Emeka Okafor could become trade centerpiece | 02/04/2014 11:34 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor (herniated disk) could be the centerpiece of the rumored Pau Gasol trade between the Lakers and Suns.
ImpactOkafor may not see the court this season, but his contract could play a large part in the Suns acquiring Pau Gasol. In the rumored swap, the Lakers would take on Okafor's expiring $14.5 million contract in exchange for Gasol as they attempt to gain some salary relief. Fantasy owners don't need to concern themselves with what happens to Okafor, but he could still play a part in what might be the biggest trade before the deadline.
Report: Emeka Okafor may be out 3+ months | 10/26/2013 9:35 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor's herniated disk is "much more severe than initially anticipated," according to J. Michael of CSNWashington.com, and he "might be on the court again within three months."
ImpactOkafor's indefinite timetable to return was a key factor in the Wizards' decision to trade him along with a future No. 1 pick for Marcin Gortat and three other players whom Washington will waive. The Suns are more interested in developing Alex Len and Miles Plumlee than they are in seeing Okafor on the court, and he shouldn't be drafted in any fantasy leagues.
Emeka Okafor headed to Phoenix | 10/25/2013 5:43 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor has been traded to the Suns, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.
Marc Stein on Twitter
ImpactHe is out indefinitely with an injury to his neck and the Suns got him to make the numbers work financially. Okafor is going to be an unrestricted free agent this year and the Suns aren't likely to keep him. He's not worth drafting considering his lack of a timetable.
Emeka Okafor travels back to New York | 10/07/2013 10:12 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor (neck) is not with the team and traveled back to New York.
ImpactHe's under supervision of a neck specialist in New York and doesn't appear close to a return. Okafor is out indefinitely and is not worth owning in most fantasy leagues until there is some sort of timetable for a return.
Okafor 'optimistic' he won't need surgery | 09/18/2013 5:50 PM
NewsUpdating a previous item, Emeka Okafor (neck) is "optimistic" that he won't need surgery on his herniated C4 disk.
Wizards on Twitter
ImpactHe will try and rehab the injury and said he has no timetable for a return. Okafor is planning on doing manual manipulation and spine exercises while remaining hopeful to play this season. He isn't worth drafting with this news and Kevin Seraphin moves up as a target in standard drafts.
Emeka Okafor out indefinitely with neck issue | 09/18/2013 2:14 PM
NewsThe Wizards announced that Emeka Okafor (neck) is out indefinitely with a spine injury.
ImpactAn MRI revealed that he has a herniated C4 disc, which is located in the lower part of the neck. Okafor could miss time in the regular season and he said the Wizards are still hopeful to make the playoffs. Injuries to the spine can be tricky to put a prognosis on, so we're not going to speculate. Kevin Seraphin could have a chance to rebound from his sub-par 2012-13 and will be worth drafting late.
Emeka Okafor will not play in season finale | 04/17/2013 12:18 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor (ankle) will not play in the season finale vs. Chicago on Wednesday.
Michael Lee on Twitter
ImpactWith Nene already out, it should be prime time for Kevin Seraphin to do his thing against Chicago in the final game of the year. Seraphin had 17 points, seven boards and a blockin 26 minutes on Monday.
Emeka Okafor plays 22 minutes vs. Knicks | 04/09/2013 11:40 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor (shoulder) played 22 minutes against the Knicks on Tuesday, scoring four points with eight boards and one assist.
ImpactHe suffered a shoulder sprain on Sunday and didn't miss any games. Okafor's numbers have come down a bit, but he should have better luck against the Heat on Wednesday.
Okafor (shoulder) should be ready Tuesday | 04/08/2013 5:58 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor (sprained shoulder) is reportedly "fine" and should be ready to face the Knicks on Tuesday.
ImpactOkafor suffered a "mild sprain" but he didn't even need medical testing on Monday, which is an encouraging sign. The Wizards are in 10th place with no chance of making the playoffs, but they've been playing like the championship is at stake, so presumably Okafor won't be rested as a precaution.
