|Assets:||Is ridiculously consistent with the bat. A phenomenal clutch player, he is smooth at short and efficient on the base-paths. His instincts are also first-rate. Has tremendous gap-to-gap power.|
|Flaws:||Has limited range in the field, which places extra burden on groundball pitchers. Also makes a few too many errors. Is a slow starter. Due to advanced age, he's in decline.|

ImpactJeter is hitless over the last six games (22 at-bats). The Captain's "Goodbye Tour" is going out on a mediocre note. NewsYankees shortstop Derek Jeter went 1-for-3 in his farewell day at Yankee Stadium on Sunday against the Royals.
ImpactJeter hit a single. Even though we all love Derek Jeter (the New York Daily News tells us so every day), it is nice to see him go out this year while he is still somewhat on top of his game. He is a shell of himself, but he is hitting .260, which is the fourth highest in the Yankee lineup, with 19 extra-base hits and 40 RBI. The Captain's "Goodbye Tour" is going out on a mediocre note. He's batting .261 with three homers, 39 RBI and 41 runs scored. Fantasy owners should simply remember the future Hall of Fame member is a career .310 hitter with an .818 OPS over 20 seasons and smile for what he's done for you in the past ... and leave him on your bench.

The Yankee captain is hitting .207 with four extra-base hits, including one home run, and a poor .622 OPS in 25 games this month. The debate of whether he should continue to bat second in the lineup will rage on at least another day.

NewsNew York shortstop Derek Jeter is not in Thursday afternoon's starting lineup.
ImpactJeter hasn't done much this year (.270, 2 HR, 27 RBI in 89 games) but at least he's been able to stay healthy for his "goodbye tour." It's surprising he's getting Thursday's game off, however, as he's 3-for-5 with two homers versus Rangers starter Colby Lewis. Brendan Ryan will get the start.

ImpactJeter singled to lead off the bottom of the fifth inning before Jacoby Ellsbury put the Yankees ahead with a two-run home run. The Captain hasn't had the smoothest ride in his swan song, but he has four multi-hit games in his last six. He's batting .275/.326/.325 over 84 games.
Jeter goes 2-for-2 in final All-Star Game | 07/15/2014 11:44 PM
NewsDerek Jeter went 2-for-2 at the plate and scored a run Tuesday in his final All-Star Game.
ImpactJeter doubled to right field to kick off the bottom of the first inning before scoring on a Mike Trout triple. He then had a bloop single to right field in the third inning before eventually being removed on defense in the fourth to a standing ovation. Jeter also nearly made a terrific play on defense to start off the game, making a diving stop on an Andrew McCutchen grounder before 'Cutch narrowly beat the throw at first. He could have easily been named MVP in a symbolic gesture, but it was probably even more symbolic to see Mike Trout win the award as a sort of passing of the torch to the new generation of players.

