NewsGiants right fielder Hunter Pence went 3-for-5 with a triple and two RBI Monday at Philadelphia.
ImpactPence has batted .352 in July after hitting over .300 in each of the previous two months. With 12 home runs, 37 RBI and nine steals, he's nowhere close to matching last year's 27 homers, 99 RBI and 22 steals, but he's batting .303 and has scored 71 runs.

Pence goes 2-for-4 as Giants topple A's | 07/10/2014 1:25 AM
NewsHunter Pence went 2-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and a run scored as the Giants topped the A's 5-2 on Wednesday.
ImpactPence is 36-for-105 (.343) over his last 25 games. This is his second consecutive multi-hit game against the A's, which is no surprise from a player who went 5-for-8 with a homer against Oakland in San Francisco last year. The outfielder is batting .302/.361/.478 and is on pace for 21 homers and 116 RBI.
Pence scores three times as Giants top Padres | 07/06/2014 11:10 PM
NewsHunter Pence went 3-for-4 with three runs scored as the Giants topped the Padres 5-3 on Sunday.
ImpactPence fulfilled the part of the leadoff hitter on Sunday, swatting two singles and a double and scoring all three times he reached base. The three-hit day also served to raise his average above the .300 plateau, as he's now batting .301/.360/.472 with 64 runs scored. The outfielder is second in the NL in runs scored, behind on Troy Tulowitzki.
Hunter Pence getting bumped to leadoff spot | 07/03/2014 9:20 AM
NewsHunter Pence is moving to leadoff for the Giants.
San Francisco Chronicle
ImpactGregor Blanco is in a bad slump, so manager Bruce Bochy will try a different look at the top of his lineups. This should result in more runs for Pence, but probably fewer RBI. He's batting .295/.355/.467 in 369 plate appearances, primarily as the Giants' No. 2 hitter.
Pence has two hit effort in win over Cards | 07/02/2014 1:05 AM
NewsHunter Pence finished 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored in the Giants' 5-0 win over the Cardinals on Tuesday.
ImpactInterestingly, Pence's batting average has dropped two points to .295 during his current six-game hitting streak. Because he's hit out of the No. 2 hole, Pence's RBI opportunities are limited. The trade off is that he ranks second in the National League with 60 runs scored. On pace for 21 homers, 61 RBI and 14 steals, Pence has been a steady fantasy contributor all season.
Pence has two more hits, run scored Sunday | 06/23/2014 12:09 AM
NewsHunter Pence went 2-for-4 with a run scored in Sunday's win over the Diamondbacks.
ImpactPence has been a hitting machine of late, as Sunday's two-hit day was his seventh multi-hit game in his last nine. He's also scored 10 runs in that span, giving him 56 runs scored for the year. That mark is third-most in the National League to go with a strong .302/.369/.483 line.
Pence lifts 10th home run against White Sox | 06/18/2014 12:35 AM
NewsHunter Pence went 2-for-5 with his 10th home run of the season against the White Sox on Tuesday.
ImpactPence took White Sox starter John Danks deep to left in the first inning, his second home run in his last three games. The homer gives him 52 runs scored on the season, good for third-most in the National League. Overall, the 31-year-old is batting .299/.367/.480 for the year.
Hunter Pence reaches five times in win | 06/12/2014 7:09 PM
NewsHunter Pence reached base five times in Thursday's win over the Nationals, going 3-for-3 with two walks.
ImpactUnfortunately, all of that goodness resulted in just one run scored and no RBI. Despite performing a little better than he did last year, Pence is currently at 70 runs scored+RBI through 68 games (last year, he came in at 190). He'd have a little more fantasy value batting third or fourth than he does hitting second, where RBI opportunities have been very limited.
Hunter Pence goes 3-for-4 in Giants' win | 06/08/2014 2:11 AM
NewsHunter Pence went 3-for-4 and scored the winning run on Michael Morse's ninth-inning single as the Giants beat the Mets 5-4 on Saturday.
ImpactPence doubled in Angel Pagan to tie the game against Jenrry Mejia in the ninth before coming around to score on Morse's only hit of the ninth. It was Pence's eighth three-hit game of the season, as he raised his average to .293. He's not getting as many chances to drive in runs now that he's the No. 2 hitter in the Giants lineup, but he's scored 45 times in 63 games. That puts him in a tie with Giancarlo Stanton for third place behind Troy Tulowitzki (50) and Paul Goldschmidt (46) in the NL.
Pence finishes 3-for-4 with a homer vs. Reds | 06/03/2014 10:26 PM
NewsHunter Pence went 3-for-4 with a double and a solo home run in Tuesday's loss to the Reds.
