NewsPatty Mills had successful surgery on his torn right rotator cuff on Thursday.
Mike Monroe on Twitter
ImpactHe has no timetable to return, but Mills did get a three-year deal on Thursday to make him feel a little better. The Spurs should have him ready to go for the season and he'll continue to pick up a lot of the scoring slack on the second unit with Manu Ginobili.
The Spurs have agreed to a three-year deal with Patty Mills, according to Buck Harvey of the San Antonio Express-News. | 07/02/2014 7:33 PM
NewsThe Spurs have agreed to a three-year deal with Patty Mills, according to Buck Harvey of the San Antonio Express-News.
ImpactA torn rotator cuff that will keep Mills out for seven months put a damper on his free agency tour, although he may have planned to sign with the Spurs regardless. He averaged 10.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 threes in just 18.9 minutes per game for the Spurs during the regular season.
Patty Mills gets a three-year deal with Spurs | 07/02/2014 7:13 PM
NewsThe Spurs and Patty Mills have agreed on a three-year deal, according to the San Antonio Express News.
Buck Harvey on Twitter
ImpactHe had an awesome postseason run and may have had a bigger role on another team, but the Spurs will keep him on their bench. Mills doesn't really start too often even when Tony Parker sits out because of Cory Joseph, but he's been a decent per-minute guy for fantasy production. He'll be worth a late-round flier in deeper leagues.
Free agent guard Patty Mills is expected to miss seven months after having surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, reports The Sydney Morning Herald. | 07/02/2014 4:47 PM
NewsFree agent guard Patty Mills is expected to miss seven months after having surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his right shoulder, reports The Sydney Morning Herald.
ImpactMills, who was born in Australia, averaged 10.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.7 threes in just 18.9 minutes per game for the Spurs during the regular season and was expected to be a hot commodity in free agency, but now he may just re-sign with San Antonio.
Patty Mills shoulder surgery: Out 3 months | 07/02/2014 12:15 AM
NewsFree agent Patty Mills will withdraw from Australia's world cup and will need about seven months to recover from a shoulder injury, that requires surgery.
Sydney Morning Herald
ImpactMills will soon have surgery to repair the rotator cuff in his right shoulder and will need seven months to recover, meaning he could miss at least the first three or four months of the upcoming NBA season. He played through the pain during the season and playoffs, but will go under the knife in upcoming days. He'll still be a hot commodity in free agency, but not nearly as hot as he would have been were he entering the season healthy.
Knicks interested in free agent Patty Mills | 06/17/2014 11:00 AM
NewsThe Knicks are interested in unrestricted free agent Patty Mills, according to reports.
ImpactThe Knicks are looking to use their mini mid-level exception to sign a free-agent starting point guard and Mills has emerged as a candidate after his strong showing in the NBA Finals. Mills averaged 10.2 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists this season and would reportedly be interested in playing in New York as he would be able to play starters minutes. "New York is definitely a city Mills would want to play in,'' a source said. "He has that personality.'' Mills could be an interesting fantasy options based on sheer minutes if he signs with the Knicks and could make for a solid later-round pick if this rumor becomes reality.
Patty Mills enters free agency as a champion | 06/15/2014 11:40 PM
NewsPatty Mills gave the Spurs a huge lift on Sunday, pouring in 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting with five 3-pointers and two assists in just 18 minutes off the bench.
ImpactMills also showed a knack for flopping, drawing a few unjust offensive fouls against the Heat, but his outside shooting was a dagger in the second half. His minimum-salary contract expires this summer and he undoubtedly earned himself some cash with his playoff performance, complicating his decision to return with the Spurs or chase more money elsewhere.
Patty Mills worked his way into the rotation | 06/15/2014 12:17 PM
NewsPatty Mills spent a lot of time during the offseason in the gym working on his game, and as a result, he has become an important piece to the Spurs puzzle.
San Antonio Express-News
Impact"When [Mills] came to camp this year all trim and very aggressive, very focused, he made us notice him," Gregg Popovich said. "Then as the games came and went and he played more and more minutes, I think he gained a confidence, and we gained a confidence in him to the point where sometimes he's out there, and I leave Tony [Parker] too long." Mills has been a pleasant surprise this season, and a championship this year would give a Hollywood ending to the documentary currently being made on the Australian born product.
Patty Thrills: Mills scores 14 in 16 minutes | 06/13/2014 12:10 AM
NewsPatty Mills scored an efficient 14 points in 16 minutes vs. the Heat on Thursday, adding one rebound, two assists and four 3-pointers.
ImpactHe scored just 20 points combined in the previous four games and just went Vinnie "Microwave" Johnson off the bench tonight. Mills has answered the call throughout the season and actually ranked 10th in the NBA for effective field goal percentage in the regular season, so this isn't a surprise. The Spurs depth has been a tremendous advantage.
