|Assets:||Has elite power. Manages to hit for consistently good averages despite taking a huge cut on every swing. Knows the value of taking a walk and is a clutch run producer. Works hard to improve his defense.|
|Flaws:||Strikes out too much, which can often lead to prolonged hitting funks. Doesn't possess a top-tier glove at first base. Is slow and not an asset on the basepaths. Must always keep his weight in check, too.|
|Career Potential:||Elite slugger and run-producer.|

Prince Fielder goes hitless in loss | 04/07/2014 10:39 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 0-for-4 on Monday and is off to a 4-for-28 start this season.
ImpactAt least he has managed one RBI after going the final 17 games of his Tigers career (six regular season, 11 postseason) without one. It looked like Fielder would get off to a much better start after his nice spring, but there's no reason to be down on him just yet.
Fielder hits second spring home run | 03/20/2014 6:17 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 1-for-2 with a walk and a solo home run against the Reds on Thursday.
ImpactFielder took Sam LeCure deep for a solo shot in the fifth inning, his second blast of the spring. He has had an unremarkable spring, but many are expecting a bounce-back season, especially with the change in ballparks as a result of November's trade, which also involved Ian Kinsler.
Fielder homers in Cactus League debut | 02/27/2014 5:31 PM
NewsPrince Fielder blasted a solo home run in the third inning of his Cactus League debut against the Royals on Thursday.
ImpactFielder grounded out in the first inning in his other at-bat. Overall a decent showing for the Rangers' new first baseman, acquired in November's infamous trade with the Tigers which had Ian Kinsler outbound. Fielder will hit third in the Rangers' lineup and should enjoy the more hitter-friendly confines of his new home park in Texas.
Prince Fielder will bat third for the Rangers | 11/25/2013 3:34 PM
NewsRangers manager Ron Washington said Monday that Prince Fielder will bat third next season.
Anthony Andro on Twitter
ImpactFielder hit fourth for the Brewers behind Ryan Braun and fourth for the Tigers behind Miguel Cabrera, but he'll move up one spot in Texas. It may cut slightly into his RBI total, but Fielder projects to have a power resurgence in Arlington's hitter-friendly confines and the Rangers typically score a ton of runs.
Rangers acquire 1B Prince Fielder from Tigers | 11/20/2013 10:52 PM
NewsRangers acquired 1B Prince Fielder and cash considerations from the Tigers in exchange for 2B Ian Kinsler.
ImpactOne-for-one trades don't get much bigger than this. In Fielder, the Rangers are acquiring a five-time All-Star and a player who has average 35 home runs a year for his career. The 29-year-old brings the kind of left-handed power the Rangers have been missing since Josh Hamilton left last offseason. With the $30 million coming to help with expenses, the Rangers will end up paying Fielder $138 million over the next seven years.
Tigers sending $30 million with Prince to TEX | 11/20/2013 9:32 PM
NewsThe Tigers will give the Rangers $30 million as part of the trade sending Prince Fielder to the Rangers in exchange for Ian Kinsler, according to Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan.
Jeff Passan on Twitter
ImpactPassan said the final deal will be Fielder for Kinsler straight up, with the $30 million going to the Rangers to help offset the remaining $168 million on Fielder's nine-year deal signed before the 2012 season. Kinsler himself still has four years and $57 million left on his deal. The deal likely allows the Tigers the financial room to sign Max Scherzer to a long-term deal rather than dealing him this offseason, as they'd been speculated to be considering.
Tigers, Rangers agree to blockbuster deal | 11/20/2013 8:25 PM
NewsThe Tigers and Rangers have agreed on a deal that would send Prince Fielder to the Rangers in exchange for Ian Kinsler, Jon Heyman of CBS Sports is reporting.
ImpactWell, that was fast. It was recently learned by Heyman that the two sides were discussing such a deal, and it now seems the deal has been agreed upon, at least in principal. The deal would be pending a physical and it could include another player as well, Heyman said. Fielder also has a limited no-trade clause, and it's unsure if the Rangers are on that list.
Fielder-for-Kinsler deal is a 'possibility' | 11/20/2013 7:55 PM
NewsA Prince Fielder-for-Ian Kinsler trade is a "possibility," according to a source of CBS Sports' Jon Heyman.
ImpactHeyman said the deal is on the table, suggesting it's not just a passing rumor. It would certainly fall under the heading of blockbuster if the deal were to be consummated, especially considering the money still owed to both players in coming years. The Rangers pursued Fielder when he was a free agent two years ago, and a deal would free up a spot for Jurickson Profar in Texas. Fielder does have a limited no-trade clause that could come into play, but that's pretty far down the road of things that would need to happen at this point.
Tigers re-using winning lineup from Game 4 | 10/19/2013 4:05 PM
NewsThe Tigers will use the same lineup they used in Wednesday's victory over the Red Sox in Game 4 of the ALCS again for Saturday's must-win contest.
Detroit Tigers on Twitter
ImpactWith Alex Avila back in the lineup after being knocked out of Thursday's game, the only switch in the batting order is flipping Avila and Infante. The Tigers will roll with Austin Jackson CF, Miguel Cabrera 3B, Prince Fielder 1B, Victor Martinez DH, Jhonny Peralta LF, Alex Avila C, Omar Infante 2B, Austin Jackson CF and Jose Iglesias SS against Clay Buchholz as they attempt to stave off elimination and force a Game 7 on Sunday.
Tigers not planning to drop Fielder in lineup | 10/19/2013 8:37 AM
NewsTigers manager Jim Leyland clarified Friday that he is not planning on dropping struggling slugger Prince Fielder down in his lineup for Game 6 of the ALCS against the Red Sox on Saturday.
ImpactFielder, a notoriously poor performer in the postseason, is hitting .211/.286/.263 in 19 at-bats in the ALCS and hasn't driven in a run over his last 17 postseason contests. Tigers' fans frustration came out in Thursday's loss to the Red Sox in Game 5, as Fielder was booed for his lack of production.
Prince Fielder stays hot, but Tigers lose | 09/22/2013 4:41 PM
NewsPrince Fielder launched a solo homer in Sunday's loss to the White Sox.
ImpactThe big man's solo blast in the fourth inning knotted things up, but Anibal Sanchez's rare off day meant a loss for the Tigers. Fielder has really heated up in September, batting .380 with four homers and 14 RBI across 20 games.
Fielder homers, plates three to lead Tigers | 09/13/2013 9:59 PM
NewsPrince Fielder homered and drove home three runs, powering the Tigers to a 6-3 victory over the Royals on Friday.
ImpactFielder blasted a Bruce Chen offering into the seats in right for a two-run homer in the fourth inning, and capped off the scoring with an RBI single in the fifth. The three RBI give him 102 on the season, the third consecutive year, and sixth time in the last seven, that he's eclipsed the 100 RBI plateau.
Fielder keeps hitting, rips four hits vs. Sox | 09/10/2013 11:56 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 4-for-5 with a home run against the White Sox on Tuesday.
ImpactThe first baseman is on fire right now, as he's hit safely in eight of nine September games. This month Fielder is 14-for-37 (.378) with two home runs and seven RBI. After a relatively down year, the 29-year-old is now hitting .277/.360/.454 with 23 home runs and 99 RBI.
Fielder blasts 22nd home run in losing effort | 09/04/2013 11:30 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 2-for-3 with his 22nd home run of the year in a loss to the Red Sox on Wednesday.
ImpactFielder's two-run homer in the third inning actually gave the Tigers a short-lived lead. The first baseman has strung together a modest five-game hitting streak, lifting his season line to .271/.359/.448. Now with 95 RBI, he looks like a good bet to reach the 100 RBI plateau for the third straight season.
Fielder has three hits, homer vs. Athletics | 08/29/2013 4:44 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs scored, and a walk Thursday against the Athletics.
ImpactIt was just his fifth home run in his last 44 games. Fielder hasn't had an OPS higher than .788 in any month since April.
Fielder drives in two in loss against A's | 08/27/2013 11:13 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 1-for-1 with two RBI against the A's on Tuesday.
ImpactThe game was shortened due to rain, hence the single official at-bat for the first baseman. Fielder's bases-loaded single in the first inning drove in two, giving him 90 RBI on the season. He's batting .264/.350/.434 on the year.
Fielder homers for third time in six games | 08/20/2013 10:50 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 1-for-4 with a home run against the Twins on Tuesday.

