|Assets:||A smart, hard-working veteran presence in the post. Still above-average as a rebounder and shot-blocker. Never stops working on or off the hardwood. Brings power, skill, intensity, and leadership to the court every game.|
|Flaws:||Age and injuries have limited his ability to play big minutes. Has become injury-prone later in his career. A little undersized for an NBA post player (although his huge wingspan makes up for it).|

Hawks, Knicks interested in Elton Brand | 07/01/2014 2:23 PM
NewsThe Hawks and Knicks have both expressed interest in unrestricted free agent Elton Brand.
ImpactBrand confirmed in April that he hopes to return of his 16th NBA season, and it seems he'll get his wish with at least a few teams vying for his services. He averaged 5.7 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.2 blocks last season and will fill a niche as a backup big man, but he's no longer an appealing fantasy option at age 35.
Elton Brand expects to play next season | 06/02/2014 11:02 AM
NewsElton Brand said on Monday that he intends to play next season.
Impact"My body feels good," Brand said. "I'm already training for next season." He is 34 years old and is coming off a fairly productive season, playing in 73 games. Brand has struggled to stay healthy for much of his career, but he'll enter free agency and could get some attention on a short-term deal.
Elton Brand undecided on playing next season | 05/05/2014 2:36 PM
NewsElton Brand said during his exit interview on Monday that he is undecided on whether he will play next season.
Chris Vivlamore on Twitter
ImpactBrand, the number one overall pick in 1999, finished his 15th season in the NBA after the Hawks were eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday. He is set to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, and will likely have to sign for the veteran minimum if he wants to continue his career next season.
Brand puts up defensive numbers vs. BKY | 04/11/2014 11:16 PM
NewsElton Brand kept putting up defensive numbers on Friday, posting two steals and four blocks to go with four points and three boards.
ImpactPer usual, Brand did his damage in 22 minutes and regardless of Pero Antic's status he's a solid add if you're targeting big man stats.
Elton Brand starts, posts a double-double | 04/09/2014 11:03 PM
NewsElton Brand drew a start in place of Pero Antic vs. the Celtics on Wednesday, scoring 13 points with 13 boards, three assists, three steals and one block in 33 minutes.
ImpactAntic's sore ankle has been an issue before and he could be looking at missing more time. Brand's minutes had been fairly low heading into tonight, so he could be somewhat fresh for the stretch run. Nothing in certain since Antic could be back as soon as Friday, but Brand is at least worth a look for owners needing a big man.
Elton Brand gets a DNP-CD | 03/29/2014 10:41 PM
NewsElton Brand did not play on Saturday night vs. the Wizards.
ImpactHe played 30 minutes on Thursday and the Hawks might have just rested him tonight. Brand is no spring chicken anymore and fantasy owners should look elsewhere now that Pero Antic is back.
Elton Brand double-doubles vs. Blazers | 03/27/2014 9:55 PM
NewsElton Brand double-doubled against the Blazers during Thursday's 100-85 loss with 11 points, 12 boards, two assists, one steal and one block in 30 minutes.
ImpactHe was banging in the paint and has really done well in establishing position close to the basket. Brand used to be a guy who could beat guys from 15 feet away and he's done a nice job of adapting to his aging frame. With Pero Antic (ankle) out and day-to-day, Brand is worth a look for anyone needing a big man.
Brand has efficient night in 19 minutes | 03/11/2014 1:36 AM
NewsElton Brand scored eight points on 4-of-5 shooting with four rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocks in just 19 minutes off the bench on Monday against the Jazz.
ImpactThe Jazz are struggling badly and that partly explains the uptick in production here, but Brand needs to do something like this again to deserve consideration in 12-14 team formats.
Elton Brand plays 18 minutes in loss | 03/09/2014 1:37 AM
NewsElton Brand came off the bench for 18 minutes and had eight points, five rebounds, two assists and zero blocks in Saturday's loss to the Clippers.
ImpactBrand has been pretty fun to own with Pero Antic and Paul Millsap injured for the Hawks, but both players are back and in the starting lineup, meaning Brand's run is over. If they get hurt again, Brand will re-emerge as a fantasy factor, but if not, he's not worth holding.
Elton Brand plays 31 minutes in up-tempo loss | 03/02/2014 11:13 PM
NewsElton Brand notched 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, one steal and two blocks in 31 minutes on Sunday, as the Hawks fell 120-129 in Phoenix.
