|Assets:||A rare mix of command and competitiveness, he is a highly durable strikeout pitcher who rarely walks batters. Big, strong and athletic, he uses a fluid, consistent delivery to dominate with his fastball.|
|Flaws:||Gives up a fair share of homers (though mostly solo shots), in part because he throws so many strikes. Therefore, he could stand to mix it up a little bit more. Despite his stuff, the results aren't always there.|
|Career Potential:||Quality starter.|

Dodgers starter Dan Haren fired seven innings of one-run ball Friday against the Mets to win his 11th game of the year. He didn't walk a batter, struck out six and allowed three hits. | 08/23/2014 10:38 AM
NewsDodgers starter Dan Haren fired seven innings of one-run ball Friday against the Mets to win his 11th game of the year. He didn't walk a batter, struck out six and allowed three hits.
ImpactHaren has gone 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA over his last four starts after going 0-5 with a 10.03 ERA in his previous five.
Dodgers starter Dan Haren has allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out 11 in 13 1/3 innings his last two starts. | 08/12/2014 10:13 PM
NewsDodgers starter Dan Haren has allowed three runs on nine hits and struck out 11 in 13 1/3 innings his last two starts.
ImpactHaren had a 3.57 ERA at the end of June, but he allowed 26 earned runs in 23 1/3 innings from July 5 to Aug. 1. He's bounced back his last two starts, picking up wins in both, but he still has a 4.50 ERA on the season.
Dodgers starter Dan Haren's miserable July continued Wednesday at Pittsburgh. | 07/23/2014 10:04 PM
NewsDodgers starter Dan Haren's miserable July continued Wednesday at Pittsburgh.
ImpactHaren gave up five runs in five innings. He's allowed 20 runs on 28 hits (5 HR) in 19 innings this month and now has a 4.49 ERA. He entered the month with a 3.57 ERA.
Haren struggles again in loss to Cardinals | 07/19/2014 12:43 AM
NewsDan Haren fell to 8-7 after allowing three runs over 4 2/3 innings Friday against the Cardinals.
ImpactHaren threw 99 pitches and couldn't make it out of the fifth inning. The veteran right-hander gave up eight hits (including a home run) and two walks while striking out four batters. While Haren got off to a nice start this season, he has a 5.11 ERA over his last 15 starts dating back to the start of May. He has allowed 18 home runs in that timespan. It's increasingly clear that the Dodgers could use some insurance for the back-end of their starting rotation.
Dan Haren gives up four runs to Padres | 07/12/2014 1:49 AM
NewsDan Haren gave up four runs in four-plus innings Friday in a loss to the Padres.
ImpactAlexi Amarista, of all people, homered off Haren in the second, and Haren gave up a single and two RBI doubles before being pulled in the fifth. Fortunately for him, the lone runner he left on base was stranded. Haren has turned in just two quality starts in his last seven tries. The Dodgers have been getting him run support, so he's 8-6 despite his rough stretch. However, he's simply not a very good pitcher right now.
Haren blown up for eight runs in loss to Rox | 07/05/2014 7:46 PM
NewsDan Haren was blown up for eight earned runs in 5 1/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Rockies.
ImpactIt was a forgettable outing for Haren, who allowed multiple runs in three of his six frames. He struck out eight and didn't walk a batter, but the Rockies shelled him for 10 hits, including two homers. Haren will try to shake off this Coors Field punishment in his next start at home against the light-hitting Padres.
Haren allows only 1 hit in 7 shutout innings | 07/01/2014 12:53 AM
NewsDan Haren hurled seven shutout innings and allowed just one hit and one walk in a 1-0 win Monday against the Indians.
ImpactHaren punched out five and came out after 103 dominant pitches. He entered this evening 2-0 in his last four starts despite posting an ugly 4.98 ERA in those outings. This time, he didn't need much offensive help. The veteran began the season by working at least six innings in 11 of 12 outings, but he failed to do so in three of his last four coming into tonight. He's now walked two or fewer in 11 straight and Los Angeles hurlers have walked two or less in 34 straight, the second longest streak of the century behind Minnesota's 36-game stretch in 2005. Haren travels to the pitcher's elephant graveyard on Blake Street on Saturday for a date with the Rockies.
Haren lasts just 4 1/3 innings against Royals | 06/25/2014 11:37 PM
NewsDan Haren lasted only 4 1/3 innings against the Royals on Wednesday, giving up four runs in a no-decision.
ImpactGoing deep into games hasn't really been his calling card in recent years, but Wednesday's start was still the shortest of the season for Haren. The right-hander gave up five hits, including two home runs, and walked two, exiting with two runners on and one out in the fifth inning. Haren owns a 3.83 ERA heading into another interleague tilt, this time with the Indians, on Monday.
Dan Haren knocks in three in victory | 06/15/2014 1:01 AM