Patty Mills getting some rest on Monday | 04/14/2014 6:52 PM
NewsPatty Mills will not play against the Rockets on Monday due to rest.
Jeff McDonald on Twitter
ImpactHe's had a great season and this will be his first DNP. Mills has shot the ball extremely well from deep, making 42.5 percent from that range for 1.7 triples. He'll likely be back for Wednesday.
Patty Mills scores 26 points in win vs. Mavs | 04/11/2014 12:58 AM
NewsPatty Mills caught fire against the Mavericks in the starting lineup on Thursday, scoring a game-high 26 points with two boards, six assists, two steals and six 3-pointers.
ImpactHe's making 3-pointers like they're layups these days, shooting 17-of-27 (62.9 percent) over his last six games. Mills played a season-high 36 minutes tonight and the Spurs could ask Mills to get some extra run down the stretch. He looks like a must-own player in fantasy leagues in the last week.
Patty Mills starts at PG ahead of Cory Joseph | 04/10/2014 8:26 PM
NewsPatty Mills started ahead of Cory Joseph for the Spurs on Thursday.
ImpactTony Parker (back) remains sidelined and Gregg Popovich decided to tweak his lineups at the last moment. Mills and Joseph typically split minutes in Parker's absence anyway, with Mills providing more fantasy upside, so this shouldn't have a dramatic impact on their values.
Patty Mills scores 21 points in loss to OKC | 04/03/2014 11:48 PM
NewsPatty Mills scored 21 points off the bench during Thursday's 106-94 loss to the Thunder, adding six boards, one assist, one steal and five 3-pointers.
ImpactThe Spurs had their 19-game winning streak snapped tonight and are now 0-4 against OKC on the season. Mills continues to step up when coach Gregg Popovich rests guys and tonight was no different with Manu Ginobili resting. He's a sneaky player to own in standard leagues for his output in triples.
Patty Mills scores 15 points off bench | 03/25/2014 1:30 AM
NewsPatty Mills scored 15 points with three boards, three assists, three steals, one block and three 3-pointers in 23 minutes.
ImpactHe always has a high usage rate in games which Tony Parker (Achilles) sits out and that didn't change tonight. Parker should be back in the lineup on Wednesday, so prospective fantasy owners of Mills shouldn't use this line to make any crucial lineup decisions.
Patty Mills scores 16 points in 24 minutes | 03/04/2014 9:48 PM
NewsPatty Mills got hot off the bench on Tuesday during a win over the Cavs with 16 points, three boards, five assists, two steals and four 3-pointers.
ImpactWhile Tony Parker going down hurt the Spurs a little in the standings, the time off allowed Patty Mills to really develop his game. He's not shy about taking shots and had 10.2 shots per game in his last five to go with averages of 9.6 points, 3.6 boards, 2.2 assists , 0.6 steals and 1.4 triples. He's still not worth owning in standard leagues while Parker is healthy.
Patty Mills cools off in win over Pistons | 02/27/2014 1:54 AM
NewsPatty Mills came off the bench and played 21 minutes, finishing with 11 points, three rebounds, two assists and a 3-pointer on 5-of-10 shooting.
ImpactMills had just four points in his last game, mainly because he hit just 2-of-14 shots, but played a little better tonight. The 21 minutes are a little disappointing, but as long as Tony Parker (back/rest) remains out, Mills is still worth using in most leagues. Prior to his two-game drought, Mills was hot, scoring between 23 and 29 points in four of seven games. Cory Joseph started and played 25 minutes, but finished with 11 points and zero assists. Mills is still the guy to own while Parker is out.
Patty Mills stays hot with 29 points in win | 02/20/2014 2:22 AM
NewsPatty Mills scored 24 of his 29 points in the second half on Wednesday, finishing with three rebounds, two assists, two steals and a 3-pointer in a tough win over the Blazers.
ImpactMills is on fire right now, as Tony Parker sits with a back injury, and has scored 25 or more points in three of his last four games, including a season-high 32 points a week ago Saturday. Over his last five, which includes a six-point game when he dinged up his ankle, Mills is averaging 21.6 points, 3.6 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.2 steals and 2.0 3-pointers. Parker will eventually be back from his back injury, but Gregg Popovich may see fit to limit his minutes with Mills playing so well. It's hard to say how long this run will last, but you might as well pick him up and plug him in while he's hot.
Patty Mills scores 25 points in 27 minutes | 02/19/2014 2:37 AM
NewsPatty Mills stayed hot on Tuesday with Tony Parker in street clothes and had 25 points, five rebounds, five assists, a block and two 3-pointers on 9-of-15 shooting in 27 minutes off the bench.
ImpactWith the news that Tony Parker could miss several more games with general soreness, Mills should keep it going. And he's officially hot, averaging 19.0 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.2 3-pointers over his last five games.
