JaVale McGee will have to compete for mins | 04/13/2014 1:32 PM
NewsNuggets coach Brian Shaw admitted on Saturday that JaVale McGee will have to battle Timofey Mozgov for the starting position next season.
Impact"I told JaVale even before he had season-ending surgery, `Timo's coming for you. It's not a given that anything is going to be handed to you when you come back.' " Shaw said. McGee was a wild disappointment this year, only making it through five games averaging 7.0 points, 3.4 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks. However, Mozgov put together a very impressive run to end his 2013-14 campaign, as he's averaged 17.4 points and 9.6 rebounds over the last seven games. With how often McGee finds himself "Shaqtin' a fool," it would be far from surprising to see Mozgov overtake McGee for the starting gig. But for now, this is just something to file away for next year's draft.
JaVale McGee has surgery, done for season | 02/20/2014 2:55 PM
NewsJaVale McGee had season-ending surgery Thursday to repair the stress fracture in his left tibia.
Ken Berger on Twitter
ImpactWith George Karl out of the way, McGee was fully expected to finally break out this season. It didn't come close to happening. Clearly bothered by his injury early on, he averaged just 7.0 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks through the first five games. Then he shut it down in hopes his leg would heal and he could come back healthy, but it didn't work out. Now McGee goes under the knife in the hopes of being fully healthy for 2014-15 training camp. He's still just 26 years old, but is running out of time to realize his potential as an athletic rim protector.
Decision on JaVale McGee expected by March 1 | 02/15/2014 3:04 PM
NewsThe Nuggets are expected to decide by March 1 whether JaVale McGee will require surgery to repair the stress fracture in his tibia.
ImpactMcGee has made "little progress" by resting for months and the idea of season-ending surgery to get him ready for training camp has gained steam. Even if he avoids surgery there are no guarantees that JaVale will play again this season, and this update solidifies the value of starting center J.J. Hickson and backup Timofey Mozgov.
JaVale McGee could miss remainder of season | 02/06/2014 12:10 PM
NewsJaVale McGee (stress fracture in tibia) could miss the rest of the season.
ImpactThis doesn't come as a huge surprised since McGee had been without a return timetable for months, but this latest report could add some finality to McGee's 2013-14 situation. While a finale decision won't be made for another few days, owners stashing McGee in hopes of a late-season return may have a free roster spot within the near future.
JaVale McGee (tibia) begins elliptical work | 01/21/2014 6:27 PM
NewsJaVale McGee (stress fracture in tibia) has begun doing limited work on an elliptical machine.
ImpactMcGee can't run on a treadmill or even ride a bike yet, and he emphasized that this is an "early step" in his rehab process, even though he's already been out since early November. "[The elliptical machine] doesn't put any pain on my shin because my foot is never leaving the platform," McGee said. "That's the only thing I can do." This isn't a very encouraging update for his rest-of-season outlook, but it's nice to at least have some information about his rehab.
JaVale McGee remains sidelined for DEN | 01/03/2014 12:28 PM
NewsJaVale McGee (leg) remains sidelined.
ImpactThere have been very few updates on the status of McGee since he was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his tibia way back in early November. The team continues to simply list him as "out" on their injury reports. McGee is simply waiting for his bone to heal and no one seems to know how long that will take. For now, all we know is that's he's not practicing, so a return is not near.
JaVale McGee (tibia) to have X-ray next week | 12/12/2013 6:47 PM
NewsJaVale McGee (fractured tibia) is scheduled for an X-ray in the next few weeks, to determine how much his bone has healed.
ImpactMcGee continues to rehab with bone stimulation and upper body workouts, but he has yet to test out his injured leg. "I'm just glad there was a reason why I was playing mediocre, I guess," he said. "So that's cool." J.J. Hickson is averaging 12.1 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Nuggets' starting center in McGee's absence, which will continue indefinitely.
JaVale McGee (leg) not close to returning | 12/05/2013 9:54 AM
NewsJaVale McGee (fractured tibia) hasn't begun any lower body activity and is a ways off from returning to the court.
ImpactMcGee can be a difference maker for his fantasy owners in the blocks category, but it's sounding like we won't be seeing any Dikembe Mutombo impersonations until at least early 2014. Chris Dempsey of the Denver Post spoke with McGee recently and added, "He's still on the bone stimulator machine, helping to heal a stress fracture. He's really not doing much of anything with his lower body right now. Just like with [Danilo Gallinari], he's not even begun running. Stress fractures can take weeks to heal; I probably wouldn't look for McGee until the end of the month or the New Year."
