|Assets:||'Rip' is a superb mid-range scorer: quick, smart, smooth, and gets separation. Consistently beats defenders who overplay him by going hard to the hoop. Hits for high percentages (from the field and freebie line) and is a very good passer who can play some point guard.|
|Flaws:||Has always lacked muscle mass, and is wearing down with age. Can be streaky from beyond the arc. While a solid on-ball defender he's not a big ball thief or rebounder.|
|Career Potential:||Aging star shooting guard.|

Report: Rip Hamilton contacted by seven teams | 10/29/2013 3:24 PM
NewsRip Hamilton has reportedly been contacted by at least seven teams, but he's not expected to sign with a team until the "midway point of the season."
Fox Sports Ohio
ImpactHe shot just 42.9 percent from the field in 50 games with the Bulls last season. At this stage of his career he's a dubious fantasy option no matter where he lands.
Wolves may be looking at Rip Hamilton | 10/16/2013 7:13 PM
NewsThe Timberwolves are reportedly working the phones trying to sign a wing player and one name that has surfaced is Rip Hamilton, according to Darren Wolfson.

ImpactHamilton isn't likely to offer much fantasy value regardless of where he ends up, but he could be a nice piece for the young Wolves.
Rip Hamilton says he has 'several choices' | 07/20/2013 9:51 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton tweeted Saturday morning that he has "several choices" in free agency.

ImpactThe Bulls waived Hamilton a little over a week ago in a widely-expected move. There was in Chicago for Hamilton considering the presence of Jimmy Butler and the addition of Mike Dunleavy. Hamilton didn't specify which teams he was choosing between, but we're not surprised there are a couple squads willing to give the 35-year old a shot.
Bulls officially waive Richard Hamilton | 07/10/2013 7:47 PM
NewsBulls waive G/F Richard Hamilton.
ImpactHe had virtually no chance to remain on the team. The Bulls have already brought on Mike Dunleavy, and Jimmy Butler was one of the most improved players in the second half of last season. Hamilton's minutes dropped to just 21.8 per game last season, which is a far cry from his career average of 32.1. A few teams should be willing to give the 35-year-old guard a shot on a short-term contract.