ImpactPence provided the Giants' only consistent source of offense, homering in the first and doubling in the third, ultimately finishing a triple short of the cycle. Pence's OPS fell to .700 as recently as May 12, but with Tuesday's effort, it's now at .839. He has eight home runs, 22 RBI, seven stolen bases, and a .293/.363/.476 slash line on the season.
Pence slams three-run homer vs. Cards | 05/31/2014 12:47 AM
NewsHunter Pence went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer and two runs scored Friday in a win over the Cardinals.
ImpactHis three-run blast was the big blow in a four-run second inning against Adam Wainwright. Pence has only knocked in 21 runs through 56 games, but he has made up for it with seven home runs, seven stolen bases, and 42 runs scored.
Pence has homer, three runs scored vs. Twins | 05/25/2014 8:34 PM
NewsHunter Pence went 3-for-4 with a home run and three runs scored in Sunday's win over the Twins.
ImpactThe homer was his sixth of the season, a solo shot off Twins starter Ricky Nolasco in the third inning. It's shaping up to be another successful year for the outfielder, who's hitting .294/.369/.472 with six stolen bases. He's somewhat quietly also scored 38 runs, second-most in the National League.
Hunter Pence goes 4-for-5, homers in win | 05/14/2014 7:45 PM
NewsHunter Pence went 4-for-5 with a homer and three RBI to lead the Giants to a 10-4 win over the Braves on Wednesday.
ImpactPence's third homer of the season came as the second batter of the game. He entered with just 10 RBI all season, a product of him primarily batting second in the Giants lineup. Still, he hasn't been the same kind of power hitter he was last year, when he finished with 27 homers.
Hunter Pence scores four times | 05/06/2014 12:57 AM
NewsHunter Pence had three hits and scored four times against the Pirates on Monday.
ImpactIt's the first time in his Giants career and fourth time overall that Pence has scored four runs in a game. For the season, Pence has 23 runs scored, but just nine RBI, a function of him often batting second in the Giants lineup. Obviously, more RBI would be nice, but he's getting extra at-bats and steal opportunities batting second, which should prove to be a fine tradeoff.
Hunter Pence goes hitless in defeat | 04/19/2014 11:28 PM
NewsHunter Pence went 0-for-4 on Saturday to drop his average to .188.
ImpactPence has swiped four bases in the early going, but he has just one homer and three RBI in 69 at-bats. He's part of the reason the Giants have lost their last three games by a combined score of 7-3.
Hunter Pence to hit second for Giants | 03/27/2014 8:12 PM
NewsGiants manager Bruce Bochy indicated Thursday that Hunter Pence will be his No. 2 hitter while Marco Scutaro (back) is on the disabled list.
San Francisco Chronicle
Impact"This could be our lineup," Bochy said of Thursday's batting order, which had Pence in the two-hole. Pence will be moving up from the No. 5 spot, which means his RBI total will take a hit but he should score a few more runs. Pablo Sandoval, Michael Morse and Brandon Crawford will each move up a spot in the order. Pence figures to drop back down to the five-hole when Scutaro returns, but it's unclear when that might be.
Pence hits fifth spring homer vs. Rockies | 03/26/2014 6:42 PM
NewsHunter Pence went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run against the Rockies on Wednesday.
ImpactPence took LaTroy Hawkins deep in the seventh inning, his fifth of the spring. He has been among the best hitters across spring training as he is now hitting .362 in 58 at-bats. Pence was a valuable fantasy asset last year, blasting 27 homers, stealing 22 bags, and posting an .822 OPS.
Hunter Pence goes deep in loss to Athletics | 03/15/2014 9:18 PM
NewsHunter Pence blasted his fourth home run of Cactus League play, accounting for the Giants only offense in Saturday's loss to the Athletics.
ImpactPence's homer came courtesy of Fernando Abad in the sixth inning. He finished the day 2-for-3, and is slashing a healthy .313/.353/.813 on the spring season.
Hunter Pence homers twice to propel Giants | 03/14/2014 7:18 PM
NewsHunter Pence swatted a pair of solo homers on Friday, propelling the Giants to a 4-0 victory over the Rockies in Cactus League Play.
ImpactOne homer would've been sufficient, as Madison Bumgarner and the Giants staff held the Rockies scoreless on just two hits in the contest. He's now blasted three homers on the spring season, but has whiffed 10 times already in 29 at-bats.
Pence (elbow), Morse (calf) likely out Sunday | 03/08/2014 6:42 PM
NewsHunter Pence (left elbow) and Mike Morse (calf) are both expected to miss Sunday's game, reports John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle.

