NewsEdward Mujica gave up a three-run homer after getting just one out in the 12th inning Wednesday against the Indians.
ImpactThat's five homers allowed for Mujica this year. He's been terribly ineffective in the first season of a two-year, $9 million contract, amassing a 7.29 ERA to date. Furthermore, he doesn't have a single hold in his 22 appearances.

Edward Mujica takes blown save | 04/17/2014 1:49 AM
NewsEdward Mujica took a blown save after giving up a run in the 10th inning Wednesday against the White Sox.
ImpactLast year, Mujica took his first loss and blown save of the season on July 4. By that time, he had already pitched 34 1/3 innings. This year, he already has one of each. One wonders how much longer he'll be trusted as Koji Uehara's fallback.
Edward Mujica notches save against Yankees | 04/11/2014 10:32 PM
NewsEdward Mujica -- not Koji Uehara -- pitched a perfect ninth inning to notch a save against the Yankees on Friday.
ImpactUehara experienced some slight shoulder soreness while playing catch Friday, so the Red Sox decided to hold him out. It's being called precautionary and there are no plans to send him for tests right now, but Mujica will close until he's ready to return. Pick him up where available in fantasy leagues.
Edward Mujica earns first spring save | 03/25/2014 4:25 PM
NewsEdward Mujica picked up his first save of the spring Tuesday against the Rays.

Mujica, Miller insurance at closer for BoSox | 02/25/2014 12:48 PM
NewsRed Sox manager John Farrell said Tuesday that Edward Mujica and possibly Andrew Miller would be the first choices to close if Koji Uehara is unavailable.
Scott Lauber on Twitter
ImpactMujica functioned as the Cardinals' closer for most of last season, so it's not surprising that Farrell considers him next in line for saves. However, Miller's control would likely prevent him from being trusted as a full-time closer. Of course, the Red Sox are hoping that Uehara will stay healthy for the entire season.
Edward Mujica says shoulder is perfectly fine | 12/07/2013 2:04 PM
NewsJason Mastrodonato of Masslive.com reports that Edward Mujica declared his shoulder "100 percent fine".
Jason Mastrodonato on Twitter
ImpactMujica underwent a physical on Thursday after reaching an agreement with the Red Sox, and it doesn't appear that there were any red flags to prevent the deal from happening. The 29-year-old hurler dealt with shoulder fatigue near the end of the regular season, but it doesn't seem like it will be an issue moving forward. Expect Mujica to be second in line for saves in what's shaping up to be a very strong Red Sox bullpen.
Red Sox sign Edward Mujica to two-year deal | 12/07/2013 11:52 AM
NewsRed Sox signed Edward Mujica to a two-year, $9.5 million contract.

ImpactThe contract is only pending a physical, which is scheduled for Thursday. Mujica fell apart down the stretch for the Cardinals this fall, but he was unhittable for most of the summer and the Red Sox will hope that he can recapture the magic on his split-change with a full offseason of rest. Mujica joins closer Koji Uehara, Junichi Tazawa and Craig Breslow in what could be a very good Boston bullpen again in 2014.

NewsFOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles are interested in Edward Mujica and John Axford.
Ken Rosenthal on Twitter
ImpactThis confirms a report from Andrew Rickli. The Orioles are on the lookout for a closer after trading Jim Johnson, with Mujica and Axford likely to sign at lesser rates than some of the high-profile options available in free agency. It could be a savvy way to use some of the cost-savings from dealing Johnson.
Several teams interested in Edward Mujica | 11/29/2013 6:21 PM
NewsChris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports that the Orioles, Indians, Cubs and Phillies are interested in free agent reliever Edward Mujica.
MLB Daily Dish
ImpactCotillo notes that Mujica is expected to receive a contract similar to the three-year, $15.75 million deal that Joe Smith inked with the Angels. The 29-year-old right-hander notched 37 saves for the Cardinals this season, while posting a 2.78 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and impeccable 46/5 K/BB ratio in 64 2/3 innings. His fantasy value will be entirely dependent on how close he is to save chances in the respective bullpen he winds up in.

NewsYahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan reports that the Phillies are "strongly pursuing" setup men, including Edward Mujica.
Jeff Passan on Twitter
ImpactHe adds that they're willing to give a three-year deal to land someone for the eighth inning. Mujica will have trouble landing a closing job after the way his season ended, but it sounds like getting a healthy deal as a setup man won't be an issue. The 29-year-old held a 2.78 ERA with 37 saves for the Cardinals this past season but dealt with shoulder issues and had an 11.05 mark over his final 7 1/3 regular-season innings.

ImpactEdward Mujica has had a terrible month and acknowledged Friday night that he is feeling overall fatigue. Trevor Rosenthal is probably the guy to own in fantasy leagues, but Cardinals manager Mike Matheny will likely use a matchup-to-matchup approach. Kevin Siegrist is a darkhorse for save opportunities down the stretch.

NewsEdward Mujica allowed two runs on three hits and a walk over one-third of an inning Friday against the Brewers.
ImpactAfter entering the bottom of the ninth inning with a 6-4 lead, Mujica gave up an RBI single and loaded the bases before giving way to John Axford, who eventually allowed the tying run to score on an infield single by Aramis Ramirez. While Mujica has been untouchable for most of the season, he has a 9.45 ERA over eight appearances this month. We could have a closer controversy on our hands here.
Edward Mujica blows fourth save | 09/19/2013 8:35 PM
NewsEdward Mujica blew his fourth save of the season in Thursday's extra innings loss to the Rockies.
ImpactTodd Helton took Mujica deep with a towering blast to right field to lead off the ninth. He then allowed a two-out double but escaped further damage. Mujica has now allowed at least two hits in eight of his last 11 outings and holds a 5.40 ERA and 1.70 WHIP over that time. His job is safe, though, especially since Trevor Rosenthal hasn't been his usual dominant self lately.

NewsEdward Mujica earned a one-out save Saturday in the Cardinals' victory over the Braves.

The Cardinals are saying it's only fatigue, though, with GM John Mozeliak describing Mujica as "100 percent good to go" from a health standpoint. With Trevor Rosenthal having appeared the last two days and the Cards wanting to avoid Michael Wacha on back-to-back day, the club could use Seth Maness in a potential save chance Friday.

He remained in the game to close out a win, though he did give up a long home run in the process. The closer said he's "not concerned about it," but Cardinals manager Mike Matheny said the team will "give him days when we can." Mujica owners should grab Trevor Rosenthal as insurance.
Mujica unavailable in Chicago due to fatigue | 08/19/2013 8:26 AM
NewsEdward Mujica was unavailable for the Cardinals' weekend series in Chicago due to general fatigue.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactMujica worked two innings three times in a four-game span last week, and it all caught up to him when the Cardinals flew up to Wrigley Field on Thursday night. "We had to back him up a couple of times with extra-inning games and having to go multiple innings," said manager Mike Matheny. "That's just not something he was ready for." Mujica expects to be fine for Monday's series opener in Milwaukee, but Trevor Rosenthal makes for a worthwhile stash in mixed fantasy leagues just in case.

Howie Kendrick and Mark Trumbo followed with singles while Erick Aybar later delivered a two-out RBI single to end it. Mujica has been so good for this season that something like this was bound to happen some point. Edward Mujica nails down impressive save | 04/30/2013 10:48 PM
NewsEdward Mujica recorded an impressive save Tuesday, striking out Joey Votto, Brandon Phillips and Jay Bruce in order to preserve the Cardinals' one-run victory.
ImpactMujica has benefited from not having to face the meat of the opposing teams' order in a few of his saves, but this one was no cheapie.