Report: Bulls shopping Richard Hamilton again | 06/26/2013 11:22 AM
NewsThe Bulls are again unsuccessfully shopping Richard Hamilton.
ImpactHamilton has a $5 million commitment next season, but the Bulls can buy him out for $1 million if done before July 10, a likely scenario considering Hamilton's stock around the league. He's dealt with serious injury issues during his Bulls tenure and seems likely to be playing elsewhere next year.
Bulls expected to buy out Richard Hamilton | 05/16/2013 5:17 PM
NewsThe Bulls are expected to buy out the final year of Richard Hamilton's contract for $1 million, according to K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune.
ImpactChicago's other option is a $5 million salary in 2013-14 for a 35-year old who earned DNP-CDs in all but four of the Bulls' playoff games. It's not a surprise which way the Bulls are leaning. Mark this one in the category of the best scenario for both sides. Hamilton will try to find a job as a veteran shooter off the bench while the Bulls will look for some more consistency from perimeter, possibly in the form of free agent Kyle Korver.
Richard Hamilton still complaining about PT | 05/16/2013 9:09 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton reiterated that he was "dumbfounded" by his lack of playing time in the playoffs.
ImpactHamilton played 35.5 minutes in Game 5 on Wednesday and 22 minutes in Game 4, but he saw just 10 minutes combined prior to those two games in the postseason. "They kept me positive," Hamilton said. Referring specifically to Game 5, Hamilton said "it's crazy because playing 19 straight minutes, I haven't done that all season. Playing in the fourth quarter, I haven't done that all season." Expect the Bulls to buy him out for $1 million rather than picking up his $5 million option for next year.
Richard Hamilton reiterates his health fine | 05/14/2013 9:08 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton reiterated that his health is fine, and the decision to drop him out of the rotation was Tom Thibodeau's.
K.C. Johnson on Twitter
Impact"A lot of stuff in life you don't understand. This is what I was brought here for. To not play and not help my teammates is rough," he said. "I try to stay positive and not rock the boat." Hamilton had 11 points and four assists in 22 minutes in the Game 4 blowout loss.
Richard Hamilton not happy with being benched | 05/09/2013 10:07 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton admitted he's not happy about being glued to the bench.
ImpactHamilton hasn't played a single second in round two and saw just garbage time in the first round. "It's hard. I have to be honest," he said. "Just try to be as positive and give them advice from all the stuff that I know about the playoffs," he added. Hamilton's deal calls for a team option for next season or a $1 million buyout, and we'd suspect that the buyout is in the best interest of both parties. The veteran hopes to play for at least two more seasons, but his time in Chicago is likely over after this season ends.
Richard Hamilton still working way back | 04/23/2013 8:08 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton, who played only seven minutes in Game 1 and did not play in Game 2, is still working his way back from his back injury.
Impact"He missed a chunk of the season down the stretch," Thibodeau said. "And then we tried to get him some games at the end just so he can get his rhythm back. A big part of it is his game is that. It's the timing and rhythm or catch and shoot. We just have to be patient and as time goes on we get healthier." Hamilton is unlikely to be a major factor during the postseason and Jimmy Butler is locked in as the starting shooting guard.
Hamilton returns to action after suspension | 04/15/2013 10:33 PM
NewsRichard Hamilton returned from his one-game suspension for throwing an elbow in Friday's game, playing 13 minutes on his way to two points and one assist on Monday.
ImpactUnless a very clear path to minutes presents itself for the finale, owners can shut the book on Hamilton's invisible fantasy season.
Rip Hamilton suspended for Sunday's game | 04/13/2013 9:18 PM
NewsRip Hamilton has been suspended one game for throwing an elbow at DeMar DeRozan on Friday.
Mike McGraw on Twitter
ImpactHe will sit out Sunday's game at Miami, but he should be in uniform vs. the Magic on Monday and the Wizards on Wednesday. He's playing through a bulging disc in his back and a game off isn't the worst thing for his health. His minutes will be absorbed by Jimmy Butler, Kirk Hinrich, Nate Robinson and Marco Belinelli.
Richard Hamilton not pleased with flagrant-2 | 04/13/2013 11:11 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton doesn't think he should've been ejected for elbowing DeMar DeRozan during Friday night's game.
ImpactHamilton was handed a flagrant-2 foul and ejected midway through the third quarter. "I probably deserved an offensive foul, but they could have called a foul first on him for bumping me. ... I believe that was nowhere near worthy of an ejection," Hamilton said after the game. Hamilton, who's likely on somewhat of a minutes count, ended up playing just 15 minutes.
Rip Hamilton ejected for flagrant-2 foul | 04/12/2013 8:59 PM
NewsRichard Hamilton received a flagrant-2 foul in Friday's game and was ejected.
ImpactHe gave DeMar DeRozan an elbow and the refs opted to go with a flagrant-2. Hamilton was probably going to be on a minutes limit in the second game of a back-to-back, so it's kind of a blessing in disguise as long as he doesn't get fined. Rip finished with seven points in 15 minutes vs. the Raptors.
Richard Hamilton's back injury a bulging disc | 04/12/2013 9:27 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton's back injury has been revealed to be a bulging disc.
