NewsJhoulys Chacin (shoulder) will throw from 120 feet on Wednesday.
ImpactHe threw at 90 feet on Monday. "If I start feeling good, I'll keep moving [back]," Chacin said. "The good thing is I'm feeling good. My ball is coming out good. Everything feels fine, I feel strong. I'm very happy everything is working out." The 26-year-old right-hander was diagnosed with a shoulder strain in late February and is headed for the disabled list to begin the year, barring a miraculous recovery.
Chacin (shoulder) headed for DL to start year | 03/11/2014 7:59 PM
NewsThomas Harding of MLB.com reports that it's "almost a certainty" that Jhoulys Chacin (shoulder) will begin the season on the disabled list.
ImpactChacin is progressing, as he long-tossed from 90 feet Monday with no issues and will move to 120 feet Wednesday. However, he's yet to throw off a mound all spring and simply doesn't have enough time to get ready by Opening Day. "If I start feeling good, I'll keep moving [back]," Chacin said. "The good thing is I'm feeling good. My ball is coming out good. Everything feels fine, I feel strong. I'm very happy everything is working out." The righty added that he is "thinking about the long term, not rushing and getting set back."

NewsJhoulys Chacin (shoulder) played catch on Thursday afternoon in Rockies camp.
Jon Heyman on Twitter
ImpactThe workout went smoothly, but there's no timetable for Chacin's return to the mound and the clock is ticking toward Opening Day. The 26-year-old right-hander was diagnosed with a shoulder strain in late February and may have to miss the first few weeks of the regular season. This situation obviously dents his fantasy value.
Chacin (shoulder) will play catch on Thursday | 03/06/2014 11:24 AM
NewsJhoulys Chacin (shoulder) will play catch Thursday.
ImpactIt'll be a light session of only about a dozen tosses. Chacin's sore right shoulder has been responding well to strengthening exercises, but the real test will come when he returns to a mound and resumes throwing at full speed. The 26-year-old right-hander seems likely to miss at least one turn in Colorado's regular-season rotation.
Jhoulys Chacin to resume throwing this week | 03/03/2014 11:51 AM
NewsJhoulys Chacin (shoulder) told the Denver Post that he plans to begin playing light catch in 2-3 days.
ImpactChacin has been shut down for nine days and is happy with the way his strained shoulder has responded to the period of rest. "It feels really good. I threw a little medicine ball, a small one, and it felt fine today," the right-hander said Monday morning. "I am going to be OK. It's definitely getting better." There's still an outside shot that he'll be ready for the first week of the regular season.

Chacin still appears to have a shot to be ready on Opening Day, but he'll have to keep progressing from here on out without any speed bumps. The 26-year-old would be the club's Opening Day starter if he's ready physically.

Colorado Rockies on Twitter
ImpactThe Rockies are hoping the right-hander is just dealing with some inflammation, but they won't know until after the exam takes place. Chacin will be shut down until further notice. The 26-year-old is arguably the team's best starter, so losing him for a significant period of time would obviously be a big blow for the Rockies.

NewsJhoulys Chacin lasted just four innings in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks, surrendering six runs (four earned) on seven hits in the process.
ImpactThe saving grace for fantasy owners is that he managed to rack up six strikeouts during the abbreviated outing while walking three. Paul Goldschmidt was a one-man wrecking crew against him in this one, lining an RBI single to left in the first inning, clobbering a two-run homer in the third and smashing a two-run double to center in the fifth inning. Even with the rough effort, Chacin still sports a tidy 3.27 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 123/54 K/BB ratio through 187 1/3 innings on the year. He'll look to get back on track when he takes on these same D'Backs at home on Friday.

NewsJhoulys Chacin pitched an outstanding ballgame in Friday's victory over the Pirates, surrendering just one run on six hits over his eight innings.

Despite pitching his home games in Colorado, the 25-year-old has been terrific for the Rockies this season, posting a 10-5 record, 3.40 ERA and 1.22 WHIP. His next time out he'll draw the Mets in New York on Thursday.

NewsJhoulys Chacin allowed two runs on six hits over 8 2/3 innings in Sunday's win over the Phillies.
ImpactChacin came one out away from a complete game in what was easily his best outing of the season. He aggressively attacked the strike zone and the Phillies didn't advance a baserunner past first base on him until the ninth inning.