JaVale McGee dealt with discomfort a while | 11/11/2013 3:19 PM
NewsJaVale McGee (fractured tibia) said that he's dealt with discomfort in his leg since the end of last season.
Impact"It didn't come as a surprise," McGee said of his fractured leg. "I've been in pain since the end of last year. But it was unbearable to the point that it was affecting my play, so I decided to get an X-ray." He added that the X-ray suggests that his fracture has grown since last year. McGee is going through bone stimulation therapy and is just going to rest until the bone heals. He is out indefinitely and could be sidelined for an extended period of time.
JaVale McGee suffers stress fracture in leg | 11/10/2013 3:25 PM
NewsJaVale McGee was diagnosed with a stress fracture in his left tibia on Sunday and is out indefinitely.
Chris Dempsey on Twitter
ImpactThe fracture could keep him out for a while and he won't have a timetable to return. McGee was off to a slow start, playing in just 16.0 minutes per game for 7.0 points, 3.4 boards and 1.4 blocks. The Nuggets have been using guys like J.J. Hickson and Anthony Randolph at center with McGee not playing much, but Timofey Mozgov is the most likely to take over as the starting center. It's hard to get too attached to the idea of picking up Mozgov for his lack of talent, so Hickson and Randolph might be better pickups for now. It makes sense to cut McGee in most leagues.
Nuggets' poor effort has Shaw mulling options | 11/09/2013 2:25 PM
NewsNuggets coach Brian Shaw said he was disappointed with his team's "energy level" on Friday, and suggested that he'll bench players who don't play with maximum effort.
Impact"We're deep enough at a few positions where if some of the those guys aren't going to come with any energy then I'll just go down the bench, find the guys who want to play and their minutes and their opportunities will go down," Shaw said. Among the more conspicuous playing time allotments on Friday, JaVale McGee played only 12 minutes, Kenneth Faried played 20 minutes, Nate Robinson played seven minutes, and Anthony Randolph thrived in 32 minutes off the bench. With Wilson Chandler (hamstring) targeting a return on Monday and so many variables in play, fantasy owners should keep a close eye on Denver's roster.
McGee plays just 12 minutes against PHO | 11/09/2013 7:34 AM
NewsJaVale McGee hit rock bottom in Friday's loss to the Suns, playing just 12 minutes on his way to two points, three rebounds and one assist.
ImpactMcGee wasn't in any foul trouble and he didn't see the court after the nine-minute mark of the third quarter. It would be easier to rail on McGee about his disastrous start if the Nuggets didn't look so erratic as an organization right now. We can't see dropping McGee when he is supposed to be a part of the foundation in Denver, but his leash is going to get shorter by the day.
JaVale McGee scores 14 in 24 minutes | 11/07/2013 11:57 PM
NewsJaVale McGee played 24 minutes against the Hawks on Thursday, shooting 7-of-13 from the field for 14 points with three rebounds, one steal and two blocks.
ImpactThe minutes, field goal attempts and points were all season highs. McGee also didn't turn the ball over, which coach Brian Shaw likely appreciated after his five turnovers on Tuesday. He had his usual handful of bad shots tonight, but it's still an encouraging night. His patient owners shouldn't feel vindicated yet, but he's becoming a little less of a volatile asset in fantasy leagues.
Baby steps for JaVale McGee on Tuesday | 11/06/2013 1:29 AM
NewsJaVale McGee has yet to blow up this season and hit 4-of-11 shots for nine points, seven rebounds and two blocks in 21 minutes on Tuesday.
ImpactHe picked up five fouls, or he might have been much more productive tonight. The Nuggets have played just three games and McGee has five blocks, and has picked up at least four fouls in two of his three starts. He's off to a very slow start, but signs are there that he could be getting ready to pick it up, if he can stay out of foul trouble, as well as Brian Shaw's doghouse.
JaVale McGee has another bad night | 11/02/2013 2:51 AM
NewsJaVale McGee played just 13 minutes against the Blazers on Friday, scoring six points with three boards, one assist and one block on 3-of-6 shooting.