ImpactNow we finally know why Hamilton was sidelined with a mysterious back injury for nearly two months, and it makes a lot more sense now. Fortunately for the Bulls he's able to play through it right now, but it could flare up at any time and force him out of action with the postseason looming.
Rip Hamilton scores 14 off the bench | 04/11/2013 11:51 PM
NewsRichard Hamilton had his biggest contribution to the Bulls in two months, scoring 14 points with three boards, eight assists, one steal and one 3-pointer in 26 minutes on Thursday.
ImpactHe made his first triple since January 26 and this line was a mild shock considering he scored just four points in 14 minutes on Tuesday. Hamilton is very unlikely to have a repeat performance the rest of the way, but the Bulls have to be pleased with his showing tonight.
Rip Hamilton (back) feeling good after return | 04/10/2013 9:09 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton confirmed that he felt good after returning from his back injury on Tuesday.
ImpactIt was the first time Hamilton took contact since he was sidelined in late February, so it's a positive sign he didn't have any issues. "My conditioning won't be a problem," he said. "It's just timing and rhythm." His playing time will gradually increase but the Bulls will do everything necessary to keep him fresh for the playoffs.
Rip Hamilton scores four in return to action | 04/10/2013 12:30 AM
NewsRip Hamilton returned from a back injury and had four points in 14 minutes on Tuesday.
ImpactThe Bulls are simply trying to get him some run before the playoffs, but just because he's back in action doesn't mean he should be in most fantasy lineups.
Surprise: Rip to play limited minutes Tuesday | 04/09/2013 6:44 PM
NewsUpdating a previous item, Richard Hamilton will make his return in Tuesday's game against the Raptors.
Nick Friedell on Twitter
ImpactIt will be Hamilton's first game since Feb. 26. He'll be eased in for limited minutes, likely around 15 at most. Even before going down, Rip was averaging just 10.2 points, 2.4 assists and 1.8 rebounds. He's not worth an add in fantasy formats.
Rip Hamilton out again on Tuesday night | 04/09/2013 12:11 PM
NewsRichard Hamilton (back) will not play on Tuesday.
K.C. Johnson on Twitter
ImpactHamilton is reportedly eyeing a return before the regular season ends, but he's simply running out of time, and the veteran hasn't played since February 26. Marco Belinelli and Jimmy Butler will get all of the run they can handle.
Richard Hamilton remains out indefinitely | 04/04/2013 9:27 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton (back) remains out indefinitely.
ImpactNot a surprise here, but it's looking less and less likely Rip will be able to return during the regular season. With Marco Belinelli (abdomen) still hurting, Jimmy Butler is locked into a huge role right now. As the starting SG, Butler is averaging 14 points, 5.4 boards, 3.4 assists, 2.4 steals, 0/8 blocks and 1.4 triples. Most importantly, he's averaging 42.5 minutes in those starts.
Rip Hamilton optimistic he'll play again | 03/28/2013 11:12 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton (back) "sounded optimistic" he'd be able to return for the end of the regular season.
K.C. Johnson on Twitter
ImpactHamilton reported improvement in his back which has kept him out of action since February 26, but it's still not clear when he'll be back on the floor. With Marco Belinelli nursing an abdominal strain, Jimmy Butler is locked into major minutes at shooting guard with both Hamilton and Belinelli on the shelf.
Richard Hamilton shoots, doesn't practice | 03/26/2013 1:41 PM
NewsRichard Hamilton (back) "did more shooting" on Tuesday, but he did not practice.
K.C. Johnson on Twitter
ImpactHamilton remains out indefinitely until further notice and the Bulls still have not dismissed the possibility that he'll be out for the remainder of the regular season. If Marco Belinelli (abdomen) can't play on Wednesday against the Heat, Jimmy Butler should draw another start at shooting guard.
Richard Hamilton (back) not making progress | 03/22/2013 8:52 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton is not making progress from his back injury and remains out indefinitely.
ImpactMarco Belinelli has been starting in place of Hamilton and is averaging 14 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.6 3-pointers, and although the numbers are solid, Belinelli in the starting five weakens the bench considerably. Jimmy Butler has also played at least 27 minutes in each of his last three games, so it's possible Tom Thibodeau is bracing for Hamilton to be out for an extended period of time. When asked of Hamilton's injury, Thibodeau replied, "it's not clearing up right now, so we have to wait."
Richard Hamilton could be out for the season | 03/19/2013 8:28 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton (back) could be out for the remainder of the season.
ImpactWe're marking him as "out indefinitely" until further notice, and Marco Belinelli will continue to play major minutes at shooting guard while Hamilton is sidelined. Tom Thibdoeau said Hamilton's status "is an unknown" the rest of the way, and added that the Bulls will "just have to wait and see." Considering Hamilton hasn't played since February 26, Belinelli should be owned in all formats.
Richard Hamilton will not play again Monday | 03/18/2013 12:21 PM
NewsRichard Hamilton (back) will not play on Monday.
K.C. Johnson on Twitter
ImpactHamilton is still listed as day-to-day, but it's not clear what kind of timetable he's working with given he hasn't played since February 26. Marco Belinelli will continue to start at shooting guard, where he's averaging 14.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.1 steals and 1.8 3-pointers.

