Del-gone-do?: Randall spanked, 'pen next? | 04/11/2014 2:30 AM
NewsRandall Delgado hit the showers early on Thursday against the Giants after allowing three runs on six hits and three walks over 3 1/3 innings without striking out a batter.
ImpactWith Josh Collmenter's return to the rotation looming, this may have been Delgado's last start in awhile. He can't say he wasn't given an opportunity, and the bullpen might be a better fit at the moment; Delgado certainly has the stuff for it, despite his shoddy results this year. If he somehow hangs onto his spot through one more turn in the rotation, Delgado and his 10.13 ERA and 2.88 WHIP would get the Mets on Tuesday.
Delgado allows two runs in four innings | 03/27/2014 5:04 PM
NewsRandall Delgado allowed two runs in four innings during Thursday's start against the Reds.
ImpactDelgado surrendered seven hits in total while walking one and striking out three. As the D'Backs demoted Archie Bradley to Triple-A, the fifth spot in the rotation appears to be Delgado's, though no announcement has been made yet. Though Delgado showed good control last season in 116 1/3 innings, he was very homer-prone and wasn't anything special in the strikeout department.
Delgado hit hard against the Padres | 03/04/2014 5:40 PM
NewsRandall Delgado was hit around in Tuesday's start against the Padres, allowing four runs and failing to make it out of the fourth inning.
ImpactDelgado's four runs came on five hits and a walk. Carlos Quentin took him deep in the second and Yonder Alonso went yard in the third. Delgado will contribute out of the bullpen but can and likely will be used as an emergency starter as well.
Randall Delgado pitches well Thursday | 02/27/2014 6:51 PM
NewsRandall Delgado held the Dodgers to one run on four hits over 3 2/3 innings Thursday.
ImpactHe struck out a pair and didn't walk anyone. Delgado was removed after retiring the first two batters in the fourth and then watched RJ Hively serve up a home run to the first batter he faced to tie the game. The Bronson Arroyo signing pushed Delgado to the bullpen, but he's a nice insurance policy to have around.
Randall Delgado likely to make team as RP | 02/09/2014 2:17 PM
NewsDiamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Sunday that Randall Delgado will likely make the team as a reliever if he doesn't crack the rotation.
Nick Piecoro on Twitter
ImpactBarring injury, Delgado will no longer be part of the rotation following the Bronson Arroyo signing. However, he's out of options and the D'Backs don't want to lose him, so they'll keep him around as a reliever. Given that the fragile Brandon McCarthy is part of Arizona's starting five, it wouldn't be a surprise if Delgado winds up making plenty of starts.
Delgado rocked by SD in final start of 2013 | 09/26/2013 1:07 AM
NewsRandall Delgado was rocked for six runs on seven hits over five innings in a loss to the Padres on Wednesday.
ImpactThe right-hander struck out four and didn't walk a batter, but San Diego hit him hard. Homers by Jedd Gyorko and Tommy Medica accounted for half of the Friars' runs off Delgado. It was an unfortunate close to a decent season for Delgado, who had worked his first career shutout against San Diego earlier this year. The right-hander went 5-7 with a 4.26 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 116 1/3 innings in 2013.
Delgado allows two runs in no-decision | 09/20/2013 11:37 PM
NewsRandall Delgado allowed two runs over five innings in a no-decision against the Rockies on Friday.
ImpactDelgado gave up three hits and two walks while failing to strike out a batter. His only mistake was a two-run homer by opposing pitcher Jhoulys Chacin in the third inning, but it was enough to cost him a chance at the win. He'll finish his season with a start against the Padres next week in San Diego.
Delgado pitches well in win over Rockies | 09/15/2013 7:03 PM
NewsRandall Delgado pitched well in Sunday's victory over the Rockies, allowing just two runs on five hits over his six innings of work.
ImpactDelgado fanned three while issuing one free pass on the afternoon. The only blemish on his outing was a two-run homer off the bat of Charlie Cluberson in the fifth inning. It was a nice bounceback effort from Delgado after he was clobbered by the Dodgers on Monday. He'll carry a 3.98 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 75/21 K/BB ratio into Friday's rematch against these same Rockies in Colorado.
Delgado crushed for 4 HRs in 2 2/3 frames | 09/10/2013 1:17 AM
NewsRandall Delgado was blasted for five runs in just 2 2/3 innings in Monday's loss to the Dodgers.
ImpactArizona manager Kirk Gibson didn't have much of a choice. The Dodgers launched four homers off Delgado, including two from Juan Uribe (who finished with three). Delgado has allowed 13 homers in his last eight starts. Keeping the ball in the park is a necessity on Sunday against the Rockies in Arizona.
Randall Delgado strikes out six Blue Jays | 09/04/2013 6:37 PM
NewsRandall Delgado pitched seven innings of three-run ball Wednesday against the Blue Jays.
