ImpactThe Diamondbacks have five pitchers, including Corbin, that will return from Tommy John surgery next year, so the club is committed to a slow rehabilitation process for its arms. Corbin had Tommy John surgery on March 25.

Jack Magruder on Twitter

NewsPatrick Corbin is scheduled to undergo Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery on Monday.
Jack Magruder on Twitter
ImpactThe procedure will be performed by Dr. James Andrews. Corbin tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow in a March 15 Cactus League game and can be ruled out for the entire 2014 season. He might also need a late start to the 2015 campaign.
Tommy John surgery recommended to Corbin | 03/16/2014 2:54 PM
NewsNick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that Tommy John surgery has been recommended to Patrick Corbin (elbow).
Nick Piecoro on Twitter
ImpactHe'll get a second opinion this week before making a final decision, but season-ending surgery looks to be a given. The loss of Corbin is a massive one for the D'Backs, who will now likely go to Randall Delgado to fill out their rotation. Top prospect Archie Bradley also figures to spend plenty of time in the majors this year.

NewsPatrick Corbin said Sunday that he will decide after a second opinion this week whether to rehab or undergo Tommy John surgery to repair a partial tear of his ulnar collateral ligament.
Bob Nightengale on Twitter
ImpactIt would be shocking if he chooses rehab, as it's something that simply doesn't work. Corbin revealed that he's been nursing some elbow tightness all spring but had chalked it up to fatigue. The issue came to a head in his last outing, when the pain became too much during Corbin's final three pitches.

Zach Buchanan on Twitter
ImpactCorbin had been pitching pretty well, allowing two unearned runs over 6 1/3 innings while striking out seven. Corbin got to 2-2 on a batter before leaving with Arizona's trainer. It's unclear what the issue might be -- it's even possible he just hit his pitch count -- but we'll likely know more soon. As it is, Corbin is slated to be the Diamondbacks' starter for the opening game in Australia.

NewsAll-Star Patrick Corbin fell to 1-5 in his final seven starts after allowing five runs in five innings against the Nationals on Friday.
ImpactThe Diamondbacks weighed shutting Corbin down earlier this month, but it seemed they wanted him to prove his grit. Mission accomplished. Sure, his ERA jumped from 2.45 on Aug. 20 to 3.41 now, but he ain't no quitter like that Strasburger fella.

NewsDiamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Patrick Corbin could get some extra rest if he struggles again in his next outing.
Nick Piecoro on Twitter
ImpactThe D'Backs could go to a six-man rotation or even wind up shutting Corbin down entirely if they don't like what they see from the lefty this weekend against the Giants. Corbin has allowed 14 runs -- 13 earned -- over his last two outings. Fantasy owners shouldn't hit the panic button just yet, but they should keep a close eye on Corbin this weekend just as his team is.

NewsPatrick Corbin undoubtedly had a worse Sunday than you, allowing nine runs -- eight runs -- on seven hits in 5 1/3 innings against the Phillies.
ImpactCorbin struck out four and walked three in by far his worst start of the year. Philly nicked the left-hander for four runs in the first and John Mayberry Jr.'s two-run homer in the fourth pushed the Phillie lead to 6-0. Kirk Gibson kept a tiring Corbin in the game to pitch the sixth, a bad idea that led to three more runs. Corbin falls to 13-4 with a 2.79 ERA.

He finished with 10 strikeouts and didn't walk a batter, allowing six hits in total. It was incredibly the 24-year-old's first win since July 23, moving him to 13-3 with a 2.45 ERA. He'll take the mound again Sunday at the Phillies.

NewsThe Diamondbacks will give Patrick Corbin some extra rest around the All-Star break.
ImpactCorbin is slated to pitch on Friday and will then be slotted in as the fourth or fifth starter coming out of the break, regardless of whether he pitches in the All-Star game or not. The lefty is currently on pace to pitch 214 2/3 innings. "We'll do that, regardless (of whether Corbin pitches in the All-Star Game)," manager Kirk Gibson said. "He's at 115-plus innings right now, so he needs a little break."

Corbin will try to bounce back next time out when he faces the Rockies at home. He's 9-1 with a 2.49 ERA.

NewsPatrick Corbin held the Reds to one run over eight innings Saturday in a no-decision.
ImpactIt was a terrific outing against a dangerous Cincinnati offense. Corbin allowed only three hits and struck out five, and he would have moved to 10-0 had Heath Bell not blown the save in the top of the ninth. The Reds rallied against Aroldis Chapman to win it in the bottom half of that frame. Corbin will take a 9-0 record, 2.16 ERA and 1.00 WHIP into his next start against the Braves at Atlanta's Turner Field.