ImpactIn the process he tied Elvin Hayes for No. 21 on the all-time blocks list, having swatted 1,771 shots in his career. A fast-paced game like Sunday doesn't play to Brand's strengths, to say the least, and it's a credit to the veteran that he's been effective in huge minutes as the short-handed Hawks limp to the finish line. EB has been a solid fantasy option for the past 10 days but his value will take a hit with Pero Antic (ankle) on the verge of a return.
Elton Brand stays hot in Hawks loss | 02/26/2014 10:15 PM
NewsElton Brand played 34 minutes and had 10 points, seven rebounds, five assists, a steal and five blocks in Wednesday's loss to the Celtics.
ImpactHis minutes have been through the roof and he's been playing well for the struggling Hawks. Paul Millsap, Pero Antic and Gustavo Ayon are eventually going to return and give him a breather, but Brand may have carved out enough minutes to be relevant even when some of those guys are back.
Elton Brand steps up in team-high 42 minutes | 02/25/2014 10:36 PM
NewsElton Brand played a team-high 42 minutes on Tuesday, notching seven points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in a losing effort.
ImpactThe Hawks played small-ball from start to finish tonight, thanks to the absence of Gustavo Ayon (shoulder), Pero Antic (ankle) and Paul Millsap (knee). It's great to see the veteran Brand succeeding in huge minutes, and he's a borderline fantasy option until the Hawks get some healthy bodies in their frontcourt.
Elton Brand goes for 20 & 11 in start | 02/19/2014 10:20 PM
NewsElton Brand started at center Wednesday and had 20 points, 11 rebounds, a steal and zero blocks in a loss to the Wizards.
ImpactBrand played 30 minutes on Tuesday and 35 minutes tonight, meaning he could be ready for a rest at some point soon. However, with Gustavo Ayon, Pero Antic, DeMarre Carroll and Al Horford all hurt, he simply can't afford to take a night off. And really, his whole team could use a break, as the Hawks have now dropped seven straight games. Brand is averaging 10.0 points and 7.8 rebounds in 26 minutes over his last five games, but hasn't blocked a shot in three straight. But with so many bigs hurting for the Hawks, Brand deserves a look by anyone in need of a fantasy big man.
Elton Brand is indeed starting on Wednesday | 02/19/2014 6:05 PM
NewsElton Brand will start at center against the Wizards on Wednesday.
Chris Vivlamore on Twitter
ImpactHe started the second half on Tuesday night due to the injury of Gustavo Ayon, so this was an expected move. Brand played well and has a chance at a double-double tonight, but the Hawks might be careful with their 34-year-old veteran. He's worth a look as a risky, high-upside spot start.
Elton Brand could see bigger role for Hawks | 02/18/2014 9:59 PM
NewsElton Brand played 30 minutes and had eight points, eight rebounds and a steal in Tuesday's loss.
ImpactGustavo Ayon left early with a shoulder injury and DeMarre Carroll sounds doubtful for Wednesday with a hamstring injury. And that means that Brand and Mike Scott are the only bigs available for the Hawks. If you want to spot-start Brand in a daily league on Wednesday, it makes sense.
Elton Brand goes for 8 & 8 in loss | 02/11/2014 10:56 PM
NewsElton Brand came off the bench for eight points, eight rebounds and a block in 26 minutes on Tuesday.
ImpactGustavo Ayon started and had four points, eight rebounds, three steals and a block in just 19 minutes, but has been pretty unreliable. With Mike Scott cooling down (8 points, 18 minutes), Brand is still worth keeping a close eye on after averaging 8.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over his last five.
Elton Brand goes for 9-7-2 in loss | 02/08/2014 10:39 PM
NewsElton Brand came off the bench for nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks in 23 minutes in Saturday's loss.
ImpactMike Scott never got it going tonight and Brand had just four points and six rebounds in his previous game. However, he's worth keeping an eye on, as Brand is still averaging 10.2 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.8 blocks over his last five games.
Elton Brand turns back clock for Hawks | 02/04/2014 10:53 PM
NewsElton Brand hit 6-of-8 shots for 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in 21 minutes off the bench on Tuesday.