ImpactDelgado has kept the Diamondbacks in nearly every game he's pitched, but he hasn't been well rewarded for it. They won in extra innings today to move to 10-5 in his starts. Delgado, though, has a 4-5 record and a 3.69 ERA.
Randall Delgado takes loss in 1-0 game | 08/31/2013 1:05 AM
NewsRandall Delgado allowed just a run and three hits in seven innings Friday against the Giants.
ImpactUnfortunately, that was enough to hand him a loss in a 1-0 game. He's winless in his last five starts, though he's turned in three quality starts in the span and the Diamondbacks are 3-2 in those games. Delgado is 4-5 this season, but the Diamondbacks are 9-5 when he starts.
Delgado surrenders three runs in no-decision | 08/24/2013 11:48 PM
NewsRandall Delgado allowed three earned runs in six innings Saturday in a no-decision against the Phillies.
ImpactThe game went deep into extras. Delgado gave up only one walk and three hits -- but two of those hits were home runs. The 23-year-old has been more prone to big innings lately and isn't the safest bet in mixed leagues despite his sneaky-good 3.87 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 61/17 K/BB ratio in 83 2/3 total frames. He'll get the Giants next.
Randall Delgado loses to Reds | 08/19/2013 10:59 PM
NewsRandall Delgado surrendered five runs in six innings Monday in a loss to the Reds.
ImpactThe defeat snaps a streak of six straight wins in Delgado's starts for the Diamondbacks. Delgado pitched very well in a couple of those outings, but he now has a 6.00 ERA in his last four starts. The Diamondbacks figure to keep him in the rotation for now, but one more bad outing might get him replaced by Tyler Skaggs.
Delgado allows 3 runs in ND against Orioles | 08/14/2013 12:38 AM
NewsRandall Delgado gave up three runs on five hits over seven innings Tuesday in a no-decision against the Orioles.
ImpactThe right-hander struck out one and walked another. His night was doomed by a pair of home runs allowed to J.J. Hardy and Chris Davis which accounted for all three Baltimore runs. Delgado (4-4, 3.52 ERA) has surrendered 11 runs over three starts since he pitched a three-hitter against San Diego on July 26.
Delgado goes six innings in victory vs. BoSox | 08/02/2013 11:05 PM
NewsRandall Delgado notched his third straight victory Friday, despite allowing a season-high six runs (four earned) over six innings against the Red Sox.
ImpactHe is offense to thank for this one, as the Red Sox knocked him around pretty good, including two-run homers by David Ortiz and Stephen Drew. The Red Sox are a tough matchup for anyone right now, so the hiccup was understandable. He'll have a good chance to bounce back when he faces the Mets at home next week.
Randall Delgado shuts out the Padres | 07/27/2013 12:25 AM
NewsRandall Delgado pitched a three-hitter Friday in an 10-0 shutout of the Padres.
ImpactNot only was it Delgado's first shutout in 32 career starts, but it was his first complete game. He hadn't pitched more than seven innings in any of his previous seven starts this year. Delgado is 3-3 with a 2.85 ERA overall, eliminating any pressing need for the Diamondbacks to trade for a starter. He's not a good bet to remain at this level, though.
Delgado picks up win against Giants | 07/21/2013 7:16 PM
NewsRandall Delgado threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings in Sunday's win over the Giants.
ImpactHe gave up two hits and allowed four walks, but managed to come away with the win. Since being added to the Diamondbacks' rotation, Delgado has five quality starts in his last seven outings. Still, he'll likely be moved to the bullpen when Brandon McCarthy return from the DL.
Randall Delgado could stick around in relief | 07/14/2013 8:56 AM
NewsDiamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said Saturday that Randall Delgado could remain with the team as a reliever after Brandon McCarthy and Trevor Cahill return from the disabled list.
ImpactIf McCarthy's coming back, somebody's coming out of the rotation," Gibson said. "So is that person going to Triple-A or is he going to the bullpen? If you deserve to be here, you're going to be here, when it comes down to it." Delgado has posted a 3.65 ERA and 30/5 K/BB ratio over 37 frames as a starter with the D'Backs, so he certainly deserves to stick around.
Delgado goes seven strong, D'Backs beat Mets | 07/04/2013 12:27 AM
NewsRandall Delgado held the Mets to two runs in seven innings Wednesday in the Diamondbacks' 5-3 victory.
ImpactDelgado struck out nine batters and did not issue a walk in yet another decent outing. His only real blemishes were the solo home runs that he allowed to David Wright and Josh Satin in the bottom of the fourth inning. Delgado has a 3.67 ERA and 25/4 K/BB ratio in 27 total frames this season. He'll be put to the test next week when he faces the Dodgers at home.
Delgado pitches well in loss to Braves | 06/28/2013 10:53 PM
NewsRandall Delgado pitched well in a losing effort against the Braves on Friday, allowing two runs on eight hits over six innings.
