Lance Lynn strikes out 10 in victory | 03/13/2014 4:42 PM
NewsLance Lynn overwhelmed the Braves on Thursday, striking out 10 in four scoreless innings for his first spring win.
ImpactLynn gave up five runs in 1 1/3 innings last time out. Today, he gave up just one single and walked none. He also pitched around a Matt Carpenter error.
Lance Lynn pounded for five runs | 03/07/2014 4:39 PM
NewsLance Lynn was tagged for five runs in 1 1/3 innings by the Marlins on Friday.
ImpactLynn gave up six hits, four of them doubles. He pitched just fine in his previous spring start, throwing two scoreless innings, so one bad day isn't of much concern.
Lynn spends winter working with Carpenter | 01/19/2014 4:25 PM
NewsDerrick Goold of the St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that Lance Lynn has spent the winter working at Busch Stadium with former teammate Chris Carpenter.
Derrick Goold on Twitter
ImpactThere's certainly no downside to taking tips from and working with one of the greatest pitchers in franchise history. The 26-year-old Lynn posted a 3.97 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 198/76 K/BB ratio over 201 2/3 innings while winning 15 games in 2013. While he reportedly may be in competition for a rotation spot, it would be incredibly surprising if he wasn't in the Opening Day rotation.
Cards could shop Lynn or Miller for a SS | 11/03/2013 8:39 AM
NewsThe St. Louis Post-Dispatch's Joe Strauss expects the Cardinals to shop Lance Lynn or Shelby Miller this winter as they attempt to fill a hole at shortstop.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactIt makes sense, as the Cards have rotation depth to spare and need to get someone to replace Pete Kozma at short. They'll surely be more willing to deal Lynn, though Miller could be able to fetch more of a frontline shortstop. Lynn isn't arbitration-eligible until after the 2014 season, while Miller won't hit arbitration until after the 2015 campaign.
Lynn gives up three runs in loss to Red Sox | 10/27/2013 11:54 PM
NewsLance Lynn struggled in a losing effort against the Red Sox in Game 4 of the World Series on Sunday, allowing three runs on three hits in his 5 2/3 innings of work.
ImpactLynn also issued three free passes while punching out five. He was locked into a pitcher's duel, with the score knotted at 1-1 heading into the sixth inning. It was there that Lynn allowed a two out single to Dustin Pedroia and walked David Ortiz before giving way to Seth Maness. Jonny Gomes then greeted Maness with a dramatic three-run blast, giving the Red Sox the lead and hanging a pair of runs on Lynn's line. He now sports a disappointing 5.19 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 17/10 K/BB ratio through 17 1/3 postseason innings. Should the series head to a seventh game, Lynn could be available to work in relief.
Lance Lynn to start Game 4 against Red Sox | 10/25/2013 7:54 PM
NewsCardinals manager Mike Matheny announced Friday that Lance Lynn will start Game 4 of the World Series against the Red Sox on Sunday.
ImpactThe Cardinals had considered going with Adam Wainwright on short rest if the team was facing elimination, instead they'll now use their ace on normal rest in Game 5. The 26-year-old right-hander has appeared in three games this postseason (two starts), registering a 5.40 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 12/7 K/BB ratio over 11 2/3 innings. It will be his first career start in the World Series.
Lynn available out of bullpen for Game 1 | 10/23/2013 3:39 PM
NewsLance Lynn will be available out of the bullpen for Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday.
Jenifer Langosch on Twitter
ImpactThe Cardinals certainly hope that won't be necessary, as they'll be looking for a big outing from their ace Adam Wainwright, but Lynn will function as insurance. It's still possible he'll start when the series goes back to St. Louis.
Lance Lynn survives to win Game 4 | 10/16/2013 12:00 AM
NewsLance Lynn wasn't great but was good enough Tuesday, yielding two runs on six hits and three walks over 5 1/3 frames in a 4-2 win over the Dodgers.
