Tyson Ross goes seven scoreless in a win | 07/20/2014 12:11 AM
NewsAll-Star Tyson Ross allowed four hits over seven innings and combined with three relievers Saturday on a 6-0 shutout of the Mets.
ImpactRoss is 3-0 with a no-decision in four starts this season in which he's allowed no runs. He's 3-2 when he allows one run, 1-2 when he allows two runs and 1-6 when he allows at least three runs. The six runs the Padres scored tonight were the most they've gotten in a Ross start since May 15.
Ross strikes out nine over seven vs. Dodgers | 07/13/2014 10:55 PM
NewsTyson Ross struck out nine while allowing one run over seven innings but he was the unlucky loser against the Dodgers on Sunday.
ImpactRoss showed off his All-Star form, limiting the Dodgers to one run on six hits and a walk, but his offense failed him yet again. The right-hander is now 7-10 while owning a 2.85 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 126/43 K/BB ratio over 129 2/3 innings. Record aside, Ross arrived in the first half, and the second half should further solidify his place as one of the league's better starters.
Padres starter Tyson Ross struck out nine and allowed one run on six hits over seven innings Sunday at Los Angeles, but he still took his 10th loss of the season. | 07/13/2014 7:30 PM
NewsPadres starter Tyson Ross struck out nine and allowed one run on six hits over seven innings Sunday at Los Angeles, but he still took his 10th loss of the season.
ImpactOnly Clayton Kershaw has a lower contact rate than Ross this season. He's posted a 2.85 ERA, a 1.18 WHIP and 117 Ks in 122 2/3 innings and is one of two Padres All-Stars along with Huston Street.
Ross notches first MLB shutout to beat Reds | 07/02/2014 6:10 PM
NewsTyson Ross tossed his first major league shutout Wednesday in the Padres' 3-0 defeat of the Reds.
ImpactRoss was fantastic, yielding just three hits and zero walks while striking out nine Cincinnati hitters. The 27-year-old right-hander now boasts a 2.93 ERA and 111 strikeouts in 116 2/3 innings this season for San Diego. He'll try to stay hot next week at Coors Field. The Padres have suddenly won four games in a row.
Ross gets hit hard early in loss to Mariners | 06/17/2014 1:12 AM
NewsTyson Ross was blasted for five runs on seven hits over five innings in a 5-1 loss to the Mariners on Monday.
ImpactRoss, who walked seven and struck out six, should be given credit for completing five innings after it looked like he might not get out of the second. A three-run Seattle first inning was punctuated by Kyle Seager's two-run homer, and in a two-run second, Brad Miller corked a solo long fly. Ross settled in from there, saving the bullpen three innings of work in a game San Diego was clearly going to lose (a five-run deficit with the Padres' offense is as futile as trying to make a cross-country road trip on one tank of gas). The right-hander entered this evening 2-0 with a 2.16 ERA over his previous four road outings. He'd also posted a 1.78 ERA in four 2014 interleague starts this year. It was a good fantasy matchup gone awry. Ross welcomes the Dodgers to San Diego on Saturday.
Ross dazzles, but takes no-decision vs. Phils | 06/11/2014 10:19 PM
NewsTyson Ross got the no-decision, shutting the Phillies out over seven innings as the Padres lost 3-0 on Wednesday.
ImpactRoss bounced back nicely from his last bumpy start against the Nationals. The right-hander held the Phillies to four hits (all singles) and a walk while striking out seven. Quietly, Ross has put together a nice season, now holding a 2.97 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP and a 84/33 K/BB ratio in 88 innings. He'll get the Mariners on the road in his next outing.
Tyson Ross gives up six runs in loss | 06/07/2014 1:28 AM
NewsTyson Ross gave up six runs -- five earned -- in 5 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Nationals.
ImpactRoss's own error led to the unearned run. He struck out seven in the contest, but he walked three, hit a batter and threw a wild pitch, making this one of his sloppiest outings of the season.
Ross goes six innings in win over ChiSox | 05/31/2014 5:38 PM
NewsTyson Ross allowed two runs (one earned) over six innings in a 4-2 win over the White Sox on Saturday.
