|Assets:||Shows a very good eye and patience at the plate, helping him hit for a high average with gap power. A good all-round run-producer, he also brings a solid glove anywhere he plays--in the outfield or infield.|
|Flaws:||Doesn't have top-tier range and speed, limiting him somewhat in the field and on the bases. His lack of speed is what's missing from his table-setting arsenal. Also lacks big home-run power.|
|Career Potential:||Excellent contact hitter with versatility.|

NewsMartin Prado went 3-for-4 in Wednesday's loss to the Mets.
ImpactPrado had just two hits in his previous 20 at-bats coming into the game. The third baseman didn't cross the plate, as the scuffling Diamondbacks' offense registered only two solo home runs on the day, but he's still scored 10 runs through the team's first 18 games.

NewsMartin Prado went 3-for-4 with a run scored in Tuesday's loss to the Giants.
ImpactThey were all singles, but Prado will take it after he entered the game hitting just .216. Unfortunately for the Diamondbacks, no one else had more than one hit and they mustered just seven base knocks total. Prado has batted cleanup in every game this season for Arizona.

NewsMartin Prado singled twice and doubled in four at-bats against the Cubs on Thursday.
ImpactPrado drove in a run with a fifth-inning double, putting the D'Backs on the board for the first time. He is looking to build on a successful 2013, now going into his second year with Arizona. Prado will log a majority of his playing time at third base, but offers his team the ability to play second base and left field when needed.
Martin Prado hits first homer of September | 09/26/2013 9:58 PM
NewsMartin Prado hit his first homer in a month to give the Diamondbacks their only two runs Thursday against the Padres.
ImpactAfter a scorching July and August, Prado has faded again in September (he entered with a .241 average this month). At least he's gritted his way to more RBI than Justin Upton this year. He's currently at 81, while Upton has just 67.

NewsMartin Prado went 1-for-4 with a two-run double and a run scored in Friday's loss to the Phillies.
ImpactPrado's RBI double off Cole Hamels gave the D'Backs the lead in the fourth inning, but they were unable to hold on. He's been on an absolute tear at the plate in recent weeks, hitting .351 (46-for-131) with four homers and 27 RBI in 32 games since the All-Star break.
Prado homers, scores twice in win over Reds | 08/20/2013 9:57 PM
NewsMartin Prado went 2-for-4 with a home run against the Reds on Tuesday.
ImpactPrado started slowly in his new surroundings but he's made up for it recently. He's destroying the month of August, as he's now 29-for-75 (.387) with three home runs and 18 RBI. He also ran his hitting streak to eight games with the home run in the fourth inning. The hot streak has raised his average to a more-representative .282 for the season.

The 29-year-old is now hitting .350 (21-for-60) with 11 RBI over his last 15 games. While he has been a disappointment so far this season, a big second half wouldn't be surprising.
Prado goes 3-for-4 but D'Backs fall to Mets | 07/02/2013 11:25 PM
NewsMartin Prado went 3-for-4 with a home run Tuesday in the Diamondbacks' loss to the Mets.
ImpactThe home run -- a solo shot -- was his seventh of the season. Prado has begun to show signs of life lately but still owns a hideous .252/.301/.365 batting line.
Martin Prado goes deep versus Nationals | 06/25/2013 10:40 PM
NewsMartin Prado singled and ripped a solo homer in Tuesday's loss to the Nationals.
ImpactThe D'Backs pounded out 14 hits against the Nats but only managed to scrape out four runs. Prado has homered in two of his last five games but has been a big disappointment for fantasy owners this season, sporting just a .241/.292/.348 batting line.
Prado goes 1-for-4 Monday against the Marlins | 06/18/2013 4:40 AM
NewsMartin Prado went 1-for-4 Monday against the Marlins.
ImpactOwners hoping for Prado to shake his season-long slump as the weather began heating up have been disappointed, as June has been the veteran's worst at the plate thus far. ImpactPrado has put together two straight multi-hit games after going 3-for-4 on Saturday and looks to be moving in the right direction. He's batting .277/.304/.361 with four doubles and three RBI in May after a sluggish start to the season.
Martin Prado in a 2-for-19 slump | 05/22/2013 6:13 PM
NewsMartin Prado went 0-for-4 on Wednesday and has fallen into a 2-for-19 slump.
ImpactPrado is still hitting for a better average this month and he did in April, but that's not saying much. He's gone 12 straight games without scoring a run. He has two runs scored and four RBI in 20 games overall for the month. And not only is his season OBP a lousy .283, but he's been caught on three of his four steal attempts. Good thing the Diamondbacks gave him that four-year, $40 million deal before some team could blow them out of the water this winter.
Prado slowly working way out of slump | 05/17/2013 3:00 AM
NewsMartin Prado is batting .275 in May.
ImpactSlowly but surely, Prado is digging himself out of an awful early-season slump. In his first month with the Snakes, Prado slashed an anemic .217/.266/.348. Over 15 games this month, he's batting a reasonable .275/.339/.333. It's certainly not the start Arizona expected after acquiring Prado in the Justin Upton trade and subsequently signed him to a four-year, $40 million contract extension. Sporting his trademark multi-position eligibility and playing in cozy Chase Field, now might be the time to buy low. Prado entered the year a .319/.370/.447 career hitter in Arizona.

