|Assets:||Has a tremendously live bat with power to either gap. Runs very well. Rangy and very athletic at shortstop, he can also play other positions due to great versatility.|
|Flaws:||Doesn't walk nearly enough. Doesn't hit with as much power as his ability suggests. Is still a bit raw in several aspects of the game. Is also a bit too streaky.|
|Career Potential:||Solid, yet streaky shortstop.|

Ramirez (back) thinks he'll play in AS game | 07/13/2014 9:43 AM
NewsAlexei Ramirez (back) thinks he'll be available to play in the All-Star game.
ImpactRamirez exited Saturday's game with back stiffness and will surely sit out Sunday, but he doesn't think it's a big issue. "I don't think it's going to be a major thing,'' said Ramirez. The White Sox could still decide to play it safe and hold the shortstop out of the All-Star festivities.

NewsAlexei Ramirez left Saturday's game with back stiffness.
Scott Merkin on Twitter
ImpactRamirez tweaked his back in the bottom of the third inning while attempting to make a play on a groundball. The shortstop will likely sit out Sunday but should return to the White Sox starting lineup after the All-Star break.
Alexei Ramirez leaves game with injury | 07/12/2014 4:07 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez left Saturday's game versus the Indians due to an apparent injury.
Daryl Van Schouwen on Twitter
ImpactRamirez left the game after covering second base when he stopped and tried to field a single to his right. He was 0-for-1 prior to leaving the game. Moises Sierra replaced him as a pinch runner.
Ramirez collects pair of hits as WhiteSox win | 06/29/2014 3:52 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a double in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.
ImpactRamirez has cooled off considerably after an inferno-hot start to the season, entering Sunday's action with a .542 OPS in the month of June. Nevertheless, Ramirez is still slashing .298/.329/.426 with eight home runs, 39 RBI, and 13 stolen bases.
Alexei Ramirez not in ChiSox lineup Saturday | 06/28/2014 10:28 AM
NewsAlexei Ramirez is not in the White Sox starting lineup for Saturday's contest against the Blue Jays.
Chicago White Sox on Twitter
ImpactHe has been scuffling a bit at the plate recently, hitting just .203/.213/.297 with one homer, two RBI and 11 strikeouts over his last 18 games, so it appears manager Robin Ventura may want him to have a mental health day. Leury Garcia is getting the start at shortstop and hitting ninth for the White Sox on Saturday.
Ramirez's slump continues with 0-for-4 game | 06/26/2014 10:25 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez's struggles continued, going 0-for-4 in Thursday's loss to the Blue Jays.
ImpactRamirez, who went 0-for-5 on Wednesday, struck out twice on the evening. His RBI-less streak continued as well, as he has not driven in a run since May 26. The shortstop is now 19-for-91 (.209) with only four extra-base hits (all doubles) in June. Overall, Ramirez still has a respectable .294/.326/.413 slash line with seven home runs, 36 RBI, and 13 stolen bases.
Ramirez has two hits Saturday vs. Padres | 05/31/2014 5:29 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored Saturday against the Padres.
ImpactRamirez slowed down a bit earlier this month, but he has five multi-hit games in his last eight. The 32-year-old is up to 11 stolen bases on the year, so he's currently on pace to come close to the 30 he had in 2013.
Ramirez has three hits, HR, vs. Yanks on Fri. | 05/24/2014 12:37 AM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer Friday against the Yankees.
ImpactRamirez now has seven home runs through 50 games this season. He had six all of last season. The 32-year-old has slowed down a bit this month, but he still has an impressive .325/.361/.497 batting line on the year.
Ramirez singles, walks, steals base in win | 05/22/2014 11:17 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base as the White Sox defeated the Yankees 3-2 on Thursday.
ImpactRamirez swiped his ninth bag on the season and moved his average up a single point. The shortstop is slashing .316/.353/.476 with 32 RBI on the season, making him one of the top offensive players at his position over the first two months of the season.
