The 27-year-old lefty has found a way to keep the ball in the park lately, giving up just one homer in his last 44 1/3 innings (0.20 HR/9) after serving up 17 in his first 101 1/3 (1.51 HR/9).

Miley strikes out eight in win over Braves | 07/06/2014 4:26 PM
NewsWade Miley struck out eight while allowing one run over 6 2/3 innings in a win over the Braves on Sunday.
ImpactMiley allowed just five hits, all singles, while walking one in the start. Despite pitching well, it was his first win since May 10 as he's just 4-6 on the season. He's definitely NL-only worth given his recent performance, and his strikeouts -- he's fanned 122 in 126 2/3 innings this season -- make him a passable deep mixed league option as well. He'll carry a 4.42 ERA and 1.25 WHIP into Saturday's start at the Giants.
Miley fans 10 in no-decision against Pirates | 07/01/2014 9:44 PM
NewsWade Miley struck out 10 batters and allowed two runs over eight innings in a no-decision against the Pirates on Tuesday.
ImpactMiley allowed just two hits before the ninth inning, as the Pirates put two more on against him before he was removed. Closer Addison Reed allowed both inherited runners to score, depriving Miley of his fourth win. Still, he didn't walk a batter while striking out 10, the fifth time he's struck out at least eight batters in a game in his last seven starts. It all adds up to a 4.61 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and a surprising 106/34 K/BB ratio in 113 1/3 innings. Miley will try to keep it going Sunday at the Braves.

NewsWade Miley was tagged for five runs -- four earned -- on eight hits over four innings in Tuesday's no-decision victory over the Indians.
ImpactMiley struck out three and walked two before his evening ended prematurely at 83 pitches. It was encouraging to see the southpaw keep the ball in the yard; he entered tied for second in the majors with 17 bombs allowed. Though he has a rotten 4.78 ERA, Miley has pitched far better than that with a 1.33 WHIP and 96/34 K/BB rate. He ranks fifth in the NL with 105 1/3 innings pitched and eighth in strikeouts. Miley will try to finally pitch up to his peripherals when he toes the rubber in Pittsburgh on Tuesday.
Miley battles Brewers to a draw in ND victory | 06/19/2014 12:25 AM
NewsWade Miley held the Brewers to three runs over 7 2/3 innings innings Wednesday in a no-decision.
ImpactThe southpaw punched out eight and walked four. Miley was initially scheduled to start Tuesday, but the Snakes swapped his slot with Mike Bolsinger, who was recalled when Bronson Arroyo was placed on the disabled list. Entering tied for second-most homers allowed in the majors with 16, perhaps it was encouraging that Miley held the Brewers (ranked third in the NL with 74) to a solo long ball (Khris Davis). Miley hasn't won in his last seven starts, the longest futility stretch of his career. Miley (4.62 ERA) welcomes Cleveland to an NL venue when the Indians come to town on Tuesday.

NewsWade Miley got the no-decision, allowing four runs over five innings as the D'Backs lost to the Astros 5-4 in 10 innings on Thursday.
ImpactMiley failed to make it into the sixth inning for the first time since April 23. He was bailed out of a loss by the Astros' bullpen. The lefty allowed seven hits -- including home runs to Jonathan Singleton and Carlos Corporan -- while walking two and striking out eight. Miley has had a rough go of it in 2014, now carrying a 4.71 ERA despite a 1.29 WHIP and an 85/28 K/BB ratio in 93 2/3 innings. He'll go up against the Brewers at home in his next outing.

NewsWade Miley was tagged for four runs, all solo home runs, on eight hits over six innings in Sunday's loss to the Reds.
ImpactOn the plus side, Miley did manage to rack up nine strikeouts in the outing without issuing a free pass. Zack Cozart and Todd Frazier knocked balls over the boards to get the Reds on the board in the second inning, and Ryan Ludwick and Chris Heisey each added their own before Miley's day was done. Now 3-6 on the season, he'll carry a 4.85 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 72/26 K/BB ratio into Saturday's matchup against the Braves.