NewsMartin Prado went 0-for-5 and grounded into a double play on Friday, dropping his average to .218.
ImpactPrado isn't exactly matching Justin Upton's production so far. He does have three homers, but he's in a 6-for-44 slump and he hasn't driven in a run in eight games.
Martin Prado reaches four times | 04/13/2013 1:04 AM
NewsMartin Prado reached all four times up Friday, going 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI.
ImpactThe RBI came on a bases-loaded walk. But despite reaching four times, Prado never did come around to score tonight. It's kind of off, considering he had scored 10 runs with a .298 OBP in his first nine games.
Martin Prado off to slow start | 04/12/2013 12:00 PM
NewsMartin Prado is batting just .273/.298/.409 with one homer and four RBI this season.
ImpactThe offseason trade acquisition is off to a bit of a slow start so far. Prado still holds plenty of fantasy appeal in his first season in the desert, though, especially with his multi-position eligibility.
D'Backs reach four-year, $40M deal with Prado | 01/31/2013 2:05 PM
NewsDiamondbacks signed 3B Martin Prado to a four-year, $40 million contract extension.
Ken Rosenthal on Twitter
ImpactThe four-year deal covers Prado's final season of arbitration eligibility and his first three seasons of free agency. Prado was dealt from the Braves to the Snakes last week in the seven-player Justin Upton trade. He batted .301/.359/.438 with 10 home runs, 70 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 156 games last summer for Atlanta, and should get a slight boost in fantasy value in Arizona.

NewsBob Nightengale of USA Today reports that the Diamondbacks are "quite optimistic" about soon agreeing to a three- or four-year extension with Martin Prado.
Bob Nightengale on Twitter
ImpactPrado is currently due to become a free agent following the 2013 season, but the Diamondbacks picked him up from the Braves on Thursday with the idea of keeping him for the long-term. The 29-year-old batted .301/.359/.438 with 10 homers, 70 RBI and 17 steals in 156 games last season for the Braves and is slated to be Arizona's starting third baseman moving forward.
Diamondbacks 'confident' in Prado extension | 01/24/2013 4:46 PM
NewsThe Diamondbacks are "confident" they can work out a long-term extension with newly-acquired third baseman Martin Prado, according to CBS Sports' Danny Knobler.
Danny Knobler on Twitter
ImpactThe two sides have already had discussions about a new deal. Prado, who turned 29 years old in October, is currently scheduled to become a free agent after the 2013 season. He hit .301/.359/.438 with 10 homers, 70 RBI and 17 steals in 156 games last summer for the Braves and was moved Thursday in the seven-player Justin Upton trade. Prado is likely to be expensive.
Prado heads to Arizona in Justin Upton trade | 01/24/2013 2:26 PM
NewsDiamondbacks acquired 3B Martin Prado from the Braves in the seven-player Justin Upton trade.
ImpactPrado is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2013 season but the Snakes have already begun negotiations toward a long-term contract extension. The dynamic 29-year-old hit .301/.359/.438 with 10 home runs, 70 RBI and 17 stolen bases in 156 games last season for the Braves. He's a .319/.370/.447 career hitter at Arizona's Chase Field and should carry a ton of fantasy value this summer.
D'Backs plan to do long-term deal with Prado | 01/24/2013 1:09 PM
NewsAccording to Jack Magruder of FOX Sports Southwest, the Diamondbacks plan to sign a long-term extension "soon" with newly-acquired third baseman Martin Prado.
Jack Magruder on Twitter
ImpactPrado is headed to Arizona in the yet-to-be-finalized Justin Upton blockbuster. The 29-year-old third baseman is currently scheduled to hit the free agent market after the 2013 season. He batted .301/.359/.438 with 10 home runs, 70 RBI and 17 steals in 156 games last summer and will hold major fantasy potential in Arizona.
Prado files for $7.05M in arbitration | 01/18/2013 6:36 PM
NewsMartin Prado requested $7.05 million and was offered $6.65 million from the Braves when arbitration figures were exchanged Friday.
Jon Heyman on Twitter
ImpactPrado is arbitration-eligible for the final time this winter after batting .301/.359/.438 with 10 home runs, 70 RBI and a .796 OPS in 156 games last season. There isn't much of a difference between the two sides, so they should be able to meet somewhere around the midpoint.
