Spurs guard Corey Joseph played well in a spot start on Saturday night. | 12/07/2014 10:18 AM
NewsSpurs guard Corey Joseph played well in a spot start on Saturday night.
ImpactWith Tony Parker sidelined, Joseph went 7-of-10 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line for 18 points, five assists, four rebounds, one steal, and zero turnovers. Whenever Parker sits, Joseph should be in all lineups, and will continue to make for solid daily plays during those times.
Cory Joseph scores 13 points in start at PG | 04/08/2014 10:47 PM
NewsCory Joseph started at PG on Tuesday in place of Tony Parker (back), scoring 13 points on 4-of-5 FGs and 5-of-8 FTs.
ImpactCoJo added two assists and three steals to pacify owners, but he was limited to just 20 minutes of action as the Spurs got blown out in Minnesota. Patty Mills added eight points without any assists in 22 minutes, and Marco Belinelli had just three points in 26 minutes, but all three reserve guards could see heavy playing time with Tony Parker (sprained back) and Manu Ginobili (bruised calf) iffy to play on Thursday or Friday.
Cory Joseph to start for Parker Tuesday | 04/08/2014 12:06 PM
NewsCory Joseph is expected to start in place of Tony Parker (back) on Tuesday against the Timberwolves.
Kent Youngblood on Twitter
ImpactThis is not a surprise and we're still thinking Patty Mills has a better chance for a big game tonight, but you just never know with Gregg Popovich. In the last six games Parker has missed this season, Mills is averaging more than 16 points, despite coming off the bench in most of them.
Cory Joseph gets 35 minutes in start | 03/25/2014 1:35 AM
NewsCory Joseph started in place of Tony Parker (Achilles) on Monday, playing 35 minutes with 12 points, seven boards, five assists, two steals and two turnovers.
ImpactGarbage time was also a factor for Joseph matching his season high in minutes and setting a career high in boards. Parker should be back in the lineup on Wednesday and Joseph will likely go back to his role of 8.4 minutes per game off the bench.
Cory Joseph plays well in start for Parker | 02/12/2014 10:33 PM
NewsCory Joseph started for Tony Parker (back) and hit 4-of-9 shots and a 3-pointer for 11 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals in Wednesday's win.
ImpactPatty Mills was solid with 16 points and three 3-pointers off the bench, and is a more reliable option than Joseph on nights when Parker is out.
Cory Joseph will start for Parker Wednesday | 02/12/2014 6:21 PM
NewsCory Jospeh will start against the Celtics on Wednesday.
Jeff McDonald on Twitter
ImpactTony Parker is going to sit this one out and the Spurs will have to use a combination of ball handlers to fill the void. Joseph hasn't been very effective in his 11 previous starts, averaging 8.4 points, 2.5 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.5 triples, so he's not necessarily a strong play based on the starting distinction. Patty Mills being a high-volume guy off the bench might be a better play in a pinch.
Cory Joseph scores team-high 18 points | 02/06/2014 10:55 PM
NewsCory Joseph scored a team-high 18 points against the Nets during a 103-89 loss on Thursday, adding four boards, three assists, four steals and one 3-pointer in 35 minutes.
ImpactHe has been in the starting lineup for the decimated Spurs and put up a season-high in points . Joseph has usually been in the lineup for some continuity and doesn't usually get this much playing time, so those taking a look at him should not overreact to one of his best lines ever.
Cory Joseph plays 31 minutes vs. Hawks | 01/24/2014 11:43 PM
NewsCory Joseph drew the start against the Hawks on Friday during a 105-79 win, playing 31 minutes with eight points, six boards, three assists, two steals and one turnover.
ImpactHe started the third quarter on Wednesday after the Kawhi Leonard injury, so it's not a surprise to see him start. While starting is nice, it's never easy for fantasy owners to trust Greg Popovich with any sort of role player. Joseph is only worth a look in deeper leagues for now.
Cory Joseph starting for the Spurs | 01/24/2014 7:31 PM
NewsCory Joseph will start against the Hawks on Friday night.
