and Bulls next.

NewsCarmelo Anthony visited the Bulls on Tuesday, and is now on his way to Houston, and then Dallas.
David Aldridge on Twitter
ImpactMelo's tour could be a long one, but the Bulls appeared to pull out all the stops. We have not heard any inkling of where Melo may land, but it does sound like he will be meeting with both the Rockets and Mavs on Wednesday. Stay tuned.
Bulls pessimistic on Carmelo Anthony chances | 07/01/2014 1:28 PM
NewsThe Bulls are reportedly pessimistic about their chances to land unrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony.
ImpactThe Bulls will be meeting with Anthony on Tuesday, but a source with knowledge of the situation said, "They're worried that he's headed back to New York. They're more pessimistic than optimistic." The source also added that the sentiment is only shared by a faction of the Bulls' front office, so hope is not lost here for Bulls fans. The Bulls would have to clear some cap space in order to offer Anthony a max deal, but those are some moves the team would be happy to make in order to land their top free agent target.
Mavs focusing their efforts on Carmelo first | 07/01/2014 12:23 AM
NewsThe Mavs are focusing their efforts on acquiring free agent Carmelo Anthony, which according to Ken Berger "speaks to the belief around the league that (LeBron) James stays in Miami."
Ken Berger on Twitter
ImpactIf LeBron is the first domino that needs to fall it's probable that Melo is the second one. The Knicks are expected to get the last presentation to Anthony, and we'll just have to wait for the reports to trickle out before we get a sense of what he'll do.
Carmelo to meet with Bulls, Rockets and Mavs | 06/29/2014 9:32 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony will meet with the Bulls on Tuesday, the first day of free agency, followed by meetings with the Rockets and Mavericks on Wednesday.
Marc Stein on Twitter
ImpactAll three teams have championship aspirations and enough cap space to vie for Melo's services, despite recently reports that the Knicks were "increasingly optimistic" about keeping him in New York. Melo said that he hopes to choose a team by the second week of July, so we're not expecting an imminent decision after his first round of meetings.
Report: Knicks remain favorite to retain Melo | 06/29/2014 11:02 AM
NewsAccording to a Knicks player that spoke with Carmelo Anthony recently, Melo gave no indication that he was planning to leave New York.
New York Post
ImpactThe source stated that one reason Anthony would stay is that he enjoys being in a big media market, as opposed to his days in Denver. The Knicks brass has grown "increasing optimistic" that they will be able to retain the services of Anthony, as Anthony and Phil Jackson have "connected." Anthony also now has a more reliable point guard in Jose Calderon, and he recently stated: "I like everything Phil is doing.'' However, Anthony has yet to meet with any of his suitors, so this is all mostly speculation.
Knicks quietly confident in re-signing Melo | 06/28/2014 8:57 AM
NewsThe Knicks have been "increasingly optimistic" about their chances of bringing back unrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony next month, according to ESPN.com.
ImpactHe's all set to start his visits with the Rockets, Mavericks and Bulls next month and has said he will take two weeks to make his decision. While the Knicks are going limited in the cap-space department, they're hopeful they can make the first year of his contract a bit smaller and pay him more down the line. The Knicks probably won't be able to convince Melo that they're going to be any good this year, but things will start looking up in 2015-16.
Melo could take a pay cut in 1st year of deal | 06/27/2014 8:35 PM
NewsPresident Phil Jackson mentioned Carmelo Anthony could take a 7.5 percent pay cut in the first year of a new deal with the Knicks.
Impact"He's the one that opened that up that it wasn't about the money," Jackson said. "So I challenged him on that because I want our fans to see he's a team player, that he's going to do what was best for this team to get ahead farther and faster. It's not going to be an issue." Melo can make $22.5 million in his first season, and a max contract with the Knicks would give him raises of 7.5 percent in each of the following seasons, so he can basically move the money around in a max deal. The Knicks are tight on cap space in 2014-15 with Amare Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani in the last year of their deals.
Carmelo Anthony aims to make decision soon | 06/27/2014 2:12 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony is hoping to make a final decision on where he will be playing next season by the second week of July, according a source of Yahoo! Sports.