ImpactLynn escaped a bases-loaded jam in the second and was tagged for three hits, a walk and two runs in the fourth. He wound up allowing just the two runs, though, before handing it off to the Cardinals' bullpen, which produced 3 2/3 scoreless innings. The Cards will send Joe Kelly to the mound in Game 5 as they try to punch their ticket to the World Series.
Lynn to start Game 4 of NLCS against Dodgers | 10/12/2013 12:32 PM
NewsThe Cardinals announced that Lance Lynn will start Game 4 of the NLCS against the Dodgers.
Jim Bowden on Twitter
ImpactCardinals manager Mike Matheny had previously hedged on revealing the identity of that day's starter. Shelby Miller will remain in the bullpen while Matheny rolls with Lynn, who was blasted for five runs over 4 1/3 frames in his NLDS start against the Pirates.
Lynn, Miller both available out of bullpen | 10/11/2013 4:44 PM
NewsCardinals manager Mike Matheny said Friday that both Lance Lynn and Shelby Miller will be available out of the bullpen in Game 1.
Eric Stephen on Twitter
ImpactMatheny has yet to name the club's Game 4 starter for the NLCS, as both Lynn and Miller are still possibilities. Lynn was knocked around for five runs over 4 1/3 frames in his NLDS start, while Miller allowed one run in his lone relief inning. The Dodgers are going with Hyun-Jin Ryu and Ricky Nolasco in Games 3 and 4, though they've yet to reveal the order they'll pitch in.
Lynn and Miller available of bullpen for Gm 1 | 10/11/2013 4:40 PM
NewsLance Lynn and Shelby Miller will be available out of the bullpen for Game 1 of the NLCS against the Dodgers on Friday.
Eric Stephen on Twitter
ImpactThe Cardinals are hoping for a big outing out of Joe Kelly, but Lynn and Miller will be ready if needed. We'll most likely see Lynn or Miller start Game 4.
Lance Lynn clobbered in Friday's loss | 10/04/2013 4:55 PM
NewsLance Lynn was touched up for five runs on seven hits and three walks over 4 1/3 frames in Friday's loss to the Pirates.
ImpactLynn struck out six and wasn't helped out much by his defense, but he wasn't sharp, either, requiring 83 pitches to cover the 4 1/3 innings. Cardinals manager Mike Matheny's somewhat surprising decision to start him in Game 2 now looks like a dubious one. The Cards will try to bounce back at PNC Park on Sunday with Joe Kelly on the hill.
Lance Lynn to start Game 2 of NLDS | 10/01/2013 2:52 PM
NewsLance Lynn will start Game 2 of the NLDS on Friday.
Derrick Goold on Twitter
ImpactThe Cardinals still don't know if they'll be facing the Reds or Pirates in the NLDS, but they are already setting things up. They are naturally going with their ace Adam Wainwright in Game 1.
Lynn wins as Cardinals clinch NL Central | 09/27/2013 11:26 PM
NewsLance Lynn spun six scoreless frames in a 7-0 win over the Cubs on Friday, helping the Cardinals clinch the National League Central.
ImpactLynn held the Cubs to just four hits while walking none and striking out nine. He'll finish the regular season with 198 strikeouts over 201 2/3 innings. He gave up just three earned runs combined over his final four starts, so he's headed into the postseason on a high note.
Lynn solid again as Cardinals top Brewers | 09/21/2013 10:32 PM
NewsLance Lynn tossed 6 1/3 innings of one-run ball in a win over the Brewers on Saturday in Milwaukee.
ImpactAnother strong effort from Lynn, who struggled throughout late August and early September but is hitting his stride again at the right time for the Cardinals. The 26-year-old right-hander gave up just four Milwaukee hits and struck out seven. He'll finish his regular season slate next week at home against the Cubs.
Lance Lynn fans 10, Cardinals beat Brewers | 09/11/2013 11:24 PM
NewsLance Lynn surrendered just one (unearned) run in six innings Wednesday in a 5-1 win over the Brewers.