ImpactHe was probably the best Hawks player tonight and we're not quite sure why he's not starting over Gustavo Ayon as they await the return of Pero Antic. Before you get too excited and pick Brand up, take a look at his game log. he's scored 12, 8, 18, 0 and 10 points in each of his last five games, and will have a hard time being consistent as long as he's coming off the bench. But if you're in a deep league and need some boards, blocks and potential scoring, give him a look.
Brand out of nowhere for 18 and 8 vs. PHI | 01/31/2014 11:43 PM
NewsElton Brand came out of nowhere to put up 18 points and eight rebounds against his old Sixers team on Friday.
ImpactBrand hit 8-of-12 shots and this is the first time we've blurbed him since January 8. Let's see him make some noise again before paying him much attention.
Elton Brand plays well in 20 minutes | 01/08/2014 10:45 PM
NewsElton Brand hit 3-of-5 shots for eight points, four rebounds, one assist, one steal and one block in 20 minutes off the bench on Wednesday.
ImpactBrand played 30 minutes on Tuesday and had 10 points, seven boards and three blocks, and it's officially time to put him on the fantasy radar as he continues to have a role for the short-handed Hawks.
Elton Brand plays season-high 30 minutes | 01/06/2014 10:41 PM
NewsElton Brand played a season-high 30 minutes against the Nets on Monday, scoring 10 points with seven boards and three blocks.
ImpactIt was easily his best game of the season and he was the first big man off the bench. Brand did not play more than 20 minutes in a game before tonight and that 20-minute outing had a lot to do with garbage time. The Hawks have some work to do up front, so Brand is only worth a look in deep leagues. His 34-year-old frame also makes him an injury risk.
Elton Brand starts at center without results | 12/31/2013 4:10 PM
NewsElton Brand had four points and one rebound during 12 minutes of action on Tuesday.
ImpactHe remains the Hawks' starting center but it's a hollow title since he's averaging 15 minutes per game in the role. Pero Antic had five points and five rebounds in 22 minutes while Gustavo Ayon went scoreless in seven minutes, and it's no surprise that the Hawks are reportedly looking for ways to improve their depth and talent in the wake of Al Horford's pectoral injury.
Elton Brand to start against Celtics on Tues | 12/31/2013 12:17 PM
NewsElton Brand will again be in the starting lineup when the Hawks face the Celtics on Tuesday.
Chris Vivlamore on Twitter
ImpactBrand has seen an increase in playing time since Al Horford got injured, but hasn't done much with it as he's only averaged 3.3 points and 2.67 rebounds in his 14.3 minutes per game over his last three contests. Unless Brand somehow sees his minutes drastically jump to 25-30 per game, he's not worth owning in anything but the deepest of fantasy leagues.
Elton Brand invisible in second start at C | 12/29/2013 9:03 PM
NewsElton Brand started at center again on Sunday but only had seven points and two rebounds in 14 minutes.
ImpactPero Antic played 20 minutes off the bench, Mike Scott played 17 minutes and Gustavo Ayon barely saw the court. This situation has 'platoon' written all over it, and fantasy owners should hedge their bets unless one of Atlanta's big men steps into a 30-minute role.
Elton Brand quiet in start for Hawks | 12/28/2013 11:38 PM
NewsElton Brand started for the Hawks on Saturday but hit just 1-of-4 shots for three points and four rebounds in 19 minutes.
ImpactMike Scott got hot off the bench and Pero Antic played 22 minutes in the win. Brand could still end up holding some value with Al Horford out indefinitely with a shoulder injury, but after this game, we'd rather be holding Scott instead of Brand. Scott had
Elton Brand to start for Hawks | 12/28/2013 11:58 AM
NewsElton Brand will start at center for the Hawks.
Chris Vivlamore on Twitter
ImpactBrand gets the starting nod over Mike Scott, Pero Antic, Gustavo Ayon in place of the injured Al Horford, although there is no telling how long it will last. Brand was averaging just 12.9 minutes per game in December. He is worth picking up as a flyer in deep leagues, in shallower leagues we recommend waiting and seeing how he plays. Ayon will likely still see an increase in minutes as well.
Elton Brand still plays just 10 minutes | 12/26/2013 11:07 PM
NewsElton Brand played 10 minutes against the Cavs on Thursday, failing to score with two rebounds and one block.