ImpactRoss was knocked around for five runs (four earned) over five innings last time out, but he bounced back nicely in this one. After an up-and-down April, the 27-year-old posted a 2.06 ERA over six starts in May. Ross has allowed 10 unearned runs this season, so he hasn't been quite as good as his ERA indicates, but he's still been very valuable in mixed leagues.
Ross scuffles vs. Diamondbacks in no-decision | 05/26/2014 11:29 PM
NewsTyson Ross yielded five runs -- four earned -- on nine hits over five innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Monday.
ImpactHe whiffed four and didn't issue a free pass. The right-hander surrendered exactly one run over seven innings in four straight starts, slashing his ERA from 3.68 to 2.64. He also entered having struck out eight in three straight starts. This was obviously a disappointing showing from one of the most added pitchers in fantasy baseball over the past few weeks, but you can't really pull the plug after one dud performance. Ross toes the rubber on the road on Sunday against the White Sox.
Ross goes seven innings in victory | 05/15/2014 9:18 PM
NewsTyson Ross tossed seven innings of one-run ball as the Padres topped the Reds 6-1 in the nightcap of Thursday's doubleheader.
ImpactRoss allowed an RBI ground out in the first inning, but he didn't give up his first hit until Chris Heisey doubled with two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning. He tied a season-high with five walks and struck out seven in the victory and now owns a 2.81 ERA and 53 strikeouts across 57 2/3 innings this season. He's capable of being a useful starter in mixed leagues, even away from PETCO Park.
Tyson Ross strikes out eight Marlins | 05/10/2014 1:55 AM
NewsTyson Ross pitched seven innings of one-run ball and struck out eight in beating the Marlins on Friday.
ImpactIt's the fourth time in eight starts that Ross has pitched at least seven innings and allowed no more than one run. He hasn't been quite as good as his 3.02 ERA suggests -- he's allowed eight unearned runs already -- but he's a fine mixed-league starter.
Ross allows three runs in no-decision vs. ARI | 05/04/2014 8:48 PM
NewsTyson Ross allowed three runs -- one earned -- on seven hits over seven innings in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
ImpactRoss came back from a subpar start against the Giants his last time out to allow a Paul Goldschmidt home run for the only real damage against him on the day. The other two runs came after a fielding error and passed ball with two outs in the fourth inning. Ross walked one and struck out five, and he was good enough to earn his fourth win in the game if not for the mistakes. He'll look for a better result against the Marlins on Friday.
Ross scuffles vs. Giants but hangs on for win | 04/29/2014 1:52 AM
NewsTyson Ross ceded four runs on eight hits over 5 1/3 innings in Monday's 6-4 victory against the Giants.
ImpactHe whiffed four and issued two free passes. Ross jumped out to a quick start this season, going 2-2 with a 2.13 ERA through four starts. However, in his last two outings, he's plummeted back to our globe, coughing up nine runs over 11 1/3 frames. Ross, who improved to 3-3 with a 3.68 ERA and 1.42 WHIP with the win tonight, must improve his consistency. The 27-year-old will try to get right on that when he hosts the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Ross struggles, take the loss vs. Brewers | 04/23/2014 11:36 PM
NewsTyson Ross fell to 2-3 after allowing five runs in six innings during Wednesday's loss to the Brewers.
ImpactRoss had put up back-to-back starts but couldn't make it three in a row. Ross allowed nine hits, walked two, and struck out three. The damage was mostly done on home runs, with a three-run shot to Jean Segura in the second and a solo shot to Khris Davis in the fourth. The swing-and-miss stuff wasn't there for Ross the way it had been, so he'll have to rediscover it in his next start against the Giants.
Tyson Ross blanks the Giants | 04/19/2014 1:03 AM
NewsTyson Ross shut out the Giants for eight innings and struck out nine in a victory Friday.
ImpactRoss was shaky and wild in his first two starts of the year, but he's allowed one run in 15 innings and posted a 16/2 K/BB ratio in the last two. He's talented enough to remain a useful mixed-league starter all year long.