Patty Mills scores 16 off Spurs bench | 02/12/2014 10:42 PM
NewsPatty Mills played through his sprained ankle on Wednesday and hit 6-of-13 shots and three 3-pointers for 16 points and two steals in 20 minutes off the bench.
ImpactTony Parker was out and any time that's the case, Mills is a good bet for some solid production. Cory Joseph got the start tonight and also played well, but once Parker's back, both guards will be too inconsistent for most fantasy rosters.
Patty Mills has an ankle issue | 02/10/2014 11:07 PM
NewsPatty Mills suffered a sprained ankle against the Pistons on Monday, playing just 14 minutes for six points with one board, one assist and one turnover.
Jeff McDonald on Twitter
ImpactHe shrugged off his injury after the game and said he expects to play on Wednesday. Mills could be a key piece of their offense with Tony Parker a possible candidate to sit. However, Parker sitting is more speculation than anything else, so there's really no need to add Mills based on that for now.
Patty Mills scores season-high 32 points | 02/08/2014 9:33 PM
NewsPatty Mills put the Spurs on his back during Saturday's 104-100 win against the Bobcats, scoring a season-high 32 points with seven boards, four assists, two steals and four 3-pointers in 25 minutes.
ImpactHe shot 10-of-13 from the field and played down the stretch in place of Tony Parker. Mills played well over his previous two games, averaging 19.5 points, 3.5 boards, 3.0 assists and 3.0 triples in just 21.5 minutes. His minutes have yet to really take off, but his volume scoring while he's out there can be useful for owners in deeper leagues or even some standard formats until he cools off.
Patty Mills scores 16 points off bench | 02/06/2014 10:47 PM
NewsPatty Mills scored 16 points off the bench against the Nets on Thursday with one board, two assists, one steal and two 3-pointers in 23 minutes.
ImpactHe is going to be a huge part of the bench and has usually been the better guard to own compared to Cory Joseph. Mills has some nice range and he can get his own shot, so he's a decent player to pick up in some 14- and 16-team leagues at least until Tony Parker is back.
Patty Mills scores 15 off Spurs bench | 02/02/2014 1:10 AM
NewsPatty Mills had 15 points, one rebound, one assist, two steals, a block and two 3-pointers on 6-of-14 shooting on Saturday.
ImpactGiven all of the injuries the Spurs are dealing with Mills is getting some nice opportunity right now, mostly off the bench. He's averaging 11.0 points, 1.2 steals and 2.4 3-pointers over his last five games, and if those numbers will help your team, he might be worth a short-term look until his teammates get healthy.
Patty Mills cools off vs. Heat on Sunday | 01/26/2014 3:47 PM
NewsPatty Mills lost some of his momentum against the Heat on Sunday, scoring just three points with two rebounds, one steal and one 3-pointer.
ImpactHe had 13 triples in his previous three games and had nowhere to go but down today. Joseph just didn't have a role with the not really having a place to put him on defense, so he should have a better showing in the divisional matchup against the Rockets on Tuesday.
Patty Mills scores 18 off the bench vs. ATL | 01/24/2014 11:34 PM
NewsPatty Mills was hot against the Hawks on Friday, shooting 6-of-10 from the field for 18 points with two boards, two assists, two steals and six 2-pointers in just 23 minutes.
ImpactThe Spurs went with a lot of three-guard lineups tonight and Mills got hot with three 3-pointers in his first three minutes of action. His a capable scorer and should see close to 20 minutes per game, but fantasy owners shouldn't be expecting this type of production.
Patty Mills drops 20 pts w/ Tony Parker out | 01/19/2014 9:28 PM
NewsPatty Mills scored 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting with seven assists, three steals and only one turnover in 27 minutes on Sunday, taking advantage of Tony Parker's absence with a shin injury.
ImpactMills has proven that he can score, if nothing else, but Parker's impending return means that he belongs on the waiver wire in standard leagues.
Patty Mills drops 20 on Warriors in win | 12/20/2013 1:50 AM
NewsPatty Mills scored 20 points in the first start this season, adding five boards, two assists, three steals and two 3-pointers on 8-of-17 shooting.
ImpactHe's been relatively effective in his 16.4 minutes per game with the Spurs this year, shooting 47.1 percent from the field and not turning the ball over much. Mills looks like he'll be able to put up usable production in deep leagues while Tony Parker is out based on his last two games yielding averages of 16.0 points, 3.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 2.0 triples. The Spurs take on the Thunder on Saturday and Parker should be considered questionable. Cory Joseph played just 14 minutes and scored five points, making it clear he's behind Mills for now.
Patty Mills playing through sore right ankle | 12/18/2013 11:29 AM
NewsSpurs PG Patty Mills was bothered by a sore right ankle during Monday's game.