ImpactThe source also mentioned that currently there are no frontrunners in the 'Melo sweepstakes. Anthony is set to meet with the Knicks, Bulls, Lakers, Rockets and Mavericks, however, the Heat were not mentioned. Anthony has stated that he loves playing for New York, but he questions how long it will take before the Knicks are a contender again. Anthony would like to be in a winning situation now, and he knows if he remains in New York he will need to be patient. Phil Jackson has stated that he wants Carmelo to take a pay cut to give the Knicks greater flexibility with the salary cap, but also said he'd be willing to offer a max-deal if that's what it took to retain Anthony's services. Stay tuned.
Carmelo Anthony gives no date for decision | 06/26/2014 7:01 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony, who will become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, has not given Knicks president Phil Jackson a timetable for his decision.
Jonah Ballow on Twitter
ImpactJackson has suggested that the Knicks' star might need to take a pay cut to remain in New York, and Melo has already agreed to meet with the Rockets, Mavericks, Bulls and Lakers. Those aren't the only teams vying for his services, either, and as long as Melo and LeBron James are unsigned we're unlikely to see many teams tying up their salary-cap with splashy free agent signings.
Carmelo Anthony set to meet with Kobe Bryant | 06/26/2014 9:51 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony will meet with Kobe Bryant as part of Bryant's attempt to bring Anthony to the Lakers.
ImpactIt might be easier if we list all the teams and players who aren't interested in Melo as he has no shortage of suitors lined up around the league. Anthony is set to meet with the Bulls, Mavericks, and Rockets are part of his free agency visits, but Kobe Bryant told ESPN.com that he's going to meet with Carmelo as well in an attempt to convince Anthony to join the Lakers. While there is always the possibility that Anthony returns to the Knicks, the odds of that seem to be decreasing in direct correlation with the amount of teams entering the race for Melo's services.

Carmelo Anthony officially opts out on Monday | 06/23/2014 3:16 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony has officially exercised his early termination option with New York on Monday, as expected.
ImpactAnthony also let it be known that family, and living conditions will factor into his decision. "[The average fans] don't take into consideration the family aspect of it. Your livelihood, where you gonna be living at. Do you want your kids to grow up in that place, in that city? Do I want to spend the rest of my career in that situation, in that city... My son goes to school, he loves it here [in New York], to take him out and take him somewhere else, he has to learn that system all over again, he has to get new friends, and I know how hard it was for me when I moved from New York to Baltimore at a young age." Carmelo enters free agency for the first time in his career, and he's sure to have many suitors. Stay tuned.

Riley calls the Melo deal a pipe dream | 06/19/2014 7:09 PM
NewsPat Riley said in his Thursday press conference that the Heat signing Carmelo Anthony (shoulder) this summer is "a pipe dream."
Joe Goodman on Twitter
ImpactHe added that bringing in LeBron and Chris Bosh in 2010 was also a pipe dream. While this sounds like the start of a J.R. Smith joke, there seems to be at least some chance the Heat bring Melo on. The Rockets and Bulls are also in the mix to pry Anthony from the Knicks.
Carmelo Anthony meets with Knicks brass | 06/19/2014 9:35 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony had a "great" meeting with Knicks president Phil Jackson, general manager Steve Mills and head coach Derek Fisher last week.
ImpactMelo met the Knicks' management team in Los Angeles and commended Jackson on his decision to hire Fisher. On Fisher's hiring, Anthony added: "I like what Phil is doing." Anthony is expected to opt out of his current deal and become a free agent, but Jackson is hopeful that Melo will have a change of heart and decide to opt into the last year of his contract to give the Knicks a year to install their plan. Anthony reportedly has until June 23 to decide whether he'll opt out or not, so we should have a resolution to that issue relatively quickly.
Carmelo Anthony very interested in Houston | 06/15/2014 1:17 PM
NewsThe Rockets have gathered "significant momentum as a preferred destination" for Carmelo Anthony, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports.
ImpactDwight Howard and James Harden are reportedly prepared to recruit Anthony as their third star. Houston will need to shed the contracts of Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik in order for this to happen, but a team boasting of Howard, Harden, and Anthony would certainly join the conversation as a championship contender. It's worth noting that Anthony has reportedly been "turned off" by Phil Jackson's public proclamations of wanting Anthony to take less money to stay with the Knicks.
