|Flaws:||Strikes out too much and needs to hone his table-setting skills at the major-league level. Would also benefit by taking more walks and learn the intricacies of the game.|
|Career Potential:||Speedy, athletic center-fielder.|

Drew Stubbs goes 0-for-3 in loss | 04/12/2014 1:47 AM
NewsDrew Stubbs went 0-for-3 before being removed for a pinch-hitter Friday against the Giants.
ImpactStubbs isn't making a case for any starts against right-handers with his 2-for-16 start. He might actually sit some against lefties if Charlie Blackmon keeps this up.
Stubbs starting in center field Tuesday | 04/01/2014 2:35 PM
NewsDrew Stubbs will make the start in center field and bat leadoff Tuesday against the Marlins.
MLB Lineups on Twitter
ImpactCharlie Blackmon made the start in center field on Opening Day and went 0-for-4 with a strikeout. We haven't seen sleeper candidate Chris Dickerson yet and it looks like playing time could be hard to come by, at least in the early going.
Weiss: CF competition isn't close to over | 03/12/2014 10:56 AM
NewsRockies manager Walt Weiss said competition for the starting center field job could go until late in camp.
ImpactColorado has an eclectic group -- Drew Stubbs, Corey Dickerson, Brandon Barnes and Charlie Blackmon -- competing for playing time. Weiss went out of his way to mention Barnes, interesting because the former Astro was viewed as the likely fourth outfielder. "I think Barnes gets left out," Weiss said. "It's a really competitive situation. The guys are showing up well." Barnes is hitting .346 this spring, same as Dickerson. Stubbs sits at .278, while Blackmon has posted a .227 average.
Stubbs has two hits against the Cubs | 03/11/2014 6:43 PM
NewsDrew Stubbs finished Tuesday's game against the Cubs 2-for-3 with an RBI.
ImpactStubbs put the Rockies on the board in the first inning on a ground ball single. Stubbs is vying for the center field job, but he has Corey Dickerson and Brandon Barnes to contend with. In a starting role, he can usually be counted on for 15-20 steals and double-digit home runs, though he won't bring much in the way of batting average.
Drew Stubbs expected to return on Sunday | 03/01/2014 11:07 AM
NewsDrew Stubbs said Saturday that he's feeling much better and expects to return to the Rockies lineup on Sunday.

ImpactStubbs was scratched from Friday's lineup to to Eosinophilic Esophagitis, which is a condition that he's been dealing with for some time and flares up on occasion. He's hoping to make a strong impression on his new team this spring, where he's competing with Corey Dickerson for the starting job in center field.

NewsDrew Stubbs was scratched from the Rockies' lineup Friday due to a condition with his esophagus.

ImpactThe outfielder is feeling better and should return to action soon. Stubbs is competing for the Rockies' center field job.
Stubbs, Dickerson, Barnes to compete for job | 02/22/2014 3:40 PM
NewsRockies manager Walt Weiss announced Saturday that Drew Stubbs, Corey Dickerson and Brandon Barnes will compete for the team's starting job in center field this spring.
Thomas Harding on Twitter
ImpactWith Carlos Gonzalez remaining in left field, the opening is there for one of the trio to earn a regular job, and perhaps to hit atop the Rockies lineup in 2014. While Stubbs has struggled to make consistent contact the past two seasons, he still owns a dazzling blend of power and speed, and would be extremely relevant in mixed leagues should he earn regular playing time, especially at Coors Field.
Drew Stubbs gets $4.1 million from Rockies | 01/17/2014 11:49 AM
NewsRockies avoided arbitration with OF Drew Stubbs by agreeing to a one-year, $4.1 million contract.
Joel Sherman on Twitter
ImpactStubbs gets a healthy raise in his second year of arbitration eligibility even though he batted just .233/.305/.360 with 10 homers and 17 steals last season. The 29-year-old will function as the Rockies' fourth outfielder in 2014.
Rockies acquire OF Stubbs from Indians | 12/18/2013 2:38 PM
NewsRockies acquired OF Drew Stubbs from the Indians for LHP Josh Outman.
ImpactStubbs is going to be a popular NL-only sleeper pick, but don't get ahead of yourselves. His speed and power are a nice fit in Coors Field, but Stubbs is currently slated for the bench, or the possible short side of a platoon with Corey Dickerson. Stubbs hits southpaws hard and struggles mightily against right-handers, so the latter plan would work well. The 29-year-old, projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to make $3.8 million in arbitration, slashed .233/.305/.360 with the Indians in 2013.
Report: Rockies acquire Stubbs from Indians | 12/18/2013 1:25 PM
NewsThe Rockies have acquired Drew Stubbs from the Rockies, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal.