ImpactHis minutes have been interesting to monitor since the preseason. Back on Oct. 8, he kicked off the month with a surprising 30 minutes played, but in the regular season he's played at least 20 minutes once during the regular season. The 34-year-old big man is playing only 11.4 minutes per game this year, so it would be hard to imagine the Hawks pushing him over a 21.2 minutes-per-game threshold -- his average with the Mavs last year. Only owners in very deep leagues should be looking to add Brand.
Elton Brand plays well in start for Hawks | 10/22/2013 9:59 PM
NewsElton Brand had 11 points, five rebounds, two steals and two blocks in Tuesday's win over the Pacers.
ImpactBrand has been a blocking machine this preseason and is entrenched into a solid bench role for the Hawks. He's no longer a top fantasy big man, but when you need some blocks late in your draft, he is someone who should be able to help.
Elton Brand gets 30 minutes, has seven blocks | 10/08/2013 10:52 PM
NewsElton Brand blocked seven shots in 30 minutes against the Bobcats on Tuesday, adding four points, eight boards and one steal.
ImpactHe played just 21.2 minutes per game last season, so the uptick in minutes tonight is a surprise. The blocks were even a bigger surprise, but the Bobcats did lead the NBA in blocks allowed per game at 6.9. The acquistion of Brand in the offseason looks to be an important piece for the Hawks with Gustavo Ayon (shoulder) out for a while. If you miss the boat on big men in your draft, there are worse options to take than Brand in deeper formats.
Elton Brand expecting to play more center | 09/13/2013 6:41 PM
NewsElton Brand said he's expecting to play more center and the Hawks to run more this season.
Impact"We're going to have to scramble, we're going to have to be quick, and make them pay on the other end," Brand said. "Get the rebounds and go." The Hawks ranked 14th in pace last season and could pick up the tempo with Dennis Schroder backing up Jeff Teague in Mike Budenholzer's system. Brand could help both guards in pick-and-roll and could see more than the 21 minutes per game from last season. The 34-year-old big man isn't worth drafting in standard leagues, though.
Elton Brand expects to be a backup center | 07/16/2013 2:23 PM
NewsElton Brand said he expects to be a backup center with the Hawks.
ImpactAt age 34 with completely sapped athleticism, backup center is the right role for Brand. He still has the strength to bang with the league's bigger men, and taking some defensive pressure off Al Horford will be big. Horford has admitted to wearing down when having to guard the Dwight Howards and Roy Hibberts of the world.
Report: Elton Brand will sign with the Hawks | 07/15/2013 1:25 PM
NewsElton Brand will sign with the Hawks on a one-year deal, according to his agent David Falk.
Hoopshype on Twitter
ImpactThe Hawks lost out on Zaza Pachulia and they really needed some depth up front. It's a good landing spot for Brand and he'll play behind Al Horford and Paul Millsap at the four and five spots. The 34-year-old big man's minutes dropped from 28.9 in 2011-12 to 21.3 in 2012-13 and he'll likely have a minute allotment between the two in Atlanta.
Report: NYK 'still in play' for Elton Brand | 07/06/2013 9:25 PM
NewsThe Knicks are "still in play" for Elton Brand, according to ESPN New York, but they may be outbid by other interested teams.
ESPN New York
ImpactIt shouldn't be hard to top the Knicks offer after they dipped into their mini-mid-level exception to retain Pablo Prigioni, leaving them reliant upon minimum-salary deals to pad their roster. Brand may announce a decision as soon as this weekend.
Elton Brand weighs interest around the league | 07/03/2013 9:33 AM
NewsElton Brand is in "no rush" to sign a contract, according to his agent, as he gauges interest from the Knicks and other teams.
Impact"He's definitely interested in New York," said David Falk. "But it's early. He's exploring his options." The Knicks still hope to retain J.R. Smith and they may use part of their mini-mid-level exception to sign Pablo Prigioni, which leaves precious few dollars to throw at Brand. When the season ended Brand said that he wanted to re-sign with the Mavericks, but that's boilerplate exit-interview material.
Report: Knicks prepare offer for Elton Brand | 07/02/2013 11:01 AM
NewsThe Knicks are preparing a contract offer for veteran big man Elton Brand, and ESPN's Jared Zwerling reports that "mutual interest [is] high."
