ImpactAbreu put the White Sox on the board early, driving a solo home run to center field off of Justin Verlander in the first inning. Abreu has been exactly as advertised: lots of power, and not much with the average. He's sitting on a .924 OPS with 19 RBI despite a .259 average.

ImpactAbreu had been stinging the ball since the regular season began but hadn't hit one out until he swatted a three-run shot in the seventh inning of Tuesday's game. Just for good measure he followed it up with a homer in his next at-bat, driving in two more. The power is as advertised, and Tuesday's display should just be the beginning for the 27-year-old.

NewsWhite Sox signed 1B Jose Abreu to a six-year, $68 million contract.
ImpactThe record-breaking agreement was reported earlier this month, but it's now official. Abreu will receive a $10 million signing bonus and be paid $7 million in 2014 and 2015, $10 million in 2016, $10.5 million in 2017, $11.5 million in 2018 and $12 million in 2019. The White Sox are counting on the 26-year-old Cuban defector to provide some much-needed thump in the middle of their lineup.
