Rollins' walkoff HR leads Phillies over Fish | 04/12/2014 10:48 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins hit a walkoff 10th-inning homer Saturday in the Phillies' 5-4 win over the Marlins.
ImpactThe shot to left field was off Marlins reliever Dan Jennings. Rollins also collected two singles and finished the game with two runs scored and two RBI. The veteran shortstop is batting .316/.395/.553 in the early going.
Rollins has two hits, SB, in win over Marlins | 04/11/2014 10:57 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins went 2-for-3 with two walks, a stolen base, and a run scored Friday against the Marlins.
ImpactRollins filled up the box score Friday, notching his first triple of the season and his second stolen base along the way. The 35-year-old is clearly on the downside of his career, but he should still provide enough pop and speed to have value in most mixed leagues.
Rollins steals first base of season vs. Cubs | 04/06/2014 7:15 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins went 2-for-5 with a stolen base against the Cubs on Sunday.
ImpactRollins has only played four games due to the birth of his child, and the stolen base was his first of the season. The multi-hit game was also his first this year, as he'd had just two hits in 14 at-bats heading into the game. The shortstop stole 22 bases last year and should still have some steals in his legs, even at 35 years old.
Jimmy Rollins scratched from lineup | 04/04/2014 11:31 AM
NewsJimmy Rollins has been scratched from Friday's lineup versus the Cubs.
Matt Gelb on Twitter
ImpactRollins has been with his wife as she gave birth, and his flight won't arrive in Chicago until Friday night. He'll be back in the lineup Saturday. Jayson Nix is playing shortstop in Rollins' place Friday.
Jimmy Rollins back in lineup Friday | 04/04/2014 9:49 AM
NewsJimmy Rollins is back in the Phillies' lineup.
Matt Gelb on Twitter
ImpactRollins was away from the club for a couple days while his wife gave birth, though he was never placed on the paternity leave list. He's playing shortstop and batting second against the Cubs' Travis Wood.
Rollins not in Phillies' lineup on Wednesday | 04/02/2014 4:34 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins is not in the Phillies' starting lineup on Wednesday night against the Rangers.
Jim Salisbury on Twitter
ImpactIt's just a day of rest. Jayson Nix will play shortstop and bat ninth against Rangers starter Robbie Ross.
Jimmy Rollins hits grand slam | 03/31/2014 6:27 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins hit a grand slam off the Rangers' Tanner Scheppers for his 200th career homer in Monday's win.
ImpactThat'll quiet people down for a while. Rollins nearly missed the opener to be with his wife as she gave birth. The grand slam was the fourth of his career. He's just the 11th shortstop to reach 200 career homers.
Jimmy Rollins (baby) in Opening Day lineup | 03/31/2014 9:38 AM
NewsJimmy Rollins is in the Phillies' starting lineup for Monday's season-opener against the Rangers.
Todd Zolecki on Twitter
ImpactRollins was a late arrival to Arlington, Texas because his wife was giving birth to the couple's second child. He hit just .173/.271/.346 this spring and isn't an ideal fantasy (or real-life) shortstop in his age-35 season.
Rollins (baby) expected to make opener Mon. | 03/30/2014 6:42 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins is expected to be in the Phillies' lineup for Monday's season-opener against the Rangers.
Todd Zolecki on Twitter
ImpactRollins didn't travel with his Phillies teammates to Arlington, Texas on Sunday because his wife was giving birth to the couple's second child, but he should arrive by Monday's 2:05 p.m. ET first pitch. The veteran shortstop batted just .173/.271/.346 in 59 plate appearances this spring and was benched for a stretch due to a lack of hustle. It could be an ugly summer.
Jimmy Rollins could miss Phillies opener | 03/30/2014 5:57 PM
NewsRyan Lawrence of the Philadelphia Daily News reports that Jimmy Rollins could potentially be away from the Phillies on Opening Day as his wife prepares to give birth to the couple's second child.
Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News
ImpactRollins did not travel with the team to Texas, but could still get there prior to the start of the game on Monday. If he's placed on paternity leave, Reid Brignac or Ronny Cedeno could be recalled to take his place.
Jimmy Rollins homers, reaches three times | 03/23/2014 4:24 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins went 2-for-2 with a homer off Phil Hughes and a walk Sunday against the Twins.
ImpactRollins also homered Saturday. He has hit in five straight since his benching last week, raising his average from .091 to .211.
Rollins: 'I'm not tradable,' rumors pointless | 03/19/2014 1:45 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins said Tuesday that he isn't concerned about trade rumors because the Phillies can't trade him.
ImpactRollins' rift with the management in Philly grows by the day. Even if Rollins didn't own 10-and-5 rights, GM Ruben Amaro Jr. probably wouldn't find a suitor. Because he does, as the veteran shortstop points out, everyone should shut up. "I don't care which way it is tried to be twisted or said, or if it is exactly how it was said, or even if it was said, I can't be traded," he said. "It doesn't matter. If I was tradable it may have weight because that means I could be moving soon. But I am not tradable and so it doesn't matter." Rollins, 35, is owed $11 million this season while his contract includes an $11 million vesting option for 2015 if he reaches 434 plate appearances. Freddy Galvis may be in line for more at-bats this season if the Phillies decide to take drastic measures to ensure Rollins' deal expires after this coming season.