San Antonio Express-News
ImpactHe hurt himself on Saturday but doesn't plan to miss any games. "I got a steal and just went up for a shot, and it sort of rolled," he said. "It's a little sore but nothing I can't play through." Mills has a chance to step up with Tony Parker (shin) out of the lineup for two games, but Gregg Popovich is just as likely to split minutes between Mills and Cory Joseph, while giving more ball-handling duties to Manu Ginobili and Marco Belinelli.
Patty Mills gets some garbage time | 11/10/2013 2:49 PM
NewsPatty Mills scored 15 points in Sunday's easy win over the Knicks to go with one board and two 3-pointers in 23 minutes.
ImpactThis was a garbage-time special, so fantasy owners can ignore this blip on the radar. Manu Ginobili scored nine points with five boards, five assists and one 3-pointer in 23 minutes.
Patty Mills perfect off Spurs bench | 10/31/2013 2:28 AM
NewsPatty Mills came off the bench to hit 4-of-4 shots, 3-of-3 3-pointers and his only free throw attempt, finishing with 12 points and one assist in just 17 minutes.
ImpactIf Tony Parker goes down at some point this season, Mills is the guy you'll want to pick up.
Patty Mills scores 22 with full stat line | 10/22/2013 11:19 PM
NewsPatty Mills lit it up in Tuesday's preseason win over the Magic, finishing with 22 points, three rebounds, two assists, five steals, two blocks and four 3-pointers.
ImpactWow. Mills has been impressing Gregg Popovich thus far and he impressed the fantasy universe with tonight's dynamic line. He's going to be a part of the rotation but the only time he'll really be able to be relied upon are on nights when Tony Parker is in street clothes. And tonight was one of those nights, as Parker was out resting.
Patty Mills healthy, slimmed down for Spurs | 10/12/2013 12:33 PM
NewsPatty Mills lost weight this summer and has fully recovered from foot surgery, and his play has impressed Gregg Popovich.
San Antonio Express-News
ImpactMills is under 6'0" and he's not a natural playmaker, averaging just 1.1 assists and 0.7 turnovers last year. He is a solid scorer who knocked down 40.0 percent of his 3-pointers last year, however, and he should surface (at least occasionally) as part of the Spurs' competitive backcourt rotation.
Patty Mills healthy, OK to play for Australia | 07/23/2013 9:59 AM
NewsPatty Mills has recovered from the foot abscess he suffered in June, and he'll be available to play for the Australian national team this summer.
ImpactMills picked up his $1.1 million option to return with the Spurs next season, likely passing up more money to stay with a championship contender. He's an unlikely source of fantasy value, however, at least while Tony Parker is healthy.
Patty Mills opts in for 2013-14 with Spurs | 06/24/2013 3:45 PM
NewsPatty Mills has decided to remain with the Spurs next season, earning $1.1 million in the final year of his contract.
Paul Garcia on Twitter
ImpactThe lure of playing for a championship probably weighed in the Spurs' favor, and Mills gives them affordable insurance at PG in case Tony Parker or Cory Joseph get hurt. He's not relevant for fantasy purposes, however, as he played nothing but mop-up duty during the playoffs, and averaged 11 minutes per game in sporadic appearances last season.
Patty Mills out for Finals after foot surgery | 06/16/2013 5:28 PM
NewsPatty Mills will miss the rest of the Finals after surgery to remove an abscess in his right foot.
Paul Garcia on Twitter
ImpactMills has barely played in the postseason, though he made some cameos during garbage time in Games 2 & 3 vs. the Heat. With Mills out and Tony Parker playing on a slightly strained hamstring, a few more responsibilities shift to guards Gary Neal and Cory Joseph.
Mills scores 12 points off the bench | 03/02/2013 2:33 AM
NewsPatrick Mills scored 12 points off the bench in Friday's blowout win, hitting 5-of-7 shots (including two threes) with three rebounds and one assist in 14 minutes.
ImpactMills has been playing behind Nando De Colo (zero points, three assists, 12 minutes) in previous absences by Tony Parker (ankle), who will be out "awhile" according to Pop. On the other hand, we've seen some explosive outings from Mills in the past and he'll be a guy to watch when the Spurs play the Pistons on Sunday. Gary Neal (calf) did not play tonight, further confusing the issue of who Parker's beneficiary will be.
Patty Mills puts up 16 points off the bench | 02/25/2013 12:02 AM
NewsPatty Mills scored 16 points with two rebounds, one assist and one 3-pointer in 21 minutes against the Suns on Sunday.
ImpactHe scored 12 points in the month of February before this game and was given a bigger opportunity with Tony Parker (triceps) and Gary Neal (calf) out of the lineup. There's no reason to pick him up since either Parker or Neal should be back against the Suns on Sunday.