ImpactHe started the third quarter on Wednesday and this move isn't really a surprise. Joseph joins Tony Parker, Marco Belinelli, Tim Duncan and Jeff Ayres in the starting lineup. Fantasy owners can ignore Joseph for the most part and Manu Ginobili should get some more playing time. Belinelli is also a beneficiary of Kawhi Leonard's hand injury.
Cory Joseph plays 26 minutes in fill-in start | 01/19/2014 9:32 PM
NewsMaking a rare start at PG in place of Tony Parker (shin) on Sunday, Cory Joseph notched 12 points, two 3-pointers, four rebounds and three assists in 26 minutes.
ImpactParker's injury isn't serious and he's expected back for San Antonio's next game, so this has no lasting repercussions. CoJo's fantasy relevance is constrained to the deepest of leagues.
Cory Jospeh starting on Sunday | 01/19/2014 5:36 PM
NewsCory Joseph will start against the Bucks on Sunday.
Spurs on Twitter
ImpactThis isn't a surprising move from the Spurs and they've used Joseph as a starter before this season. Even though he will start, Patty Mills is the guy who will likely have more play-making responsibilities. Tony Parker shouldn't miss much time with his shin injury.
Cory Joseph will not play on Monday | 12/23/2013 6:49 PM
NewsCory Joseph (illness) will not play against the Raptors on Monday.
Spurs on Twitter
ImpactHe has a stomach bug and the Spurs will have to count on Patty Mills to back up Tony Parker. Joseph has fallen behind Mills and isn't worth owning in almost any league.
Cory Joseph quiet in start at point guard | 12/19/2013 2:12 AM
NewsCory Joseph got the start at point guard for the Spurs on Wednesday, but had just four points and zero assists on 2-of-5 shooting.
ImpactPatty Mills ended up being the best point guard for the Spurs tonight, coming off the bench for 12 points, four assists, two steals and two 3-pointers on 4-of-10 shots in the win. Tony Parker's shin injury will keep him out again in the next one, and while there are no guarantees, the smart money is on Mills to be the most productive point guard for the Spurs again.
Cory Joseph will start at point guard vs. PHX | 12/18/2013 2:08 PM
NewsCory Joseph will start at point guard for the Spurs against the Suns on Wednesday.
Mike Monroe on Twitter
ImpactTony Parker is expected to miss at least two games with a bruised right shin to create the opening in the starting lineup. This isn't much of a surprise to see Joseph starting and he'll make his second appearance in the starting lineup on the season. In his previous start, he scored 13 points with four assists and one 3-pointer in 25 minutes. He'll likely split the time right down the middle with Patty Mills again.
Cory Joseph starts, scores 13 points | 11/29/2013 11:01 PM
NewsCory Joseph started his first game of the season for Tony Parker (ankle) and had 13 points, two rebounds, four assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 25 minutes.
ImpactHe split the point guard duties with Patty Mills tonight. Mills had eight points, one rebound, two assists, one steal and one turnover in 23 minutes. Parker's ankle injury doesn't sound too serious and he should be considered questionable for Saturday against the Rockets. There is little reason to pick up Mills or Joseph.
Cory Joseph favored for Spurs' backup PG job | 10/12/2013 12:31 PM
NewsGregg Popovich said that Cory Joseph "probably has first dibs" on the Spurs' backup PG position.
San Antonio Express-News
ImpactJoseph played nearly as often in the D-League last year (26 games) as he did in the NBA (28 games), but Pop showed a lot of trust in him down the stretch. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect anything more than his averages in April last season -- 5.1 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.7 assists in 19 minutes per game.
Cory Joseph has near triple-double for Canada | 08/31/2013 9:10 AM
NewsCory Joseph had 17 points, eight rebounds and 10 assists to help Canada defeat Jamaica in Friday's FIBA Americas Championship game.
Impact"He had us going," Triano said of the Spurs' guard. "I thought his coming off of ball screens and what he was doing was very good." Tristan Thompson added 11 points and 12 rebounds in the victory, while Andrew Nicholson was quiet in under 17 minutes of action. Canada faces Puero Rico on Saturday.
Cory Joseph will play for Team Canada in FIBA | 07/21/2013 11:28 PM
NewsCory Joseph will play for Team Canada in the FIBA America's tournament this August.