Jared Zwerling on Twitter
ImpactBrand is an unrestricted FA who hasn't been thrilled with his role the past few seasons. With Amare Stoudemire expected to play on a minute-limit next season, and possibly sitting out back-to-back sets, Brand would likely play a significant bench role on a playoff contender. His toughness and defense would be a welcome counterpoint to presumptive starting PF Andrea Bargnani, but for now there has been no official offer made.
Elton Brand wants to return to Mavs next year | 04/20/2013 11:57 AM
NewsElton Brand said he wants to return to the Mavs next season.
Dallas Morning News
ImpactBrand made just over $2 million this season and is slated for unrestricted free agency. He was a solid depth option for the Mavs and had stretches of usefulness for fantasy purposes. We'd guess his return to Dallas likely depends on the Mavs' other free-agent options, like landing Dwight Howard.
Elton Brand expected to play on Monday | 04/15/2013 6:43 PM
NewsElton Brand, who didn't get off the bench on Sunday, is expected to play on Monday.
Bryan Gutierrez on Twitter
ImpactRick Carlisle said that because Brand got last night off, he expects to use him tonight. Brand has been highly unreliable, but if you're desperate for a big man who will play tonight, Brand looks like an option.
Brand (calf) returns to action on Friday | 04/13/2013 2:31 AM
NewsElton Brand (calf) returned to action on Friday, playing 14 minutes with two points, four rebounds and two blocks.
ImpactBrand hit 1-of-3 shots and until he shows owners something he can remain on the wire in most formats.
Elton Brand is warming up vs. Denver | 04/12/2013 8:25 PM
NewsElton Brand is warming up and is expected to play against the Nuggets on Friday.
ImpactHe's missed four games with a sore right calf and his absence has allowed Brandan Wright and Chris Kaman to make a splash in fantasy leagues. Wright and Brand could lose a handful of minutes, but their owners shouldn't panic in deeper leagues.
Elton Brand likely to make his return Friday | 04/12/2013 12:18 PM
NewsElton Brand (calf) has a chance to make his return on Friday vs. Denver.
Earl K. Sneed on Twitter
ImpactBrand was expected to be in uniform on Wednesday, and although he was, he wound up not playing. This time, it sounds like he's got a better chance to play, but it's not clear what kind of minutes limit he's going to be on or if he'll play for certain. We don't expect him to make an impact for fantasy owners.
Elton Brand (calf) inactive again vs. Phoenix | 04/10/2013 7:53 PM
NewsElton Brand (calf) will not play against the Suns on Wednesday.
Bryan Gutierrez on Twitter
ImpactHe will likely be in uniform, but the team does not expect him to play. His sore right calf has now cost him four games. Chris Kaman exploded for 26 points on Sunday while Brandan Wright wasn't too shabby with a 13-point, nine-board line. Both players should have success tonight against Phoenix's soft interior D.
Carlisle expects Brand to be in uniform Weds. | 04/10/2013 12:17 PM
NewsRick Carlisle expects Elton Brand (calf) to be in uniform against the Suns on Wednesday, but it's not clear if he'll play.
Earl K. Sneed on Twitter
ImpactEven if Brand does manage to get back into the action, it will likely be in a very limited role to protect him. Chris Kaman and Brandan Wright are both playing well enough to earn most of the minutes alongside Dirk Nowitzki.
Elton Brand in play for Wednesday | 04/09/2013 4:55 PM
NewsElton Brand (calf) is questionable for Wednesday's game against the Suns.
Dallas Morning News
ImpactBrand has missed the three previous games. He was able to participate in Tuesday's practice, putting him in line to return for his usual 15-20 minutes come Wednesday. It's a slight blow to Chris Kaman's suddenly resurgent fantasy value.
Elton Brand (calf) practices on Sunday | 04/07/2013 2:16 PM
NewsElton Brand (calf) participated in some of Sunday's shootaround and is a game-time decision for Sunday's night game in Portland.
Earl K. Sneed on Twitter
Impact"It's the preverbal game-time [decision]," Brand said. He missed the last two games with a sore right calf, which can be a tough injury to shake. Brand has lost most of his fantasy value, but if he plays, it could hurt Brandan Wright and Chris Kaman.
Elton Brand's calf not progressing as hoped | 04/05/2013 10:14 AM
NewsElton Brand's calf is "not progressing like we expected it to," according to Brand.
