NewsMike Minor (shoulder) threw 21 pitches Wednesday in his first bullpen session of the spring.
ImpactMinor felt some soreness in his shoulder at the start of camp, a byproduct of some inactivity following a urinary tract procedure on December 31, but he's beginning to make some real progress. He'll continue to throw off the mound every other day before advancing to live batting practice. As of now, the hope is that he could be ready to join Atlanta's rotation at the end of the second week of the season.

ImpactMinor is behind the other Braves' pitchers due to some shoulder soreness, but he's coming along and has plenty of time to catch up. It's not clear when the left-hander will be ready for some Grapefruit League action, but he's not in danger of missing the start of the season as long as he can avoid setbacks.

ImpactMinor underwent a painful-sounding procedure on his urethra December 31 and was unable to throw throughout January, so he was a bit off schedule when he arrived at Braves camp. Atlanta's medical staff is optimistic that the right-hander won't have to miss a regular season start. Minor is now throwing without pain from 120 feet.

ImpactMinor qualified for arbitration eligibility this winter as a Super Two player. He earned the large raise after putting together a 3.21 ERA and 1.09 WHIP to go along with 181 strikeouts over 204 2/3 frames last season. The southpaw will have to be a key piece again in 2014 if the Braves want to repeat as NL East champs.

ImpactMinor whiffed five in the ballgame while walking only one. The only blemish on his afternoon was an RBI double by Hanley Ramirez in the first inning. The Dodgers had several other chances to score against him, but Minor was able to bear down and get big outs when he needed to. With his success in this outing, and Kris Medlen's struggles on Thursday, there could be a tough decision to make over who would get the ball in a potential Game 5 of the series should it be necessary.

Dexter Fowler's leadoff triple would have been a single in any park other than Coors with its huge gaps, and it was followed by a little tapper to second from Josh Rutledge that went for an RBI single. He caught a break right after that, though, as Carlos Gonzalez's bid for a double down the right-field line landed just foul. The three runs Minor allowed today were his most since Aug. 31, a span of nine starts. He's now 3-1 with a 1.80 ERA.