NewsDan Haren picked up his seventh win after allowing three runs in 6 1/3 innings Saturday against the Diamondbacks.
ImpactThe game was tied at 3 in the fourth when Haren delivered a bases-loaded double, plating all three baserunners and giving himself all of the additional support he'd need. Haren has made four of his 14 starts this year against the Diamondbacks and gone 3-1 with a 4.26 ERA. He's 7-4 with a 3.54 ERA overall.
Haren gives up 2 homers to White Sox in loss | 06/04/2014 1:20 AM
NewsDan Haren lost his third straight start, falling to 5-4, after allowing four runs over six innings in Tuesday's loss to the White Sox.
ImpactThe 33-year-old struck out two, gave up six hits and walked one. Haren enjoyed a spectacular first six weeks to his Dodgers' career, but opposing hitters have been squaring up his high-80s fastball in recent outings; he served up two balls that ended up over the fences tonight. Haren is 0-3 in his last four starts, a period that has seen his ERA jump from 2.84 to 3.50. It's not necessarily time to jump ship in mixed leagues, but the veteran should perhaps be shielded in bad matchups until he shows more consistency. Haren will look to get back on track next week in Cincinnati against a Reds team that has won four straight.
Haren holds Pirates to three runs in ND | 05/30/2014 1:17 AM
NewsDan Haren surrendered three earned runs over six innings in Thursday's no-decision loss to the Pirates.
ImpactThe veteran right-hander coughed up eight hits but didn't walk a batter. Haren has posted quality starts in seven of his last eight outings. He's not blowing anybody away, but Haren doesn't make many mistakes and has walked only 11 hitters all year. Coming off a 4.67 ERA with the Nationals last season, Haren is 5-3 with a 3.28 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. He squares off with the White Sox in Los Angeles next time around.
Haren allows five runs in loss to Phillies | 05/24/2014 5:48 PM
NewsDan Haren yielded five runs -- two earned -- in six innings Saturday as the Dodgers fell to the Phillies.
ImpactIt was a sloppy afternoon for Los Angeles and Haren wound up falling to 5-3 on the year. He struck out seven batters, but the Phillies got to him for six hits -- including a first-inning Chase Utley home run. Haren will look to get back into the win column next week when he faces the Pirates at home.
Haren allows 10 hits, takes loss vs. D'Backs | 05/18/2014 7:17 PM
NewsDan Haren fell to 5-2 after allowing five runs (four earned) in six innings in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks.
ImpactHaren allowed ten hits overall, tying a season-high, but issued no walks and struck out three. The D'Backs scored in four of his six innings, raising his ERA to 3.18. Haren will look for his sixth win next weekend against the Phillies on the road.
SP Haren stops Marlins, improves to 5-1 | 05/13/2014 2:03 AM
NewsDan Haren allowed three earned runs in seven innings Monday to pick up a win over the Marlins.
ImpactHaren admitted after his last start that he pitched through back stiffness, and a slow start (Miami led 3-1 after three innings) tonight quickened the pulses of Southern Californians. Haren soothed them, settling in and cruising from the fourth on. He improves to 5-1 with a 2.84 ERA and 1.18 WHIP. Haren will get the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
Dan Haren pitched through back stiffness | 05/08/2014 10:55 PM
NewsDan Haren admitted that he pitched through back stiffness during Wednesday's start versus the Nationals.
ImpactHaren struggled early on in the outing before ultimately settling in. It doesn't appear at this point that he's in danger of missing his next start, but the Dodgers should provide an update on the right-hander's status over the weekend.
Haren allows three runs, takes first loss | 05/07/2014 5:52 PM
NewsDan Haren surrendered three earned runs over six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Nationals.
ImpactHaren was staked to a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning but gave it right back in the bottom of that frame, allowing a two-run single to Adam LaRoche. Haren soon settled in, but the Los Angeles offense didn't manage another run the rest of the day. Haren is now 4-1 with a 2.68 ERA on the season. He will face the Marlins at Dodger Stadium next time out.
Dan Haren allows four runs in win | 05/01/2014 4:41 PM
NewsDan Haren allowed four runs -- three earned -- in 6 2/3 innings Thursday to pick up a win over the Twins.
ImpactThat's the nice thing about facing the Twins... even if you give up four runs, you still have a good chance of notching the victory. Haren is 4-0 despite having allowed 17 runs (10 earned) in 37 2/3 innings. He'll face his previous team, the Nationals, next time out on Tuesday.
Haren logs another quality start on Thursday | 04/25/2014 1:47 AM
NewsDan Haren surrendered three runs -- one earned -- on seven hits and two walks over six innings in a no-decision Thursday against the Phillies.