Knicks feeling good about keeping Carmelo | 06/15/2014 10:29 AM
NewsDespite reports that Carmelo Anthony is leaning towards leaving New York, the Knicks organization is still feeling good about keeping their All-Star, according to NBA sources.
New York Post
ImpactAccording to a source close to president Phil Jackson, "The meeting [with Carmelo on Friday] went well - [Anthony] will still most likely opt out - but all in all, a good meeting.'' The Bulls and Rockets are reportedly the front-runners in the Melo sweepstakes, but both teams would have to make some moves in order to acquire Anthony, as both teams are over the salary cap. Chicago would have to amnesty Carlos Boozer, trade Taj Gibson for pennies, and wouldn't be able to sign their 2011 draft pick from Europe, Nikola Mirotic. Houston would have to trade Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik without taking anyone back. In other words, this is all speculation and the only person who really knows what is going to happen is Carmelo Anthony.
Report: Melo leaning towards leaving Knicks | 06/14/2014 12:28 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony is leaning toward leaving the Knicks in pursuit of immediate championship contention, according to Yahoo! Sports.
ImpactThe Bulls and Rockets are mentioned as contenders for Melo. He would be leaving a lot of money on the table and reportedly would be willing to take less than the max deal in the right situation. Everything is just a guessing game, but it's become even more likely that he's going to opt out of the last year of his deal. You can expect more updates on Anthony than any other player over the next month.

ImpactThe Knicks are going to do everything in their power to retain their All-Star, and this meeting will be the first time Melo is able to sit down face-to-face with newly appointed head coach Derek Fisher. Anthony has stated that he intends to opt-out of the final year of his contract, and he will have many suitors upon hitting free agency. If Anthony decides to sign a long-term deal with New York, Jackson will push for him to do so at a discounted price so the Knicks have more salary-cap flexibility in bringing in another high-profile free agent to help compete for a championship.

NewsCarmelo Anthony is expected to opt out of his contract and test free agency, according to the NY Daily News.
New York Daily News
ImpactThis isn't a big surprise and Carmelo would get a five-year, $129 million if he signs a long-term deal with the Knicks. Earlier this month, Jackson said he's concerned about losing Melo, and his fears could be growing with the added speculation of the Heat targeting him.
Fisher says Carmelo can 'thrive' in triangle | 06/13/2014 9:26 AM
NewsCoach Derek Fisher said Carmelo Anthony can thrive in the triangle offense.
Impact"He's actually the prototypical triangle player because of his versatility, we can use him in all five positions on the floor," Fisher said. "That's the beauty of the system -- being able to put players around on different spots on the floor." Melo isn't quite as versatile as he used to be, but that may have been due to Mike Woodson's system. The Knicks ranked last as a team from makes within five feet last season and Anthony didn't help them. In case you haven't been watching the Finals, that's a very effective way to score a basketball.
Report: Anthony still planning on opting out | 06/12/2014 3:41 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony still plans to opt out of the final year of his contract and become a free agent, according to Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.
New York Daily News

NewsHeat officials and the team's leading players have "already started to explore their options" for creating financial flexibility to attempt to sign Carmelo Anthony, according to ESPN.com.
ImpactOh boy. The current trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh would have to opt out and restructure their deals to make this work to give Miami a Big Four. Plus, the salary cap is expected to go up next season, which will help Miami in a big way. LeBron is also "likely to try to recoup potential salary sacrificed through fresh off-court business opportunities," according to the report. Melo has a June 23 deadline to let the Knicks know if he'll opt out of the final year of his deal. You can expect an update on him every day until then.
Carmelo Anthony has 6/23 deadline to opt in | 06/11/2014 4:57 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony has until June 23 to notify the Knicks if he plans to opt in of the final year of his current contract, according to ESPN.com.
ImpactThat date is one week before free agency starts and Melo would be a free agent if he doesn't exercise his $23.3 million player option. New coach Derek Fisher didn't seem overly confident about Anthony staying with the team long term, but did say he wants the All-Star back and considers him "one of the greats." If Melo doesn't opt in, he could sign a long-term deal with the Knicks, Mavs, Rockets or Bulls.