ImpactSt. Louis has now won five games in a row. It was a hugely important outing for Lynn, who had been battered in recent starts and was at risk of losing his rotation spot to one of the Cardinals' youngsters. He made sure that didn't happen, fanning 10 batters in an impressive six-inning effort. Lynn will haul a 4.23 ERA into his next turn at Coors Field. That's a risky fantasy matchup.
Lance Lynn struggles again vs. Reds | 09/05/2013 10:21 PM
NewsLance Lynn didn't have it again Thursday, getting charged with four runs on seven hits and four walks over five innings in a loss to the Reds.
ImpactLynn recorded six strikeouts, but he allowed three home runs and was falling behind hitters all night. His line easily could have been worse, as he escaped a bases loaded jam in the first and didn't have a 1-2-3 inning all night. Lynn has now allowed at least four runs in each of his last five starts, posting a 7.57 ERA over that time. It's doubtful his rotation spot is in danger just yet, but with Jake Westbrook (back) nearing a return, Lynn needs to pick it up. He'll get the Brewers at home next week.
Lynn gets knocked around in loss to Pirates | 08/31/2013 10:01 PM
NewsLance Lynn allowed seven runs on 10 hits over four innings against the Pirates on Saturday.
ImpactLynn has made a habit of compounding back luck and bad pitching, and more of the latter got him on Saturday. Lynn gave up a three-run home run to Russell Martin among his 10 hits allowed, also walking three batters. Lynn still hasn't won a game since August 4, falling to 13-9 with his fourth straight loss. He'll return Thursday against the Reds in Cincinnati.
Lynn rocked as Cardinals fall to the Brewers | 08/20/2013 11:18 PM
NewsLance Lynn was shelled for six runs -- four earned -- in six innings Tuesday in a loss to the Brewers.
ImpactLynn cruised through the first three innings, but the Brewers had six straight batters reach base to open the bottom of the fourth and wound up scoring five runs in that frame. Lynn coughed up nine hits and walked three. He'll try to bounce back next week at home against the Braves.
Lynn handed no-decision vs. Pirates | 08/15/2013 6:09 PM
NewsLance Lynn was handed a no-decision Thursday against the Pirates after allowing four runs over 5 1/3 innings.
ImpactLynn was actually in line for the victory when the left the ballgame, but the Pirates later tied it against the Cardinals' bullpen. He struck out six and walked one in the no-decision and now holds a 3.89 ERA and 151/58 K/BB ratio over 158 innings this season. He'll get the Brewers next week in Milwaukee.
Lynn gives up three runs in loss to Cubs | 08/09/2013 11:59 PM
NewsLance Lynn yielded three runs over 6 2/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Cubs.
ImpactAll three runs scored in his final inning of work, with two of them coming home after he was pulled from the game in favor of Randy Choate. Lynn gave up just three hits on the night, but he matched a season-high with five walks. Two of them were in that fateful seventh inning. He'll attempt to avoid the big inning when he brings a 3.79 ERA into a start against the first-place Pirates next week at home.
Lynn strikes out 11 in victory against Reds | 08/04/2013 4:18 PM
NewsLance Lynn struck out 11, allowing two runs over eight innings, in a victory against the Reds on Sunday.
ImpactLynn scattered four hits and walked two. The 11 strikeouts were a season-high and the most Lynn had recorded in an outing since June 13, 2012, when he fanned 12 White Sox. Lynn has registered three consecutive quality starts, surrendering just four runs over 21 innings. At 13-5 with a 3.78 ERA, he remains a must-start fantasy hurler.
Lynn to start first game of DH vs. Pirates | 07/29/2013 5:29 PM
NewsLance Lynn will start the first game of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Pirates.
Jenifer Langosch on Twitter
ImpactThe Cardinals want Lynn in the first game so that he is matched up against A.J. Burnett. Tyler Lyons is slated to start for St. Louis in the nightcap.