ImpactThe 33-year-old struck out seven in continuing his strong opening month. Haren has collected quality starts in four of his first five outings for the Dodgers. Los Angeles, which made a reasonable $13 million bet on Haren this winter, is 5-0 in those starts. The veteran Haren, now 3-0 with a 2.03 ERA, should conclude an eye-opening April on a positive note Wednesday in Target Field against the Twins.
Dan Haren earns third victory | 04/19/2014 11:21 PM
NewsDan Haren moved to 3-0 after allowing five runs -- two earned -- in 7 1/3 innings against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
ImpactHaren gave up three unearned runs (four total) after a Hanley Ramirez error in the third. The last run came after Brian Wilson replaced him with a man on first and one out in the eighth; he subsequently gave up a two-run double before escaping the inning. Haren didn't look too good towards the end of the spring, but he has a 2.08 ERA and a 20/2 K/BB ratio in 25 innings now. That he's faced the Padres and the reeling Diamondbacks twice has certainly helped.
Haren allows nine hits but earns win Sunday | 04/13/2014 8:53 PM
NewsDan Haren allowed three runs on nine hits over 5 2/3 innings but earned his second win against the Diamondbacks on Sunday.
ImpactHaren limited the damage despite the baserunners, inducing one double play and striking out five in the outing. He's now 2-0 with a 2.04 ERA and 1.02 WHIP with the Dodgers. He'll have a shot to repeat Sunday's outcome when the two teams meet up again next weekend.
Haren spins 6 quality frames in no-decision | 04/09/2014 1:41 AM
NewsDan Haren posted his second quality start in two opportunities as a Dodger on Tuesday against the Tigers, allowing just one run on three hits over six innings of a no-decision.
ImpactHe struck out four and walked one. Outside of a second inning Austin Jackson solo homer, Detroit didn't have any answers for the offseason import. Ned Colletti and company have to be feeling pretty good about their eminently reasonable $13 million investment in the right-hander after watching him allow just one earned run over his first 12 innings with the club. The Tigers aren't an easy assignment, and neither is Haren's next one in Arizona on Sunday.
Haren spins 6 shutout frames in Dodgers debut | 04/03/2014 1:28 AM
NewsDan Haren was highly impressive in his Dodgers' debut on Wednesday against the Padres, giving up just one run -- zero earned -- over six innings of a 5-1 victory.
ImpactHe struck out six, didn't walk a batter, and scattered four hits. The box score could have remained unblemished were it not for A.J. Ellis' interference granting Seth Smith first base in the fourth. That pushed Everth Cabrera to second, and the speedster scored on a Yonder Alonso single two batters later. At least Haren's earned run average was no worse for the wear, a good sign after it bloated to 4.67 with the Nationals last season. Los Angeles signed Haren with full knowledge that he logged a 3.29 ERA in 15 starts and one relief spot after returning from shoulder inflammation in 2013, and he's a decent bet to give a return on that $13 million investment assuming at least adequate health. Haren and his new club will play host to Max Scherzer and the Tigers on Tuesday evening.
Haren hit hard in final exhibition start Sat. | 03/30/2014 12:00 AM
NewsDan Haren allowed six runs over two innings of work in his final start of the spring Saturday.
ImpactHaren was only scheduled to go the two innings in preparation for his first regular season start next week, but the Angels did their best to chase him anyway. Haren gave up home runs to Mike Trout and Kole Calhoun among his six hits allowed. Despite the bad night, the right-hander is solidly entrenched in the Dodgers' starting rotation, especially in the wake of Clayton Kershaw landing on the disabled list.
Dan Haren won't travel with team to Australia | 03/15/2014 2:00 PM
NewsDan Haren won't travel with the Dodgers for their opening series against the Diamondbacks in Australia.
Dylan Hernandez on Twitter
ImpactHaren wasn't going to pitch in either of the games anyways and will be on the exempt list. That makes Paul Maholm the team's emergency starter if necessary.
Haren has a solid outing against the Royals | 03/11/2014 5:29 PM
NewsDan Haren was solid in Tuesday's start against the Royals, giving up just one run in four innings.
ImpactHaren allowed seven hits and a walk, so he was in a bit of trouble at times but was able to work his way out of it. The right-hander also struck out two. He has looked sharp in Cactus League play. After posting a 4.67 ERA with the Nationals last season, he is hoping his spring success translates to a bounce back during the regular season.
Dan Haren goes two innings in Dodgers debut | 03/01/2014 6:37 PM
NewsDan Haren allowed one run over two innings against the Brewers on Saturday.
ImpactHaren gave up three hits and a walk, failing to record a strikeout. The right-hander joined the Dodgers this offseason on a one-year, $10 million deal. With Zack Greinke ailing, Haren is in the mix to start one of the team's two games in the season-opening series against the Diamondbacks in Australia.
Colletti: Dodgers could add another starter | 11/25/2013 8:01 PM
NewsDodgers GM Ned Colletti said he is open to the idea of adding another starting pitcher.