Impact"It's not getting better," he said. "I'm in no way trying to shut it down. It's like a game-to-game situation." Brand played through pain for two games before sitting out on Thursday, and it's not clear when he might be able to return.
Elton Brand (calf) out for Thursday's game | 04/04/2013 7:39 PM
NewsElton Brand will not play against the Nuggets on Thursday due to a sore right calf.
Chuck Cooperstein on Twitter
ImpactHe played in just 14.5 minutes per game over his previous two and was losing ground to Chris Kaman and Brandan Wright. The Nuggets lead the league in scoring in the paint, so Rick Carlisle might be calling on Wright to play a little more. Kaman also played 20 minutes on Wednesday and could be a factor, as well. Brand can remain on almost all waiver wires.
Elton Brand scores 10 points in 18 minutes | 03/24/2013 10:29 PM
NewsElton Brand had 10 points, five rebounds and two blocks in his return to the Mavericks' rotation on Sunday, playing 18 minutes in a reserve role.
ImpactEB's DNP on Friday seemed to give him some extra pep in his step -- he made all five of his field goal attempts, and he even chipped in three dimes and one steal without any turnovers. Chris Kaman was the low man on the totem pole tonight, scoring four points with three turnovers in just eight minutes.
Elton Brand starts, logs 21 minutes at C | 03/17/2013 10:24 PM
NewsElton Brand started at center in place of Chris Kaman on Sunday, finishing a tough loss to the Thunder with four points, four boards, three steals and one block in 21 minutes.
ImpactThis was the Mavericks' 21st unique starting lineup of the season, which sums up the tumultuous nature of Rick Carlisle's rotations. Brand has decent upside for FG percentage, points, rebounds and blocks, but it's anyone's guess how long he'll last as a starter.
Elton Brand posts 10 & 12 vs. Wolves | 03/10/2013 10:22 PM
NewsElton Brand only played 22 minutes in Sunday's victory, but he piled up 10 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.
ImpactEB's low-end fantasy value is improved by the paucity of reliable centers, as well as a Mavs' schedule that features three four-game weeks in the coming month. Rick Carlisle isn't to be trusted, but for now Brand has a reasonably steady 20-minute role despite the presence of Chris Kaman (16 minutes on Sunday) and Brandan Wright (27 minutes).
Elton Brand scoreless in ugly loss to Rockets | 03/03/2013 10:44 PM
NewsElton Brand was invisible in 17 minutes vs. the Rockets, going scoreless with four rebounds and four personal fouls.
ImpactChris Kaman continues to start at center but up until tonight Brand had been carving out fantasy value in a bench role. The Mavs simply couldn't match up with the Rockets' run-and-gun personnel tonight, and they gave up a 44-point third quarter, so hopefully this was an isolated incident.
Brand keeps up with the defensive stats | 03/02/2013 2:48 AM
NewsElton Brand scored eight points with two rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks in 25 minutes off the bench on Friday.
ImpactBrand has just eight rebounds in his last two games, but in both he has recorded two steals and two blocks. That's what you're looking for out of a big man, and he's playing well enough to be owned in most formats right now despite the inherent risk.
Elton Brand plays well off Mavs bench | 02/28/2013 2:32 AM
NewsElton Brand had 12 points, six rebounds, two steals and two blocks in 26 minutes off the bench on Wednesday.
ImpactChris Kaman made a surprise start at center tonight, and while he didn't do much, Brand could suffer if Kaman starts getting heavy minutes and playing well. Brand has been very solid while Kaman's been out with a concussion, so we'd recommend sticking with him until we see where this train is headed.
Elton Brand goes for 12 points and 14 boards | 02/27/2013 1:13 AM
NewsElton Brand scored 12 points with 14 boards, one assist, one steal and three blocks in 25 minutes against the Bucks on Tuesday.
ImpactHe's stringing games together and over his previous three games, Brand averaged 14.7 points, 6.7 boards and 1.3 blocks in 25.7 minutes. His minutes are still going to limit his upside while also making it very likely that he'll be inconsistent, but he's worth a look for owners needing a big man.
Elton Brand scores 14 points vs. Lakers | 02/24/2013 5:36 PM
NewsElton Brand scored 14 points with eight boards and two assists in 29 minutes against the Lakers on Sunday.