ImpactHe only had one foul and he was outplayed by teammate Timofey Mozgov. This is not the start his owners wanted to see and his 11.5 minutes per game is less than half his amount in the the preseason. McGee is one of the most inconsistent guys to own, but his upside should make his owners exercise some patience.
JaVale McGee plays just 10 minutes | 10/31/2013 2:56 AM
NewsJaVale McGee played just 10 minutes against the Kings on Wednesday and had only four points, one board and two blocks.
ImpactFoul trouble was the culprit here and he picked up two quick ones in the first 4:30 of the game, then picked up his third just a little over a minute upon his return to the game in the second quarter. Unlike ex-coach George Karl, evidence suggests that coach Brian Shaw is committed to McGee, so there's no reason to worry about tonight's dud.
JaVale McGee looks good so far in preseason | 10/11/2013 12:31 PM
NewsJaVale McGee made 8-of-8 free throws in the Nuggets' first two preseason games.
ImpactIt's too tiny of a sample size to mean anything long-term, but all signs have been positive for JaVale in training camp and the preseason. "We did get the ball to him inside and he was able to go to the line," said Brian Shaw. "He made a few nice moves in the post using his left hand, right hand, and he showed the ability to be able to knock down a 15-foot jump shot in rhythm. We just want to build his confidence up." It's hard to imagine a scenario in which McGee doesn't top his career-best numbers from 2011-12, when he averaged 11.9 points, 8.8 rebounds, 0.6 steals and 2.5 blocks in 27 minutes per game.
JaVale McGee has tests on lung capacity | 10/10/2013 7:19 PM
NewsJaVale McGee said he still has low lung capacity from asthma.
Impact"I've been trying to play out of it, out of my asthma," McGee said. "It's working so far." He added that he still believes he can be a 35 minutes-per-game guy. McGee didn't play more than 30 minutes in any game last season, but he played at least 33 minutes for four consecutive games back in February 2012, so he's capable of playing a lot. He saw 28 minutes of action on Tuesday and looks poised to have his best season as a pro.
JaVale McGee takes 13 shots in loss to Lakers | 10/09/2013 12:44 AM
NewsJaVale McGee shot 6-of-13 from the field in Tuesday's loss to the Lakers, finishing with 14 points, seven boards and three blocks in 28 minutes.
ImpactLast year, his season high for shots in a game was just 12, so coach Brian Shaw made good on his claim that he would try and get the ball in to McGee more. The Nuggets seem committed to him a lot more this year, so he could be a threat to score in the low teens while making a push for the blocking crown this year.
Shaw wants to get McGee the ball inside | 10/07/2013 10:27 AM
NewsCoach Brian Shaw said he wants to get the ball inside to JaVale McGee.
Impact"Definitely we want to play inside-out," Shaw said. "If he gets down the court and he's open, he has his man on his back, we want to throw the ball inside." Even though it was preseason, McGee did look more comfortable in the post on Sunday night. He finished with 12 points on 3-of-6 from the field and surprisingly made all six attempts from the line. The fun-loving center is on the short list of big men that could be in for a breakout season.
JaVale McGee planning to shoot jumpers | 09/12/2013 12:25 PM
NewsJaVale McGee will start at center for the Nuggets this season and looks like a big piece of the puzzle in Denver, and also says he plans to shoot it from the outside this season under new coach Brian Shaw.
Impact"I have a mid-range shot that I really never got to use my whole career in the NBA," McGee said. "Coach Karl didn't want his `bigs' shooting at all. [Defenses are] probably going to leave me open for the mid-range, so I definitely got to take that shot." This could lead to some hilarious stretches for McGee and we're just hoping this doesn't turn into a Josh Smith situation, where fans cringe every time he touches the ball outside of 10 feet. Either way, the hype machine is in full effect on McGee, who is either going to fully break out and be a top fantasy center, or end up being a major disappointment. We're leaning toward "fantasy star," and it appears to be now or never for the big man.
JaVale McGee may play big minutes as starter | 09/11/2013 11:47 AM
NewsNuggets play-by-play man Chris Marlowe suggests that JaVale McGee could average 35 minutes per game as the starting center this season.
ImpactEven if he doesn't reach the 35-minutes mark, due to foul trouble or some other reason, McGee is still primed for a big season. New coach Brian Shaw has a directive to play McGee, whose nearest competition for minutes comes from Timofey Mozgov and J.J. Hickson.
