More importantly, it was a clean outing after he'd allowed runs in each of his last two appearances -- the last of which came a week ago. NewsThe Royals have afforded Greg Holland just two save chances in May.
ImpactKansas City went 14-10 in April and Holland picked up six saves. Thanks to a 7-17 May, Holland has disappeared, converting one of his chances and blowing the other. Such is the fickle life of a fantasy closer. Despite the meager saves output, Holland owns a solid 2.81 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 26/8 K/BB rate over 16 innings.

ImpactTasked with protecting a 1-0 lead in the top of the ninth inning, Holland did everything he could to cost the Royals the game, only managing to escape with one run to his name because of a 1-2-3 double play with the bases loaded. The rocky outing ballooned Holland's ERA to 3.75, and soared his WHIP from 1.36 to 1.67. Holland's job has to be on thin ice, though setup man Kelvin Herrera has barely been better. Perhaps Aaron Crow will soon get a look in the ninth inning.

Holland escapes trouble for save Tuesday | 04/09/2013 11:45 PM
NewsGreg Holland worked around two walks and a hit to record his second save of the season Tuesday.
ImpactHolland didn't make it easy for himself, walking Darin Mastroianni with two outs to load the bases for Joe Mauer. Mauer would go down swinging, but calling the outing a step in the right direction is optimistic at best. Manager Ned Yost pledged his allegiance to the 27-year-old on Monday, so there's no reason to think that has changed after Tuesday's successful save conversion. Yost and fantasy owners would appreciate if Holland were a little more efficient with those conversions in the future, though.
Royals sticking with Greg Holland as closer | 04/08/2013 4:44 PM
NewsRoyals manager Ned Yost said Monday that he is sticking with Greg Holland as his closer.
ImpactHolland blew a save on Saturday and was pulled from a save situation Sunday in favor of Kelvin Herrera, but Yost isn't going to make a change this early in the season. "He's just been kind of a slow starter -- he was last year, too," said Yost. "Once he gets his feet underneath him, he's lights out. We'll adjust it out." While Holland certainly deserves a longer leash, there's little doubt that Herrera would be a competent replacement if the struggles continue. Since Holland and Herrera have both worked back-to-back days, Yost would like to stay away from using them on Monday.
Holland struggles again, save goes to Herrera | 04/07/2013 5:12 PM

He got Chase Utley to fly out but Ryan Howard and Michael Young hit back-to-back singles so the Royals turned to fire-balling setup man Kelvin Herrera, who finished the game for his first save. Holland shouldn't lose his job yet, but Herrera needs to be picked up in leagues where he remains unowned.
Greg Holland remains Royals' closer | 04/07/2013 12:57 PM
NewsRoyals manager Ned Yost said Greg Holland remains the team's closer following Saturday's blown save.
Kansas City Star
ImpactHolland blew a two-run lead when he served up a two-out, bases-clearing double to the Phillies' Kevin Frandsen. The hard-thrower has earned a bit of a leash, but the Royals have a nice back-up option in Kelvin Herrera, so Holland can't afford too many slip-ups. "We're not going to lose (many) games like that," Yost said, "without making an adjustment. But we're not near that point yet. You don't like losing games like that. And every time you do, everybody wants to pop the closer question. I can't get involved in that."
Holland blows save vs. Phillies, takes loss | 04/06/2013 10:06 PM
NewsGreg Holland blew a two-run lead in the ninth inning as the Royals lost to the Phillies on Saturday.
ImpactHolland walked the bases loaded then nearly escaped the threat by registering two strikeouts. But he lost the game moments later on Kevin Frandsen's bases-clearing double. Holland's seat isn't yet warm, but the Royals don't have a shortage of other options if the 27-year-old continues to struggle. Kelvin Herrera is a major talent.