"We'll do everything we can possibly do to give him confidence that we can get the job done and put a team together he can feel is a championship team," said Fisher. Anthony will meet with the Knicks "in the near future," according to team president Phil Jackson, who reportedly wants Fisher to wear his five NBA championship rings during his first face-to-face meeting with Melo.

Hopefully the snub will motivate him next season, whether in New York or elsewhere.

NewsCarmelo Anthony told Phil Jackson that he'd "think about" opting in for the final year of his deal.
Scott Cacciola on Twitter
ImpactJackson told Anthony to "hang in there for a year" and added he has a good relationship with the All-Star. The Knicks are in a tight spot as a franchise with few draft picks and not much cap space, so they don't have the strongest case to keep Melo. Needless to say, this will be a big storyline this offseason.
Report: Knicks favored to re-sign Carmelo | 05/27/2014 10:00 AM
NewsThe Knicks remain the "strong favorites" to re-sign Carmelo Anthony in free agency this summer, according to the New York Post.
New York Post
ImpactThe Rockets and Bulls may not be able to clear enough salary cap space to entice Melo to leave New York, and the Lakers reportedly "aren't too interested in Anthony as a fit with Kobe Bryant." Knicks president Phil Jackson has suggested Melo may need to accept less a less-than-maximum salary to give his team sufficient flexibility. "I like to appeal to [Anthony's] better nature of winning," Jackson said in late April. "There's some obvious examples that everyone can point to."
Carmelo Anthony takes training into the ring | 05/13/2014 9:54 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony is working out with Hino Ehikhamenor as part of his offseason training regimen.
ImpactThis is the fourth straight summer that Melo has worked with Ehikhamenor as a way to sharpen his quickness, conditioning and eye-hand coordination as he heads into free agency. "He loves boxing," Ehikhamenor said. "I could tell in his attendance and in his ability to want to learn everything, from his footwork to mastering his form. I see his frustration when he does something wrong. I just simply tell him that this sport takes time, but he'll get there. He's the ultimate pro." Anthony has gotten himself into noticeably better shape over the last two summer and it's helped with his conditioning as he averaged a career-high 38.7 minutes per game this season.
Amare Stoudemire unsure if Melo will re-sign | 05/10/2014 6:07 PM
NewsAmare Stoudemire's "gut feeling" is that Carmelo Anthony will re-sign with the Knicks as a free agent this summer.
ESPN New York
Impact"That's my gut feeling right now today but I'm not totally sure," Stoudemire said, adding that he prefers to "kind of stay out" of Melo's decision-making process. The Knicks' odds of retaining Melo may have improved with the arrival of Phil Jackson, in addition to whichever head coach the team hires, and they're in a position to give him a maximum contract worth $129 million over five years.
Knicks set to move forward if Carmelo leaves | 04/24/2014 9:11 AM
NewsKnicks president is ready to move forward if Carmelo Anthony leaves as a free agent this summer.
New York Daily News
ImpactWhen asked if it would be a "disaster" if Melo leaves this summer, Jackson didn't sound like he was ready to hit the panic button, "I'm all about moving forward. Just deal with what is and move forward. If it's in the cards, man, are we fortunate. If it's not in the cards, man, are we fortunate. We're going forward anyway." The Knicks can offer Anthony approximately $33 million more than any other team in free agency, but Jackson has also said he expects Melo to stick to his word about taking a pay cut to stay in New York so it will be interesting to see how this situation unfolds.
Phil wants Carmelo to take less than max | 04/23/2014 4:00 PM
NewsKnicks president Phil Jackson said Wednesday that Carmelo Anthony (shoulder) will need to take less than a maximum contract to allow the team to have spending flexibility in the future.
Wall Street Journal
ImpactAnthony has said he'd be willing to take less than a five-year, $129 million deal at max in the past, which would obviously put a huge dent in their salary cap and limit their options to build a contender. The Knicks don't have much else to go on besides that and his name will continue to pop up all offseason. Meanwhlie, he'll be reevaluated for his torn labrum in May.
Bulls, Rockets, Lakers, Clips to pursue Melo? | 04/18/2014 9:41 AM
NewsThe Bulls, Rockets, Lakers and Clippers are among the teams expected to pursue unrestricted free agent Carmelo Anthony.