JaVale McGee expected to start for Nuggets | 06/28/2013 8:41 AM
NewsJaVale McGee is fully expected to take over as starter at center for the Nuggets following the departure of Kosta Koufos.
Marc Stein on Twitter
ImpactDenver management was not happy that McGee rode the bench last season, something that won't be the case this time around. McGee will start for this Nuggets team under Brian Shaw and has serious fantasy upside if he can average anywhere north of 30 minutes per game. Put him on your cheat sheet and don't forget about him on draft day.
New Nuggets GM expecting a lot from McGee | 06/20/2013 1:30 PM
NewsNew Nuggets GM Tim Connelly classified himself as a "big JaVale McGee fan," and said he expects "a lot" from him.
Nuggets on Twitter
ImpactThe jokes will written on their own, but Connelly's commitment to McGee is important to fantasy owners. After McGee was buried in a reserve role for all of last season, it sounds like he's got the inside track for a starter's job this year. He averaged 3.9 blocks per-36 minutes last season and would be a walking double-double threat in starter's minutes.
Nuggets want a coach that backs JaVale McGee | 06/07/2013 2:23 PM
NewsA source tells ESPN that one of the "primary issues" the Nuggets had with fired coach George Karl was his reluctance to play JaVale McGee.
ImpactOn the heels of a four-year, $44 million contract, McGee started zero games and played just 18.1 minutes per night. At one point, Karl said "lazy and crazy won't work" when it comes to the insanely athletic 7-footer. Now that Karl is out, McGee's fantasy arrow will be pointing straight up in 2013-14. The new coach will be told to give him true starter's minutes, which makes him a real threat to lead the league in blocks. JaVale averaged a league-leading 3.9 blocks per-36 minutes last season.
Report: Karl/Nuggets were split on McGee | 06/06/2013 12:41 PM
NewsThe Nuggets front office and George Karl were split on their opinion of JaVale McGee, and that contributed to his dismissal, sources told Fox Sports Florida.
Chris Tomasson on Twitter
ImpactDenver's front office handed McGee a four year deal worth more than $40 million in the offseason, but Karl used him like the Thunder used Hasheem Thabeet instead of starting him. Karl reportedly refused to start McGee and management also blamed him for losing the series against the Warriors. Additionally, management blamed Karl for playing Andre Miller too much and not properly developing Evan Fournier. There are some very real issues in the Denver front office right now.
Karl confirms McGee may start next season | 05/04/2013 7:43 PM
NewsGeorge Karl confirmed that he may start JaVale McGee at center next season.
ImpactMcGee started the final two games of the playoffs, averaging 9.5 points and 9.0 rebounds, and it has been reported that Nuggets GM Masai Ujiri felt there was a "lack of attention" given to McGee's development this year. "I know JaVale would like to start," Karl said after Game 6. "We'll push him to work hard this summer and get him to a position where that could be a possibility." Kosta Koufos and Anthony Randolph have guaranteed deals next year, while Timofey Mozgov has a $3.9 million qualifying offer, but McGee seems like the early favorite to start on opening night.
Karl praises McGee after productive start | 05/01/2013 9:13 AM
NewsGeorge Karl praised JaVale McGee for his play during Tuesday's Game 5 win over the Warriors.
ImpactMcGee had 10 points, eight boards, a steal and three blocks in just 20 minutes, but Karl made it clear that "our staters were the key tonight. I liked both JaVale and Kenneth in the first half." It's not clear if McGee will start Game 6, but going into a must-win scenario, it seems likely he will given the team won on Tuesday.
JaVale McGee starts in Denver win | 04/30/2013 10:57 PM
NewsJaVale McGee started at center instead of Kosta Koufos on Tuesday and had 10 points, eight rebounds, a steal and three blocks in 20 minutes.
ImpactIf McGee could wrangle the starting job from Koufos next season he'd likely be a solid fantasy center. However, we're still not sure George Karl is ready to go there.
Don't expect more minutes for JaVale McGee | 04/28/2013 9:38 AM
NewsGeorge Karl does not expect JaVale McGee's workload to suddenly increase.
Impact"Do I want to take a chance on giving them speed and size because they play small?" George Karl said. "When JaVale comes in the game, a lot of times they do go small. They don't mess with him. And so much of what I want from our bigs is pick-and-roll defense and rebounding. If JaVale gives me that, he'll stay on the court longer. If I think Kenneth (Faried) or Kosta (Koufos) is doing it better, they're going to be on the court. Anthony (Randolph) gets a chance, too." The Nuggets will continue to try and match up with the Warriors small ball lineup.