ImpactPence's elbow flared up on a swing Saturday, while Morse's calf bit at him in Friday's game. Neither injury is considered serious.
Hunter Pence homers as Giants top Royals | 03/07/2014 10:48 PM
NewsHunter Pence launched his first home run of the Cactus League season, powering the Giants to a 5-0 victory over the Royals on Friday.
ImpactPence's solo shot came off Wade Davis in the sixth inning, increasing the Giants advantage to 3-0. The 30-year-old outfielder was one of the biggest surprises of the 2013 fantasy season, chipping in a career-high 22 steals to go with terrific production across the board. While a full repeat shouldn't be expected, Pence should once again be a solid contributor in five categories.
Pence delivers walk-off winner vs. Padres | 09/29/2013 9:25 PM
NewsHunter Pence plated another three runs on Sunday, leading the Giants to a 7-6 victory over the Padres in the regular season finale.
ImpactPence finished the day 2-for-5. His two-run single in the seventh inning pulled the Giants to within a run at 6-5, then provided the Giants with a walk-off win with his RBI single off Huston Street in the ninth. The charismatic 30-year-old outfielder wraps up the finest season of his career with a .283/.339/.483 line, 27 homers, 91 runs, 99 RBI and 22 stolen bases.

The outfielder has batted .282/.339/.484 for the Giants this year and has reached career highs in home runs (27) and stolen bases (22).

NewsHunter Pence celebrated his recently signed contract extension by belting his 27th homer of the season in a losing effort against the Padres on Saturday.
ImpactPence finished the afternoon 1-for-4. His two run shot off Padres hurler Eric Stults briefly put the Giants ahead 3-1, but would wind up being the extent of their offensive production. Pence is now slashing a strong .282/.339/.484 on the year with 27 bombs, 96 RBI and 22 stolen bases.
Giants, Pence agree on 5-year, $90M deal | 09/28/2013 1:37 PM
NewsThe Giants and Hunter Pence have agreed on a five-year, $90 million contract.
Alex Pavlovic on Twitter
ImpactThis deal sure came together quickly after it was reported this morning that the two sides were close to an agreement. The deal will keep Pence in San Francisco through his age-35 season. It's a nice payday after a stellar offensive campaign in 2013, but one has to wonder how much more he could've earned had he decided to test the open market.

NewsAccording to reports, the Giants and Hunter Pence could be nearing a deal on a new contract to keep the would-be free agent outfielder in San Francisco.
MLB Trade Rumors
ImpactPence acknowledged on Friday that the discussions were gaining traction, and that the Giants were close to getting back to him with a serious offer. After a monstrous offensive effort this season in which he's hit .282/.339/.481 with 26 homers, 90 runs, 94 RBI and 22 stolen bases, Pence would stand to make a killing on the open market. He has however, been an emotional leader since joining the Giants, and may prefer to remain in his familiar surroundings.
Giants, Pence have not 'progressed very far' | 09/26/2013 1:29 PM
NewsAccording to Henry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle, contract talks "haven't progressed very far" between the Giants and impending free agent Hunter Pence.
Henry Schulman on Twitter
ImpactPence is batting .317/.389/.517 with 11 home runs and 45 RBI in 64 games since the All-Star break, making a late charge at a potentially major payday. The 30-year-old outfielder seems likely to hit the open market at this point so that he can see what offers are out there.
Pence hitless in loss to Yankees | 09/20/2013 10:22 PM
NewsHunter Pence went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in Friday's loss to the Yankees.
ImpactAfter his ridiculous offensive surge in recent days, Pence is now hitless in three straight games. Hey, he was bound to cool down sometime. It's worth noting that he has drawn walks all three games, so he has reached base safely in 10 straight contests.
Hunter Pence homers twice to top Dodgers | 09/15/2013 7:40 PM
NewsHunter Pence continued his power-hitting binge on Sunday, blasting a pair of homers and plating three runs to lead the Giants to a 4-3 victory over the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
ImpactBoth long balls came courtesy of Dodgers starter Edinson Volquez. Pence finished the four-game series against the Giants 8-for-17 with five homers and 12 RBI. He joined the legendary Willie Mays as the only Giants hitters to homer in every game of a four-game series against the Dodgers. The 30-year-old outfielder has driven in 19 runs in his past six games and now owns a season slash of .295/.345/.499 with 25 homers, 86 runs, 92 RBI and 21 stolen bases.