Ross holds Tigers to one run in 5-1 victory | 04/13/2014 8:23 PM
NewsTyson Ross allowed one run over seven innings Sunday, and the Padres topped the Tigers by a score of 5-1.
ImpactMax Scherzer was the pitcher to watch coming into the game, but Ross stole the spotlight with his strong outing. He gave up six hits and a walk while striking out seven in his seven innings of work. He'll take a 1-2 record and 3.12 ERA into his start against the Giants next weekend.
Ross takes the loss in start against Indians | 04/08/2014 10:53 PM
NewsTyson Ross allowed seven runs (two earned) in 5 1/3 innings in Tuesday's start against the Indians, resulting in a loss.
ImpactRoss wasn't helped by a defense that committed two errors behind him, but walked five and allowed five hits, including a three-run home run to David Murphy. Further, the right-hander only struck out two. His first two starts of the season have left much to be desired, but Ross remains a potential breakout candidate.
Ross to remain on turn and start Tuesday | 04/07/2014 5:24 PM
NewsTyson Ross will start Tuesday against the Indians.
Corey Brock on Twitter
ImpactMonday's game was postponed due to rain, but Ross will remain on his regular turn. Eric Stults and Robbie Erlin will start in Wednesday's doubleheader.
Ross bounces back with good start Saturday | 03/22/2014 10:49 PM
NewsTyson Ross rebounded from a poor start to hold the White Sox to one run over 6 2/3 innings Saturday.
ImpactRoss was facing a split squad, but he scattered six hits and three walks over his 94 pitches. He also struck out four in the outing. Ross is a popular breakout candidate this year after posting a 3.17 ERA in 125 innings last season.
Ross shelled by the Rockies | 03/17/2014 7:05 PM
NewsTyson Ross was hit hard in 4 1/3 innings during Monday's start, a 9-7 loss to the Rockies.
ImpactRoss allowed six runs on 12 hits. He did strikeout six without issuing a walk, giving fans of defense-independent stats a reason to ignore Monday's outing. Ross had otherwise been enjoying a good spring.

NewsTyson Ross allowed three runs in 3 1/3 innings during Wednesday's start against the Indians.
ImpactRoss issued three walks and allowed four hits, including a two-run home run to Carlos Santana in the first inning. The 26-year-old is looking to build on a breakout 2013 season when he posted a 3.17 ERA in 125 innings split between the rotation and the bullpen. He'll pitch out of the middle of the Padres' rotation this season.
Tyson Ross strong again in win over Brewers | 03/08/2014 12:18 AM
NewsTyson Ross put together another strong outing in Friday's victory over the Brewers, hurling three scoreless innings without allowing a hit.
ImpactRoss walked two and fanned three on the evening. Despite a 3-8 record, Ross had a terrific season in 2013, compiling a 3.17 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 119/44 K/BB ratio over 125 innings. While an increased workload may be a slight concern, his favorable home park and strikeout potential make him an intriguing target in the later rounds of mixed league drafts.
Tyson Ross, Padres avoid arbitration | 01/16/2014 9:54 PM
NewsPadres avoided arbitration with RHP Tyson Ross by agreeing to a one-year, $1.98 million contract.
Ken Rosenthal on Twitter
ImpactIt was Ross' first year of arbitration eligibility after he qualified for Super Two status. Ross had an underrated semi-breakout season in 2013, posting a 3.17 ERA with 119 strikeouts over 125 frames for the Padres. The righty is a fantasy sleeper heading into 2014.

NewsTyson Ross underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left (non-throwing) shoulder on Wednesday.
San Diego Padres on Twitter
ImpactRoss is expected to be 100 percent in time for spring training. The 26-year-old had a mini-breakout this season, posting a 3.17 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 119/44 K/BB ratio over 125 innings. He figures to be a popular target in the late rounds of fantasy drafts next year.