McGee goes for 10 and 17 with two blocks | 04/15/2013 11:14 PM
NewsJaVale McGee double-doubled with 10 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes off the bench on Monday.
ImpactMaybe this is the beginning of George Karl's playoff blueprint from last season, or maybe the explosion will be followed up by yet another disappearing act. Either way, after a line like this McGee is well worth a look if he's floating on your wire.
McGee scores 11 points with four blocks | 04/13/2013 2:30 AM
NewsJaVale McGee scored 11 points on 5-of-6 shooting with nine rebounds, one steal and four blocks in 28 minutes off the bench in Friday's overtime loss.
ImpactWe're not going to let one good night overshadow a year's worth of data on McGee, and owners can continue to use him as they were prior to tonight.
JaVale McGee quiets down after big night | 03/30/2013 2:38 AM
NewsJaVale McGee scored eight points on 4-of-7 shooting with four rebounds and one block in 17 minutes off the bench on Friday.
ImpactMcGee went big with 21 points, 11 boards, two steals and three blocks on Wednesday, but as you can see he didn't complete the breakout. We'll keep an eye on him, but he looks like the disappointing fantasy play he has been all season.
The good JaVale shows up on Wednesday | 03/28/2013 2:11 AM
NewsJaVale McGee was outstanding in a loss to the Spurs on Wednesday, shooting 10-of-11 from the field for 21 points with 11 boards, two steals and three blocks in 26 minutes.
ImpactIt was one of his best offense games all year and a nice cherry on top was that McGee made his only free throw attempt. Although, he played just 14.6 minutes per game in his previous 10 and chances are few of his owners in deep leagues didn't capitalize on the big line with 14 games tonight. They can just chalk that up to one of the most bad news-laden nights of the NBA season.
McGee goes for seven and seven vs. LAL | 02/26/2013 2:39 AM
NewsJaVale McGee scored seven points with seven rebounds, two steals and four blocks in 23 minutes off the bench on Monday.
ImpactTimofey Mozgov played four minutes and Kosta Koufos played 14 minutes, and it's possible we see McGee take that long-awaited step forward as the year closes down. He should be owned in most formats for his current production, but his upside is obviously what owners are chasing.
JaVale McGee excellent in just 17 minutes | 02/23/2013 11:09 PM
NewsJaVale McGee gave Denver a nice lift in Saturday's road win, scoring 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting, with six rebounds and three blocks.
ImpactHe did it all in just 17 minutes, teasing fantasy owners and reinforcing a season-long trend of excellent numbers in limited playing time. Kosta Koufos had eight points, six rebounds, one steal and two blocks in 22 minutes, and the concrete has set around the Nuggets' timeshare at center.
JaVale McGee returns to action for Nuggets | 02/14/2013 12:55 AM
NewsJaVale McGee returned from a leg injury and had 14 points and three rebounds, but zero blocks in 27 minutes on Wednesday.
ImpactIf McGee's not blocking shots, he has no fantasy value, and is a borderline starter even when he is blocking shots. This was just his eighth game of the season without one, but at least he saw solid minutes off the bench. He's averaging less than 19 minutes per game on the season, and unless that number rises dramatically after the break, he's going to continue to be very frustrating to own.
JaVale McGee to play for Nuggets Wednesday | 02/13/2013 7:57 PM
NewsJaVale McGee will play for the Nuggets on Wednesday despite a leg injury that kept him out of Tuesday's game.
ImpactThe Nuggets are undermanned without Danilo Gallinari and Andre Iguodala, and McGee's return will probably limit Anthony Randolph, who played well on Tuesday.
JaVale McGee aggravates tibia injury | 02/12/2013 10:07 PM
NewsJaVale McGee aggravated his left tibia injury in Tuesday's game against the Raptors and he is listed as day-to-day.
Benjamin Hochman on Twitter
ImpactHe missed three games about two weeks ago with a contusion to his tibia, but X-rays were negative. The Nuggets will likely evaluate him in the coming days and his status for Wednesday's game against the Nets is in doubt. Kosta Koufos could pick up some more playing time along with Timofey Mozgov. McGee finished with two points and one board in Tuesday's contest.
