NewsJarred Cosart, Enrique Hernandez and Austin Wates have been traded from the Astros to the Marlins for Jake Marisnick, Colin Moran, Frances Martes and a 2015 compensation pick.
ImpactThe 24-year-old Cosart is the only player in this trade that fantasy owners need to worry about this season, and he's 9-7 with a 4.41 ERA, a 1.46 WHIP and 75 Ks in 116 1/3 innings. In other words, he's really not someone fantasy owners need to own.

Cosart rocked by Mariners for sixth loss | 07/01/2014 11:55 PM
NewsJarred Cosart was knocked around by the Mariners on Tuesday, allowing six runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings in the loss.
ImpactCosart also walked more batters than he struck out, fanning three while issuing four free passes. The loss came after Cosart had rattled off four straight wins, as Tuesday's outing was the first time he'd allowed more than three runs in a start since April 18. Even with the poor start, the 24-year-old is 8-6 with a 3.93 ERA through 17 starts on the year. He'll try to get back in the win column Sunday at the Angels.
Jarred Cosart earns fourth straight win | 06/26/2014 5:26 PM
NewsJarred Cosart won a fourth straight start by limiting the Braves to one run in seven innings on Thursday.
ImpactThose last three wins have come with a total of six strikeouts in 22 innings. Cosart has a strong groundball rate and his command is improving every month, it seems, but it's still going to be a tough thing for him to maintain a sub-4.00 ERA when he relies so much on his defense. Regardless, the current streak is worth enjoying. He and Dallas Keuchel are both now 8-5 this season, giving the Astros two pitchers with more wins than their 2013 team leader (Jordan Lyles went 7-9).
Cosart tosses eight scoreless innings in win | 06/20/2014 10:23 PM
NewsJareed Cosart fired eight scoreless innings in Friday's 3-1 win over the Rays.

The young right-hander has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in 11 consecutive starts and owns a solid 3.78 ERA on the year. While he struggled with his control early on in the season, he has walked two batters or fewer in each of his last five starts. He'll try to keep the momentum going next week against the Braves at home.

This was the ninth straight start in which Cosart has allowed three runs or fewer, though he improved to just 4-3 in that span tonight. He evens his overall record to 5-5 to go with a 4.19 ERA and 1.36 WHIP. Cosart has a matinee in Houston on Saturday against Chris Archer and the Rays.

NewsJarred Cosart allowed three runs on five hits over 6 1/3 innings in a setback against the Mariners on Thursday.
ImpactCosart walked four and struck out six in the loss. The right-hander has been reliable enough to have uses in some AL-only formats, allowing more than three runs just twice in 10 starts. He's 3-4 with a 4.39 ERA and 1.39 WHIP, numbers he'll take into a matchup against the Royals in Kansas City next week.

NewsJarred Cosart allowed two runs on five hits over six innings but settled for a no-decision against the Nationals on Tuesday.
ImpactCosart walked two and struck out six, leaving with the lead before the Nationals got to the Astros' bullpen. Home runs remain an issue for the right-hander -- after Jayson Werth's first inning shot, Cosart has now served up five home runs in six starts. He's got a tough date at the Tigers on Monday.
Jarrod Cosart gives up seven runs in first | 04/19/2014 1:42 AM
NewsJarred Cosart lasted just one-third of an inning and gave up seven runs in an ugly loss to the A's on Friday.
ImpactCosart walked four and gave up two homers before being pulled. It was quite a massacre for a guy who entered with a 2.42 ERA in 13 big-league starts. He had allowed just four homers in 78 innings dating back to his callup last season. We're not very high on Cosart for fantasy purposes this year, but hopefully this will go down as an isolated incident.
Cosart allows three runs in a no-decision | 04/12/2014 11:39 PM
NewsJarred Cosart yielded three earned runs over seven innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Rangers.
ImpactCosart racked up eight strikeouts and showed improved control, but the Rangers' offense got to him for runs in the first, second, and fourth innings. Cosart will bring a 4.00 ERA into his next outing on the road in Oakland.
Jarred Cosart not sharp against Angels | 04/07/2014 6:23 PM
NewsJarred Cosart was shaky in Monday's loss to the Angels, allowing five runs on three hits and four walks over six innings.
ImpactCosart managed to get through his first start of the season without walking anyone, but his lack of control showed up in this one. The hard-throwing right-hander now sports an unsightly 40/39 K/BB ratio over his first 12 major league outings. Cosart will try to right the ship this weekend in Texas in a tough matchup.
Cosart earns win in 2014 debut against NYY | 04/02/2014 11:33 PM
NewsJarred Cosart tossed five shutout innings and got the win in Wednesday's start against the Yankees.
ImpactCosart, for the most part, stayed out of trouble, allowing only five hits. He didn't issue a walk and struck out three. Part of the haul in 2011's Hunter Pence trade with the Phillies, Cosart showed promise in 10 starts last season despite command issues and a mediocre ability to generate whiffs.