Dylan Hernandez on Twitter
ImpactLos Angeles officially signed Dan Haren to a one-year, $10 million contract on Monday, seemingly completing their five-man rotation (Clayton Kershaw, Zack Greinke, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Josh Beckett). Beckett underwent season-ending surgery in mid-July on his right shoulder but is expected to be ready to go next spring.
Dodgers officially sign Haren to 1-year deal | 11/25/2013 7:36 PM
NewsDodgers signed SP Dan Haren to a one-year, $10 million contract.
ImpactHaren can also earn up to $3 million in potential incentives. The pact includes a player option in 2015 that will vest if the 33-year-old hurler reaches 180 innings pitched in 2014. This is a marriage of convenience, as Haren will look to get his career back on track in a pitcher-friendly ballpark after two consecutive injury-plagued seasons, and the deep-pocketed Dodgers fill their No. 5 rotation spot with a high-upside free agent without having to guarantee more than one season of salary. Keep in mind that this exact plan didn't end well for the Nationals, who paid $13 million for a 4.67 ERA in 2013.
Dodgers agree to one-year deal with Dan Haren | 11/24/2013 10:07 PM
NewsKen Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Dodgers agreed to terms with Dan Haren on a one-year, $10 million contract.
Ken Rosenthal on Twitter
ImpactThe deal is pending a physical, and also includes an option for 2015 that vests if the 33-year-old hurler reaches 180 innings pitched in 2014. Coming off of two extremely disappointing and injury plagued efforts, Haren will look to get his career back on track in the friendly confines of Dodger stadium.
Dodgers have been in touch with Dan Haren | 11/20/2013 1:18 PM
NewsMark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles reports that the Dodgers have been in touch with Dan Haren's agent.
Mark Saxon on Twitter
ImpactIt's unclear whether it's just a matter of due diligence on the part of the Dodgers, but Saxon hears that there is mutual interest. Haren had a 4.67 ERA over 169 2/3 innings this past season, but resembled his old form after the All-Star break.
Giants have checked in on Dan Haren | 11/18/2013 4:41 PM
NewsHenry Schulman of the San Francisco Chronicle reports that the Giants checked in on Dan Haren, but that other teams are "far more aggressive" about signing him.
Henry Schulman on Twitter
ImpactThe Giants are in the market for another starting pitcher even after reportedly agreeing to a deal with Tim Hudson, but it appears that they'll be priced out on Haren. The 33-year-old posted a mediocre 4.67 ERA over 169 2/3 innings with the Nationals this past season, but he was much better during the second half.
Dan Haren among many options for Yankees | 11/09/2013 10:33 AM
NewsJon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Yankees have already shown interest in several free agent starting pitchers including Dan Haren, Matt Garza, Ubaldo Jimenez, Bronson Arroyo and Scott Feldman.
ImpactThey've also expressed a very strong desire to secure the rights to Masahiro Tanaka. With the departure of Andy Pettitte and the uncertainty around Hiroki Kuroda, there could be several openings in the Bombers rotation next season. The 33-year-old Haren is coming off a disappointing season with the Nationals in which he posted a 4.67 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 151/31 K/BB ratio over 169 2/3 innings. While his 3.67 xFIP hints that he pitched better than his ERA would indicate, he's posted extreme HR/9 rates higher than 1.43 in each of the past two seasons, which would certainly be a major concern with a move to Yankee Stadium.
Dan Haren dominates D'Backs to earn 10th win | 09/28/2013 10:54 PM
NewsDan Haren looked to be in vintage form on Saturday, spinning seven scoreless innings in a victory over the Diamondbacks.
ImpactHaren allowed just four hits and a walk on the night, while punching out five. The 33-year-old right-hander was a major disappointment in his first season with the Nationals, finishing with a 10-14 record, 4.67 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 151/31 K/BB ratio over 169 2/3 innings. Haren pitched his best baseball of the season in the month of September, which should help him immensely when generating interest on the free agent market this offseason.
Dan Haren holds Braves to one run | 09/17/2013 4:27 PM
NewsDan Haren limited the Braves to one run and three hits in six innings on Tuesday.
ImpactHaren didn't get the win for the effort, as the bullpen struggled behind him, but he did turn in a second straight strong outing for the resurgent Nationals. He's 1-0 with a save and a 1.20 ERA in 15 innings against the Braves this year.
Braves vs. Nationals postponed after shooting | 09/16/2013 3:04 PM
NewsMonday night's game between the Nationals and Braves in Washington, D.C. has been postponed.
Tom Hart on Twitter
ImpactThere was a mass shooting Monday morning at the U.S. Navy Yard, adjacent to the Nationals' home stadium, that left 12 people dead. Calling the game was the right decision, even if no threat remains in the area. Dan Haren was scheduled to pitch for the Nats and Mike Minor was on tap for the visiting Braves. There will be a split doubleheader on Tuesday.