NewsDerek Jeter finished 2-for-4 with a double, stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Rays.
ImpactJeter has strung together a modest seven-game hitting streak in which he's batting 10-for-28 (.357) with four runs scored, four RBI and two stolen bases. Left for dead after a slow start to the year, the veteran is now batting .276/.330/.334 in his farewell tour.
Jeter homers, but Yankees lose to the Jays | 06/24/2014 10:18 PM
NewsDerek Jeter went 1-for-4 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.
ImpactJeter's sixth-inning blast off of Mark Buehrle was the Yankees' first run of the game, the first step in their eventual erasure of a six-run deficit. It was a rare display of power for the Hall of Fame shortstop. Jeter is now slashing .267/.322/.327 with two home runs and 17 RBI on the season.
Jeter goes 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs | 06/13/2014 1:16 AM
NewsDerek Jeter finished 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBI and two runs scored to push the Yankees to a 6-3 victory over the Mariners on Thursday.
ImpactThis was Jeter's last trip to Seattle -- where his career began in May 1995 -- and he made it count. He went 7-for-12 with two walks and four runs scored during the three-game series. On Wednesday, he had two steals, the first time he'd swiped multiple bases in a contest since Sept. 25, 2009 versus the Red Sox. That game left him with 351 steals, allowing Jeter to join Craig Biggio and Rickey Henderson as the only players with at least 3,000 hits, 250 homers and 350 steals, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Of course, he'd been one of the worst everyday players in baseball prior to this series. Even after it, Jeter is slashing a modest .271/.331/.320 with just one homer and 14 RBI over 225 at-bats.
Jeter's four-hit day leads Yanks past Sox | 05/25/2014 7:09 PM
NewsDerek Jeter went 4-for-5 with two RBI to help the Yankees beat the White Sox 7-1 on Sunday.
ImpactJeter tripled to go with three singles, and he also scored a run in the game. The triple was his first of the season. Up to game speed after scuffling early on, Jeter has brought his line up to .275/.342/.329 for the season. It's good to see The Captain is still able to swing it despite this being his final hurrah.
Derek Jeter goes 3-for-4 in loss | 05/12/2014 11:08 PM
NewsDerek Jeter went 3-for-4 with a walk Monday versus the Mets.
ImpactYet somehow, even with the Yankees scoring seven times, Jeter went without a run scored or an RBI. He has just eight runs scored and seven RBI for the year, even though he's played in 30 games as a No. 2 hitter in a pretty good lineup. That's going to have to improve, but even so, he just doesn't offer much in fantasy leagues.
Jeter has big series, NYY wins 2 of 3 at LAA | 05/08/2014 1:21 AM
NewsDerek Jeter went 2-for-5 with a homer and two runs scored in Wednesday's 9-2 victory over the Angels.
ImpactPerhaps Jeter needed warm California air to wake him up after an extended layoff. The veteran entered this series batting .240 with zero power and in an 0-14 streak, and then he went 5-for-10 with a walk, double and his first homer of the year as the Bombers took two of three. It was good to see, but his fantasy prognosis doesn't change much. He's simply no longer an asset. Jeter is slashing .262/.336/.327 over 27 games.
SS Jeter collects 2 hits, ends wretched slump | 05/06/2014 1:24 AM
NewsDerek Jeter went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored Monday in a 4-1 loss to the Angels.
ImpactDuring a frustrating night in which Joe Girardi and Shawn Kelley were both ejected for jawing with home plate umpire Laz Diaz over balls and strikes, Jeter was just about the only Yankee who enjoyed himself. In so doing, the legendary shortstop yanked himself out of a 4-for-30 slump that featured no extra-base hits and only one walk. Jeter's farewell tour hasn't been pleasant thus far, and he's slashing .250/.318/.290.

Derek Jeter goes 0-for-7 for first time | 05/03/2014 1:17 AM
NewsDerek Jeter went 0-for-7 for the first time in his illustrious career in Friday's 14-inning loss to the Rays.
ImpactJeter had gone 0-for-6 four times, most recently on May 11, 2011. The seventh at-bat was particularly disappointing for him tonight; after the Rays intentionally walked Jacoby Ellsbury to load the bases in the 13th tonight, Jeter hit a grounder right back to Heath Bell to end the inning.
Derek Jeter loses 11-game hitting streak | 04/23/2014 10:57 PM
NewsDerek Jeter lost his 11-game hitting streak with an 0-for-4 against the Red Sox on Wednesday.
ImpactJeter had raised his average from .182 to .298 during the stretch. Unfortunately, he's been a zero elsewhere for fantasy purposes; he's yet to homer or steal a base and he has just four runs scored and four RBI despite hitting from the second spot in the Yankees lineup.

ImpactJeter grounded into his second double play and is 0-for-7 so far this spring. The error came on a pretty tough hop, so that wasn't a big deal. He still seems to be moving pretty well at shortstop and on his groundouts, so the Yankees won't be concerned about the slow start.

ImpactJeter has already been in Tampa for a couple weeks, hitting in the batting cage and fielding grounders. "You can tell he's determined to go out there and do well," Phelps said. "If you had to place a bet on it, you know he's going to go out there and have a good year. I'm really looking forward to seeing him play again. He's having a lot of fun right now." You certainly wouldn't expect Phelps to say anything bad about his teammate, but it's an encouraging first-hand account. ImpactJeter could have opted for free agency if he did not accept a $9.5 million club option, but the Yankees bumped his salary up to $12 million just to make sure he'd stick around. In reality, he wasn't going to go anywhere, regardless. The shortstop was limited to just 17 games this season, as his recovering from ankle surgery went slowly and he then had multiple setbacks. However, he'll have a normal offseason and the Yanks expect him to bounce back in 2014.