NewsJarred Cosart will start the second game of the Astros' regular season schedule against the Yankees.
Brian McTaggart on Twitter
ImpactCosart has been knocked around this spring in the Grapefruit League, but the Astros obviously aren't too concerned about those results. The 23-year-old right-hander posted a 1.95 ERA and 33 strikeouts over his first 60 major league innings last season and could hold some value in deeper mixed fantasy formats in 2014. Brett Oberholtzer will start the Astros' third regular-season game.
Jarrod Cosart gives up five runs to Cards | 03/14/2014 4:58 PM
NewsJarred Cosart struggled in a loss to the Cardinals on Friday, giving up five runs in 3 1/3 innings.
ImpactCosart had successful first and third innings, but the Cardinals hit him pretty hard in the other two frames. Cosart has now given up seven runs (six earned), seven hits and five walks in seven innings for the spring. A spot in Houston's rotation is his to lose, and he hasn't been bad enough to throw it away with his performance so far.
Jarrod Cosart goes two hitless innings | 03/02/2014 4:06 PM
NewsJarrod Cosart pitched two hitless innings as the Astros beat a Braves split-squad 7-4 on Sunday.

Brian McTaggart on Twitter

NewsJarred Cosart allowed one unearned run on only two hits over five innings of Monday's no-decision against the Mariners.
ImpactSeattle couldn't touch Cosart's stuff, but the right-hander walked six batters. Cosart has posted a spectacular 1.95 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in 60 innings over 10 starts, but he's produced an awful 33/35 K/BB ratio. Cosart will find out next week that the Reds aren't as generous as the Mariners in stranding runners.
Cosart struggles in no-decision against Twins | 09/04/2013 1:07 AM
NewsJarred Cosart allowed four runs over four innings but escaped with a no-decision against the Twins on Tuesday.
ImpactCosart suffered his first real setback Tuesday, as it was the first time in nine starts that he allowed more than three runs. His control continues to be an issue, as his three free passes gives him 29 allowed in just 55 innings this season. Still, the right-hander has been good enough that his clunker raised his ERA to a still-stellar 2.13 over nine starts. He's got a good shot at rebounding Sunday against the A's at O.co Coliseum.
Cosart allows three runs in loss vs. Rangers | 08/21/2013 12:35 AM
NewsJarred Cosart allowed three runs in six innings in a loss against the Rangers on Tuesday.
ImpactThe first time Cosart has allowed more than two runs in a start is also the first loss for Cosart. The right-hander gave up four hits, including an Adrian Beltre two-run homer, and three walks on the night. Even with the loss, Cosart still carries a dazzling 1.60 ERA after seven major league starts. He'll take on the White Sox in Chicago on Monday.
Cosart hurls six shutout innings against A's | 08/15/2013 1:48 AM
NewsJarred Cosart fired six shutout innings in a no-decision against the A's on Wednesday.
ImpactCosart went toe-to-toe against Jarrod Parker on the road, once again providing a glimmer of hope in an otherwise dismal season for Houston fans. The 23-year-old rookie scattered three hits, walked one and struck out four. He's allowed two runs or less in all six of his big league starts and still hasn't given up a home run. Cosart remains 1-0 -- largely because of his teammates -- with a 1.15 ERA and 1.18 WHIP.
Cosart loses control in no-decision vs. Sox | 08/08/2013 12:32 AM
NewsJarred Cosart allowed two runs over five innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Wednesday.
ImpactCosart came out of the start relatively unscathed, but it could have been much worse for the 23-year-old. Cosart walked five and allowed seven hits in his five innings, striking out just three. It broke his string four straight starts allowing zero or one run. Still, Cosart goes into Tuesday's start against the A's with a 1-0 record and 1.36 ERA through five starts.
Cosart brilliant in no-decision vs. Twins | 08/03/2013 12:55 AM
NewsJared Cosart was handed a no-decision after tossing seven innings of one-run ball Friday against the Twins.
ImpactCosart left in line for the victory, but Jose Cisnero blew the lead in the eighth inning. The rookie right-hander gave up just five hits and one walk while striking out four. He has now allowed just three earned runs over 28 innings through his first four starts in the majors, good enough for a 0.96 ERA. We wouldn't trust him in mixed fantasy leagues with the Red Sox on tap for next week, but the Astros have an intriguing talent on their hands here.