ImpactAssuming he doesn't injure himself, the experience can only be a good thing for San Antonio's young backup PG. He also participated in the Vegas Summer League, averaging 10.3 points on 38.9 percent shooting, with 4.5 assists per game.
Joseph posts solid line in fill-in duty | 04/16/2013 1:01 AM
NewsCory Joseph started at point guard with Tony Parker and others out on Monday, scoring 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting with six rebounds, eight assists and one steal in 33 minutes.
ImpactIf the gang stays out in the season finale, Joseph could be serviceable for owners in need of point guard assistance.
Cory Joseph bounces back in blowout loss | 03/12/2013 11:33 PM
NewsCory Joseph bounced back from Monday's poor game (four points, one assist) on Tuesday with 15 points, two rebounds, three assists, a block and a 3-pointer on 5-of-9 shooting in 26 minutes of a blowout loss to the, gulp, Timberwolves.
ImpactJoseph continues to start in place of injured Tony Parker and will have good nights and bad ones. Patty Mills played 24 minutes with eight points and six assists, and Nando De Colo had 13 points, four boards, two assists and a 3-pointer in 20 minutes. The Spurs' point guard position will continue to be a mess, but if you're desperate, Joseph looks like he has the best chance at success simply because he's starting.
Joseph posts low-end line in blowout loss | 03/09/2013 3:08 AM
NewsCory Joseph scored 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting (no threes) with three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 26 minutes as the starting point guard once again in the Spurs' 136-106 home loss to the Blazers.
ImpactJoseph might have seen a few extra minutes due to the blowout loss, but he's doing just enough right these days to stay on the floor over the group of Patty Mills and Nando De Colo. De facto PG Manu Ginobili had 16 points and just three assists, and while we don't want to overvalue what happens in an outlier contest this will at least keep Joseph on the deep league radar.
Cory Joseph quiet in another start for Spurs | 03/07/2013 12:01 AM
NewsCory Joseph started at point guard again on Wednesday but hit just 2-of-5 shots for four points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal in 24 minutes.
ImpactGary Neal never got off the bench and Patty Mills had 13 points, zero assists and three 3-pointers off the bench, hitting 5-of-6 shots in 22 minutes. The reality is that Manu Ginobili is now basically running the point in San Antonio, and had 18 points and nine assists in just 26 minutes tonight. We'd keep ignoring Joseph, Mills and Neal until they show us something more than they have thus far in Tony Parker's extended absence.
Cory Joseph draws praise from Gregg Popovich | 03/04/2013 9:05 AM
NewsCory Joseph, who started in place of Tony Parker on Sunday, drew praise from Gregg Popovich following the win over the Pistons.
San Antonio Express-News
ImpactJoseph isn't a factor when Tony Parker (ankle) is healthy, but Popovich started him on Sunday in order to keep his bench rotation intact. Popovich liked Joseph's defense on Brandon Knight. "I liked his defense," Popovich said. "I liked his aggressive attitude. He's gotten his opportunity, and he seems to be taking advantage of it."
Cory Joseph quiet in surprise start at PG | 03/03/2013 11:07 PM
NewsStarting at PG for the Spurs on Sunday, Cory Joseph scored eight points with one 3-pointer, four assists and two steals in an easy win vs. the Pistons.
ImpactNando DeColo was generally considered the favorite to start in Tony Parker's absence. Instead, Gregg Popovich inserted Joseph, who was plucked out of the D-League this week and had only started one game in his career before tonight. CJ logged under 18 minutes, however, and he's a shaky source of value with Nando De Colo (13 minutes), Gary Neal (nine minutes) and Patty Mills (16 minutes) all nipping at his heels.
Cory Joseph will start at point guard Sunday | 03/03/2013 6:55 PM
NewsCory Joseph will start at point guard for the Spurs against the Pistons on Sunday.
Mike Monroe on Twitter
ImpactHe was just recalled from the D-League on Thursday, so of course Gregg Popovich will make him his starting point guard with Tony Parker (ankle) out of the lineup. The Spurs are likely going to utilize some mutant form of a four-headed monster at point guard with Joseph, Nando De Colo, Patty Mills and Gary Neal, so hopefully some things get cleared up in today's game. No player is a great pickup in standard leagues given how murky this situation is.