JaVale McGee grabs 16 boards in 32 minutes | 02/10/2013 10:48 PM
NewsPlaying 32 minutes off the bench on Sunday, JaVale McGee scored five points, grabbed a season-high 16 rebounds, and blocked three shots.
ImpactAs with every performance from this game, it must be noted that there were three overtimes. Still, JaVale got more burn than Kosta Koufos (eight points, two boards in 19 minutes) and he's been very good in limited minutes recently. He's averaging 3.5 blocks in his past four games and remains a tantalizing player to stash at the end of your bench.
JaVale McGee scores 13 pts w/ four blocks | 02/09/2013 11:27 PM
NewsJaVale McGee played 18 minutes vs. the Cavaliers but he still racked up 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting, four rebounds and four blocks.
ImpactIf you toss out the games JaVale missed with a shin injury he's been great in his last five, averaging 10.6 points on 71 percent shooting, 3.8 rebounds and 3.2 blocks, all in a mere 16.2 minutes per game. Unfortunately, Kosta Koufos also had 10 points and nine rebounds in 17 minutes tonight, and there are no signs that McGee will suddenly win this entrenched position battle.
McGee gets scores 10 in 14 minutes | 02/08/2013 2:23 AM
NewsJaVale McGee scored 10 points with five boards and three blocks in just 14 minutes against the Bulls on Thursday.
ImpactHe's one of the most exciting players to watch that plays less than 20 minutes per game and tonight was no different with some highlight-reel plays. McGee has also looked good in his two games back from a shin injury with a combined seven blocks. George Karl doesn't seem to be close to turning him loose and he's in a timeshare with Kosta Koufos (four points and seven boards in 21 minutes), so he's not exactly must-own material.
JaVale McGee returns from shin injury | 02/06/2013 12:56 AM
NewsJaVale McGee returned from his shin injury and had eight points, four rebounds and four blocks in 18 minutes of Tuesday's win over the Bucks.
ImpactMore of the same for McGee, who is good for blocks, but too inconsistent in the rest of his game to be an automatic starter for fantasy owners.
JaVale McGee (shin) will play Tuesday | 02/05/2013 9:46 PM
NewsJaVale McGee (shin) will play against the Bucks on Tuesday.
Jason Kosmicki on Twitter
ImpactHe's missed three games with a bruised shin and it's unclear how many minutes he'll receive in his first game back. McGee has played just 18.7 minutes per game this season and he's clinging to life in standard leagues. Kosta Koufos will continue to start and currently has more value in most formats.
JaVale McGee (shin) ready to return to action | 02/04/2013 10:11 AM
NewsJaVale McGee (shin) is expected to return to action on Tuesday.
Impact"I'm still in shape. I was working on the treadmill, so I'm feeling pretty good," McGee said. McGee's return will push Timofey Mozgov back to the end of the bench and will also mean starter Kosta Koufos plays fewer minutes.
JaVale McGee won't play Friday | 02/01/2013 3:09 PM
NewsJaVale McGee (shin) will not play in Friday's game against the Hornets.
Chris Dempsey on Twitter
ImpactMcGee has essentially been diagnosed with a bad bruise of his tibia, leaving him day-to-day going forward. With JaVale out the last two games, Kosta Koufos has averaged 7.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks.
JaVale McGee questionable Friday vs. Hornets | 01/31/2013 4:52 PM
NewsJaVale McGee (shin) is questionable for Friday's game against the Hornets.

ImpactMcGee has missed the last two games but an MRI revealed no stress fracture in his left tibia. Meanwhile, Kosta Koufos continues to perform well in the full-time center role and is a solid option as long as McGee is sidelined. Owners will want to check back after shootaround Friday for further update on JaVale's status.

NewsJaVale McGee (shin) will not play against the Rockets on Wednesday.

ImpactStarter Kosta Koufos played 36 minutes in the Nuggets last game, totalling nine points, 11 rebounds and three blocks in extended action. He's a solid option again vs. the Rockets for those in need of a big man with McGee sidelined.

NewsAn MRI on JaVale McGee's left tibia revealed no stress fracture.

ImpactMcGee is officially listed as questionable for Wednesday's game against the Rockets. Even if he does play, he'll be a shaky fantasy start at less than 100 percent. McGee is averaging just 17.7 minutes per game over his last 13 outings.