Tyson Ross punches out seven Giants on Sunday | 09/29/2013 9:12 PM
NewsTyson Ross delivered a quality start in Sunday's season finale against the Giants, allowing three runs on seven hits over six innings.
ImpactRoss punched out seven on the day while issuing just one free pass. Despite his 3-8 record, the 26-year-old right-hander blossomed in the Padres rotation this season, compiling a 3.17 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 119/44 K/BB ratio over 125 innings. He'll all but assuredly maintain a spot in the Padres rotation heading into the 2014 season and makes for an excellent target in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.
Ross (ND) allows only 1 run in 8 innings | 09/25/2013 2:20 AM
NewsTyson Ross worked eight innings of one-run ball on Tuesday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.
ImpactThe right-hander struck out six, walked three and coughed up only three hits. Unfortunately, one of those hits was a Paul Goldschmidt solo homer in the sixth inning that cost him the win. Ross remains 3-8 with a 3.10 ERA, but he'll have one last chance to get win No. 4 in Sunday's season finale against San Francisco.
Tyson Ross holds Pirates in check | 09/18/2013 10:06 PM
NewsTyson Ross was terrific Wednesday, allowing just two runs on three hits while striking out seven over seven frames in a 3-2 win over the Pirates.
ImpactHe didn't issue any walks, needing 90 pitches to cover the seven frames. It comes after Ross lasted just two-thirds of an inning in his last start, though he's mostly been very good since rejoining the rotation, posting a 3.00 ERA and 72/19 K/BB ratio over 66 innings. He'll try to keep it going next week at home against the D'Backs.
Tyson Ross gets pulled in first | 09/13/2013 12:31 AM
NewsTyson Ross lasted just two-thirds of an inning and gave up six runs Thursday against the Phillies.
ImpactThat's quite a letdown from a guy who struck out 15 while allowing one run in 12 innings in his previous two starts. Maybe it was just a bad day or perhaps he's tiring out a bit after spending the last couple of months in the rotation. He'll get Pittsburgh next if he stays in turn.
Ross racks up 10 strikeouts in no-decision | 09/01/2013 7:57 PM
NewsTyson Ross gave up one run on five hits over five innings in Sunday's loss to the Dodgers.
ImpactHe racked up 10 strikeouts, but had to be removed in the fifth inning after working up a high pitch count (105 pitches). Despite the strong outing, he continues to get little run support and was outdueled by Zack Greinke for a no-decision. Ross has been a major upgrade for the Padres since moving back into the rotation in late July and currently owns a 2.99 ERA and 1.19 WHIP.
Ross struggles against Pittsburgh offense | 08/21/2013 1:10 AM
NewsTyson Ross was charged with the loss on Tuesday against the Pirates, allowing five runs -- four earned -- over 6 1/3 innings.
ImpactHe struck out six and walked two. The 26-year-old entered this evening with a spectacular 1.32 ERA and 36/10 K/BB ratio in five starts since shifting to the starting rotation, so an off-night can be forgiven. Ross will toe the rubber Monday in Arizona against the Snakes.
Ross gives up one run in no-decision | 08/16/2013 1:30 AM
NewsTyson Ross was handed a no-decision Thursday after tossing seven innings of one-run ball against the Mets.
ImpactRoss was excellent, allowing just five hits and no walks while striking out eight. However, he just didn't get any help from his offense. Still, the 26-year-old has an impressive 1.32 ERA and 36/10 K/BB ratio in five starts since moving to the starting rotation, so there's a lot to like from a fantasy perspective. He's worth a shot in deeper mixed leagues at this point.
Ross remains hot, Padres take care of Reds | 08/10/2013 10:27 PM
NewsTyson Ross tossed seven innings of one-run ball in the Padres' 3-1 defeat of the Reds on Saturday.
ImpactRoss has been on fire since moving into the Padres' starting rotation, boasting a 1.33 ERA and 28 strikeouts in his last 27 innings. The right-hander is still having some control issues, but he possesses swing-and-miss stuff and is a must-own right now in most standard mixed fantasy leagues. Ross will take on the Mets next.