ESPN New York
ImpactThe Knicks can offer Anthony a five-year, $129 contract. The max he can get from other teams is four years and $95 million. But the Knicks have almost no room to reshape their roster, so re-signing there would not give Anthony his best shot at his stated goal of winning. If he's serious about competing for a title, Melo will take a massive pay cut and sign with Chicago, which could field a starting five of Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler, Anthony, Taj Gibson and Joakim Noah.
Melo: 'I want to come back' to Knicks | 04/17/2014 1:34 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony said on Thursday that he wants to return to the Knicks, but added that he also wants to win next year.
Frank Isola on Twitter
Impact"I want to come back. I also want to win," he said. Whether Melo stays with the Knicks will be a hot topic from now until a decision is made, and while the addition of Phil Jackson gives them some hope, he's also excited to become a free agent. He will likely opt out in July and then start testing the market. Yes, the 'Summer of Melo' is approaching quickly. Melo said on Thursday he doesn't care about the money and just wants to win, while the Knicks can offer him more than any other team - five years, $129 million.

NewsCarmelo Anthony has been diagnosed with a torn labrum in his right shoulder, but he will not require surgery.
Al Iannazzone on Twitter
ImpactMelo will be re-evaluated in one month and it's very interesting that an MRI revealed the tear only after he'd played in a number of games to help the Knicks' slim chances of making the playoffs. While his toughness is commendable, the Knicks' medical staff and management has some questions to answer about letting their star risk aggravating a serious injury. Carmelo is expected to enter free agency via his early-termination option, and once the playoffs end he'll be the focus of this summer's FA frenzy.
Woodson: Melo 'probably won't play' Tuesday | 04/15/2014 11:15 AM
NewsMike Woodson said on Tuesday morning that Carmelo Anthony "probably won't" play against the Nets, and that he will likely shut him down for Wednesday, as well.
Al Iannazzone on Twitter
ImpactTNT is getting a dog of a game, as Amare Stoudemire is a game-time decision, while the Nets will be without Shaun Livingston, Mirza Teletovic and Alan Anderson, and also list Deron Williams, Paul Pierce and Joe Johnson as game-time calls. It would take a small miracle to see Melo in uniform at this point, as he deals with a lost season, a sore shoulder and pending free agency.
Carmelo Anthony misses shootaround | 04/15/2014 10:31 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony missed shootaround on Tuesday in order to have his right shoulder re-examined.
Marc Berman on Twitter
ImpactWhile he hasn't officially been ruled out for tonight's game against the Nets on TNT, it would be fairly shocking to see him play. J.R. Smith might take 50 shots tonight, while it's possible Melo has played his last game for the New York Knicks.
Carmelo Anthony (shoulder) may have MRI | 04/13/2014 10:53 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony (shoulder) said that he may have an MRI in the next few days, and he'll consult with Knicks' doctors about a plan for the final two games.
Chris Herring on Twitter
ImpactThe surprising part is that he hasn't already had an MRI given the uncertain nature of the injury, which has been described as a "strain" and a "dead arm." With potential free agency looming it's conceivable that caution will keep Melo on the sidelines the rest of the way.
Carmelo Anthony (shoulder) logs 28 minutes | 04/13/2014 10:07 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony's shoulder injury didn't give him too much trouble vs. the Bulls, as he scored 17 on 7-of-13 shooting in 28 minutes of action.
ImpactThe Knicks have officially been eliminated from the playoffs, but coach Mike Woodson expects Melo to play in every game down the stretch. "He hasn't indicated to me that he's going to sit down," Woodson said. "That's Melo's. He's been there all year, he's had a helluva season for us." That's somewhat of an understatement, as he's second in the league in scoring at 27.6 points per game.
Carmelo Anthony (shoulder) avoiding tests | 04/12/2014 9:46 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony said that he might have more tests on his shoulder after the season, but he doesn't believe that it's as serious as the partially torn rotator cuff he suffered last year.
New York Post
Impact"This year it's not the same. The pain is different," Anthony said. "What is the test going to do at this point? If they say it's really bad, I'm still not going to sit out. I'd rather to wait until it's all over." While his single-minded focus on the playoffs is commendable, his agent must be praying that he doesn't aggravate the injury -- Melo's early-termination option is poised to make him a FA this summer.