Alexei Ramirez homers as No. 3 hitter | 05/20/2014 12:24 AM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer and four RBI as the White Sox overcame the Royals' five-run first to win 7-6 on Monday.
ImpactThis was a particularly ugly loss for Royals fans. Ramirez, hitting in the top half of the order for the first time all year, matched his 2013 total with his sixth homer. Manager Robin Ventura held off on moving him up for the longest time, but now it looks like Ramirez will bat third during Jose Abreu's absence, giving his fantasy value a boost.
Alexei Ramirez hits sixth career grand slam | 05/10/2014 12:59 AM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 and hit his sixth career grand slam Friday in the White Sox's 9-3 drubbing of the Diamondbacks.
ImpactSix grand slams is pretty good for someone with 89 homers total, but four of those came in his rookie season of 2008 and the fifth was his first homer as a sophomore, making this his first slam since April 25, 2009. He's up to 25 RBI in 37 games for the season, putting him more than halfway to his 2012 total of 48.
Ramirez's 4 hits not enough in White Sox loss | 05/09/2014 12:29 AM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 4-for-5 with two runs scored in Thursday's loss to the Cubs.
ImpactAll four of Ramirez's hits were singles, pushing his batting average back into the mid-.300's. Ramirez had been cooling off after an incredibly hot start to the season, but is still slashing a very respectable .338/.367/.486. Don't wager too much on his ability to finish the season hitting over .300.
Ramirez has two hits in 1st game after streak | 04/20/2014 7:34 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in the White Sox' win over the Rangers on Sunday.
ImpactRamirez' 17-game hitting streak came to an end Saturday, but he bounced right back with a multi-hit effort Sunday. He also stole a base in the game, his fourth of the year. He continues to be among the league leaders in virtually every offensive category with his scorching start.
Ramirez belts walk-off homer to down Indians | 04/13/2014 8:49 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez hit a two-run home run in the ninth inning to give the White Sox a 4-3 win over the Indians on Sunday.
ImpactRamirez is absolutely on fire to start 2014, and Sunday was just another example. Facing Indians closer John Axford, Ramirez took a letter-high pitch over the left field fences. It was his third homer of the campaign, and the shortstop is batting a ridiculous .420/.463/.680 in the early going.
Alexei Ramirez stays hot against Indians | 04/12/2014 12:12 AM
NewsAlexei Ramirez continued his hot-hitting Friday night against the Indians, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, a stolen base, and a run scored.
ImpactRamirez has now hit safely in all 11 games this season. Seven of them are multi-hit games. He has a ridiculous .429/.469/.667 batting line at the moment. Not bad for a No. 8 hitter.
Alexei Ramirez hits second homer | 04/11/2014 12:01 AM
NewsBatting eighth for the White Sox, Alexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a homer and three RBI versus the Indians on Thursday.
ImpactIt's kind of odd that the White Sox have shied away from hitting Ramirez high in the order, especially in light of his hot start. But Robin Ventura isn't one to try to fix what isn't broken, and the White Sox have been scoring plenty of runs in the early going. Ramirez deserves plenty of credit; he's batting .421 with two homers and nine RBI.
Alexei Ramirez reaches four times in win | 04/02/2014 6:49 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a two-run double and two walks as the White Sox edged the Twins 7-6 in 11 innings Wednesday.
ImpactThe game ended on a wild pitch from Samuel Deduno, scoring Leury Garcia. Ramirez is 4-for-6 after two games, so he's already making a case to bat higher in the lineup. He finished last season batting second and third, but he's hit eighth and seventh in Robin Ventura's first two lineups this year.
Ramirez enjoys a four-hit day vs. Brewers | 03/17/2014 7:30 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and a run scored against the Brewers on Monday.
ImpactRamirez has had a slow spring, so a four-hit day is nice to see. However, Ramirez has finished with an OPS below .700 in each of the past two seasons. He did steal 50 bases in those seasons, which keeps him fantasy-relevant.