Cosart strong again in no-decision versus A's | 07/24/2013 1:02 AM
NewsJarred Cosart allowed two runs -- one earned -- over seven innings of work in a no-decision against the Athletics on Tuesday.
ImpactCosart gave up seven hits and three walks in the start, striking out four. He's now got a 0.60 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through two starts spanning 15 innings. There will be growing pains along the way and the ceiling is only so high for a starter pitching for such a bad team, but Cosart seems ready to stick in Houston and is a flyer for those in deeper mixed leagues. He's on track to start again Sunday against the Blue Jays in Toronto.
Despite brilliance, Cosart optioned to minors | 07/12/2013 10:57 PM
NewsAstros optioned RHP Jarred Cosart to Triple-A Oklahoma City.
ImpactCosart was brilliant in his MLB debut on Friday, earning a victory after tossing eight scoreless innings of two-hit baseball. While he's heading back to Triple-A, with poor performance rampant in the Astros rotation, it's only a matter of time before he's back up for good. Expect to see the young right-hander again this Summer.
Cosart carries no-hitter into seventh in win | 07/12/2013 9:54 PM
NewsJarred Cosart was absolutely scintillating in his MLB debut on Friday, scattering two hits and three walks over eight scoreless innings.
ImpactWith a one-out single in the seventh inning, Ben Zobrist spoiled the no-hit bid. He was given the chance to start the ninth inning, but pulled after walking Kelly Johnson. Cosart displayed impressive command of his fastball throughout the evening, and kept Rays' hitters off-balance with his terrific curveball. The plan was for Cosart to just be making a spot start, and then head back to Triple-A, but such an impressive outing could change the organization's plans. He's certainly worth grabbing in deeper mixed leagues in the hope that he sticks.
Cosart being optioned after Friday's start | 07/12/2013 4:47 PM
NewsJarred Cosart will be optioned back to Triple-A Oklahoma City after Friday's start against the Rays.
Brian T. Smith on Twitter
ImpactCosart could be back later this month if he pitches well, but it's being viewed as a spot-start right now. The righty earned the call to the big leagues after posting a 3.29 ERA and 93/50 K/BB ratio over 93 innings this season in Triple-A.
Astros recall Jarred Cosart for Friday start | 07/12/2013 8:36 AM
NewsAstros recalled RHP Jarred Cosart from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
ImpactHe will make his major league debut on Friday against the Rays. A hard-thrower with a curveball that can be nasty at times, Cosart would be considered an elite prospect if he could command his offerings better. He's still an intriguing talent as is and is worth a shot in AL-only formats. The righty holds a 3.29 ERA and 93/50 K/BB ratio over 93 innings at Oklahoma City this season.
Jarred Cosart coming up to start on Friday | 07/10/2013 11:56 PM
NewsJarred Cosart will be called up to start on Friday against the Rays.
Brian T. Smith on Twitter
ImpactIt will be the top prospect's major league debut. Cosart's control issues have carried over into this season but he's pitched well overall, posting a 3.29 ERA and 93/50 K/BB ratio over 93 innings. With the uncertainty in the Astros' rotation, he could stick around for a while if he pitches well. He's worth adding in AL-only formats and probably deep mixed leagues.
Astros make four roster cuts | 03/13/2013 10:53 AM
NewsAstros optioned RHPs Jarred Cosart, Jose Cisnero and Ross Seaton and LHP Brett Oberholtzer to minor league camp.
ImpactThe Astros have yet to announce the specific minor league assignments for each player. Cosart is coming off a rough spring, but the Astros have high hopes for him as a starter. If all goes well, he should make his major league debut this season.
Jarred Cosart gives up four runs in relief | 03/10/2013 5:06 PM
NewsFacing the team that drafted him, Jarred Cosart yielded four runs in 1 2/3 innings Sunday against the Phillies.
ImpactFortunately, the Astros have ditched the idea of Cosart as a closer candidate. He'll be left in the rotation and start the year in Triple-A after a shaky spring that's seemed him amass an 8.22 ERA so far. He hit two batters and walked another today.