Nationals, Braves cleared to head to stadium | 09/16/2013 1:39 PM
NewsThe Nationals and Braves were given clearance at noon ET to travel to Nationals Park.
David O'Brien on Twitter
ImpactThere was a mass shooting on Monday morning at the U.S. Navy Yard in Washington D.C., just blocks away from Nationals Park. But authorities have cleared the area around the stadium and there's a chance Monday night's game will go on as planned. Dan Haren is scheduled to pitch for Washington and Mike Minor is set to start for Atlanta. Expect updates throughout the afternoon.
Nats told to avoid stadium following shooting | 09/16/2013 11:19 AM
NewsThe Nationals and Braves have been told to stay away from Nationals Park in the wake of the shooting Monday morning at the nearby U.S. Navy Yard in Washington, D.C.
Amanda Comak on Twitter
ImpactThe report from NBC News: "A gunman armed with a rifle and perhaps a handgun opened fire Monday inside a building at the Washington Navy Yard - killing at least four people and wounding at least six more, including a security guard and a city police officer, authorities said. SWAT officers swarmed the building, the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command. The shooter was believed to be wounded, a source told NBC News, and crews were combing the facility to make sure there were no other gunmen." Dan Haren is scheduled to pitch for Washington and Mike Minor is on tap for the Braves, but Nationals Park is just blocks from the U.S. Navy Yard and shares the same metro stop. The game could very well be postponed.
Haren blanks Mets over six, Nationals win 3-0 | 09/11/2013 10:55 PM
NewsDan Haren allowed just one hit over six innings as the Nationals downed the Mets 3-0 on Wednesday.
ImpactComing off a start in which he lasted just three innings, Haren yielded just a leadoff single to Juan Lagares in the fourth inning over his six innings of work. The 32-year-old struck out eight in the outing, his highest total in a game since May 25. His assignment gets tougher his next time out when he takes on the Braves next week.
Dan Haren knocked around in loss to Marlins | 09/06/2013 9:44 PM
NewsDan Haren was knocked around in Friday's loss to the Marlins, surrendering five runs on six hits over just three innings of work.
ImpactHaren did manage to rack up five strikeouts while walking a pair in the abbreviated outing. The Marlins jumped on him early, scoring three times in the first inning, and added a pair in the third on a towering home run by Logan Morrison. The veteran right-hander continues to struggle, and will carry a troublesome 5.23 ERA and 1.31 WHIP into Wednesday's matchup against the Mets in New York. He's very difficult to trust in mixed leagues at this point.
Haren allows seven runs over 2 2/3 innings | 08/31/2013 10:43 PM
NewsDan Haren allowed seven runs over 2 2/3 innings in a loss to the Mets on Saturday.
ImpactHaren has been very good for much of the second half, so Saturday was an uncharacteristic meltdown for the right-hander. He gave up nine hits and seven runs, striking out three. The loss was just his first since July 22. He'll have a good shot to get back in the groove Friday against the Marlins in Miami.
Nationals want 'group of prospects' for Haren | 08/26/2013 8:29 AM
NewsDerrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the Nationals want a "group of prospects" for Dan Haren, who cleared waivers earlier this month.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch
ImpactThe Cardinals are among the teams with apparent interest in acquiring Haren, but it sounds like the price is sky high. Haren allowed four earned runs in a seven-inning start Sunday against the Royals but he boasts a 2.53 ERA and 54/11 K/BB ratio in 57 innings since the beginning of July. He'll be eligible for a trade until August 31.
Haren stymies Cubs in Nationals' 4-2 victory | 08/21/2013 12:29 AM
NewsDan Haren allowed one run over six innings in the Nationals' 4-2 win over the Cubs on Tuesday.
ImpactAfter earning his first career save on Saturday, Haren returned to a more comfortable role Tuesday. The right-hander allowed just five hits while striking out six, giving up only a Brian Bogusevic home run in the outing. He's now rattled off four straight wins to move to 8-11 on the year. He'll attempt to move another step closer to .500 against the Royals in Kansas City on Sunday.
Haren earns first career save, Nationals win | 08/18/2013 12:56 AM
NewsDan Haren earned his first career save Saturday in the Nationals' defeat of the Braves.
ImpactHaren entered in the 15th inning when the Nats ran out of available relievers and allowed a single but struck out two in a scoreless frame. He was scheduled to start Tuesday and might now have to be pushed back. The right-hander has been good in any role as of late.
Dan Haren pitches well in no-decision | 08/15/2013 8:04 PM
NewsDan Haren deserved a win but got a no-decision Thursday, holding the Giants to one run over six innings in a loss.