NewsPatrick Corbin wasn't great Sunday but moved to 9-0 anyway, allowing four runs over six innings in an 8-4 win over the Cubs.
ImpactThe left-hander surrendered six hits, walked two and struck out five. NewsPatrick Corbin moved to 7-0 by pitching a three-hitter and striking out 10 as the Diamondbacks topped the Rockies 5-1 on Monday.
ImpactCorbin's April could have been written off as something of a fluke after he went 3-0 with a 1.91 ERA. However, he's now 4-0 with a 0.92 ERA in May. It's a pretty amazing transformation for a guy who went 6-8 with a 4.54 ERA and 14 homers allowed in 107 innings last year.
Patrick Corbin shuts down Braves in victory | 05/15/2013 12:41 AM
NewsPatrick Corbin pitched three-hit ball for seven innings in the Diamondbacks' 2-0 win over the Braves on Tuesday.
ImpactCorbin walked a season-high five batters tonight, but it didn't hurt him as he limited Atlanta's lineup to a double and two singles. He's gone eight straight starts this year without allowing more than two runs. If not for two J.J. Putz blown saves, he'd be 8-0 at the moment.
Corbin improves to 5-0 with win over Phils | 05/10/2013 12:41 AM
NewsPatrick Corbin improved to 5-0 by allowing one run in 6 1/3 innings Thursday in a 2-1 win over the Phillies.
ImpactCorbin limited the Phillies to just four hits (all singles) and two walks (one intentional) while striking out four. He also hit a batter. The lone run scored on a fielder's choice after Corbin was replaced by Matt Reynolds in the seventh inning. He'll carry a 1.75 ERA into a start against the Braves next week.
Patrick Corbin beats Padres, moves to 4-0 | 05/05/2013 12:45 AM
NewsPatrick Corbin limited the Padres to one run in seven innings and struck out seven in Arizona's 8-1 victory Saturday.
ImpactCorbin improved to 4-0 and lowered his ERA to 1.80. The Diamondbacks have won all six of his starts. There's still nothing really that stands about his arsenal, but as he's hitting his spots with his low-90s fastball and mixing in a pretty good slider. It's been plenty good enough so far.
Corbin posts fifth straight quality start | 04/28/2013 7:28 PM
NewsPatrick Corbin allowed two runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings in Sunday's win over the Rockies.
ImpactIt was Corbin's fifth straight quality start. We remain skeptical that he can maintain this pace over the course of the season, but there's no denying Corbin's impressive fist month. He's yet to lose a game and ranks seventh in the National League with a 1.91 ERA.
Patrick Corbin loses shutout in eighth | 04/24/2013 2:00 AM
NewsPatrick Corbin surrendered two runs in 7 1/3 innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Giants.
ImpactCorbin took a shutout into the eighth before retiring just one of the four batters he faced that inning. Up until that point, he had allowed three hits, walked none and struck out seven. We're still rather skeptical about the left-hander, but there's no denying that he's been one of the NL's best pitchers so far.
Corbin terrific, but bullpen blows win | 04/18/2013 11:30 PM
NewsPatrick Corbin was superb Thursday but watched his bullpen blow his win, as he held the Yankees to one run while striking out seven over seven frames in a 6-2 extra innings victory.
ImpactCorbin issued three free passes, but he allowed just two base hits, one of which that was a Robinson Cano home run. Even against a depleted Yankees' lineup, it was quite a performance from the left-hander in a tough environment. Corbin has made manager Kirk Gibson look smart to this point for naming him the fifth starter, as he boasts a 1.42 ERA and 1.05 WHIP through three outings. He'll try to keep it going next week in San Francisco.
Patrick Corbin combines on shutout | 04/13/2013 1:07 AM
NewsPatrick Corbin pitched three-hit ball for six innings and combined with three relievers on a shutout of the Dodgers on Friday.
ImpactBrad Ziegler, David Hernandez and J.J. Putz finished the 3-0 game. Corbin, who beat out Randall Delgado and Tyler Skaggs for a rotation spot this spring, is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA. His long-term upside is pretty limited, but NL-only leaguers should enjoy the ride.

NewsPatrick Corbin held the Brewers to two earned runs in six innings Saturday night in a 9-2 Diamondbacks win.
ImpactCorbin gave up eight hits and issued one walk, but he operated fairly smoothly in situations that required damage control. The 23-year-old left-hander will face the Dodgers next. He's not a great fantasy option.

Nick Piecoro on Twitter
ImpactCorbin posted a 4.54 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 86/25 K/BB ratio in 107 innings last season for the Snakes. The 23-year-old is doubtful to hold mixed league fantasy value.

ImpactCorbin punched out four while issuing three free passes on the night. All of the damage against him came on a two-run single by Michael Brantley in the third inning. ImpactThe left-hander issued a free pass to start off the inning, and then two singles preceded an Alex Gordon grand slam. Patrick Corbin tosses three scorless innings | 03/01/2013 8:19 PM
NewsPatrick Corbin spun three scoreless frames in Friday's 6-2 win over the Cubs.
ImpactCorbin allowed three hits while walking one and fanning four. The 24-year-old southpaw now has eight strikeouts and two walks over five scoreless innings of work this spring.