Alexei Ramirez has two hits against D'Backs | 03/08/2014 10:04 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI in a losing effort against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
ImpactThe 32-year-old shortstop is off to a strong start this spring, hitting .353 (6-for-17) while striking out just once. His power numbers have deteriorated in recent seasons, but he's made up for it with a sharp increase in his stolen base totals. After the upper-echelon shortstops are off the board, he makes for a very attractive option in the middle rounds.
Ramirez finishes 3-for-3 vs. Royals | 03/06/2014 6:26 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 3-for-3 against the Royals on Thursday.
ImpactRamirez finally got his first hits in Cactus League play, all singles. The 32-year-old has been lackluster with the bat, but has been a good source of steals, having stolen 50 of them over the last two seasons.
Alexei Ramirez goes 4-for-4, hits fifth homer | 09/16/2013 11:45 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 4-for-4 with his fifth homer and his 38th double Monday against the Twins.
ImpactRamirez went seven straight games without scoring and 11 straight without driving in a run before his big game tonight. Apparently, he just likes facing the Twins; four of his five homers have come against Minnesota.
Ramirez scores twice in Sox' comeback win | 08/28/2013 12:37 AM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-3 with two runs scored as the White Sox came from behind to beat the Astros 4-3 on Tuesday.
ImpactRamirez had a hand in both of the White Sox' run-scoring innings, as he scored in the fourth inning to tie the game before scoring again in the definitive three-run eighth inning. Ramirez also stole a base, his 26th of the year, and the shortstop is hitting .287 with 57 runs scored.
Ramirez goes 3-for-4 with 2B, HR and 3 RBI | 08/18/2013 7:41 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a double, homer, three RBI and two runs scored as the White Sox beat the Twins 5-2 on Sunday.
ImpactRamirez has hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games, spiking his batting average from .275 to .289. Despite beginning August 1-for-11 in his first three games, Ramirez is batting .338 with three homers and 13 RBI over 77 at-bats this month.
Alexei Ramirez homers again in nightcap | 08/09/2013 11:35 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 1-for-5 with a solo homer as the White Sox dropped the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader against the Twins.
ImpactRamirez batted third for the first time in his career earlier in the day, and responded by hitting just his second home run of the season. So logically, White Sox manager Robin Ventura left him in that slot for the second game, and Ramirez knocked another one over the boards. If he remains in this slot with the departure of Alex Rios, it could be a serious boon to his fantasy value.
Alexei Ramirez homers, knocks in four | 08/09/2013 5:58 PM
NewsBatting third for the first time in his career, Alexei Ramirez had a two-run homer and a two-run single in the first game of Friday's doubleheader against the Twins.
ImpactWell, now it's obvious Ramirez should have been batting third all along; he'd have 20 homers now instead of two. Ramirez entered the game with just 29 RBI all season. He's been hitting for average and stealing bases, but the lack of power and poor play of the hitters around him has really held him back as a fantasy shortstop. Maybe it will help if he continues to bat third with Alex Rios gone.
Alexei Ramirez goes 4-for-5 for White Sox | 08/05/2013 11:46 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez finished with four hits and two RBI against the Yankees on Monday.
ImpactRamirez remains stuck on one homer for the season, but he's been consistently hitting singles and doubles since Opening Day. Unfortunately, because the rest of the lineup has been so weak, all it's gotten him is 45 runs scored and 29 RBI in 110 games.
Alexei Ramirez back in lineup Friday | 07/12/2013 3:26 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez is back in the White Sox' lineup Friday.
Scott Merkin on Twitter
ImpactRamirez had to exit Thursday's game with right leg cramps, but he's fine. He returns to a .282/.309/.353 batting line with one homer and 19 steals.
Alexei Ramirez diagnosed with right leg cramp | 07/11/2013 3:26 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez was diagnosed with right leg cramps.