Carmelo Anthony (shoulder) scores 30 points | 04/11/2014 11:11 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony's shoulder wasn't a problem on Friday during a big 108-100 win in Toronto, shooting 8-of-17 from the field for 30 points with eight boards, three assists, three steals and one 3-pointer.
ImpactHe said his shoulder bothered him on Sunday, but the schedule really helped Melo since that was the Knicks' last game. He was able to get to the line 14 times and really played with a lot of heart. The Knicks needed this win, but the Hawks beating Brooklyn hurts their chances to make the post season. They'll get a tough game against the Bulls on Sunday.

ImpactThe Knicks are off until Friday, which gives Melo some time to recover before a crucial game vs. the Raptors. He felt numbness in his arm during Sunday's game and his shot has abandoned him because of the injury, but there is no indication that he'll sit out games.

NewsCarmelo Anthony (ankle) played 40 minutes vs. the Suns on Friday with 21 points, seven boards, one assist, one block and two 3-pointers.
ImpactHe spent a lot of time flexing his ankle in pre-game warmups and also had a couple hitches in his giddy up in the first quarter. Melo also didn't touch the ball much on the first few possessions, but he picked it up in the second half. He should be ready to go Sunday vs. the Warriors.

Carmelo Anthony says his ankle is alright | 03/28/2014 2:24 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony said his right ankle is "alright" from an injury on Wednesday.
Marc Berman on Twitter
ImpactIt does sound like he's going to play Friday night against the Suns, but he did look like he wasn't 100 percent. Anthony and the Knicks don't really have the luxury to rest him considering they're sitting in the nine spot in the Eastern Conference standings. He'll probably play, but his owners will definitely want to check back to make sure.
Carmelo Anthony scores 36, tweaks ankle | 03/27/2014 1:27 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony hit 12-of-21 shots and five 3-pointers for 36 points, five rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block in Wednesday's win at Sacramento, but also tweaked his right ankle during the game.
ImpactMelo said after the game he's good to go for their game at Phoenix on Friday, and we're not about to doubt him as the Knicks are just two games back of the Hawks for the final playoff spot in the East. We're not going to put him on the injury report, but owners might want to check back on Friday to make sure his ankle doesn't become an issue between now and then.
Carmelo Anthony scores 29 points vs. Lakers | 03/26/2014 1:22 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony shot 10-of-21 from the field for 29 points vs. the Lakers on Tuesday with nine boards, three assists, one block one steal and one 3-pointer.
ImpactHis 3-point shot isn't dropping much, but he's done very well in the mid-range game to keep his scoring average at 28 points per game in March. Anthony is taking 21.0 shots per game this month and he continues to define the term volume scorer. Still, he's put up big numbers and is having his second strong post-break run in a row.
Carmelo Anthony's 32 pts not enough vs. Cavs | 03/23/2014 10:34 PM
NewsThe Knicks' eight-game winning streak was ended by the visiting Cavs on Sunday, despite Carmelo Anthony scoring a game-high 32 points.
ImpactMelo made 8-of-20 field goals with four 3-pointers, shot a pristine 12-of-12 at the FT line, and had eight rebounds, two assists, two blocks and three turnovers in 40 minutes. The Knicks' porous defense was their undoing, and the loss allowed the Hawks to maintain their three-game lead on the East's final playoff spot.
Carmelo Anthony denies wanting to leave NYK | 03/20/2014 10:05 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony is excited to be part of the Knicks with Phil Jackson now on board.
ImpactTwo days after rumors swirled about Melo's desire to leave the Knicks after this season, Anthony shot down those reports. "I was hoping that I would be part of the future plans," Anthony said on Wednesday. "I never once said that I wanted to leave New York or anything like that. The only thing I said was I'm going to dabble and try the free agency out, that I was going to opt out and become a free agent. I'm excited about the opportunity to hopefully work with Phil." We'll have to wait to see how this drama plays out over the summer, but if Melo's 34 point performance on Wednesday night is indicative of how he'll respond to the Jackson hiring, his fantasy owners should have a fun month ahead of them.