ImpactDelgado fanned three, but also struggled with his command, issuing three walks and needing 106 pitches to get through six frames. He'll carry a 4.05 ERA and 16/4 K/BB ratio into Wednesday's start against the Mets in New York, where he'll again aim for his first victory on the season.
Delgado allows three runs in second start | 06/23/2013 9:17 PM
NewsRandall Delgado gave up three runs on six hits over five innings Sunday in a loss to the Reds.
ImpactDelgado was called up last week to replace Tyler Skaggs and has looked good in two spot starts. He only allowed one walk and had four strikeouts, but didn't receive any run support and was charged with the loss. Delgado should remain in the Diamondbacks' rotation until Brandon McCarthy returns from the DL.
Randall Delgado to start Sunday vs. Reds | 06/21/2013 6:12 PM
NewsRandall Delgado will start Sunday against the Reds.

ImpactDelgado gets another crack in the rotation after he allowed two runs in seven innings and struck out six Tuesday in a no-decision against the Marlins. The Reds are obviously a much tougher matchup, so he's more of an NL-only play.
Randall Delgado strikes out six Marlins | 06/19/2013 12:36 AM
NewsRandall Delgado yielded two runs in seven innings and struck out six Tuesday in a no-decision against the Marlins.
ImpactDelgado, who lost out on a rotation spot to Patrick Corbin this spring, was making his first start as a member of the Diamondbacks. He figures to get at least one more next week before a decision is made on his status. Since he won't be facing the Marlins again then (he could get the Reds on Sunday or the Nationals in the middle of the week), he won't be as good of a play in NL-only leagues.
D'Backs recall Randall Delgado from Triple-A | 06/18/2013 5:18 PM
NewsDiamondbacks recalled RHP Randall Delgado from Triple-A Reno.
ImpactDelgado is starting for the Snakes on Tuesday night against the Marlins. He has a troubling 5.91 ERA and 57/35 K/BB ratio in 64 innings this season at the Triple-A level and can't be trusted in standard fantasy leagues.
Delgado to start Tuesday vs. Marlins | 06/17/2013 5:14 PM
NewsRandall Delgado will be called up from Triple-A Reno to start Tuesday against the Marlins.
Arizona Diamondbacks on Twitter
ImpactHe'll take the rotation spot of Tyler Skaggs, who was sent down to the minors last week. Delgado has made one appearance with the Diamondbacks this season and owns a 5.91 ERA and 57/35 K/BB ratio in 64 innings over 13 starts at the Triple-A level. He's more of an option in NL-only leagues.
Randall Delgado optioned to Triple-A | 06/03/2013 11:19 PM
NewsDiamondbacks optioned RHP Randall Delgado to Triple-A Reno.
ImpactDelgado made one relief appearance in his short stay with the club, allowing two runs over two innings Monday. He's clearing room for the addition of Tuesday's starter, Tyler Skaggs.
Diamondbacks call up Randall Delgado | 06/01/2013 3:27 PM
NewsDiamondbacks recalled RHP Randall Delgado from Triple-A Reno.
ImpactIt's not clear if Delgado will be used as a starter, but he's taking Brandon McCarthy's place on the active roster. The 23-year-old has just a 6.84 ERA over 11 starts at the Triple-A level this season.

Delgado goes five innings in win over Dodgers | 03/18/2013 7:10 PM
NewsRandall Delgado bolstered his case for the fifth spot in Arizona's rotation on Monday by allowing two runs over five innings in a 5-3 win over the Dodgers.
ImpactDelgado kept the Dodgers off the board until a two-run single by Carl Crawford with one out in the bottom of the fifth. The young right-hander gave up six hits and a walk while notching three strikeouts. Tyler Skaggs was optioned to the minors on Monday, so the battle for the final rotation spot is down to Delgado and Patrick Corbin.
Delgado gives up five runs in one inning | 02/25/2013 7:06 PM
NewsRandall Delgado was knocked around for five runs (four earned) over just one inning of work Monday against the Royals.
ImpactDelgado gave up six hits, including five singles and a double. He didn't walk any batters and failed to record a strikeout. Acquired as part of the big Justin Upton deal, Delgado will need to do better than this in order to hold off Patrick Corbin and Tyler Skaggs for the fifth spot in Arizona's rotation.
Snakes land Delgado in Justin Upton deal | 01/24/2013 2:21 PM
NewsDiamondbacks acquired RHP Randall Delgado from the Braves in the seven-player Justin Upton trade.
ImpactDelgado, a 22-year-old from Panama, has posted a cool 3.95 ERA in 127 2/3 career major league innings. He's projected to eventually develop into a front-line starter, and his arsenal of pitches that sink and fade should fit well at Chase Field. He'll be in the running for the Diamondbacks' final rotation spot this spring.