ImpactHe scored a combined 30 points in his last two games and he's been coming on lately. Although, Chris Kaman coming back isn't going to help his case as a pickup. If he's still sitting on the wire in your league, it's probably justified.
Brand posts solid line in 23 minutes | 02/23/2013 1:45 AM
NewsElton Brand scored 13 points off the bench on Friday, hitting 6-of-12 shots with seven rebounds, one steal, and two blocks in 23 minutes.
ImpactBrand has been decent lately but it's anybody's guess how long he can keep it up. Give him a look if you're desperate for a big man.
Elton Brand drops 17 points vs. Orlando | 02/21/2013 2:24 AM
NewsElton Brand scored 17 points with five rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes against the Magic in Wednesday's 111-96 victory.
ImpactHe did show a bright spot a couple weeks ago, but his previous five games haven't been turning many heads, averaging 6.4 points and 7.0 boards on just 42.4 percent from the field in 21.4 minutes. The consistency factor will likely keep him out of the discussion in standard leagues while the Mavs are healthy.
Brand quiet in 21 minutes on Monday | 02/12/2013 2:40 AM
NewsElton Brand played 21 minutes off the bench on Monday, scoring six points on 2-of-5 shooting with three rebounds, two steals, and one block.
ImpactBrand is worth a look if you're desperate for a big man in 12-14 team leagues and that's about it.
Elton Brand posts 11 & 11 vs. Warriors | 02/10/2013 1:00 AM
NewsElton Brand, playing 29 minutes off the bench, finished Saturday's victory with 11 points, 11 rebounds, two assists, two steals and two blocks.
ImpactEB's blocks and boards have been up lately, but his value continues to fluctuate with his playing time. Starting center Bernard James had two points, three rebounds and four personal fouls in 13 minutes.
Elton Brand plays 19 minutes in start | 02/01/2013 2:35 AM
NewsElton Brand started at center for the Mavericks on Thursday and had four points, five boards, one assist and one block against Golden State.
ImpactHe shot just 2-of-7 from the field and got a heavy dose of Andrew Bogut. Brand has surprisingly been better with Dirk Nowitzki in the lineup, so he's probably the only frontcourt Dallas player that doesn't really gain value while Dirk recovers. Bernard James scored six points with eight boards, one steal and one block in 18 minutes off the bench. Brandan Wright also picked up 22 minutes, scoring nine points with three rebounds and three blocks. Wright and James are worth looks in deeper leagues with Chris Kaman and Dirk out.
Elton Brand disappears after two quick fouls | 01/30/2013 2:21 AM
NewsElton Brand came off the bench behind Bernard James and picked up two quick fouls, finishing with just two points and two rebounds on 1-of-6 shooting in 17 minutes on Tuesday.
ImpactJames played just 15 minutes for 10 points, three boards and a block, while Chris Kaman was out with a concussion. A big man is going to have to step up at some point for the Mavs, and our guess is that it will be Brand. But he's in a slump and Rick Carlisle is electing to play small lineups right now. Brand is no longer a must-own player, but we wouldn't be surprised to see him bounce back sooner than later.
Elton Brand benched, scores 12 points | 01/27/2013 11:58 PM
NewsElton Brand surprisingly came off the bench on Sunday and had 12 points and three rebounds in just 17 minutes, as little known Bernard James got the random start tonight.
ImpactWe're guessing that Rick Carlisle was trying to send Brand and Chris Kaman a message tonight, as James played just 11 minutes (as did Kaman). If you recently picked up Brand just hang onto him to see how this plays out. We're guessing his benching is temporary.
Elton Brand plays 25 minutes in start Friday | 01/26/2013 3:27 AM
NewsElton Brand started at center on Friday and had eight points, 13 boards and two blocks in 25 minutes against the Spurs.
ImpactHe's earned the starting gig with impressive play while Chris Kaman (eight points and three boards in 12 minutes) can't seem to find his footing. Brand is worth an add for owners seeking a big man based on his last five games with averages of 12.6 points, 9.6 boards and 1.0 blocks.
Elton Brand starting at center in Friday | 01/25/2013 9:00 PM
NewsElton Brand is listed as the starting center against the Spurs on Friday.
ImpactHe'll take the place of Chris Kaman and Brand has been playing very well lately. In his last five games, Brand averaged 13.0 points, 8.8 boards and 0.8 blocks in 26.8 minutes. He has been very ineffective in his 13 starts this year, shooting 35 percent from the field, but he's definitely worth a look in standard formats.