Lance Lynn beats Phillies for 12th win | 07/25/2013 10:21 PM
NewsLance Lynn limited the Phillies to one run and five hits over seven innings to pick up a victory Thursday.
ImpactIt was just Lynn's second quality start in his last six outings, despite the fact that he's been blessed with a pretty easy schedule (the other came against the Marlins). The fade may continue as he starts to face better lineups again, but for now, he's 12-5 with a 3.98 ERA.
Lance Lynn knocked around in loss to Cubs | 07/13/2013 10:49 PM
NewsLance Lynn was knocked around in Saturday's loss to the Cubs, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits over 4 1/3 innings.
ImpactLynn walked one and struck out two in the rough outing. He struggled to keep the ball in the yard in this one, as Alfonso Soriano and Luis Valbuena each took him over the boards. Lynn heads into the All-Star break with an 11-4 record, 3.92 ERA and 115/41 K/BB ratio over 117 innings. After posting a 4.32 ERA and 1.44 WHIP during the second half in 2012, fantasy owners should tread carefully.
Lynn goes seven strong to earn his 11th win | 07/07/2013 5:03 PM
NewsLance Lynn held the Marlins to two runs over seven innings Sunday in the Cardinals' 3-2 victory.
ImpactLynn surrendered seven hits but he issued just one walk and kept the Marlins from doing any major damage with his seven strikeouts. The big right-hander is now 11-3 with a 3.67 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 113 strikeouts in 112 2/3 innings this season. He should be able to keep it rolling in his final first-half start Saturday at Wrigley Field.
Lance Lynn has uneven outing vs. Astros | 06/26/2013 11:12 PM
NewsLance Lynn permitted four runs on five hits and four walks over 7 2/3 frames in Wednesday's loss to the Astros.
ImpactIt was a bizarre outing for Lynn. He held the Astros hitless through three before falling apart in the fourth, allowing two hits, two walks and four runs. After a shaky but scoreless fifth, he then didn't allow a baserunner the rest of the way other than when a hitter reached after a dropped third strike. The righty will bring a 3.52 ERA and 1.16 WHIP into Anaheim next week.
Lance Lynn beats Cubs for 10th victory | 06/20/2013 11:43 PM
NewsLance Lynn pitched six innings of one-run ball to beat the Cubs for his 10th win Thursday.
ImpactLynn was lifted for a pinch-hitter after throwing 92 pitches, and Allen Craig delivered a two-run single in his place, giving the Cardinals a 4-1 lead. If there hadn't been runners on, Lynn might have come back out for another inning. Although Lynn is just the third NL pitcher to 10 wins, joining teammate Adam Wainwright and Jordan Zimmerman, who also got there tonight, he's actually behind last year's pace. In 2012, he got his 10th win on June 13.
Lynn allowes 7 ER, gets win against Marlins | 06/15/2013 8:28 PM
NewsLance Lynn allowed seven runs in five innings but stuck around long enough to get his ninth win, beating the Marlins on Saturday.
ImpactLynn just had to be less terrible than Marlins starter Tom Koehler, and he lasted just long enough to qualify for the victory. It was a forgettable outing, but his ERA is still just 3.56 despite the drubbing. He'll go for double digit wins against the Cubs on Thursday.
Lynn struggles on Sunday night | 06/10/2013 12:25 AM
NewsLance Lynn gave up four runs on five hits over six innings in his start on Sunday night against the Reds.
ImpactHe struck out six and had three walks. It was a rare non-quality start from Lynn, who had allowed two or fewer earned runs in his previous three outings. He'll look to get back on track Saturday vs. the Marlins.
Lance Lynn beats Diamondbacks for eighth win | 06/03/2013 11:43 PM
NewsLance Lynn moved to 8-1 with seven innings of one-run ball against the Diamondbacks on Monday.
ImpactLynn's season ERA of 2.76 is plenty good on its own, but lop off the first three starts and he's all of the way down to 1.95 in his last nine outings. While his K/BB ratio isn't quite Wainwrightian, 76/26 in 75 innings is still very impressive.