NewsHunter Pence drove in a whopping seven runs with a pair of singles and a grand slam Saturday against the Dodgers.
ImpactPence had 73 RBI on Sept. 9. Now he has a legitimate chance at 100 after collecting 16 in five games. He drove in a career-high 104 last year between Philadelphia and San Francisco. This late surge could mean more millions in free agency this winter.

ImpactPence has now gone deep four times in his last nine games and is up to 21 homers and 21 stolen bases on the year. The 30-year-old should be highly-coveted on the free agent market this winter, though the Giants would like to keep him.

NewsHunter Pence finished 4-for-5 with a double, homer and six RBI in Tuesday's 9-8 loss to the Rockies.
ImpactJorge De La Rosa was one strike away from escaping the first inning when Pence blasted his three-run homer. Pence is batting .289 with 20 homers and 79 RBI on the year.

NewsHunter Pence went 3-for-3 with a homer, a double and three runs scored Friday against the Diamondbacks.

ImpactThe Reds are in the market for a righty bat, so Pence would be a nice upgrade. However, Heyman hears that there isn't a match thus far. ImpactThe Pirates are in the market for outfield depth and have also been linked to Alex Rios. Pence is set to hit free agency after the season, but the Giants would "need to be overwhelmed" to move him prior to the July 31 trade deadline.
Hunter Pence goes hitless in loss to Mets | 07/10/2013 6:49 PM
NewsHunter Pence went hitless Wednesday and is 3-for-36 with one RBI in July.
ImpactPence had a heck of a May, but the rest of his year looks pretty pedestrian. The vast majority of his damage has come against lefties; he has five homers and 19 RBI in 89 at-bats against them, compared to eight homers and 24 RBI in three times as many at-bats (267) against righties.
Hunter Pence hits three-run homer | 06/13/2013 10:49 PM
NewsHunter Pence went 2-for-5 with a three-run homer off Mike Zagurski against the Pirates on Thursday.
ImpactSince moving back into the cleanup spot last Friday, Pence has gone 9-for-26 with two homers and four doubles in six games. He figures to stay there at least until Pablo Sandoval returns and probably beyond.
Giants shake up lineup, Pence hitting cleanup | 06/07/2013 7:12 PM
NewsGiants manager Bruce Bochy has juggled his lineup for Friday's game against the Diamondbacks, with Buster Posey hitting third, Hunter Pence cleanup and Pablo Sandoval fifth.
ImpactPerhaps he's just shaking things up in an effort to get the offense rolling, as the Giants have been limited to just seven total runs in their last five games. While all three hitters are off to strong starts this season, Pence is leading the way by hitting .290/.335/.494 with nine homers, 30 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
Hunter Pence hits ninth homer in loss | 05/30/2013 2:03 AM
NewsHunter Pence went 3-for-5 and hit his ninth home run Wednesday against the A's.
ImpactThe final hit rolled about 15 feet, but Pence will take it. He's homered in back-to-back games, and he's up to 29 RBI. The really nice surprise for fantasy owners, though, is that he's 8-for-8 stealing bases. Since swiping 18 bases in 2010, he had fallen off to eight in 2011 and five last year.
Hunter Pence stays hot but Giants lose | 05/07/2013 1:07 AM
NewsHunter Pence went 3-for-3 with his sixth home run of the season in Monday's loss to the Phillies.
ImpactThe Giants managed just five hits all night, and Pence had three of them, including both of their extra-base knocks. After going through a bit of a lull, Pence is heating up at the plate again, batting .500 (10-for-20) with two homers, four doubles and six RBI over his last five contests.
Pence doubles twice in win over Dodgers | 05/05/2013 11:15 PM
NewsHunter Pence went 2-for-4 with two doubles in a win over the Dodgers on Sunday.