NewsWade Miley yielded three runs on eight hits over seven innings Tuesday in a no-decision loss to the Padres.
ImpactHe struck out a season-high 11 and walked one. The lefty has given Arizona a little value this year by throwing 75 2/3 innings over 12 starts, but those haven't been inspiring frames. He's 3-5 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.30 WHIP. Miley hosts Cincinnati on Sunday.

ImpactMiley was blanking the Cardinals through five, but ran into trouble in the sixth, ultimately allowing a game-tying two-run double to Shane Robinson. The lefty allowed the go-ahead run in the seventh on Allen Craig's RBI single. Miley allowed seven hits, walked four, and struck out three. He will face the National League's worst offense when he matches up against the Padres at home in his next start.
Wade Miley gives up four runs to Dodgers | 05/17/2014 1:13 AM
NewsWade Miley gave up four runs in six innings Friday in a home loss to the Dodgers.
ImpactIncluding his start in Australia, Miley is now 1-4 with a 7.14 ERA in his home starts this year, compared to 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA in five starts on the road. It's partly a fluke, but it's also likely a function of pitching in a hitter friendly park. As disappointing as the Diamondbacks have been, he just doesn't seem like a very good play in mixed leagues right now.
Miley holds White Sox to two runs in win | 05/10/2014 10:14 PM
NewsWade Miley limited the White Sox to two earned runs over seven innings Saturday to earn his third win.

NewsWade Miley was torched for seven earned runs on 10 hits over six innings Monday as the Diamondbacks lost to the Rockies.
ImpactDespite being nowhere near his pitch limit, Miley ran out of steam in the sixth inning, allowing a solo homer to Troy Tulowitzki and a two-run round-tripper to Justin Morneau. He was yanked after 89 pitches having struck out two and walked one. Entering this start, Miley had a 4.50 ERA, which more or less made him the early-season ace of this atrocious Arizona staff. Miley, now 2-3 with a 5.36 ERA, will have an opportunity to shave that earned run average this weekend in San Diego.
Miley allows five runs in no-decision vs. CHC | 04/23/2014 5:50 PM
NewsWade Miley gave up five runs -- three earned -- over five innings Wednesday in a no-decision vs. the Cubs.
ImpactMiley looked decent in the early going and wound up striking out seven batters on the afternoon, but the Cubs got to him for three runs in the fifth inning and two runs in the sixth. He would have been handed the loss, but the Diamondbacks rallied for five runs in the top of the ninth inning. Miley gets the Rockies next.
Wade Miley holds Dodgers to one run | 04/19/2014 2:42 AM
NewsWade Miley surrendered one run in six-plus innings Friday in a no-decision against the Dodgers.
ImpactMiley threw 106 pitches through six innings, yet manager Kirk Gibson allowed him to hit with a man on and two outs in the top of the seventh and then sent him back to the mound, even with nothing but right-handers due up. His evening ended just two pitches into the seventh, when Scott Van Slyke took him deep to tie the game at 1. It was some atrocious managing after some very good pitching from Miley.

Miley gets rocked in first, hangs on for win | 04/02/2014 12:33 AM
NewsWade Miley hung on to win his 2014 season debut on Tuesday against the Giants, allowing four runs on six hits over seven frames.
ImpactHe struck out five and issued one free pass. As an exercise in perseverance, Miley greatly succeeded in his first start of the new campaign. In the first inning, it was no guarantee that he'd reach even the third. Miley's season began with this unfortunate sequence: single, pop out, single, RBI single, strike out, wild pitch, three-run Brandon Belt homer. After that? Smooth sailing, as a runner didn't reach again until Buster Posey's two-out sixth-inning walk, a stretch of 15 consecutive downed batsmen. Miley will toe the rubber again in Colorado on Sunday.