Carmelo Anthony scores 34 in win over Pacers | 03/20/2014 12:57 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony hit 12-of-23 shots and 10-of-12 free throws for 34 points, five rebounds and three assists in Wednesday's win over the Pacers.
ImpactHe didn't hit a 3-pointer, but the Knicks are rolling right now with seven straight wins. They're tracking down the Hawks for the last playoff spot in the East, and given how the Pacers played tonight, along with the current vibe in Indiana, the Pacers probably wouldn't be thrilled with a first-round matchup against Phil Jackson's new team. As for Melo's status going forward, he said Wednesday that he's never said he wanted to leave the Knicks, and it should be a very interesting meeting once he sits down with Jackson to discuss his future in New York.
Carmelo Anthony part of Phil Jackson's plans | 03/18/2014 11:39 AM
NewsNew Knicks' president Phil Jackson said Carmelo Anthony is part of the team's future plans.
Al Iannazzone on Twitter
ImpactDuring his introductory press conference, Jackson remarked that he believes there is "no doubt" that Melo is a player that the Knicks can build around and that the Knicks' star can still "take his game to another level." It is interesting to note that Jackson also added that he believes in a system (presumably his triangle offense), so it remains to be seen how Melo fits into that system as he is notoriously an isolation player. With rumors swirling that Anthony may not return to the Knicks after this season, we may not see those plans come to fruition so fantasy owners should just sit back and enjoy the production they'll get out of Anthony for the next month.
Carmelo Anthony as good as gone? | 03/18/2014 11:21 AM
NewsAccording to Stephen A. Smith, Carmelo Anthony is planning to leave the Knicks after this season.
ESPN First Take
Impact"I was told this last week, I was told a few days ago, I had it reiterated to me by somebody I trust yet again this morning, that Carmelo Anthony is gone, he is leaving New York city," Smith said on ESPN's First Take. "And he is gone because he's at the mindset that in order to achieve any amount of success he would had to sacrifice not just this this year but next year as well, because of this current roster." While we're not doubting Smith's sources, we'll have to wait this one out until the summer to see if the rumors hold true. Whether or not Melo leaves New York for greener pastures after the 2013-14 season, his fantasy owners can still enjoy owning one of the top scorers in the game for the next month.
Report: Rockets will make a play for Carmelo | 03/14/2014 9:14 AM
NewsA source tells the New York Post that the Rockets will make a bid for Carmelo Anthony if/when he opts out this summer.
New York Post
ImpactThe cap-strapped Rockets couldn't just sign Anthony, of course. They'd have to do a sign-and-trade that included both Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik. It's a longshot, but maybe the Knicks would want to do it so they sell tickets/merchandise with Lin, tank in 2014-15 and then watch the $8 million contracts of each player come off the books in the summer of 2015. The Rockets, meanwhile, could field a fearsome starting five of Patrick Beverley, James Harden, Chandler Parsons, Anthony and Dwight Howard.
Carmelo Anthony not bothered by Jackson hire | 03/13/2014 10:22 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony said the Knicks' hiring of Phil Jackson won't affect his decision in free agency.
The Wall Street Journal
ImpactThere were initial reports that Jackson's hiring might dissuade Anthony from returning to the Knicks, but Melo tried to squash those rumors on Wednesday. "I don't think it has any effect on me as far as what I'm thinking or my decision or anything like that," Anthony said. "I haven't talked to Phil yet to get his insight on a lot of things, like what's his plan, or what his future plans are. And everything is in his hands now." This sounds like a drama waiting to unfold over the summer, but fantasy owners don't need to worry about that right now and should just sit back and enjoy owning one of the top offensive players in fantasy basketball.
Carmelo Anthony scores 34 points vs. Boston | 03/13/2014 12:00 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony scored 34 points vs. the Celtics on Wednesday with nine boards, two assists, one steal and four 3-pointers in 39 minutes.
ImpactConsidering his centers were Cole Aldrich and Jeremy Tyler tonight, Melo certainly made a statement with solid play even if it did come against the Celtics. His post-break averages looked great coming into tonight with 30.6 points, 7.2 boards, 3.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 3.1 triples on 47.4 percent from the field in his previous 13 games. He's one of the best offensive players in the NBA.