Mavs have pondered starting Brand over Kaman | 01/22/2013 3:27 PM
NewsCoach Rick Carlisle recently acknowledged that he's considered starting Elton Brand over Chris Kaman.
ImpactCarlisle wisely wants a defensive-minded player like Brand playing next to the defensively-challenged Dirk Nowitzki. So even though he hasn't pulled the trigger on the move yet, Brand's minutes are on the rise. Over the last five games, he's averaging 13.0 points, 8.8 rebounds, 0.8 blocks and 0.6 steals. There's some plug-n-play appeal with the veteran.
Elton Brand starts at center in second half | 01/20/2013 9:42 PM
NewsElton Brand started at center in the second half on Sunday, moving Chris Kaman to the bench, and he finished with 14 points, six rebounds and two steals in 23 minutes.
ImpactEB is averaging career-lows in nearly every category this season, including minutes (22 per game). Even when he plays he hasn't been allowed to go to work in the post, which is his forte, instead relying heavily on assisted mid-range jumpers. His role is beginning to change, however, and in the past five games he's averaging 13.0 points, 8.6 rebounds and 1.0 blocks. A starting gig is within his reach, making him a decent pickup if you need a big man.
Elton Brand double-doubles vs. Thunder | 01/19/2013 3:06 AM
NewsElton Brand double-doubled off the bench against the Thunder on Friday, scoring 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting with 13 rebounds and one block in 36 minutes.
ImpactBrand has been playing fairly well lately and is worth a look if you need a big man.
Elton Brand could join starting lineup? | 01/18/2013 10:35 AM
NewsRick Carlisle said that he has an "ongoing analysis of everything" when asked about Elton Brand potentially joining the starting lineup.
Dallas Morning News
ImpactFor now, it sounds like Brand will continue to come off the bench behind Chris Kaman, but Carlisle left the door open for that to change if Brand keeps playing well. In January, Brand is averaging 9.7 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocks on 59.1 percent shooting.
Elton Brand stays hot, double-doubles | 01/17/2013 12:48 AM
NewsElton Brand stayed hot on Wednesday and had 11 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in 27 minutes.
ImpactThat was Brand's first double-double in January and just the fourth of the season, but he's starting to come on, averaging 14 points, eight rebounds and a block over his last three games. If you need a big man, he's probably available in your league.
Elton Brand scores a season-high 20 points | 01/15/2013 1:13 AM
NewsElton Brand shot 10-of-13 from the field for a season-high 20 points to go with six rebounds, three assists and one steal in 30 minutes during Monday's 113-98 win over Minnesota.
ImpactIt's hard to believe, but Brand has been better with Dirk in the lineup than when he was out of the lineup earlier this year. He has played in just 20.3 minutes per game since Dirk's return, so that's not going to be enough to get our attention for standard leagues.
Elton Brand quiet, injures left hand | 01/10/2013 3:08 AM
NewsElton Brand came off the bench for eight points, four rebounds, a steal and a block on 3-of-6 shooting 26 minutes, while also appearing to injure his left hand in Wednesday's loss.
ImpactHe stayed in the game and we're not going to put him on the injury report, but he was seen holding his hand a lot in the fourth quarter. He's averaging 8.4 points, 5.4 rebounds and 1.8 blocks over his last five, making him worth a look in deeper leagues by owners in need of a big man who can block shots.
Brand nears double-double vs. Jazz | 01/08/2013 2:29 AM
NewsElton Brand scored 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting with nine rebounds and two blocks in 20 minutes off the bench on Monday.
ImpactBrand had a nice 12-point, three-rebound, five-block outing on Saturday but has been inconsistent all season. He's best suited for consideration in deeper formats until we can see if he can keep it up.
Elton Brand scores 12 pts w/ five blocks | 01/06/2013 1:51 AM
NewsElton Brand came off the bench with 12 points, three rebounds and five blocks vs. the Hornets, and he supplanted Chris Kaman at center down the stretch.
ImpactEB looked very good tonight, perhaps inspired by Dirk Nowitzki's return to the PF spot. The Hornets also couldn't defend EB tonight, and he may not have as much luck against the Jazz (on Monday) and Clippers (on Wednesday). Proceed with caution.