Olney: Phillies would like to trade Rollins | 03/18/2014 8:42 AM
NewsESPN's Buster Olney writes that there's a "strong sentiment" within the Phillies organization right now that the team would be better off trading Jimmy Rollins as soon as possible.
Buster Olney on Twitter
ImpactIt isn't clear whether this has anything to do with Rollins' recent issue with manager Ryne Sandberg or if the organization is simply ready to move on. Of course, Rollins has 10-and-5 rights and can reject any trade, so he is able to control his own destiny. Either way, it's not a good situation. Rollins, 35, is owed $11 million this season while his contract includes an $11 million vesting option for 2015.
Jimmy Rollins won't waive no-trade rights | 03/17/2014 8:44 AM
NewsJimmy Rollins reiterated Sunday that he has no plans to waive his no-trade rights anytime soon.
ImpactRollins' name has again popped up in trade rumors, this time involving the Tigers in the wake of the Jose Iglesias injury. However, as a 10-and-5 player, he would have to approve any deal. The shortstop is 60 hits shy of overtaking Mike Schmidt as the Phillies' all-time leader, something that's important to him. "There's only 30 guys that are their team's leader in hits," Rollins said. "It's a pretty high honor." Rollins is owed $11 million this season and will have his $11 million option for next year vest if he reaches 434 plate appearances.
Jimmy Rollins goes hitless in return | 03/14/2014 4:22 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins went 0-for-4 in his return to the Phillies' lineup on Friday.
ImpactRollins was back batting second after his odd three-game spring benching. He's 2-for-19 this spring.
Jimmy Rollins on travel list for Friday game | 03/13/2014 11:50 AM
NewsJimmy Rollins is on the Phillies' travel list for Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Pirates.
Matt Gelb on Twitter
ImpactRollins has been benched for three straight games and when asked Wednesday to explain the absences Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg offered a "no comment." The thought is that Sandberg is trying to send an early message to the veteran shortstop, who has been criticized in the past for a perceived lack of hustle. Lovely way to kick off the 2014 season.
Rollins in danger of losing starting SS job? | 03/12/2014 6:32 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins is not in Thursday's lineup for the fourth consecutive day.
ImpactIt will be the third straight day a healthy Rollins will be absent from the lineup. That in itself wouldn't be terribly concerning -- Rollins dealt with flu-like symptoms early in the week -- but Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg said Rollins is "fine." Most damningly, Sandberg praised Freddy Galvis, who has started in place of Rollins at shortstop in recent days, after Wednesday's game and, when asked about Rollins, he replied, "No comment." The 35-year-old has been an unquestioned starter for most of his major league career, but those days may soon be coming to an end.
SS Rollins sits out for 3rd straight contest | 03/12/2014 2:03 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins was not in Wednesday's Grapefruit League lineup for the third consecutive day.
Philadelphia Inquirer and Daily News
ImpactHe was absent from camp Monday with flu-like symptoms, but told the media he was fine on Wednesday. The Phillies may just be trying to limit the workload of their veteran shortstop.
Rollins scratched from Tuesday's lineup | 03/04/2014 4:59 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins was scratched from Tuesday's Grapefruit League lineup.
Ryan Lawrence on Twitter
ImpactRollins was absent from camp Monday with flu-like symptoms, so he's apparently still on the mend. Freddy Galvis will fill in at shortstop.
Jimmy Rollins homers against Tigers | 02/28/2014 4:23 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins had a three-run homer and two walks as the Phillies topped a Tigers split-squad 10-6 on Friday.
ImpactRollins' homer came off Jose Valdez. All indications are that the Phillies are going to use Rollins out of the two hole, even though he's finished with OBPs of .316 and .318 the last two years. He's topped .320 once in five years (.338 in 2011). Of course, it'll work out fine if Rollins continues to homer and walk twice each game.
Phillies 'very willing' to move Jimmy Rollins | 12/16/2013 11:27 AM
NewsBuster Olney of ESPN writes that the Phillies are "very willing" to trade Jimmy Rollins.
Buster Olney on Twitter
ImpactRollins is owed $11 million in 2014 and carries an $11 million vesting option for the 2015 season. The 35-year-old batted just .252/.318/.348 across 666 plate appearances in 2013. He'll likely be difficult to move.
Rollins hitless Friday against Dodgers | 08/16/2013 10:44 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins went 0-for-3 with a walk in Friday's loss to the Dodgers.
ImpactAnd so, the Ryne Sandberg Era began with a whimper. Rollins is hitting just .223 with one home through 23 games since the All-Star break and owns a career-low .648 OPS on the year. His 15 stolen bases have salvaged his value somewhat, but the arrow is definitely pointing down from a fantasy perspective.