Okafor goes for 17 and eight vs. Raptors | 04/03/2013 9:47 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor scored 17 points on 8-of-16 shooting with eight rebounds, one steal and one block in Wednesday's loss to the Raptors.
ImpactOkafor's shooting depresses his value but he has been a solid low-end asset for most of the year.
Emeka Okafor has no plans to opt out of deal | 04/02/2013 10:22 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor plans on remaining with the Wizards next season.
ImpactOkafor is due nearly $14.5M next season if he doesn't opt out of his contract, and he'll never command that annual salary as a free agent. "My plan is to be here next year," he said. It would be a surprise to see Okafor walk away from that salary.
Okafor has 19 & 10 for short-handed Wizards | 03/31/2013 9:24 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor had 19 points, 10 rebounds and one steal for his ? double-double of the season on Saturday.
ImpactNene missed another game with his knee injury, and Kevin Seraphin (13 points) racked up five fouls in 19 minutes, which left Okafor alone to anchor the Wizards' frontcourt. He made 7-of-14 FGs and 5-of-7 FTs in 27 minutes, while navigating his own foul problems, and he remains a low-end option.
Emeka Okafor scores 21 points vs. Memphis | 03/25/2013 10:36 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor shot 9-of-15 from the field for 21 points with nine boards in 31 minutes against the Grizzlies on Monday.
ImpactHe wasn't himself in his return from the flu on Saturday and it was nice to see him turn in a nice outing against one of the better defenses in the NBA. Of course, Marc Gasol not playing certainly helped, but Okafor appears to be back and should be owned in all standard leagues.
Emeka Okafor (flu) quiet in return to action | 03/24/2013 1:35 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor (flu) returned on Saturday with seven points, five rebounds and one steal, logging 23 minutes as the starting center.
ImpactKevin Seraphin had four points and six rebounds in 24 minutes, part of an effective second-unit attack, and Okafor wasn't the only starter whose minutes suffered as a result. The good news is that he's healthy heading into Washington's four-game week.
Emeka Okafor will return from Saturday | 03/23/2013 8:05 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor will return from the flu for Saturday's game against the Warriors.
Wizards on Twitter
ImpactHe missed Wednesday and Friday with the illness, so hopefully he be close to 100 percent. Kevin Seraphin had a nice little run, but he can be cut and Okafor should be owned in standard leagues.
Emeka Okafor will not play Friday vs. LAL | 03/22/2013 10:15 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor (flu) will not play against the Lakers on Friday.
Michael Lee on Twitter
ImpactHe missed Wednesday's game against the Suns with the flu and it looks like he's got a bad case of it. Kevin Seraphin stepped it up on Wednesday with 16 points in 30 minutes and should have some degree of success tonight. Okafor could be ready to go against the Warriors on Saturday.
Emeka Okafor a game-time call vs. Lakers | 03/22/2013 2:51 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor (flu) is a game-time decision against the Lakers on Friday.
Wizards on Twitter
ImpactOkafor did not play on Wednesday and is still too sick to make a call on his status this afternoon. Jason Collins got the start on Wednesday, and it's possible he will again on Friday since the Lakers are starting both Pau Gasol and Dwight Howard. If Okafor sits, Trevor Booker and Kevin Seraphin should see plenty of action along with Nene.
Emeka Okafor (flu) will not play vs. Phoenix | 03/20/2013 8:45 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor (flu) will not play against the Suns on Wednesday.
Paul Coro on Twitter
ImpactJason Collins will get the start, but this is likely due to Randy Wittman wanting to keep the second unit together a little more. Trevor Booker and Kevin Seraphin figure to get most of Okafor's 26.3 minutes per game. Okafor should be ready to go for Friday's game against the Lakers.
Okafor goes for 17 and nine against Bobcats | 03/18/2013 11:23 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor scored 17 points on 7-of-13 shooting with nine rebounds and two blocks over 30 minutes on Monday against the Bobcats.
ImpactOkafor went for 17 and 10 on Saturday and he needs to put up big double-doubles to offset his poor shooting. He's a low-end big man when you tally everything up.