Carmelo Anthony goes off in full line vs. CLE | 03/08/2014 11:30 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony scored 26 points during Saturday's 107-97 win over the Cavs, adding seven boards, four assists, three steals, two blocks and four 3-pointers.
ImpactHe is on cruise control for the Knicks with 29.0 points and 3.5 triples per game over his last four. Melo had 2.8 steals per game and has put up some eye-popping stats since the All-Star break. The Knicks have won three games in a row and are just four games back of the eighth seed in the Eastern Conference.
Melo goes for 29 and eight in win over Jazz | 03/08/2014 12:00 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony scored 29 points on 10-of-19 shooting with four rebounds, a season-high eight assists, two steals and a block in the Knicks' 108-81 blowout win over the Jazz.
ImpactAnthony is setup to roll as a first round value the rest of the way as long as the Knicks are in playoff contention. Tyson Chandler went for 16 and 11 with no steals or blocks, and J.R. Smith scored 17 points with five treys and three blocks of his own in the win.
Report: Noah makes recruitment pitch to Melo | 03/07/2014 9:17 AM
NewsSources tell ESPN that Joakim Noah approached Carmelo Anthony over All-Star weekend about signing with the Bulls this offseason.
ImpactAnthony is expected to exercise his early termination option and become an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Knicks, Bulls and Lakers are among the teams that are likely to pursue him, but Noah's selling point was the chance to actually win. A core of Anthony, Noah, Derrick Rose, Jimmy Butler and Taj Gibson would be very formidable. One issue could be money. The Knicks can pay Carmelo $22.4 million per season, while the Bulls could only offer him roughly $15 million after using the amnesty clause on Carlos Boozer.
Knicks snap 7-game losing streak, Melo w/ 33 | 03/06/2014 12:33 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony scored a game-high 33 points vs. the Wolves during Wednesday's 118-106 win with five boards, five assists, three steals and three 3-pointers in 43 minutes.
ImpactAnthony went off down the stretch last year and he looks poised to do it again this season. Over his previous 10 games, he averaged 32.4 points, 8.0 boards, 2.7 assists, 1.0 steals, 0.5 blocks and 3.8 triples on 47.3 percent from the field. The Knicks snapped their seven-game losing streak and could work on a winning streak as they host the struggling Jazz on Friday.
Carmelo Anthony rips Knicks' lack of effort | 03/03/2014 11:31 AM
NewsCarmelo Anthony lambasted his team's lack of effort during Sunday's loss to the Bulls, saying, "It seems like we're not even competing right now."
Impact"As a team we've got to have some type of sense of pride just to go out there and compete," he said, after the Knicks lost for the 10th time in 12 games. "It's frustrating, it's embarrassing." Anthony studiously avoided talking about his plans in free agency ("I can't even see next year. I can't even see tomorrow at this point") but it's hard not to speculate about his future when he's openly dissatisfied with the course the Knicks have taken.
Carmelo Anthony scores team-high 21 pts | 03/02/2014 3:46 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony's sore shooting hand didn't prevent him from scoring a team-high 21 points on 8-of-17 shooting in Sunday's loss to the Bulls.
ImpactThe Knicks announced that Melo has a bruised hand without any structural damage. He'll continue to play through pain as the Knicks finish their road trip with games Monday in Detroit and Wednesday in Minnesota, and we'll let you know if he's in any danger of a DNP.

NewsCarmelo Anthony (sore right hand) is not listed on the Knicks' injury report in advance of Sunday's game.
Ian Begley on Twitter
ImpactThe implication is that he will play despite his hand being "very sore," and beat writer Marc Berman also heard that Melo will be active. We'll consider Melo probable, to be on the safe side, and should have a definitive update after New York's shootaround.
Carmelo Anthony to have hand evaluated | 02/28/2014 11:30 PM
NewsCarmelo Anthony said he will likely have his hand examined this weekend.
Frank Isola on Twitter
ImpactHe took a couple hard slaps to the hand and there is no word of anything serious. There have been a slew of broken metacarpal injuries this season, so hopefully Melo isn't the latest one. Anthony should be considered probable for Sunday vs. the Bulls