NewsWade Miley yielded three runs over five innings Saturday in a loss to the Dodgers in the season opener in Australia.
ImpactGetting the nod after the Patrick Corbin injury, Miley allowed three hits and a pair of walks while striking out eight batters. The big blow was a two-run homer by Scott Van Slyke in the top of the fourth inning. Coming off a 3.55 ERA in 33 starts last season, Miley isn't going to miss a lot of bats this often (he has averaged 6.5 K/9 in the majors), but he makes for a fine option in the late rounds of mixed league drafts.
Wade Miley fans four in impressive outing | 03/07/2014 10:04 PM
NewsWade Miley delivered an impressive outing in Friday's Cactus League loss to the Athletics, allowing just an unearned run on three hits over five strong innings.
ImpactMiley punched out four while walking just one in the impressive outing. He's looked good in each of his first two spring starts now, exhibiting good command and throwing all of his pitches for strikes. He looks like a solid backend starter that can be had in the later rounds of mixed league drafts.

NewsWade Miley pitched well in his Cactus League debut on Sunday, allowing just one run on five hits in four innings of work against the Giants.

The 27-year-old southpaw took a slight step backwards during the 2013 campaign, but still posted a respectable 3.55 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 147/66 K/BB ratio over 202 2/3 innings. He should once again have value as a backend starter or matchup play in deeper mixed leagues.
Miley finishes strong in no-decision vs. Nats | 09/29/2013 9:01 PM
NewsWade Miley finished the 2013 strong in Sunday's no-decision against the Nationals, surrendering two runs (one earned) on eight hits over seven frames.
ImpactMiley walked just one batter and punched out two on the afternoon. While many prognosticators thought Miley overachieved during his impressive 2012 campaign, the 26-year-old southpaw silenced some of the critics with another solid effort this season. He finishes with a 10-10 record, 3.55 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 147/66 K/BB ratio over 202 2/3 innings. His limited strikeout ability drives down his overall fantasy value, but he should again have value as a matchup play or backend starter in 2014.
Miley tosses 6 shutout innings vs. Friars | 09/25/2013 2:21 AM
NewsWade Miley shut the Padres out over six innings in Tuesday's no-decision.
ImpactMiley's inconsistency has frustrated fantasy owners this season, but he came up big for those in the playoffs tonight. The left-hander whiffed seven, walked one and allowed only four hits. Miley enters the season finale on Sunday against the Nationals with an 11-10 record and 3.63 ERA.

NewsWade Miley was blasted for five runs on eight hits in just 1 2/3 innings in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.
ImpactMiley was 3-2 with a 2.55 ERA between the All-Star break and yesterday, so it's an understatement to call this outing a disappointment. The left-hander falls to 9-10 with a 3.78 ERA, numbers he'll take into a weekend matchup in San Francisco.

While he hasn't quite enjoyed the same success as his rookie season, Miley is enjoying a solid sophomore campaign with a 3.60 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 119/54 K/BB ratio in 162 2/3 innings. He'll try to get back in the win column when he takes on the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

NewsWade Miley yielded four runs on seven hits over seven innings in a no-decision against the Orioles on Monday.
ImpactHe struck out three and walked one. Miley recorded a 0.86 ERA over his last three starts, so he can be forgiven forgiven for a mediocre outing against a tough opponent. The right-hander has been extremely consistent over a long stretch -- allowing three runs or less in 12 straight starts entering this evening -- and is a must-start in all formats until he cools down.

Wade Miley goes eight strong in victory | 07/07/2013 1:46 AM

ImpactMiley won for the first time since June 5. His ERA stood at 5.01 on May 31, but it's all of the way down to 4.06 now after seven straight starts in which he's allowed no more than three earned runs. That probably overstates how well he's pitched -- he had one start in which he allowed five unearned runs and another in which he pitched just 4 2/3 innings -- but he's certainly improved over where he was in May.
Miley better, but still loses to Nationals | 06/26/2013 9:41 PM

We wouldn't trust Miley in mixed formats, but he has a nice matchup next time out in San Diego.