Fielder goes hitless as Tigers fall to Royals | 08/16/2013 10:09 PM
NewsPrince Fielder had a rough night at the plate as the Tigers drop the nightcap of Friday's doubleheader to the Royals, going 0-for-4 with a strikeout.
ImpactThe Tigers entire offense was inept for both games of Friday's doubleheader, mustering just one run on six total hits in the two contests. Fielder has had a disappointing season by his standards, hitting .258/.348/.429 with 18 homers and 83 RBI.
Prince Fielder hits two-run homer | 08/15/2013 10:18 PM
NewsPrince Fielder hit a two-run homer off the Royals' Jeremy Guthrie in the Tigers' win Thursday.
ImpactIt was Fielder's first homer since July 24 and just his second since the All-Star break. Despite the down season, he still ranks fifth in the AL with 83 RBI. Of course, he's 32 behind Miguel Cabrera for first place on his team and in the league.
Prince Fielder filed for divorce on May 28 | 08/15/2013 10:49 AM
NewsPrince Fielder filed for divorce from his wife of more than eight years on May 28 in Florida.
ImpactThis may have been what teammate Torii Hunter was referring to when he told a Detroit sports radio program earlier this week that "a lot of people don't know what's going on in [Fielder's] life." Prince is batting just .262/.352/.430 this season and .254/.316/.389 since May 28.
Fielder doubles in two, Tigers win in extras | 08/08/2013 12:24 AM
NewsPrince Fielder delivered a two-run double in the 14th inning to help the Tigers beat the Indians 6-5 on Wednesday.
ImpactFielder ended the night 2-for-6 with that double, his 24th of the year. He's driven in 78 runs despite batting just .259/.353/.432 this year. The 78 RBI are good for fifth-best in the American League.
Fielder hits 17th homer in Tigers' 8-2 win | 07/24/2013 11:51 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the Tigers' 8-2 win over the White Sox on Wednesday.
ImpactFielder hit the three-run shot, his 17th of the year, off John Danks in the first inning. The first baseman is having a down year by his standards, hitting .269/.362/.456 with those 17 home runs, but he's also driven in 74 runs. That's good for third in the American League in RBI behind Chris Davis and his teammate Miguel Cabrera.
Fielder has 3 RBI as Tigers down White Sox | 07/10/2013 11:39 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in the Tigers' 8-5 win over the White Sox on Wednesday.