ImpactHaren was in control throughout, limiting the Phillies to just four hits and no walks while strikeout seven batters. He now has a 2.43 ERA and 39/8 K/BB ratio 37 innings over six starts since returning from the disabled list. Seemingly healthy and keeping the ball in the ballpark, he's looking like a good option again in mixed fantasy leagues. Give him a try next week against the light-hitting Giants.

NewsCBS Sports' Danny Knobler reports that the Nationals placed Dan Haren on waivers Thursday.
Danny Knobler on Twitter
ImpactHe's one of many that will go through the waiver process this month. Haren has mostly pitched well of late, but he's still owed just under $3.7 million for the remainder of the season, so it remains to be seen if anyone will be willing to pick up that price tag.
Haren dominates Brewers for seven innings | 08/03/2013 10:08 PM
NewsDan Haren went seven scoreless innings Saturday in the Nationals' 3-0 victory over the Brewers.
ImpactThat's now two straight dominant outings for the 32-year-old right-hander, who held the Mets to one run over seven innings last week. Haren has been prone to blowups this season but he should do well against the Phillies next time out. He may finally get a chance to settle in.

ImpactHaren has now allowed just two earned runs in 11 innings since returning from the disabled list, posting a 14/3 K/BB ratio in the process. NewsDan Haren was effective in his return from the disabled list, yielding two runs in five innings and striking out seven against the Phillies on Monday.