Okafor racks up 17 & 10 in win vs. Phoenix | 03/16/2013 9:45 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor racked up 17 points, 10 rebounds and one block in 26 minutes vs. Phoenix, hitting 7-of-12 FGs and 3-of-5 FTs.
ImpactOkafor's production has slumped in March and he was invisible in his previous two games, so take this with a grain of salt. The Wizards' schedule works in his favor, though, as Washington plays four times in each of the next three weeks.
Emeka Okafor goes for 18 & 11 in loss | 03/12/2013 10:04 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor had 18 points, 11 rebounds, a steal and two blocks in Tuesday's loss.
ImpactHe's hit double figures in rebounds in eight of his last 10 games, has double-doubled in four of his last six, and has blocked a shot in six straight games after struggling in that category previously. There's no reason he shouldn't be owned in almost all fantasy leagues, as he's been quietly productive all season.
Emeka Okafor racks up 17th double-double | 03/07/2013 12:22 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor recorded his 17th double-double of the season on Wednesday, scoring 10 points and grabbing 14 rebounds in a losing effort.
ImpactOkafor started slow this season, but he's been automatic for the past two months, averaging 11.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, 0.6 steals and 0.9 blocks. His lousy FT shooting (48.7 percent) tends to drain his value in roto leagues but he's completely decimated Kevin Seraphin for fantasy purposes -- Seraphin is averaging 12 minutes per game in the past month and picked up a few DNP-CDs in late February.
Emeka Okafor notches 17 & 11 in victory | 02/24/2013 12:00 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor notched his second straight double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds in Saturday's home win.
ImpactOkafor chipped in two steals and three blocks in 34 minutes, and the historically lousy FT shooter split a pair to give Washington the lead with five seconds remaining. Kevin Seraphin picked up a DNP-CD tonight, and by all indications Okafor will keep the starting gig until the season ends.
Emeka Okafor goes for 20 & 9 in loss | 02/14/2013 1:19 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor had 20 points, nine rebounds and zero blocks in Wednesday's loss.
ImpactHe did almost all his damage through three quarters, and then inexplicably sat most of the fourth quarter. He's having a surprisingly fine season and still worth owning in almost all leagues, despite his recent lack of blocks. He's still averaging 1.1 on the season, but hasn't recorded a block in his last five games, which means they are coming.
Okafor bounces back w/ nice game vs. Clips | 02/04/2013 10:43 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor bounced back on Monday after a few quiet games, scoring nine points with 14 rebounds, two assists, one steal and zero turnovers vs. the Clippers.
ImpactOkafor averaged a double-double with a block per game in January and there are no signs that his role is changing, so don't hesitate to keep him in your active lineups. His 57.3 percent FT shooting is the only real pitfall to owning him (1-of-4 tonight), though mercifully he gets to the line only 2.1 times per game.
Okafor cools off, shoots 1-of-6 vs. Spurs | 02/03/2013 1:07 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor shot 1-of-6 for two points vs. the Spurs, while grabbing nine rebounds and blocking one shot in 20 minutes.
ImpactJohn Wall scored 21 points and was ironically one of the few Wizards who could stick a jumper, and we're not reading much into this dud from Okafor, who finished January with averages of 11.2 points, 11.4 rebounds and 1.0 blocks. Backup center Kevin Seraphin played 22 minutes but scored only four points on 1-of-4 shooting.
Emeka Okafor posts another big dub-dub | 01/31/2013 12:11 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor had 15 points, 17 rebounds and two blocks on 7-of-15 shooting in Wednesday's loss to the Sixers.
ImpactOkafor has been ridiculous lately, coming off 23 points and 15 rebounds on 9-of-13 shooting on Monday, posting double-doubles in three straight games, and averaging 13.4 points, 14.6 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.0 blocks over his last five games. As we've been saying, he should be owned in all leagues, period.
Okafor goes for 23 and 15 against the Kings | 01/28/2013 11:58 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor scored a season-high 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting with 15 rebounds, three assists, and one steal against the Kings on Monday.