Mark D. Gonzales on Twitter
ImpactIt's a dose of good news for the White Sox, who could be looking to move Ramirez at this year's July 31 trade deadline. The shortstop is considered day-to-day. He left Thursday's game in the top of the sixth inning and was replaced in the lineup by Brent Morel.
Alexei Ramirez departs game with leg injury | 07/11/2013 3:08 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez left Thursday's game against the Tigers with an apparent right hamstring injury.
ImpactRamirez first grabbed at his right leg after a fifth-inning groundout and then had to leave the game following a bloop single in the sixth. It looked like it might have been a hamstring strain, which would likely mean a stint on the disabled list. Brent Morel replaced him.
Alexei Ramirez has two hits in loss to Rays | 07/06/2013 10:19 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez was one of the few bright spots in Saturday's shut out loss at the hand of the Rays, going 2-for-3 plus a walk.
ImpactRamirez is now hitting .279/.308/.345 on the season, but his power production has been woefully short with just one homer and 17 RBI. At least his 19 stolen bases have been a nice consolation prize from a fantasy perspective.
Ramirez steals 18th base as Sox fall to Mets | 06/26/2013 11:14 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base as the White Sox lost to the Mets on Wednesday.
ImpactThe two hits and successful stolen base, his 18th of the year, were the good. The caught stealing later in the game and his 13th error of the season were the bad. The shortstop is now hitting .280 with still only one home run in 75 games.
Alexei Ramirez smacks walkoff single vs. Mets | 06/25/2013 11:20 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez hit a walkoff RBI single Tuesday as the White Sox defeated the Mets by a score of 5-4.
ImpactChicago nearly blew the game in the top of the ninth inning but rallied to save that embarrassment in the bottom half of the frame. Jeff Keppinger singled, Gordon Beckham reached on an error and then Ramirez played the role of hero, driving Keppinger home. Ramirez is batting .277/.305/.342 in 74 games played this season.
Ramirez has four hits in loss to Twins | 06/20/2013 4:57 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 4-for-5 with a stolen base in Thursday's loss to the Twins.
ImpactRamirez had three singles and a double, and has now hit safely in four straight games and eight out of his last nine. While the 31-year-old shortstop only has one home run through 70 games this season, he has made up for it by stealing 15 bases. That's just five away from last year's total, which was a career-high.
Ramirez goes 2-for-4 with a 2B and an RBI | 05/26/2013 4:53 AM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI against the Marlins on Saturday.
ImpactAlways a free-swinger, Ramirez has only six less walks this year (10) than he did over 593 at-bats last season. That's the good news. The bad is that Ramirez hasn't found his power stroke. Ramirez (one home run) is slugging only .354, the lowest mark of his career.
Alexei Ramirez goes 3-for-5 for White Sox | 05/13/2013 11:44 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez went 3-for-5 with a double and a run scored against the Twins on Monday.
ImpactWith Jeff Keppinger hitting as poorly as anyone in the majors, Ramirez is getting a little look in the second spot in the White Sox lineup. He's not ideal there, but his fantasy value will get a nice boost for as long as he remains in the spot.
Alexei Ramirez (shoulder) returns to action | 03/29/2013 11:35 PM
NewsAlexei Ramirez (shoulder) doubled and walked in his return to action Friday.
ImpactRamirez left Wednesday's game after he was hit in the right shoulder with a pitch, but fortunately for the White Sox, he only suffered a bruise. He should be fine for Opening Day.

ImpactRamirez suffered a right shoulder bruise after he was hit by a pitch during Wednesday's game. He indicated after the game that he had limited range of motion, but the White Sox are calling him day-to-day.

ImpactUh oh. Ramirez hit the ground and appeared to be in quite a bit of pain. The White Sox figure to provide an update on his status soon, but this is obviously not what you want to see with Opening Day just five short days away.