ImpactHaren has maintained throughout his struggles that he's healthy, so the Nats might be creating a phantom injury in order to get him out of the rotation for a while. Then again, it's possible his back is giving him trouble again. Haren was knocked around again Saturday and holds a 6.15 ERA through 15 starts. Ross Ohlendorf seems likely to replace him in the rotation.

ImpactOuch. Haren struck out five and walked none, but gave up seven hits, including his league-leading 19th home run of the season. With his ERA now at an eye-popping 6.15 through 15 starts, the struggling right-hander may soon be at risk for losing his rotation spot.
Dan Haren gives up four runs to Phillies | 06/17/2013 10:55 PM
NewsDan Haren gave up four runs and seven hits in six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Phillies.
ImpactHaren struck out 10 Phillies last time he faced them on May 25. Tonight, he managed just three strikeouts, which is closer to his norm for the season. He's giving up too many homers, he's not working deep into games and he's not getting much support from the offense. Until something there changes, he'll remains pretty much worthless in fantasy leagues.

His next start will come Tuesday against the Rockies in Colorado.

ImpactHaren racked up a whopping 10 strikeouts and allowed only four hits, but two of them were home runs. He has looked good at times this season, but the consistency has not been there. Haren will take a 4-5 record, 5.43 ERA and 1.37 WHIP into his next start against the Orioles.

Haren delivers best start of season vs. Reds | 04/27/2013 4:33 PM
NewsDan Haren delivered his best start of the season Saturday, allowing two runs in six innings in a 6-3 win over the Reds.
ImpactA nice step forward for Haren, who had failed to pitch more than five innings in his previous four starts. He gave up six hits (including a home run) while striking out five and walking none. Haren owes an assist to Denard Span, who robbed Joey Votto of extra bases with a leaping catch at the wall in the sixth inning. While it was an encouraging outing, we wouldn't trust him in fantasy leagues with a matchup against the homer-happy Braves next week.
Dan Haren gives up three runs to Cards | 04/22/2013 10:20 PM
NewsDan Haren lost to the Cardinals after allowing three runs in five innings on Monday night.

Haren rocked again as Nationals fall to Miami | 04/16/2013 10:04 PM
NewsDan Haren allowed seven runs -- three earned -- in 4 1/3 innings Tuesday as the Nationals fell to the Marlins.
ImpactHaren didn't get much help from his defense but also looked far too hittable. The 32-year-old right-hander is now sporting a hideous 8.13 ERA, 2.03 WHIP and 12/1 K/BB ratio over his first 13 1/3 innings with the Nationals. Bench him for now in fantasy leagues.
Dan Haren strikes out five in victory | 04/11/2013 10:46 PM
NewsDan Haren won Thursday despite allowing three runs and 10 hits in five innings against the White Sox.
ImpactAt least Haren didn't give up any homers tonight. He got some help there from a nice breeze blowing in from center. He ended up striking out five and walking none. He's not the Dan Haren of old, but given that he's on such a good team and his tiny walk rate will result in a solid WHIP, no one should be thinking of dropping him in mixed leagues.
Haren rocked for six runs in loss to Reds | 04/05/2013 10:29 PM
NewsDan Haren was smoked for six runs on four home runs over four innings in a loss to the Reds on Friday night.
ImpactHaren's spring training struggles have now crossed over to the regular season. While the veteran right-hander has always given up his fair share of fly balls -- a poor fit in Great American Ball Park -- he appeared way too hittable in this one. It's going to be tough to trust him in standard mixed leagues until he proves that he's healthy.
Dan Haren gives up four homers | 03/26/2013 4:11 PM
NewsDan Haren was tagged for four homers and five runs in six innings by the Marlins on Tuesday.
ImpactIt's understandable that Haren gave up a pair of homers to Giancarlo Stanton. The shots from Chris Valaika and Chris Coghlan were less forgivable. Haren showed better velocity at the beginning of the spring than he has lately. With the way he's throwing now, there's a good chance he'll struggle in the early going.

ImpactAlthough the results didn't show it, Haren said his he felt much better tonight than he did in his loss last Friday to the Cardinals. According to CSN Washington's Mark Zuckerman, Haren regularly worked at 89 mph tonight and touched 91 mph. It's still not ideal, but it's an improvement over last time out.

NewsDan Haren gave up five runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals.
ImpactHaren didn't have much on his fastball today, and he said afterwards that he felt achy. Perhaps he's going through his dead-arm phase. Haren didn't seem very concerned afterwards, so we won't be either, unless he fails to bounce back next time out.
Dan Haren gives up two runs in loss | 03/10/2013 3:55 PM
NewsDan Haren was charged with two runs on five hits in four innings Sunday in a loss to the Tigers.

ImpactJohnson noted that his stuff looked "really good" and that he had good command. Catcher Jhonatan Solano also gave him rave reviews, noting his ability to command the cutter while getting impressive movement on the pitch. Haren is coming off a highly disappointing and injury-riddled 2012 campaign, but could be poised for a big bounce-back effort in 2013.