Prince Fielder goes hitless in loss | 06/19/2013 4:41 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 0-for-4 on Wednesday and is without a homer since June 4.
ImpactFielder has been hitting for average of late, but except for a three-game surge at the beginning of the month, the power hasn't been there. He has a total of five homers and 27 RBI in 44 games since May 1 after totaling seven homers and 27 RBI in 25 games in April. Fortunately, since he's hitting behind Miguel Cabrera, he's still driving in runs with singles and doubles.

NewsPrince Fielder went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBI, helping to lead the Tigers to a 4-0 victory over the Twins in Minnesota on Friday.
ImpactRick Porcello and Scott Diamond were engaged in a scoreless pitcher's duel heading into the sixth inning, where Fielder's two-run double broke the game open and provided more than enough support for the Tigers. NewsPrince Fielder went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in the Tigers' win over the Rays on Tuesday.
ImpactFielder had two singles to go along with his 12th homer, and even his one out was an RBI sacrifice fly. The first baseman is now hitting .283/.395/.519, and his 48 RBI would be more impressive if he wasn't on the same team as Miguel Cabrera.
Fielder goes 0-for-4 in Saturday's loss | 05/26/2013 5:40 AM
NewsPrince Fielder went 0-for-4 in Saturday's loss to the Twins.
ImpactFielder hasn't hit a home run since May 10 and is batting just .235/.380/.383 this month. He's seeing the ball fine and drawing plenty of walks. The power will return. Cecil's son is scuffling a bit and being overshadowed by demigod Miguel Cabrera. If someone is dumb enough to sell low on Prince, be smart enough to buy.
Fielder hitting just .229 in May | 05/16/2013 10:57 PM
NewsEntering play on Thursday, Prince Fielder was hitting just .229 in May.
ImpactOver 13 games this month, the mammoth slugger has posted a pedestrian (for him, at least) .229/.383/.417 triple slash. With 11 of those games against the Astros, Twins and Indians, Fielder owners were surely looking for more fantasy production. Since posting a 1.009 OPS in the season's opening month, pitchers are tap dancing around Fielder, walking him 13 times (including three HBPs and one IBB) in 60 May plate appearances. He leads the American League in walks and times on base.

ImpactFielder singled in the first inning and launched a two-run shot in the fifth, finishing the night 2-for-4 with two RBI. Miguel Cabrera and Alex Avila also homered in the game. Fielder owns an exceptional .301/.417/.591 batting line and 27 RBI in 25 games this season. He should be in the MVP running when all is said and done.
Prince Fielder homers late in win over Braves | 04/28/2013 11:22 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 2-for-4 with a home run in Sunday night's win over the Braves.

Prince Fielder will DH for Saturday's game | 04/27/2013 11:48 AM
NewsPrince Fielder will DH for Saturday's game against the Braves.

ImpactThe Tigers are just looking to lessen the workload on Fielder, who's started all 21 games this season. Victor Martinez will replace him at first base.
Prince Fielder finally breaks out of slump | 04/21/2013 9:20 PM
NewsPrince Fielder went 2-for-4 with a home run in Sunday's extra-innings loss.
ImpactFielder was hitting just .160 with no home runs over his last seven games, so it's a much needed breakout. Despite the massive slump, Fielder still ranks sixth in the American League in slugging-percentage. His 21 walks are behind only Albert Pujols.
Prince Fielder fans five times vs. Mariners | 04/18/2013 2:45 AM
NewsPrince Fielder went 0-for-6 with five strikeouts in Wednesday's 14-inning game against the Mariners.

Prince Fielder goes 4-for-5, homers | 04/13/2013 2:18 AM
NewsPrince Fielder went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer and a double against the A's on Saturday.
ImpactFielder has been swinging the bat awfully well since the final few days of the spring. His homer drove in all of Detroit's run tonight and gave him 17 RBI in 10 games. Now if only someone could drive him in; excluding his homers, he's scored just three times this year. That was a problem throughout last year, too.
Prince Fielder homers in second straight | 03/29/2013 5:05 PM
NewsPrince Fielder homered in a second straight game Friday against the Rays.
ImpactFielder went the first 27 days of March without a homer after hitting two in five games in February. In addition to his two-run shot off Jeremy Hellickson today, he delivered a sac fly. He's hitting .305 with 18 RBI in 59 at-bats.
Fielder, Cabrera homer for Tigers | 02/23/2013 6:27 PM
NewsPrince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera both homered Saturday to give the Tigers all three of their runs in a loss to the Blue Jays.