Nuggets still waiting for results on McGee | 01/29/2013 4:23 PM
NewsThe Nuggets are still awaiting the results of JaVale McGee's shin MRI.

ImpactMcGee may have beginnings of a stress fracture. The treatment for that condition is usually rest, so owners need to be prepared to hunt for other short-term shot-blocking specialists. If McGee does end up missing time, Kosta Koufos is to push for 32-35 minutes nighty.
JaVale McGee could have stress fracture | 01/29/2013 9:22 AM
NewsJaVale McGee (shin) underwent a CT scan recently "to determine whether a stress fracture was the source of the problem," but results were inconclusive.
ImpactMcGee will have an MRI on Tuesday and doctors will review both exams before formulating a diagnosis. If McGee is sidelined for an extended period of time, Kosta Koufos would see more minutes in his starting role while Timofey Mozgov would suddenly become very important off of Denver's bench.
McGee (leg) out on Monday vs. Pacers | 01/28/2013 8:28 PM
NewsJaVale McGee (tibia) will not play on Monday against the Pacers.
Ben Hochman on Twitter
ImpactIt's being called "left tibia irritation" and he will get an MRI on Tuesday. Look for Kosta Koufos to get all the minutes he can handle and Timofey Mozgov to step into the backup minutes. Koufos should be owned in most standard formats.
Karl on JaVale: Lazy and crazy will not work | 01/22/2013 3:40 PM
NewsCoach George Karl recently said he'd "like" to get JaVale McGee to be a 25-minute per-game player.
ImpactMcGee's playing time has actually been decreasing lately, not increasing. Over his last seven games, he's getting just 17.1 minutes a night. "He's got to understand that lazy and crazy isn't going to make it work," Karl said. "We want solid and we want fundamental, and we want spectacular but only when it happens, not forcing the action where sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't." McGee still has a little fantasy value thanks to his 1.9 blocks per game, but owners expecting a sudden bump in playing time have another thing coming. He doesn't sound close to that 25-minute goal Karl has set -- especially with Kosta Koufos continuing to play well.
JaVale McGee scores 15 with three blocks | 01/17/2013 12:39 AM
NewsJaVale McGee scored 15 points with four rebounds and three blocks in 20 minutes against the Thunder on Wednesday.
ImpactAmazingly, he made all five of his free throws and also shot 5-of-6 from the field. McGee is playing better these days, but Kosta Koufos turning some heads, he's staring at a timeshare. He's more of a stash and he'll have his flashes here and there, too.
McGee struggles on Friday | 01/12/2013 2:57 AM
NewsJaVale McGee missed all four of his field goal attempts and hit 2-of-4 free throws to finish with two points, seven rebounds, and three blocks in 12 minutes.
ImpactIt's been an ugly season and it's fair to call him a bust so far, though he has been blocking shots and holding low-end value in his miniscule role off the bench. His scoring was down tonight as you can see, but his overall value to owners as a stash hasn't changed at all.
JaVale McGee torches Lakers, yet again | 01/07/2013 1:54 AM
NewsJaVale McGee gave the Lakers flashbacks to last year's playoffs on Sunday, scoring 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting, with six rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
ImpactGeorge Karl still only played him 26 minutes, less than starter Kosta Koufos (seven points, seven rebounds in 28 minutes), and for every nice game this season McGee has had two clunkers. His 3-of-7 FT shooting on Sunday was a nice reminder of his sweet-and-sour fantasy appeal.
McGee has a terrible game on Thursday | 01/04/2013 1:10 AM
NewsJaVale McGee had a bad game on Thursday, shooting 1-of-7 from the field for two points with four boards and two blocks in 13 minutes.
ImpactJust when it looked like he was getting ready to turn the corner, he comes out with arguably his worst game of the year. McGee is on the short list of most annoying players to own, but the upside is the primary reason why we'd try to stick with him in standard leagues.
JaVale McGee hits a 3-pointer on Tuesday | 01/02/2013 1:05 AM
NewsJaVale McGee hit the first 3-pointer of his career to go with 11 points, seven boards, three assists and one block in 17 minutes against the Clippers on Tuesday.
ImpactIt's his second nice game in a row, coming off a 12-point, six-block game on Saturday. McGee hasn't been much fun to own since he's playing just 19.1 minutes per game, but the upside is there and he's blocking enough shots to be owned in most formats.