ImpactOkafor did not block a shot but he hit 5-of-6 free throws. Owners should keep in mind that this comes against the Kings, but he has been getting it done lately and should be owned in all formats while that is the case.
Emeka Okafor starting to thrive with Nene | 01/28/2013 9:48 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor is averaging 10.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks on 50.6 percent shooting since Nene was inserted in the starting lineup alongside him.
ImpactThe pairing of Okafor and Nene has paid off for the Wizards. In addition to those solid statistics, Okafor is also averaging 0.9 steals in January to boot. He's really emerged as a solid option in fantasy leagues, especially for those owners in need of a big man. Okafor should not be floating on waiver wires right now.
Emeka Okafor goes for 15 & 16 in win | 01/26/2013 10:51 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor had 15 points, 16 rebounds, two steals and no blocks in Saturday's impressive win over the Bulls.
ImpactOkafor continues to impress, averaging nearly 10 points, more than 13 boards, a steal and 1.4 blocks per game over his last five.
Okafor grabs 17 boards in loss to Utah | 01/24/2013 1:26 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor scored six points and grabbed 17 rebounds, one shy of his season high, in a road loss in Utah on Wednesday.
ImpactThe veteran center added one steal and two blocks in 31 minutes. He's successfully fending off Kevin Seraphin (four points in 19 minutes) for playing time and has averaged a workman-like 10.2 points, 9.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in January, good enough for low-end value.
Emeka Okafor scores 19 points with 11 boards | 01/14/2013 11:02 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor had his third double-double in a row on Monday with 19 points and 11 rebounds to go with two assists and one block in 27 minutes.
ImpactHis minutes have been inconsistent lately since he's played in less than 23 minutes in two of his last six games. He's still be putting up nice numbers for owners in standard leagues that need boards.
Okafor steps up with guys out on Monday | 01/07/2013 11:55 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor double-doubled with 12 points and 12 rebounds to go with two blocks in Monday's win over the Thunder.
ImpactOkafor hit 5-of-10 shots and logged 37 minutes with Nene and others out tonight, and owners should give him some credit for a good night but keep their expectations where they were before tonight. Okafor is an inconsistent, borderline option best suited for deeper leagues.
Okafor quiet in under 20 minutes | 01/06/2013 9:42 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor started at center but played under 20 minutes on Sunday, finishing a loss in Miami with five points, nine rebounds, one steal and zero blocks.
ImpactKevin Seraphin played 31 minutes as Okafor's sluggish January continued -- through four games he's averaging just 9.0 points, 9.0 rebounds and 0.3 blocks, while cracking 30 minutes one time. He's coming off a game in which he missed 6-of-7 FTs, and he can safely be cut for another free agent.
Okafor goes for 13 and seven in loss | 01/05/2013 1:19 AM
NewsEmeka Okafor scored 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting with seven rebounds, two assists, and two steals over 31 minutes in Friday's double-overtime loss to the Nets.
ImpactRandy Wittman is riding the hot hand between Okafor and Kevin Seraphin (1-of-9 FGs, 18 minutes), and Okafor has been playing mostly well over the last week. We can't guarantee that he will keep it up, but he's worth a look while the good nights are outweighing the bad.
Emeka Okafor cools off in loss to Pacers | 01/02/2013 11:40 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor had just four points to go along with nine rebounds, a steal and a block on 2-of-6 shooting in 22 minutes against Roy Hibbert and the Pacers on Wednesday.
ImpactOkafor came in hot, racking up double-doubles in four of his previous five games, so he was due for an off night. As long as he continues to start and get heavy minutes for the Wiz, he's worth owning in leagues where centers are thin on the waiver wire.
Emeka Okafor double-doubles again | 01/01/2013 9:56 PM
NewsEmeka Okafor had 14 points, 11 rebounds and zero blocks in Tuesday's loss to Dallas.
ImpactOkafor has now double-doubled in four of his last five games and is worth picking up by any owner in need of a fantasy center.