Tyson Ross strikes out nine Yankees in loss | 08/04/2013 12:13 AM
NewsTyson Ross yielded two runs in six-plus innings and struck out nine Saturday against the Yankees.
ImpactRoss had a shutout going until Curtis Granderson homered off him in the seventh. He's been extremely impressive in three starts since rejoining the rotation, and it's time to think about adding him in mixed leagues.
Ross hurls 8 shutout innings versus Arizona | 07/28/2013 6:55 PM
NewsTyson Ross dealt eight shutout innings and allowed just three hits in Sunday's win against Arizona.
ImpactHe struck out seven and walked two. Since being pressed into the starting rotation due to injuries, Ross has allowed just one run on five hits over two starts covering 14 innings, winning both times. Ross (2-4, 2.90 ERA) gets the Yankees next.
Ross limits Brewers to one run for first win | 07/23/2013 11:55 PM
NewsTyson Ross allowed one run over six innings to earn the win against the Brewers on Tuesday.
ImpactRoss had made just three starts for the Padres all season before Tuesday, but he was pressed into duty given the Padres' recent injuries sustained by their pitching staff. He earned his keep, too, surrendering just two hits and two walks while striking out six in six innings of work. He earned the right to another start, likely facing the Diamondbacks in Arizona on Sunday.
Padres recall RHP Ross from Triple-A | 07/23/2013 2:54 PM
NewsPadres recalled RHP Tyson Ross from Triple-A Tucson.
ImpactRoss was sent down just prior to the All-Star break, but he'll return to start Tuesday night against the Brewers. The 26-year-old has a 3.60 ERA and 34/21 K/BB ratio over 45 innings in three starts and 19 relief appearances with the Padres this season. He's not a fantasy option outside of NL-only leagues.
Tyson Ross to start on Tuesday | 07/21/2013 12:13 PM
NewsTyson Ross will be recalled to start on Tuesday in Milwaukee.
Chad Thornburg on Twitter
ImpactRoss was sent down earlier this month in order to get stretched out, and he's now ready to join the rotation. The right-hander's nice arm makes him intriguing, but he's been too inconsistent to trust in mixed leagues.
Tyson Ross optioned to Triple-A | 07/09/2013 6:23 PM
NewsPadres optioned RHP Tyson Ross to Triple-A Tucson.
ImpactRoss allowed seven runs over his last three relief appearances to earn a ticket out of town. His arm is still intriguing, but the results just haven't been there consistently at the big league level. He should be back up later this summer.
Tyson Ross fans five in relief | 06/19/2013 7:05 PM
NewsTyson Ross struck out all five Giants he faced out of the pen on Wednesday.
ImpactHe needed just 21 pitches to do it, too. The Padres said last month that Ross was going to get another shot in the rotation, but nothing of late suggests that they're intending to make that happen anytime soon. He ha a 2.05 ERA in 22 innings since coming off the DL and joining the pen.
Tyson Ross will rejoin rotation when healthy | 05/15/2013 6:59 PM
NewsPadres manager Bud Black said Tyson Ross will rejoin the rotation once his left shoulder is healed.
ImpactRoss is obviously healthy enough to pitch, but his left shoulder subluxation leaves him unable to swing a bat, meaning he can only pitch in relief for now. There's no timetable for when he'll be ready to swing again. "We still see him as a starting pitcher," said Black. "But that will be left shoulder related and whether he's physically able to do that. Right now, his strength is improving. In due time, he has to get in a cage."
Tyson Ross activated from disabled list | 05/05/2013 2:34 PM
NewsPadres activated RHP Tyson Ross from the 15-day disabled list.
ImpactRoss posted a 1.71 WHIP and 12/10 K/BB ratio over 14 innings before a left shoulder subluxation sent him to the DL. The Padres are saying he'll work in relief for now, so they'll need to decide on another fifth starter.
Tyson Ross to begin rehab assignment | 04/28/2013 2:32 PM
NewsTyson Ross (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Tucson this week.
Corey Brock on Twitter
ImpactOut with a left shoulder subluxation, it's not clear how many rehab starts Ross will need before being activated. He's not a given to be re-inserted into the rotation when ready.