ImpactPence drove in all four of the Giants' runs. He's now batting .320 (8-for-25) with a home run and six RBI over his last seven games. Pence had been in a slump after getting off to a hot start, but he's finally starting to get back on track.
Hunter Pence homers in Giants' victory | 04/14/2013 6:46 PM
NewsHunter Pence hit a game-tying homer in the top of the ninth Sunday in the Giants' 10-7 win over the Cubs.
ImpactAfter Pence tied it, the Giants scored three in the 10th to win it, with the go-ahead run coming on a balk. Pence finished the day 3-for-4 with a walk. The homer to center off Shawn Camp was his fourth of the season.
Hunter Pence goes deep | 04/09/2013 1:12 AM
NewsHunter Pence belted a three-run homer in Monday's win over the Rockies.
ImpactIt was Pence's only hit of the night, but it was all the Giants needed in the 4-2 victory. Most are expecting a power drop-off from Pence this season as he plays in a pitcher-friendly park over a full season for the first time, but he has three homers in the first seven contests.
Pence fills up the stat sheet on Saturday | 04/06/2013 7:31 PM
NewsHunter Pence hit a home run and stole a base, but the Giants lost to the Cardinals on Saturday.
ImpactPence's home run was his second of the season, a solo shot off Cardinals starter Shelby Miller in the second inning. The 29-year-old hit 24 home runs in 2012 but batted just .219 after the trade that brought him to the Giants. In his first full season in San Francisco he'll look to improve on those numbers.
Pence drives in two runs, Giants beat Padres | 03/26/2013 7:08 PM
NewsHunter Pence drove in two runs Tuesday in the Giants' 4-2 Cactus League victory over the Padres.
ImpactPence is now batting .361 this spring in the Cactus League. He struggled mightily with consistency last season but still managed a career-high 104 RBI. The outfielder makes for a decent bounceback candidate in 2013.
Pence knocks in two runs in win over Rangers | 03/11/2013 7:23 PM
NewsHunter Pence knocked in a pair of runs in Monday's 2-1 win over the Rangers.
ImpactPence did all the heavy lifting for the Giants' offense on Monday, as he had an RBI double in the third and an RBI triple in the fifth. The soon-to-be 30-year-old saw his production dip after coming over to the Giants last season and may struggle to replicate the career-high 104 RBI he had last season. Chances are he will be overvalued in fantasy leagues.
Pence tallies first two spring RBI in loss | 03/07/2013 5:50 PM
NewsHunter Pence finished 2-for-3 with two RBI in Thursday's Cactus League loss to the Indians.
ImpactThe RBI were Pence's first of the spring, but he's batting .318 through eight Cactus League games. The 29-year-old will be looking to bounce back in a big way this season after his highly disappointing showing in 2012.
Pence wants extension before free agency | 03/03/2013 2:46 PM
NewsHunter Pence told ESPN's Jim Bowden that he would prefer to sign a long-term deal with the Giants rather than testing out free agency.
Jim Bowden on Twitter
ImpactWell, if the Giants offered him enough, we don't doubt that he'd prefer to go ahead and sign an extension now. There's been no indication that the two sides have engaged in any extension talks to this point, though. Perhaps that will change if Pence gets off to a hot start.
Pence, Giants avoid arb. with $13.8M deal | 01/18/2013 12:26 PM
NewsGiants avoided arbitration with OF Hunter Pence by agreeing to a one-year, $13.8 million contract.
ImpactIt's a nice raise from last year's $10.4 million salary given that Pence batted just .219/.287/.384 with seven home runs in 248 plate appearances for the Giants and posted a career-worst .743 OPS overall. Pence's numbers in 2013 will probably be down relative to his career totals since he'll play in a pitcher's park over a full season for the first time. But, he's been very durable and, for the most part, consistent during his career, so he should be a solid fantasy contributor again.