ImpactHamilton won't travel with the team on their upcoming road trip that ends Friday against Golden State. Marco Belinelli will continue to see more time as long as Hamilton is out. The Italian guard has put together three straight games of at least 20 points, including Friday night's 22-point, four-rebound, three-assist performance that included a trio of 3-pointers.

ImpactThe Bulls play at the Lakers on Sunday, at the Kings Wednesday and in Golden State Friday. It's a chance for a recently-hot Marco Belinelli to continue to spread his wings. While starting the last four games, he's averaged 13.5 points, 4.5 assists and 2.0 3-pointers a night.
Rip Hamilton will not play again on Friday | 03/08/2013 12:16 PM
NewsRichard Hamilton (back) will not play on Friday.
ImpactHamilton's bad back will keep him out of his fifth straight game. Marco Belinelli has been playing exceptionally well while filling in for Hamilton recently, and he's averaging 14.9 points, 1.1 steals and 1.8 triples as the starting shooting guard. Taj Gibson (knee) remains sidelined as well.

ImpactThe Bulls play at San Antonio Wednesday before returning home for one game, and then the team hits the road for three straight games. NewsRichard Hamilton (back spasms) will not play against the Pistons on Saturday night.

ImpactHamilton sat out Thursday's game with the same ailment, which hadn't bothered the fragile swingman before during his 10-year NBA career. There's still no reason to think the injury is serious, but Hamilton's fantasy value is barely relevant when he's healthy. Marco Belinelli, who struggled in Hamilton's place Thursday, will likely get the call again tonight and remains an intriguing short-term pickup.
Richard Hamilton (back) out for Thursday | 02/28/2013 8:52 PM
NewsRichard Hamilton will not play against the Sixers on Thursday due to back spasms.
K.C. Johnson on Twitter
ImpactThe 35-year-old swingman hasn't missed any games in the past 10 years due to back spasms, but his overall durability is among the worst in the league. Marco Belinelli will start and should have a fairly productive evening based on his averages 15.3 points, 1.7 triples and 1.3 steals in his 12 starts this year. Rip doesn't have much upside even when he's healthy and isn't on the radar in standard leagues. If more ominous news comes down about Hamilton, Belinelli would make for an intriguing short-term pickup.
Report: Bulls willing to move Rip Hamilton | 02/21/2013 11:52 AM
NewsThe Bulls are "trying hard" to trade Richard Hamilton, sources told Yahoo! Sports, but the team does not want to include a draft pick in order to make a deal.
Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter
ImpactThis goes against a previous report from ESPN Chicago, but Rip's name is in trade rumors routinely. If Hamilton were to be shipped out, it could open an avenue for Jimmy Butler to regain appeal to fantasy owners.
Rip Hamilton plays just 17 minutes in win | 02/20/2013 1:02 AM
NewsRip Hamilton started and played just 17 minutes on Tuesday, finishing with just seven points and three assists.
ImpactJimmy Butler played 24 minutes off the bench and had nine points and a 3-pointer, while Marco Belinelli played 20 minutes to finish with nine points, four assists and a 3-pointer of his own. All three of these guys are going to split time at shooting guard, but if Hamilton's traded, Butler or Belinelli would likely be inserted into the starting five. Stay tuned.
Report: Bulls open to moving Richard Hamilton | 02/19/2013 10:14 AM
NewsThe Bulls are "open" to trading Richard Hamilton "in a deal that makes sense" and saves the Bulls money.
ImpactThat same description could be used for a number of players rumored to be on the trade market, and Hamilton's name has been mentioned in trade rumors throughout his tenure in Chicago. Unless it's an offer the Bulls can't refuse, Chicago is likely to stand pat as the club is hard capped at $74 million.
Richard Hamilton scores 16 points in loss | 02/12/2013 1:15 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton hit 8-of-11 shots for 16 points and one assist in 27 minutes on Monday.
ImpactRip played well tonight and this was the first time he played more than 19 minutes in four games, while he had scored a total of eight points in his previous two games. His emergence tonight did more to hurt Marco Belinelli, who had just six points in 19 minutes, and we're still not sold on Rip being a player to target in fantasy leagues right now.
Richard Hamilton scores 20 in win | 01/19/2013 12:48 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton scored 20 points with one 3-pointer and a whopping seven turnovers in 33 minutes against the Celtics on Friday.
ImpactIn his last six games combined, he only had four turnover and Rip didn't even a single board or assist in the game. He doesn't have much upside with only 0.4 triples per game and splitting time with Marco Belinelli. Belinelli hit the game winner and scored 10 points in 21 minutes. These two cancel each other out in standard leagues.
Richard Hamilton still on a minutes limit | 01/18/2013 10:22 AM
NewsRichard Hamilton continues to be on a minutes limit.
Impact"I'm watching his minutes," Tom Thibodeau said. It's a smart move by Thibs to keep the oft-injured veteran in the lineup, and there is no reason to push him at this point in the season.
Rip Hamilton scores 15 in 18 minutes | 01/16/2013 11:17 PM
NewsRip Hamilton had 15 points, five assists and two 3-pointers on 6-of-9 shooting in Wednesday's overtime win.
ImpactHe'll need a lot more minutes to be worth a look in fantasy, but he should eventually be turned loose as he continues to improve after his painful foot injury.
Rip Hamilson scores 12 pts in limited minutes | 01/12/2013 11:54 PM
NewsRip Hamilton scored 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting in Saturday's defeat.

Report: Rip Hamilton unlikely to be traded | 01/11/2013 9:55 AM
NewsIt is "unlikely" Richard Hamilton will be traded before the February 21 deadline, according to the Chicago Tribune.
ImpactHamilton's name had surfaced in trade rumors previously, but this is the second straight report that denies the veteran is on the block. However, the Bulls are reportedly "unlikely" to exercise his contract option for next season.
Report: Bulls not shopping Richard Hamilton | 01/09/2013 8:58 AM
NewsGM Gar Forman denied that Richard Hamilton was on the trade block.
Impact"No, no, Rip is a big part of what we're doing," he said. Tom Thibodeau has made it clear that he values Hamilton's leadership on the floor and intends to limit his minutes in order to keep him fresh, but Hamilton's name will probably continue to surface in trade rumors despite the team indicating that he's staying put.