Tyson Ross to DL with left shoulder injury | 04/20/2013 6:41 PM
NewsPadres placed RHP Tyson Ross on the disabled list with a left shoulder subluxation.
Corey Brock on Twitter
ImpactThe injury is a formal was of saying he suffered a partial dislocation of his left shoulder. He suffered the injury taking a swing during the Padres' game against the Dodgers on Wednesday. The injury is to his non-throwing shoulder, so it shouldn't affect his pitching when he's able to return.
Tyson Ross questionable for Tuesday's start | 04/20/2013 12:05 AM
NewsTyson Ross (shoulder) remains at risk of missing Tuesday's scheduled start against the Brewers due to a subluxation in his left shoulder.
San Diego Union-Tribune
ImpactRoss still maintains that he'll be able to give it a go, but manager Bud Black is proceeding with caution. While he has improved in recent days, they don't want to risk him doing further damage if he isn't feeling percent.
Tyson Ross (shoulder) expects to make start | 04/19/2013 9:01 PM
NewsTyson Ross (shoulder) indicated Friday that while he's still sore, he intends to make his scheduled start against the Brewers on Tuesday.
Corey Brock on Twitter
ImpactPadres manager Bud Black isn't quite as confident, listing Ross as questionable. Through his first three starts, Ross has posted a 3.86 ERA, but a very troubling 1.71 WHIP and 12/10 K/BB ratio over 14 innings.
Tyson Ross gets lifted in fifth inning | 04/18/2013 1:57 AM
NewsTyson Ross was removed after allowing one run in 4 2/3 innings Wednesday against the Dodgers.
ImpactThe Padres were up 4-1 at the time, but they pulled the plug on Ross after he sandwiched a single in between two walks in the fifth. After three starts, Ross has a decent enough 3.86 ERA, but he's pitched just 14 innings. If he can't start working deeper into the games, he'll probably end up in the pen.

NewsTyson Ross yielded three runs in 5 1/3 innings and struck out eight Friday in a no-decision against the Rockies.
ImpactRoss has a great fastball, but command and consistency are annual problems for him. In two starts for the Padres, he's walked seven in 9 1/3 innings. The Padres may decide to shift him to the bullpen if he can't work deeper into games.
Tyson Ross expected to be No. 5 starter | 03/28/2013 6:30 PM
NewsTyson Ross is expected to be named the Padres' No. 5 starter over Andrew Cashner.
Corey Brock on Twitter
ImpactCashner is still expected to make the Opening Day roster, but he'll be used out of the bullpen initially. Ross has walked 10 over 21 innings this spring, but he's also struck out 19 while posting a 2.57 ERA. He has some NL-only appeal with his favorable home park.

Corey Brock on Twitter
ImpactRoss hasn't allowed a run in his last 11 1/3 innings this spring and boasts a 2.76 ERA with 13 strikeouts over 16 1/3 frames overall. He'll get a chance to state his case again on Friday, when he's scheduled to go six innings..
Tyson Ross makes a case for starting spot | 03/16/2013 7:36 PM
NewsTyson Ross continued his strong spring Saturday, pitching 5 1/3 scoreless innings in the Padres 10-6 win over the Diamondbacks.
ImpactRoss is battling for a spot in the Padres rotation, and turns like Saturday improve his chances of breaking camp with a starting role. Ross now has a 2.76 ERA on the spring. The 25-year-old, whose brother, Joe, is also part of the Padres organization, started 13 games for the A's last season, so he's no stranger to a starting role. Still, the rotation likely won't be solidified until later this spring.
Ross gives up three runs in loss to Royals | 02/28/2013 7:43 PM
NewsTyson Ross was tagged for three runs over three innings in a loss to the Royals on Thursday.
ImpactRoss gave up four hits while striking out one and walking one. He has allowed five runs over five innings of work so far this spring, which isn't the best way for him to win a rotation spot. Still, he's intriguing enough to monitor in NL-only formats.