Lynn solid for seven as Cards beat Royals | 05/29/2013 11:14 PM
NewsLance Lynn allowed just two runs over seven innings as the Cardinals topped the Royals on Wednesday.
ImpactLynn was steady yet again, striking out four and walking only one while scattering eight hits. He threw 66 of his 99 pitches for strikes. The big right-hander will carry a 7-1 record, 2.91 ERA and 1.12 WHIP into his next scheduled start against the Diamondbacks.
Lance Lynn strikes out nine in Cards' shutout | 05/25/2013 1:24 AM
NewsLance Lynn pitched six scoreless innings, striking out nine, in the Cardinals' 7-0 shutout of the Dodgers on Friday.
ImpactLynn allowed two of the three hits surrendered by Cardinals pitching in the gem. He was removed after just 77 pitches, though there was no indication there was anything physically wrong with him. The Cardinals probably just wanted to give him a break with the game seemingly in hand.
Lynn allows four runs in Cards' loss to MIL | 05/18/2013 11:08 PM
NewsLance Lynn gave up four earned runs in five innings Saturday in the Cardinals' loss to the Brewers.
ImpactLynn struggled with his command, throwing only 56 of his 89 pitches for strikes while yielding eight hits and two walks. He escaped with a no-decision only because the Cardinals lost in extra innings. Lynn will take a 6-1 record, 3.27 ERA and 1.16 WHIP into his next outing against the Dodgers. It will be a nice test.
Lance Lynn beats Mets for sixth win | 05/13/2013 10:44 PM
NewsLance Lynn improved to 6-1 after allowing three runs and four hits in seven innings Monday against the Mets.
ImpactThe Mets made Lynn work -- he walked five and threw 124 pitches in his seven innings -- but they never did break through against him. Lynn joins Jordan Zimmermann as the only NL starters with six wins this season.
Lance Lynn allows two runs in loss to Cubs | 05/07/2013 10:48 PM
NewsLance Lynn allowed two earned runs over seven innings as the Cardinals fell to the Cubs on Tuesday.
ImpactLynn was dominant for most of the night, yielding only four hits and a walk while striking out eight. But he gave up a single to Alfonso Soriano in the bottom of the fourth and Nate Schierholtz followed with a two-run homer to center field. Lynn is now 5-1 with a 2.72 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 47/16 K/BB ratio in 43 innings this season. He remains a must-start in fantasy leagues.
Lance Lynn is NL's first to five victories | 05/01/2013 4:59 PM
NewsLance Lynn became the National League's first five-game winner after pitching seven innings of one-run ball against the Reds on Wednesday.
ImpactIt was quite a day for Lynn; he even singled to snap a 52-at-bat hitless skid. Lynn has allowed a total of two runs over 21 innings in his last three starts. His 2013 is shaping up a lot like his 2012 so far. Let's just hope there's no repeat of his second half.
Lynn tosses seven innings of one-run ball | 04/27/2013 12:03 AM
NewsLance Lynn improved to 4-0 by firing seven innings of one-run ball Friday against the Pirates.
ImpactLynn was dominant, striking out nine batters while giving up just two hits and three walks. He also hit Starling Marte twice. The lone run scored on a sacrifice fly by Pedro Alvarez in the sixth inning. Lynn has allowed one earned run or less in three out of his last four starts and has a 3.10 ERA and 34/13 K/BB ratio across his first 29 innings of work this season. He has a tough test against the Reds next time out, but he struck out 10 over six innings of one-run ball in his first start against them on April 9. Fantasy owners will hope for a repeat performance.
Lynn allows one hit in seven against Phillies | 04/20/2013 10:21 PM
NewsLance Lynn allowed just one hit over seven scoreless innings Saturday in a 5-0 victory over the Phillies.