Jimmy Rollins passes through waivers | 08/08/2013 10:34 PM
NewsCBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that Jimmy Rollins has cleared waivers.
ImpactHe can now be traded anywhere, though Rollins said before the traded deadline that he wouldn't waive his no-trade rights and there's been no indication his stance has changed. The Cardinals expressed interest in the shortstop last month.
Rollins not willing to waive no-trade clause | 07/28/2013 9:43 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins indicated Sunday he would not be willing to waive his no-trade clause if asked.
ImpactRollins has ten-and-five rights, so the Phillies would need him to approve any deal. He was never considered a candidate to be traded prior to Wednesday's non-waiver deadline and is under contract through 2014.
Jimmy Rollins belts leadoff homer in loss | 07/20/2013 4:48 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins led off Saturday's contest against the Mets with a solo homer, but it wasn't enough to lead the Phillies to victory.
ImpactRollins finished the day 2-for-5. His leadoff blast off Zack Wheeler was the 45th leadoff home run in his terrific career. On the season, the veteran shortstop is hitting .259/.319/.353 with five bombs, 31 RBI and nine stolen bases.
Rollins goes 0-for-4 in a loss to the Nats | 07/10/2013 10:15 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins finished 0-for-4 in a loss to the Nationals on Wednesday.
ImpactRollins had hit safely in 16 of 18 games entering the contest. Phillies skipper Charlie Manuel said over the weekend that a bruised foot could be affecting Rollins' stolen base numbers; the veteran has swiped nine bags while getting caught six times. He's on pace for 16 steals after failing to reach 30 just twice in his career. Rollins is hitting .263/.320/.354. We don't view him as a buy-low candidate.
Rollins (hip) 0-for-3 in return to action | 06/15/2013 7:29 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins (hip) finished 0-for-3 on Saturday in his return to the Phillies' starting lineup.
ImpactRollins was scratched from Friday's game with a sore hip. He is batting just .262/.325/.379 on the season and probably shouldn't be counted on for much of a turnaround.
Rollins (hip) expected to return Saturday | 06/15/2013 11:05 AM
NewsJimmy Rollins (hip) is expected to return to the Phillies' lineup Saturday.
ImpactRollins was scratched from Friday's game with a sore hip, but was able to make a pinch-hit appearance. He finished 1-for-1 and drove in the game-winning run in the seventh inning to give the Phillies a lead. Rollins is batting .265/.329/.383 this season and has a hit in each of his last four games.
Rollins out of Friday's lineup with sore hip | 06/14/2013 6:11 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins is out of the Phillies' lineup on Friday due to a sore hip.
Chris Branch on Twitter
ImpactA previous report indicated that Rollins was dealing with a sore foot, but that was apparently incorrect. Either way, consider him day-to-day for now.
Jimmy Rollins (foot) not in Friday's lineup | 06/14/2013 5:53 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins is not in Friday's lineup against the Rockies due to a sore foot.
Matt Gelb on Twitter
ImpactRollins dealt with a sore right foot earlier this month, though it's not clear whether the two injuries are related. Consider him day-to-day for now. Freddy Galvis is filling in at shortstop.
Rollins goes 2-for-3, doubles in return | 06/03/2013 11:33 AM
NewsJimmy Rollins (foot) went 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs in his return to the lineup Sunday.
ImpactRollins was limited to pinch-hitting duty on Saturday, but the injury was never a major concern. He's now batting .368 (7-for-19) over his last seven games.
Jimmy Rollins appears as pinch-hitter | 06/01/2013 7:28 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins was limited to a pinch-hitting appearance Saturday by a sore right foot.
ImpactHe was immediately removed for a pinch-runner after singling in the ninth. Rollins could be back in the starting lineup on Sunday.
Jimmy Rollins delivers second homer | 05/11/2013 12:40 AM
NewsJimmy Rollins went 2-for-5 and hit his second homer Friday against the Diamondbacks.
ImpactThe homer was his first since April 7. If Rollins is going to hit for his usual modest average again this year, he really needs to do better in homers and steals (3-for-5 so far) to be a quality fantasy shortstop.
Jimmy Rollins knocks in two runs in win | 04/22/2013 10:33 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins knocked in two of the Phillies' three runs Monday in a victory over the Pirates.
ImpactRollins had two hits, but the first RBI actually came on a bases-loaded HBP. He's 8-for-21 in five games since replacing Ben Revere as the Phillies' leadoff hitter.
Jimmy Rollins reaches three times | 03/01/2013 5:31 PM
NewsJimmy Rollins doubled in two runs and walked twice as the Phillies' leadoff man on Friday.
ImpactPhillies manager Charlie Manuel gave Rollins a start as a No. 2 hitter earlier this week, but Rollins was back leading off today. It may be an idea that he revisits later, especially now that he seems to like Michael Young batting fifth behind Ryan Howard. If Rollins leads off and Young bats fifth, that'd probably result in three straight lefties (Ben Revere, Chase Utley, Howard) in the two-through-four spots.