ImpactAfter the Indians signed David Murphy, the writing was on the wall for Stubbs' exit. Cleveland, then, did well to get something for him, though we don't yet know what package is heading to Ohio. MLBTradeRumors.com projects Stubbs will make $3.8 million in what will be his second year of arbitration this winter. The 29-year-old slashed a sickly .233/.305/.360 in 2013. Colorado is targeting Stubbs because he possesses a few talents that fit very well in Coors Field: He's a superb defender capable of sliding easily between all three spots, and he has good pop. It wouldn't be a shock if Stubbs played well enough in spring training that Colorado was convinced to move off its plan of shifting Carlos Gonzalez to center field. If he can't pull that off, Stubbs is likely slated to be Colorado's fourth outfielder.
Indians expected to tender contract to Stubbs | 12/01/2013 12:48 PM
NewsJordan Bastian of MLB.com reports that the Indians are expected to tender a contract to Drew Stubbs.
ImpactStubbs' role is up in the air after the signing of David Murphy, but the Indians won't let Stubbs walk away for nothing. Expect them to shop him during next week's Winter Meetings. MLBTradeRumors.com projects Stubbs to make $3.8 million in what will be his second year of arbitration.
Stubbs launches two-run HR in win over Twins | 09/28/2013 12:16 AM
NewsDrew Stubbs filled up the box score in Friday's 12-6 win over the Twins, going 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, a walk, a stolen base, and three runs scored.
ImpactIt was a rare big night for Stubbs, who entered Friday's action hitting just .201 with two home runs and eight RBI over 54 games since the All-Star break. The 28-year-old has now reached double-digits in home runs for the fourth straight season.
Drew Stubbs goes hitless in fourth straight | 09/11/2013 3:17 PM
NewsDrew Stubbs went hitless in a fourth straight game Wednesday in a loss to the Royals.
ImpactHe's 0-for-14 with nine strikeouts in those four games, and his average is down to .230, which is the lowest it's been since early June. He may start taking a backseat to Ryan Raburn in right field.
Stubbs hits game-winning homer in 14th | 08/21/2013 3:37 AM
NewsDrew Stubbs hit a two-run, game-winning homer in the 14th inning Tuesday against the Angels.
ImpactNo runs were scored between the eighth and 13th innings, but that changed quickly when the Angels summoned punching bag Joe Blanton. Los Angeles loaded the bases with no outs in the tenth but failed to push a run across, opening the door for Stubbs' heroics. Cleveland improves to 68-58, 5 1/2 games behind Detroit in the AL Central.
Drew Stubbs goes 0-for-3 in loss | 08/05/2013 10:25 PM
NewsDrew Stubbs went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and committed an error against the Tigers on Monday.
ImpactStubbs has been losing playing time even with his big defensive advantage in right field; errors won't help his cause. He should be the Indians' fourth outfielder for as long as Ryan Raburn continues to produce.
Stubbs homers, drives in four in loss | 07/04/2013 5:29 PM
NewsDrew Stubbs finished 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in Thursday's defeat to the Royals.
ImpactStubbs smacked a two-run home run in the top of the second inning and knocked in two more runs with a single in the sixth. He fell one RBI short of his career-high, which was accomplished on July 4, 2010. The 28-year-old is probably never going to hit for a high batting average, but he's doing enough with counting stats to be relevant in most mixed leagues.
Stubbs goes 2-for-3 with a walk and a steal | 06/25/2013 3:46 AM
NewsDrew Stubbs went 2-for-3 with a walk and a steal Monday against the O's.
ImpactHe's currently riding a six-game hitting streak and has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games. Despite that nice stretch, Monday marked Stubbs' first multi-hit game since June 7. Stubbs is batting .245 and is on pace for 13 homers, 54 RBI and 17 steals.
Drew Stubbs homers in loss Tuesday | 06/04/2013 10:40 PM
NewsDrew Stubbs singled and ripped a three-run homer in Tuesday's loss to the Yankees.