ImpactLynn gave up three walks but pitched around the danger, striking out eight and retiring 20 of the 24 batters he faced. The 25-year-old right-hander is now 3-0 with a 3.68 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 25/10 K/BB ratio through 22 innings this season. He will take on the Pirates next and needs to be owned in most standard fantasy leagues.
Lynn strikes out 10 Reds in victory Tuesday | 04/10/2013 12:01 AM
NewsLance Lynn allowed one run while striking out 10 in six innings of the Cardinals' 5-1 win over the Reds Tuesday.
ImpactLynn's first start, in which he lasted only four innings, had some owners worried, so it was a comforting bounce-back from the big righty. The 25-year-old allowed just four hits over his six innings, another promising sign. Lynn's next test will come Monday against the Pirates at PNC Park.
Lance Lynn gets pulled in fifth inning | 04/04/2013 2:38 AM
NewsLance Lynn was charged with four runs in four-plus innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks.
ImpactWith the Cardinals up 4-1, the wheels suddenly fell off for Lynn in the fifth, when he gave a up a triple, a single and a ground-rule double to the only three batters he faced. Both inherited runners came around to score off Randy Choate and Joe Kelly. Lynn picked up his game in the second half of the spring after struggling early. We expect him to be a very solid starter for the Cardinals this year.
Lance Lynn shuts down Marlins in win | 03/28/2013 3:48 PM
NewsLance Lynn limited the Marlins to two hits over six innings in the Cardinals' 1-0 victory Thursday.
ImpactLynn struck out five and walked none while facing mostly regulars today. He's improved considerably in his last two starts after admitting to difficulties with his new, slimmer physique early this spring. His exhibition season is over with a 2-3 record and a 4.94 ERA.
Lance Lynn strikes out five Marlins | 03/23/2013 4:58 PM
NewsLance Lynn surrendered three runs in 5 2/3 innings and struck out five against the Marlins on Saturday.

Lynn working on delivery that fits slim frame | 03/18/2013 9:30 AM
NewsLance Lynn is still trying to tailor his throwing motion to his new slimmer frame.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactLynn dropped a whopping 40 pounds over the offseason and has experienced some minor control issues this spring in the Grapefruit League. "When you have a different body type you're going to have a little more flexibility compared to the lack of flexibility at times I've had in the past," the right-hander said Sunday. "It's knowing now where and how far I can push things."
Lance Lynn gives up one run in loss | 03/11/2013 4:09 PM
NewsLance Lynn yielded one run and two hits in four innings Monday in a loss to the Yankees.
ImpactThere's no doubt that Lynn is in the best shape of his life, though it's only resulted in a 5.40 ERA so far. Lynn locked up his rotation spot when Chris Carpenter went down, and he should come close to matching last year's 3.78 ERA, even if it doesn't result in 18 wins again.
Lance Lynn loses weight over offseason | 02/08/2013 1:26 PM
NewsLance Lynn said he has arrived at the Cardinals' spring training complex about 20 pounds lighter than he was in camp last year.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactLynn also gained weight during the season, so he's lost more than 20 pounds overall. The Cards asked the right-hander to get in better shape over the winter, and it's clear he took the advice to heart. "He's going to be much more athletic, definitely it's going to help him out with his stamina and in all phases of his game," pitching coach Derek Lilliquist said. Lynn's spot in the rotation was virtually guaranteed after Chris Carpenter's injury.
Lance Lynn the 'front-runner' for No. 5 job | 01/20/2013 10:28 AM
NewsCardinals general manager John Mozeliak views Lance Lynn as the "front-runner" in the competition for the No. 5 starter spot.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactThe Cards wanted Lynn to lose some weight over the offseason and aren't guaranteeing him anything, but he's got a leg up over Joe Kelly, Trevor Rosenthal and Shelby Miller. "I look at Lance Lynn as the front-runner of that," Mozeliak said. "He deserves that. It's not something that I would advise him to lay down and just think it's his job." It's possible the Cards will have two spots up for grabs if Jaime Garcia's shoulder proves to be unsound.