ImpactStubbs' blast in the seventh inning off of Joba Chamberlain pulled the Tribe to within one, but that's as close as they would get. The outfielder came into the night with a lowly .125/.208/.229 batting line in his last 17 games, so it was a much-needed big showing.
Drew Stubbs knocks in three in victory | 05/23/2013 10:59 PM
NewsDrew Stubbs tripled, doubled twice and drove in three runs as the Indians beat the Red Sox 12-3 on Thursday.
ImpactStubbs merits as an everyday right fielder can be debated, but he is hitting better than he did last year, with a .255/.304/.403 line through 149 at-bats. And fortunately for his fantasy owners, the Indians lineup has been better than expected, giving him more chances to score and drive in runs from the ninth spot than anticipated.
Stubbs collects four hits, including walkoff | 05/03/2013 10:49 PM
NewsDrew Stubbs tallied four hits, including a walk-off RBI double in the 10th inning, leading the Indians to a 7-6 victory over the Twins on Friday.
ImpactStubbs finished the night 4-for-5 with three doubles, a run scored and an RBI. The 28-year-old outfielder has turned in three straight multi-hit performances to raise his season line to .280/.340/.420 with two homers, eight RBI and a pair of stolen bases. While he's not expected to contribute a positive average, his power/speed combination makes him a worthwhile option as a fourth or fifth outfielder in all formats.
Drew Stubbs struggling early with Indians | 04/11/2013 10:26 AM
NewsDrew Stubbs is batting just .207 with a .483 OPS through his first 29 plate appearances this season.
ImpactStubbs has struck out 12 times and attempted only one stolen base. There was some hope that this winter's trade to Cleveland might provide a spark for the talented 28-year-old outfielder, but it hasn't happened yet.
Drew Stubbs ditches leg kick | 02/13/2013 10:38 PM
NewsDrew Stubbs worked on changing his approach over the offseason, ditching his leg kick in favor of a toe tap.
ImpactAustin Jackson implemented the same change last season, and Stubbs is hoping it will pay off for him in a similar fashion. The outfielder struck out 539 times from 2010-2012 (180 per season). "When things are going good and you have a leg kick, it's great," Stubbs said. "When you're not, it's a scramble. For a lot of last year, that was the case with me. I said, 'I have to find something to simplify my swing and be able to repeat it.' I kind of rededicated myself after a rough year, trying to get myself back to where I know I should be."
Indians not looking to move Stubbs, Brantley | 02/12/2013 1:02 PM
NewsCBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Indians are "not looking to move" Drew Stubbs or Michael Brantley.
Jon Heyman on twitter
ImpactThere was some speculation that Stubbs or Brantley could be on the block after the Indians agreed to terms with Michael Bourn on Monday night, but it appears there will be room for all of them. As of now, the plan is to use Bourn, Brantley and Stubbs in the outfield while Nick Swisher will mostly play first base and Mark Reynolds will get the majority of his at-bats from the DH spot.
Indians may look to trade Drew Stubbs | 02/11/2013 11:49 PM
NewsAccording to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, the Indians may use outfielder Drew Stubbs as trade bait.
Jon Heyman on Twitter
ImpactThe Indians signed free agent center fielder Michael Bourn to a four-year, $48 million contract on Monday night, making Stubbs expendable. Stubbs was acquired in a trade earlier this winter with the Reds and Diamondbacks. He hit just .213/.277/.333 in 2012 but stole 30 bases.
Indians avoid arbitration with Drew Stubbs | 01/18/2013 12:34 AM
NewsIndians and OF Drew Stubbs avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $2.825 million contract.
Jerry Crasnick on Twitter
ImpactThe deal also carries $50,000 worth of performance-based bonuses. Stubbs was traded to the Indians in mid-December after batting just .213/.277/.333 in 2012 for the Reds. He still has an attractive combination of power and speed, however, and should again be fantasy-relevant this season in Cleveland.
